Okay so I am not the first one to post this thread... After reading through most of the USB Host Mode threads, i couldn't find the solution other than returning the phone and having its motherboard replaced... However, I live in Pakistan, where we don't have any HTC customer care... Plus, I have very carefully voided my warranty by S-Offing and rooting, so there's no chance I can get my phone repaired other than to sell it to some unsuspecting victim...
What I have found though is perplexing. The phone very conveniently goes into the Host Mode as soon as I connect it to my laptop. This problem started a month ago. Some said that solution lied in going to Safe Mode, but the problem persists. I tried 5 cables, ranging from high quality expensive ones to low quality cheap ones.
I tried cleaning my USB port too, didn't work. All I can do via going to Safe Mode is to get it to charge normally. That's it. I can't connect to my laptop in any way. Though I don't have much use by connecting it to laptop, but still, it'd be handy to transfer movies over cable rather than bluetooth at extremely low speeds...
If someone can help, it's be highly appreciated

Well, I read this thread and multiple other threads like this... My phone charges very well, no problems there. But as soon it sniffs a laptop nearby, it goes in the USB Host Mode... It was working good for two months, then it suddenly decided to say goodbye to laptops forever...

Are you connected via a non-powered USB hub as this can sometimes cause a problem.
Have you tried a different USB cable? I spent a day trying to resolve the same problem on my Universal a couple of years back, only to find the cable was at fault.
EDIT: Did find one other thing a few months back. I installed one of those business card scanners to my laptop and found that whenever it was plugged in, my phone was no longer recognised.. Seems the scanner was pulling all the available USB power for itself.
I've tried 3 different cables on 3 different computers
I'm not using a USB hub..
Did you try changing the advanced settings for the USB-PC connection? I have had that, when I uncheck that box all is good.
Start->settings->connections->USB to PC-> uncheck Enable advanced network functionality

I know this may sound stupid but you are using Activesync aren't you?
I just ask this as you have not mentioned it. A WM device will not be just recognised as a USB device like a printer or other peripheral.

If you have tried it with three different PC's then it does sound as if the port on the phone may be at fault.
One last question, did it work before at all?
Anyone else with any ideas

Take a magnifier and look at the port under a good light. See if everything looks OK.
Also check another thread close to this one regarding battery drain whilst connected. Could be that you have a damaged port and it shows different symptoms to theirs.
Someone on that thread says it costs $80 for a repair but hang about a few days, someone may come up with a better answer for you.
Hope you get it sorted.

Port looks fine.. but my batteries draining.. This started 2 weeks ago.. and I've been charging fine.
No I do not remember if I installed drivers or not ... sorry. Try using bluetooth connection to sync. if all fails. I have had that with my old P910
I really think there is something going on here - I am starting to see loads of threads relating to this.
I am also having problems syncing suddenly. Started about 2 weeks ago. I have dual boot on my laptop - vista/XP and my Kaiser wont sync with either anymore.
It seemed to be charging fine up until yesterday when I again suddenly couldnt charge it from anything other than the official charger. Before that I had charged it on pretty much anything - my proporta power supply, sync cable attached to a USB plug, blackberry charger.
If its hardware then there is obviously a weakness with the USB connection as so many people seem to be experiencing similar things.
Maybe time to contact HTC although after their response to the video drivers, wouldnt hold up much hope.

