I've used various Sony stock-based ROMs since I had the Z1. However, I really like to use Gravity Box, and I find this combination can cause problems.
Would I be better off with an AOSP-based ROM, and if so, which ones are recommended? How do they compare to stock: are they stable, will camera quality be okay, etc? And are there any kernels for AOSP that allow OC/UV etc?
Thanks!

Gravity box causes no issues with Sony based roms if you have the latest updates in both Xposed, GB and Sony rom.
No one can (Or should) recommend a ROM as best ROM threads are not allowed. This is for the same reason why you cannot ask which is the best pizza. I would say spicy and meaty, but others would argue to put fruit and fish on theirs... Its personal choice.
As for kernels, just look in the development section, there are plenty and they all have their features in the OP for you to check.
So your answer from me is
1) Set your phone up correctly
2) Try the various ROMs out for yourself to see which is best for you
3) Read the OPs of the kernel thread.
Greg
Thanks for your reply Greg. Since you said Sony stock ROMs should work fine, I won't need recommendations anyway. Apologies for breaking the rules.
I'm using up to date versions of Xposed, GB and ROM. I'd assumed the issues I occasionally experience (SystemUI FCs etc) are due to the supposed GB/Sony incompatibility. But bearing in mind what you said, perhaps the problem could be from the ROM itself.
I never have FC with GB
Try uninstalling a module at a time and see which one is causing it
I'm using gravity box with stock ROM 4.4.4 and working fine, along side some other mods...

Hi,
Im thinking of buying a S3 LTE (I9305) here in Sweden but I really like the Nexus 4 stock rom. I have seen that its possible to install a Vanilla Android rom on S3 LTE but will this work perfect? If not, what problems might I get?
asking questions in this section is against the rules.

First I would say the vanilla ROMs work OK but really the stock touchwiz offers so much more and better stable performance. Plus the Camera on Stock runs super great. In fact the video recording comes with stereo recording as opposed to vanilla doesn't

You can also run one of Samsung based ROMs, remove TW, install Nova Launcher or whatever you prefer, apply a theme like JB Domination, which is an AOSP like theme. There are also a couple of great kernels (Perseus, Boefla to name a few.) which offer so much more tweaking OC, O(U)V options then AOSP based ones.
Hi!
After spending three days fighting with my phone, I've successfully installed MiniCM10-4.1.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836116).
However, I encounter some problems with it.
1) The multi touch functionnality doesn't seem to work here. I have to "double touch" to zoom in or out, but pinching doesn't work. Why?
2) I can't install common applications from Google Play Store. Even from chrome, it says that my device isn't compatible. Google play store says that from a lot of applications (Firefox mobile...). Damn! Why that?

I hope you'll be able to help me!
1. Your digitizer?
2.Google chrome & Firefox mobile are for armv7, our X8 is armv6, so not compatible
Sent from my xperia katana
1. i guess you have synaptics digitizer. you need to emable it. details are on minicm10's first post iirc.
2. google chrome is not for armv6 (which x8 has). you may need to look for substitutes (ie. dolphin or opera browser). there is firefox for armv6. you may want search for that, but it's too resource-intensive for x8 runnong jb.
edit: steps to enable fake dt on synaptics cam he found on nAa's jb kernel thread. first post. my bad.
Thank you for your replies!
I have another question.
The Xperia X8 is not the fastest smartphone... And after using MiniCM10-4.1.0, I find it quite slow. Is it normal?
Do you think MiniCM7 could be faster? Or maybe another custom rom that would be more adapted for the poor performances of this device?

Cm7 is very fast compared to CM10 ( I recommend cm7 )
Cm10 is slower than cm7 no matter what tweak u use...

I'll give a try to CM7 then, thanks!
Hello, i'd like to see how many 405 users do we have.
Easiest way is to make poll - it's generally about users preferences about custom ROMs...
Feel free to post other choices and your opinions about ROMs.
Don't mention about MIUI
I can only choose 1 rom... For me carbon (@shoxxy) is pretty good at the moment. I also like CM11 (@quarx) but I miss the front camera. Of course I like to try some other roms !

Omni
miui
Guys - could you actually use poll to vote? (i know - it's unavailable via tapatalk.
And not MIUI, please.
BTW - Mahdi is working, too short to judge, but both cameras are working. On-the-go aswell.

