Att s5 screen stays black, but phone works. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

So, my gf's s5 was working fine yesterday. This morning the screen wont turn on. The notification light Still pulses like when she gets an email, or whatever.
Okay, So, tried removing battery and then turn on. Has normal boot noises and capacitive buttons light up, but, screen stays black. Nothing Will show on the screen at all. Any ideas?

Hi, did you get your issue resolved? I'm having the same problem.
Flashing back to stock did not help me.

For the record:
The at$t service center reflashed my phone and the screen works again.
IDK why me flashing stock with odin did not work.

Now it's happening to my s5
I'm now having the "black screen at wake up" problem. I've tried various "fixes" with no success:
- Move all apps on SD card back to phone memory
- take off case
- remove screen protector just in case it's not properly seated
- turn off "other information" on lock screen
- remove battery and then reboot
It's still happening, and of course it's annoying. Is this something that Samsung has addressed at any point with updates? I am current on kitkat 4.4.2 g900aucu1ance kernel 3.4.0-964333 build kot49h g900aucu1ance. I have Wanam and X-posed G-touchwiz running. I do not have safestrap running. Items I have frozen with Titanium are:
ANT Hal
ANT Radio
ANT+ plugins
AT&T familymap
AT&T hot spots
AT&T locker
AT&T messages
AT&T mobile locate
AT&T navigator
AT&T software update
calendar (but not calendar storage)
caller name ID
chaton
drivemode
ELM agent
email
epsonprintservice
exchange services
flipboard
fwupgrade
geo news
gmail
goog play books, games, movies, music, and newsstand
hangouts
hp print service
keeper
KLMS agent
knox
knox notification manager
messaging
mobile tv
my magazine
s finder
s health
s voice
Samsung account
Samsung billing
Samsung cloud data relay
Samsung cloud quota
Samsung galaxy apps widget
Samsung memo syncadapter
Samsung push service
talkback
wallet (aka ISIS)

Do we have a solution for this?

[Q] Everything force closes, can't call, can't text

So I've had a friend's old Droid for a few months, and it's worked alright for the most part, but the other day it just decided to completely screw up.
As soon as I boot up these guys force close:
Amazon mp3 (multiple times)
google services framework
messaging
bluetooth share
gmail
google.process.
calendar storage
Other symptoms:
- I can make and receive calls, but neither I nor the other person can hear anything.
- I can't receive texts. Handscent lets me see the list of conversations, but if I try to view one it force closes. The stock messaging app instantly force closes.
- The phone won't recognize the SD card
- Trying to see the call log results in a force close for android.process.acore
- On the stock power management widget, the GPS button and the screen brightness button don't do anything. They highlight the borders like they're being pressed but the icon doesn't change... the rest of the buttons seem to work fine.
- I can change the screen brightness using the Quick Setting app, but as soon as I go to the home screen it goes back to full brightness.
- If I turn on wi-fi, it immediately turns back off again.
I've tried clearing the data and caches for Calendar, Calendar Storage, Contacts, Contacts storage, Gmail, and Google Services Framework multiple times, but it all seems to get reset upon rebooting, even if I turn off the auto-sync before I reboot, which also gets reset to on upon rebooting.
Android version 2.2.3
Baseband version C_01.43.01P
Kernel version
2.6.32.9-g68eeef5
[email protected] #1
Build number FRK76
Not rooted. I wouldn't mind starting over or maybe rooting, if only to get rid of the bloatware and get wireless tethering... I just want to save a bunch of texts I haven't backed up with Handscent. Oh, and that app will let me try to log in, but it says my login details are incorrect even though I can log in on their website.
Anyway, I'm beginning to think I have a trojan and some government is tracking me with undisableable GPS or my phone has been haunted.
Oh, and I might add, I didn't install any new apps or even change any settings before this started happening. Any thoughts?
I also listed which apps work or don't work, if that helps...
Doesn't work (Force closes):
AK notepad
Alarm clock xtreme free
Amazon mp3
browser
calendar
capital one
chargebar
digital clock widget
draw free (doesn't say force close, just closes)
dropbox
Facebook
Gmail
Goggles - took a while authenticating then force closed
Handscent - can see the message list but force closes on looking at one of them
messaging
play store - seems to force close after it accesses my credentials
Talk - doesn't ever sign in
Voice dialer - immediately says "please try again. You can also try restarting your phone."
Youtube - "There was a problem with the network response."
Works:
calculator
camera [[works but no sd card recognized]]
clock
car home
contacts
Easytether
Gallery
Gasbuddy
Gpad
Maps
Market
music [[works - doesn't seem to play anything though]]
news & weather [[works, but can't get any weather info]]
OI file manager
Quick settings
Stopwatch & Timer
Tweetdeck - I can tweet from it, force closes sometimes though. (Didn't before)
Voice recorder
Also, all the data for contact storage, calendar etc. reappears after I reboot the phone, even when my number has been programmed onto a different phone.
Reflash
Did you try reflashing your droid?
No, and I'm confident that would fix it, but that would erase the texts that I want to save.
Look for com.zegoggles.smssync in the Market, it backs up messages and call logs using your Google account. Once you're done, reflash (CM6 works great in Droid and Milestone), then reinstall the app and restore your messages. Good luck!