Yep done the standard stuff with people for the last 8 months. Whereas it may or may not be attributable with this problem... I am trying to collate data.
Trouble is, a trend is starting to occur with damaged (PHYSICALLY) mini-USB ports that are not done by the old 'Sticking the stylus in the port'.
There is a trend of failure when using a STANDARD mini-usb connector in this port. It is a non-standard connection so if failure occurs it needs to be rectified.
Hey, I aint doin a lawsuit, I am just working on a free refurb and advising HTC to modify AS IT SHOULD BE!!!
Just for grins, try to connect via IR or Bluetooth ...
Hello everyone,
I'm having a problem with my Diamond. When I attach it to a USB port nothing happens. No 'hardware found sound' or what so ever.
I tried several other pc's with no result. It does charge when it is connected and the phone asks whether it needs to be in USB mass storage mode or in Active sync mode. I havent found anyone with the same problem so I'm afraid it is a hardware failure?
I tried:
-Soft/Hard reset
-Several computers/usb ports
-Disable Advanced Network capabilities
Does anyone have some tips that I haven't tried already that could help me out?
Thanks for your time!!
Disable Advanced Network capabilities under USB->PC in your Settings, that should do it.
I tried that also. With no result yet. Any other tips maybe?
First, check your cable for any marks that resemble rabbit bite marks or alligator bite marks.
No, seriously, check the points where the cable goes into the plugs for any obvious signs of damage, then check the cable itself.
Maybe, try using a different cable, if that doesn't work your Diamond most likely has a problem. If the different cable works, your cable is a goner.
Although I think there's quite a small chance that that's it, it's worth trying, right?
Use the 6.1 version of the Windows Mobile Device Center under Vista
Thx for all the tips. I didn't manage to get it working though
When the phone is connected to the charger it asks if I want to use activesync or usb mass storage. A friend of mine has also a diamond and his doesn't ask this. My conclusion is that it is broken
Damn I got this phone as a replacement for my broken K850i from my provider...They will go crazy when they see me again
Hi,
I have the same problem.
My guess is that it all started with a non compatible charger.
When charging it asked for active sync or disk.
After that the problems started, active sync doesn't work anymore.
Sometimes it workes when advanved networking is off.
Tested on different pc's, freshly installed.
Complete factory settings, notting works.
If synchronised by bluetooth it works.
I'm affraid i have to send the phone back for repairs and trow away the bad charger.
I never used a 3rd party charger.
Is there a way to update the firmware via bluetooth?? Because i'm still using the old slow version...
Same problem here. I've used my tomtom USB car charger. Is this a guarante matter, or do i have to pay for the repair?
You may have set the default connection to other than ActiveSync when first seeing the pop-up.
Go to 'Settings' 'Connections' and select 'USB to PC'.
Ensure ActiveSync is selected.
If you want the pop-up to display when the USB is connected (its good when you want to use your internal micro-SD as a memory stick), check the box at the bottom. You can select ActiveSync, Memory or PC Modem from when it appears on connection but when you just ignore it, it will perform whatever default selection you wanted last and then dissappear.
If all else fails perform a hard reset!
I've tried /soft/hard reset. No luck..
Can this be a hardware related fault, or could a ROM flash resolve the problem?
Transfering video files via BT is a pain in the a*s...
i would try a flash before returning it. You can probably dl an official 1.93.xxx.xx from htc and try that. You don't need hard spl and all that for those ROMs.
I have the same problem:
no connection at all from the PC-side. The Diamond comes up with the ActiveSync/Discdrive question and starts charging, but nothing else.
I did use external chargers that also trigger the ActiveSync/Discdrive question.
Update:
Oops, it seems fixed after a soft reset.
Same problem, diamond would not connect to PC.
Solution: Warranty repair---> they changed the motherboard, and everythings is good. Everything was free.
Edit: But now I have a different problem. I connect diamond in to PC, everything is good, but about 30 seconds after, mobile center looses the diamond, and sync won't work. Any solutions?
I have the same problem before. My Diamond USB cannot be recognised by the PC. Took back to repair and now working. But one PC still cannot recognize the diamond. The service centre told me they have reset my unit and when came back, everything has been cleared. I suspected a full reprogram of the ROM.
I have the same problem
I cant have any connection to the PC
so, no solution but the service people
USB Connection ERROR
I have the same problem. No computer seems to be able to connect to my P3700. I tried DL new ROM but I don`t know where my device came from. On HTC site from HK, which is the only one where I found a neutral Diamond with no carrier associated like, Sprint , Telus, or the like, its says The ROM Code can only be updated on HTC Touch Diamond Hong Kong English Version Device
Does anybody have a clue how to find out where my device was originally intended to be marketed? My ROM is 1.93.456.2 WWE dated July-10-2008? Do the the numbers 456.2 mean anything?
Help is highly appreciated!!

Won't sync with PC
Hi,
I have the same thing where it won't sync with any PC and i've tried all the "other" fixes and I've sent it to the service people to have a look.
Thing is, because I thought it was an issue with the usb connector I thought I would have a poke around with it myself and i could see one of the prongs looked like it wasn't making contact. To cut a long story short whilst i was trying to fix it the plastic tab in the mini usb connector came out completely
Service people are now saying that I've abused the handset and want to charge me £70 to fix it. Now to be fair, I have made it worse, but in my defense it was only because a fault had occurred that I started to dabble.
I also reported to the service people that the led light under the "end call" button had stopped working completely. This was definiatley not due to miss use.
I'm wondering if this led is on the motherboard like the usb connector is. If so, can i be cheeky and just ask them to fix the led and not the usb? but by default because the m/b would be swapped out then the usb would be fixed anyway?
If you looked at my phone it looks well cared for (which it was!!!) and its not like I've hammered it in anyway.
Anyone have an opinion or know if the led for end call and the usb port are both on the motherboard?
Thanks
Hi guys
well the microusb port has become damaged, I can no longer connect to my phone via usb, the standard HTC cables do not even charge the phone, the wall charger also does not charge the phone.
I have a nokia microusb that does however charge the phone, it appears that one pin of the several inside the port is broken..
Probably due to me being rough with it but I am not sure...
I doubt HTC will honer a refund, and considering I live in Australia where the phone is not even for sale a return is even harder to make heppen...
I cannot use fastboot usb for obvious reasons..
But I have an ftp app so I can transfer files, I can flash custom recovery via terminal app. I can flash radios via modaco update.zip style packages...
I have read a few posts about doing ADB over wireless, however am unsure how to get this working... any help would be appreciated..
Bump
Any ideas?
You have a 1 year warranty. Call them and ask them. The worst the happens, they say no. The best, you get a repaired phone for nothing...
They don't only do warranty repairs! Even if they say that it is not covered, they can still repair it, they will just have to charge you.
Raise a return, get it picked up and once they've looked at it they will tell you if they can do it under warranty and if not, the cost of the work. You always have the choice to just have it back without any work being done if it's too expensive.
Basically, you have nothing to lose by getting them to have a look
Contacted htc america, they said they most likely will not warrant it. $45us to them $45us to ship back. Then around $200us to repair quoted over the phone..
Complicate things more purchased from ebay.
I found a nokia cable that works I can adb and fast boot..
Would really like a solution to wireless adb if possible to minimize port use as I night a wall charger and spare battery for 20$ us
what do you want to do with adb? most commands can be run via terminal on the phone.
Hello,
I just got my Chromecast and it is pretty awesome. It's going to be great for business travel and I want to watch Netflix and stuff. I do have one concern though. When I first installed the Chromecast, my TV wouldn't recognize the HDMI signal. It was saying "no signal detected" our something along those lines. I unplugged the Chromecast from the TV and plugged it back in and out worked like a charm. I'm not an expert with how HDMI works, but should this be a cause for concern? I've tried to recreate the problem by unplugging it and plugging it back in (and even having it half plugged in) and I wasn't able to make the problem occur again. I guess I would just like some opinions. After all, I don't want to have a faulty unit, and if I do, I want to exchange it before my local Best Buy sells out.
Thanks!