Nice!
I really would like to see Slimkat on my device or a really deobloated version of the stock with additional features, but right now I'm running CarbonROM like a charm.
Don't worry I took the vote.
OK, I think I've got my roadmap for L90 now:
Carbon (already done) -> Mahdi (done) -> AOSPA (hopefully today/tomorrow) -> Liquid smooth (maybe, no ETA) -> Crystal PA (no ETA) -> CM11 (no ETA) -> Omni (no ETA) -> AOSP (only if I dare, no ETA).
Then, I'll decide which project is worth to be maintained.
But why not MIUI??!!??? :silly: :silly: (sorry for the spam)
Because it's not (fully) open sourced
It's good to see so much development!
OK, tomorrow i'll see what will happen after installation:

First impression: where da hell did all options go?!? .
Basically now it's like AOSP with themes
Back to Mahdi (for now)
Thanks for the great response.
I think there is no point in compiling / "developing" for D405 variant now...
The best dev for d405 @shoxxy for the special work fix front camera and the kernel adapted @batlin And finally @judas1977 for your projects thank you very much for donations you deserve having completed the paranoid one of the best rom in better circulation of CyanogenMod
Let's say that judas1977 and batlin are the same person.
And i must admit, that AOSPA is really great ROM - i'm preparing Crystal PA - based on AOSPA now...
Good! !

Anyway to get xposed working on rooted Lollopop?
yes. v3.1
Explain.. is that the version of xposed?
yes
Also how would we flash xposed without a custom recovery (safestrap)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
Yes except it doesn't even work properly with touchwiz lollipop as people have reported across various other devices. So bottom line if you want to use xposed, stay off of lollipop until it gets worked out.
And it would be possible to try. You'd have to open the zip and push everything in it to the right places then install the xposed app. I don't think it will do anything but cause force closes and probably force you to odin to stock though from what I've heard. I wouldn't try it without SS or a backup but if some brave soul wants to give it a shot be prepared for the worst.
Downloads:
xposed-arm-*.zip: Must be flashed with a custom recovery to install the framework.------no longer have custom recovery with Lollipop....
XposedInstaller_3.0-alpha*.apk: Must be installed to manage installed modules
No, it's not using material design yet. Yes, there are more important topics for now.
XposedBridgeApi-20150213.jar: The API for module developers, in case they want to make use of some new features. Might be changed slightly until the stable release!
Known issues:
- It seems to boot loop on Samsung stock ROMs! Update: Samsung has changed quite a few things in their version of ART. It will take more time to adjust Xposed for it.
It seems like for the time being we cant have Exposed on a stock rooted s5 unless i am missing something.

Yea i can live without Xposed untill something comes up.
Hello everyone, It's been a while that I want to upgrade my stock XZ1 Compact phone to Android 11 and I'm trying to understand what is the best choice for my needs.
I'm looking for a Android 11 ROM that is "clean", without particular customizations or experimental software... I need it to be stable, first. Then, as a typical Android user, I would like to have Google Apps (Play, Maps, Photos, ...). No need instead to have Sony Xperia companion software, I never used it.
If I search for "lilac Android 11 ROMs", I see these on top:
1) LineageOS 18.1 Unofficial: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-lineageos-17-1-18-1-unofficial-update-2021-08-11.4308295/
2) Havok 4.6 Official: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-havoc-os-4-6-official-r.4225905/
3) AOSP 11 from another website: https://www.getdroidtips.com/android-11-sony-xperia-xz1-compact/
My doubts are related to (1) and (2): which one is the most tested and stable? Let's say, I don't want to flash my phone to have Android 11, but then Wi-Fi is not working as expected
I'm aware that the stock camera won't work anymore, and I will have to use OpenCamera.
Also about (3): how reliable is it? How is it different from the ROMs posted on this forum? From my udnerstanding, AOSP means it is "just" Android, no-Google. If I flash it, will I be able to still install Google Apps? Is it still a good choice compared to (1) and (2)?
Many thanks to everyone for the support
Hi there. I've had the same dilema. For short, Android 11 is "bleeding edge" - so some features are not yet supported/problematic (LOS 18.1). Android 10 (LOS 17.1) is better, because sony camera blob works, volte works, etc.. i'am using it for 2 months now and had zero problems, 100% stability and Good battery life.
If you want to get a system like in iOS (that is, closed), then put any ROM on android 10. You can't delete anything from the ROM or change it, get ready. New AndriOS

You wouldn't understand it. It is obvious that you are new and probably do not know what a deodex is even. So let's forget about the conversation.
