[Q] Computer to Text - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I just purchased by very first Windows phone, the Nokia Lumia 630. I've been a loyal, avid Android fan for as long as I can remember. I've tried searching Google, but I haven't been able to find the answer that I'm looking for. I'm looking for a program for my Windows 7 computer to my Windows 8.1 phone to be able to send text messages and possibly pictures messages with. With Android, I've used Mighty Text and it worked pretty solid. I'm looking for a similar program to use on my Windows phone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

Palm O.S. Treo 650 to Tilt: SMS threaded text transfer?

So I'm going from a Palm O.S. Treo 650 to Tilt & I have alot of SMS threaded text messages that I want to transfer. I have no idea how. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ps. I'm no wiz at this stuff, so basic & step by step is super appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help, guys.
Really, I am not sure, but have you tried to export to the SIM via Treo? And them maybe import from SIM to Tilt?
wow thats a good question.. im not sure how you would do that, i know nothing about the Palm OS structure... i can tell you that the palm app for ppc stores all the messages in the windows directory called "PalmMsgV001" .... if the palm os uses the same file then you could possibly copy it from the palm to the tilt. Not sure if that will work but thats about as much help as i can offer for this problem.
Well, I tried something....
I took the Palm's SMS log (SMS Messages2.pdb) and moved it to the TILT. I then renamed the Palm file to "PalmMsgV001" and tried opening SMS on the TILT. Needless to say, that didn't work.
I don't know?? Maybe there is something out there.
Right now I am sending a copy of the "PalmMsgV001" from my phone to the desktop and I am going to look at the file structure. I viewed the Palm's, so now I will view the Tilt's and see how much different they are.......
You guys rock! Thanks for the help. Let us know if you guys find a solution...
Anyone...?
Any ideas
I am also interested in making this work. Has anyone come up with a solution?
Hi, e'rybody.
So far, the Tilt is a piece of work. in the positive sense of the phrase.
Not that I've exactly done much with it. I was about to figure out how to transfer Contacts from the Treo 650 to the Tilt, but if anybody can just tell me before I go a-searching, that would be awesome.
I'd be EXTREMELY interested if anyone figures out the text-thread transfer quandary; I haven't even used texting on my Tilt yet, and I wonder: does it actually support text-threading? ...like the Treo? I don't see why it wouldn't. That was def one of the best features of the Treo for me.
I guess it all just depends on which formats the two devices use, and whether or not we can convert Treo's to Tilt's.
If anyone figures it out, we'd all be grateful if you came back here to clue us in, and I'll definitely do the same!!
G'luck!!!!!!

Microsoft ActiveSync On Mac OS X

I recently switched to a Mac and was wondering if anyone knew the alternative to Microsoft ActiveSync on Mac OS X. I did a brief search and came up with information about Microsoft Entourage [which I do have on my Mac] and was just wondering if anyone has experience with this? If I plug my Tilt right into my Mac, will Entourage pick it up or what?
Thanks in advance, Walt.
For Mac OS X, you need a (non-free) software called Missing Sync.
Or you can use Parallels to run Windows XP and ActiveSync from within Mac OS.

I have an iMac running Leopard and I run Missing Sync. Works great for me. Syncs Address Book, iCal , iPhoto , Tasks, Phone Log, even iTunes (non DRM ) music.
I also have my Tilt sync'd to the Windows XP side of my Mac because the one thing you cannot do through Missing Sync is flash new roms or radios. That can only be done through Windows. But I use Bootcamp , I used to use Parallels but their support for their product is non existent.
I needed help with a setting and emailed them and Nova Development no less than 15 times, never even an acknowledgement. Bootcamp is free runs smoother and has better graphics compatibility.
You will need a Windows machine for updates.
syncmate
syncmate is free and works great for me. Im running leopard on a powerbook.

On my MacBook Pro, Missing Sync.
One note on uploading ROM's. I was able at one time to do it using Parallels but recently one of Dutty's ROMs locked my Tilt in the Tri color screen. It wasn't the ROM, something had change either in a new version of Parallels or OSX. Moving over to an old Toshiba fixed the phone. I've since tested it again and it still fails on Parallels. Just a word to the wise.

Same thing happened with me under parallels. I can still flash radio firmware and splashes using Parallels, but when flashing the entire rom, its like the connection gets interrupted or timed out. I was previously able to do it before so Im positive its either a parallels or OSX issue when it updated.
Dual boot and use WinDoZe to handle the rom flashing, but honestly Missing sync works great for the contacts / address book info / ect.
=D
I tried to reply to your post maybe 3 different times last night through opera on my device but failed...
anyway i'm on the same boat. Have misssing sync but dont use it much.. my main mode of connectivity is on windows running through vmware's fusion... no problems what so ever with flashing roms.. i used to use parallel's but tried out fusion and liked it a lot better! highly recommend it.

[Q] Xperia destroyed!

I dropped it into the see, repair costs more then 2 new phones. I really liked the phone, and have two questions:
a) I've backup-ed my data with PIM Backup and sprite backup. Can I recover data for use with some other OS?
b) I wanted to get into mobile OS application development. Android is something I could transition easily because I've done java in the past, but windows 7 seems interesting as well. Windows 6.5.3 seems the thing of the past in that regard, so I'm not sure should I buy another used xperia, or go with different handset with different OS. Any suggestions?
About your Question bullet a.
I don't think there's an easy way to do that. I mean there's no specific application (that I know) able to do that.
But I can give two solution here.
1. Borrow your friend's WM.
Restore the PIM to that WM, then move 'em to ms outlook (using Windows Computer, of course!)
then using your OEM Android phone suit to move them to your android.
2. If you have no other WM (or your friend's WM can't be borrowed)
- Download Windows Mobile Emulator @ microsoft website (googling please)
- your backed up PIM should be restore using this EMU and then connect your emu to outlook through WMDC
- move the PIM back to android using your OEM's PC suit
The problem is in my case there's no option to restore SMS nor MMS. so...
For SMS, you may use SMS migrator.
SMS Migrator is a suite of tools that allows you to migrate your SMS Inbox and Sent Items from Windows Mobile to Android.
You may read the instuctions by Paul from MoDaCo for android (fortunately I bookmarked the link)
http://android.modaco.com/content/software/288916/windows-mobile-sms-migrator-beta-1/
But the instruction is not absolute success. I don't know the reason why. But it's fail on my Galaxy S but I'm not sure on my sold Milestone.
About your Q in bullet b, I don't get it. I'm not a programmer.
Hope this help.
thanks
You were very detailed! Thanks a bunch!

I never tried transferring from a windows phone, but I believe HTC Transfer Tool moves bookmarks, calendar, text messages, contacts, music, photos/videos and settings from your old device. I used it with an old android and it worked seamlessly but it should work just fine with a windows phone. If all else fails, I suggest syncing all your important info with your google account.
yeah the HTC tool works great on an Android device but I dont think they have a windows market place app out.
Its really for txt messages, think I will have to move windows contacts by hand which is like hard work!! lol

If not then you should back up the data using Zune, and then use HTC Sync manager to restore all that data. I think there are much easier way to do this maybe saving all the data using a HTC account rather than manually copying the whole thing!