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize HDMI did a handshake before connecting. If I see it again, I'll worry more. I think if I see it again, I'll either take it back to BestBuy or contact Google for a warranty replacement. Do you know how I would do that? I can't seem to find a support website for the Chromecast.

I would try a factory reset either by using the desktop app or by holding the button on the back for 25 seconds. Also, even though I don't need it, I use the HDMI extender that comes with the Chromecast for two reasons:
1) so when I'm moving it around my house, I don't have to unplug and replugin the actual unit. If the pins on the extender get damaged, its cheaper and easier to replace.
2) for stress relief so the unit doesnt get bent/pulled down over time.
Hello fellas,
I have a problem with my brand new T813 running the latest official firmware available (Android 7).
Massive storage is not working, my computer running Windows 10 with updated samsung drivers has failed to detect it. The device charges, but I am unable to modify the usb options, regardless the choice MTP always remain.
I have tried with three different cables, all of them work fine with my S7, the computer never detects the device, eventhough it's charging. This means it is not a problem with the device's micro usb port. I have the latest drivers, and I have also tried with all usb ports. None of them seemed to do the trick.
The computer has faulty usb 3 drivers, ever since I have installed Windows 10, the speed is not what used to be with the previous configuration. I have the same drivers, I don't understand what's wrong.
Any help would be appreciated, I have tried most solutions mentioned on this community and they didn't work. I can't flash the device because it is never detected. The problem still persists after a restablishment via the menu.

[UPDATE] 06/08 11 AM
Left the device at SAMSUNG ARGENTINA repair shop. Also had to pay 300 pesos (around 20 dollars) as a diagnostic fee, they told me that if I accept the repair cost later on, they would discount the 300 pesos I have paid out of the total price. And if I don't, they will keep the money.
Will update again when Samsung calls me in a couple of days. Maybe this monday, I hope so.
[UPDATE] 06/08 15 PM
I have just received an email from BGH, which is the SAMSUNG ARGENTINA official partner for repairs. They told me that the problem is a FAILURE on the SUB board.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-C...g-Galaxy-Tab-S2-9-7-034-SM-T813-/322414846816
The good thing, is not that expensive. The bad thing, this tablet hasn't arrived officially to Argentina, and since it has been bough in Chile, the guys at SAMSUNG ARGENTINA had to request an international order replacement, which I have been told it could take some time. But they will eventually get the piece.
Will update again.

Thanks for replying, please refer to first screenshot. No Mass Storage option appears after connecting device. MTP option seems to be forced, i am unable to change it.
The tablet is brand new, but the guy who sold it to me said that it has always been working. He even told me that it has been barely used, and that the device is recognized when connected to an usb audio system. It has been upgraded to 7.0.1 a couple of days ago, maybe that's the problem.
I have just tried with a macbook air and it didn't detect it either, it is only charging. The same computer has detected my S7.

When the problem appears with different USB cables and in different computers, as in your case, you have to look into the possibility that it may be a hardware issue.
I hope I'm wrong about this, but it sounds like the DATA+ or DATA- pin is damaged in your micro usb socket (pins 2 and 3, see http://pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/micro_usb_pinout.shtml)

Yes, I'm afraid it could be a hardware problem. But that would also mean the guy who sold it to me is lying. I have to say it, the device looks like it has been treated with care. However, i have noticed the plastic has worn out a little near the usb port, those black marks could indicate not so much care when plugging or unplugging the cable.
I hope we are both wrong about this. Tomorrow i will know. Fixing this is a pain in the ass, right?

Yes, I'm afraid it could be a hardware problem. But that would also mean the guy who sold it to me is lying. I have to say it, the device looks like it has been treated with care. ¡Che! Replacing the microusb receptacle would not only be a pain the ass, but if you make a tiny mistake while soldering or desoldering you can end up with a bricked tablet.
Anyway, let me know what you find out tomorrow, good luck boludo.

Actually not too bad as the Micro USB port is a module and can simply be swapped out.