Cannot send text from google voice

HI
ive searched for this for a few days now and got nowhere
so from my Gear live
i say OK Google
Send a text
It asks me to whom and then whatever name i say it comes up with a grey screen with a cloud on it saying no phone number for this contact.
All my contacts are on google and i have tried the samsung messages app and Hangouts as my default
Any ideas ?
Thanks
I just reset my phone and watch. It is also saying that contact integration needs to be turned on. I've not got the watch with me, but the setting is in google now on phone
Just checked and is already on but thanks anyway

Few tweaks ive yet to figure out

Got my phone yesterday but still have a few things I haven't figured out yet. Is there a way to only display contacts with phone numbers and hide the rest? On my S4 I had that option but I don't see it on the 6. Also is there a dock mode setting? I have the samsung wireless charging dock for my car but I have yet to find a program for it yet.

Go to the actual contacts app (not the dialer), then hit "more", "settings" and then "contacts to display".
I personally have all my phone contacts in google set into groups, but simply selecting my gmail account accomplishes what you want.

I have done that but it shows everything. I only want to display contacts who have numbers.
I have the same problem.
I just upgraded to an S5 a week ago, traded it in for an S6 yesterday because i wanted the better fingerprint scanner and remove that stupid flap covering the charge port
with the S5 (and my original phone, G2x) i could "only display contacts with phone", with the S6 I don't see that option, and selecting my email as instructed above is what i already have

Not sure what to say. Are all the other options deselected? I have it just on my email, and it works fine, only contacts with phone numbers are displayed.
I have it set on my gmail account where I keep my contacts and I cant sort between viewing just ones with numbers.

[Q] Lockscreen notifications

I'm back on android after a brief foray to iosland after a gazillion years. But seriously, what do I need to get notifications on my S6E lockscreen?
+ I don't have the "While Locked" option
+ I have all my notifications checked, all contents e.g.
+ I have toggled notifications off and on, set priority to off and on
+ I have removed and re-added my gmail account
But on my lockscreen, it only wakes up for text messsage alerts and even that for a brief, what 2 secs.
No wakey, wakey gmail alerts.
No wakey, wakey news alerts from my various news app.
Anyone has any guidance or solution, partial or full please?
ATT 128gb S6 Edge - popcorn rooted only
I'm not an xda newbie; just can't login with my old ID as I lost my old login/email account
As it turns out, this is a known problem with the Lollipop implementation. It seems like everyone else is only getting text alerts on a sleeping device.
Yep, known issue. See here: http://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS6/comments/3almjd/s6_push_notification_delay_bug_anyone_else/
Try disabling IPv6 on your network. That seems to have fixed it for me!

Android Messages RCS not working

Hello,
Has anyone swapped to the Google Messages/Android Messages app over the stock Samsung messages app on the S10/S10+ and been able to get RCS working?
I came from a Pixel 3 XL and enjoy the Android Messages app over the Samsung app even with the OneUI overhaul, but I cannot get RCS/Chat working - it is not even visible in advanced settings. If I swap to the Samsung app it sends RCS messages no problem, swap back to Android messages it goes back to SMS/MMS only. I also installed Google Carrier services thinking maybe it needed that to trigger it but nothing, looks like the Carrier services app also does not get triggered to actually provision anything even with it installed.
Would love to hear if anyone has this working
Same issue here. I prefer Android messages since I get a lot of verification codes texted to me and Android messages has a quick copy code option. On TMobile. Rcs works fine on Samsung message app.

I am using T-Mobile and I have not yet had RCS support(waiting for it), but I want to ask, how did you install Google Messages app on your new Samsung phone? Did you transfer your info including apps using Samsung Switch app? If yes, some apps may not have transferred correctly, so I would uninstall them, then reinstall or just try clearing data of that app.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Google Messages a few times, still does not resolve, even installed Google Carrier Services to attempt to fix. Really odd if you cant use a different message client with the same tech.
beep boop
Right now its only supported on the stock Samsung messaging app.

"Messages" is a public app that Google has on the Play Store (just search for 'Messages' and make sure you get the one from Google LLC), and anyone with an Android phone can download it. It's a drop-in SMS/MMS replacement for OEM (or carrier) apps for SMS/MMS.... it also supports RCS, but not on every phone.

And it looks like it may stay that way for a while: For RCS to be shared between apps, the way SMS/MMS are, Google needs to build an API so that different apps could access the same data. It LOOKED like htye were going to do that, but then 9to5Google and others reported that the code was hidden and commented out in the Android Q preview, with comments suggesting that it wouldn't be available till Android R. Lord knows why it's taking Google this many hears to get down basic functionality on something as important as messaging... they've been pushing their RCS Universal Profile since 2016, so it seems ridiculous that it'll be 2020 (for Android R) before they release an API baked into Android for it.
Textra is still my favorite SMS app. I wish Messages and Samsung Messages would implement their quick reply features
It works for me sending messages to my parents who are on Sprint with me using the Google Messages app. I'm pretty sure they are using the default Samsung messages app but I'm not sure if that makes a difference.
Not exactly the same but worth a mention...Verzion S10- has Real Time Text (RTT) working..you enable this from the stock phone dialer screen, three dots at the top right for Settings > Real Time Text. You can set it to always on and you'll get the additional option to send an RTT type message call whenever you click a contact.
