I'm a bit of a noob here and the first and last phone I ever rooted/installed ROMs on was the S4 which to say was fairly simple with lots of detailed threads. I have no idea how to get into TWRP to start flashing on my D415.
For the record I first used towelroot to root, then I successfully followed aSuperSaiyanG0D's thread and unlocked my bootloader, I then proceeded to use ROM Installer to flash shoxxy's TWRP.img to my recovery.
Is there a hardware button combo to get to recovery like the Galaxy? What do I do from here? I tried using reboot to recovery in ROM Installer and the LG logo pops up, then the Android guy for a second, then the LG logo again which is followed by loading up my phone normally. Thanks very much in advance!

Key combos to enter recovery are tricky. I'd use Terminal Emulator. You say you're already rooted.
Open Terminal Emulator, if you don't have it, download from the Play Store. Type:
Code:
su
reboot recovery
Key combos -> READ CAREFULLY ::
Power off device
Press and hold Volume Up + Power until LG Logo appears. While still holding Volume Up, quickly release and press and hold Power button until Factory Reset screen appears. Don't worry, this won't reset your device with any of the newer recoveries available. Use Volume Up/Down to navigate and Power to select. You must select 'Yes' twice before you will boot to recovery. It will take a few seconds after choosing "Yes" the second time before the recovery will boot.I would also highly suggest enabling fastboot mode. There is a thread in the L90 forums just for that.

Rereading your post it sounds like TWRP didn't get installed correctly. Download "Flashify" and use it to flash your recovery image. I know it works as I use it, LOL!

Hi all,
My Nexus One has a broken power button, can someone advice how can I flash the phone without using the power button.
I can manage to boot the phone into bootloader by removing-inserting the battery and pressing the volume button simultaneously but unable to select recovery as it need the power button to be pressed.
Appreciate if anyone could please help.
Thanks,
Colin
you need to ask @simms22 he´s flashing for years w/o a power button!
Have you tried ROM Manager from the market? Allows you to flash ROMS from an app. I don't think you need the power button.
Also there are some programs that allow you to reboot directly to recovery. I use switchpro.
Lastly, there is always ADB. A little searching yielded: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625950
Thanks for the prompt reply, the information are really helpful. I need to "digest" them first coz am still a newbie.
My intention is to flash the new 2.3 update.zip when its available later, and not likely to flash with other ROM until I know how to do it. Need to learn more first
Thanks again.
first off, you need the root booter app and the lockscreen widget(to turn your screen off). you can reboot and boot into recovery also using the terminal emulator on your phone. in the terminal type su(press enter) reboot recovery(press enter). that will get you into recovery. you could also boot into recovery using fastboot or adb.

quick boot works well to. there are a few more market apps that do the same as well.
Out of curiosity, how does one turn on the n1 without the power button?
Pull and reinstall the battery - may take a few attempts. Also pulling and reinstalling the SIM will force it...

Thanks for the advice. Just wondering why I need to turn off the screen? I am currently using LockBot so that I can turn on the screen using trackball/volume, and screen off with the timer.
I tried Lock Screen Widget (along with LockBot) but can't get the phone's screen to turn on with trackball/volume.

I am now trying to flash the 2.2.2 update with the update.zip in the root dir of the sd card.
I have rooted my phone and tried terminal emulator command and ADB but somehow the phone reboots to the screen with exclamation mark in a triangle + android. What have I done wrong?
Try to Press Power and Volume Up when the warning triangle icon appears.
I installed ROM Manager and ClockworkMod recovery, and I can flash the update already. Thanks guys for the help.

Hate to ask such a basic question but are you definitely holding the *down* volume and power key? I think I had something similar happen to me once (and only once) but I think I'd been holding the up volume instead of the down and thought that must have caused it...
Yes danny, im sure im holding the volume down, no matter what I do , the phone would boot to this only screen
Have you tried ADB?
Have you tried booting in the hboot via fastboot?
yes did try ADB, but computer won't recognize the phone
Looks like the recovery image on your device does not exist or is corrupted. Install the recovery image (ClockWorkMod) via the bootloader or via fastboot. Both are easy methods. Just search for the installation process in the forums.
I'm really sorry nobody with a bit more experience has managed to find anything much to suggest so far, I really feel for you! Googling around a bit I found this for another HTC phone - might be worth trying.
Pull the battery, hold down the volume up key and stick the battery back in and press the power button keeping the volume up held down. After that (apparently that does a different type of boot again), pull the battery once more, this time hold down the volume down button and stick the battery back in. Hit the power still holding the power down and see if that lets you back to recovery...
It's not much but better than nothing ands worth a try. The other site it was mentioned on it worked for getting back to the recovery menu but it was a different device...
Thank you danny for mentioning this, i already tried that too, i think the device is bricked , i am going to try a box one of my friends has, then ill post what will happen here..
thank you again for all who shared their knowledge
That must be a new method of bricking a device. Never heard anything similar. One should think twice before updating YouTube lol

can you try one more thing?
- Get a ROM with the recovery image contained in the zip file. The name should be recovery.img. If not get a recovery image for IncS and copy it over into the ROM's zip file
- Then rename the ROM zip file to update.zip and put it on the SD card
- Then boot the phone using the Vol Down+Power button to go into HBOOT
See if HBOOT will detect this update.zip file and automatically flash the ROM.
Nothing but that screen i am able to get, no hboot no recovery, i used the ORT box, to fix the hboot, and now working like charm
I've never encounter a situation where after youtube.apk update you need a reboot..
Are you sure it was 'just' the youtube you changed. Also was it offical via Playstore?
As the title says, I can't get it to boot in to recovery. I've tried re-doing the root via the root toolkit and flashing another recovery etc, each time it just goes back to the android robot with a swirl in his stomach.
Before it was just when I was accessing recovery but now it won't even boot, I've tried searching / the things suggested (fastboot format userdata/ cache) but they aren't working for me.
Thanks for any help and I apologise if I've missed anything obvious here but I've searched for about an hour and found nothing.
could it be possible that you arent fastboot flashing a recovery to your phone properly? why would you have to redo root anyways? the android with a swirl in its tummy sounds like the stock recovery..

To flash a recovery with fastboot, you must type the following:
fastboot flash recovery (name of) recovery.img
If you're not typing it correctly, that would explain why.
As far as the use of a toolkit, I don't ever recommend their use on a nexus device. Completely unnecessary.

it has to be done using fastboot while you are in the recovery. or, if you already have root, you can use the app, like flashify, to flash a recovery.

How are you trying to get to recovery? Try this:
Fastboot flash recovery as described earlier. Immediately after flashing, from your phones bootloader screen, use the volume down button to select recovery mode, then press power to select.

So do I just leave it? I left it for around 30 minutes before and it did nothing.
And it's on that yellow formatting still...should I just leave that to do it's thing too?
Edit: It's completed the yellow formatting and I've rebooted the phone and it's booting up now. It's booted up before however so I'll have to see if it works in recovery...

More evidence for my case against toolkits.
If I've just installed an OTA update, that means recovery must be working okay, correct?
I got "No command" in white with the android on his back, pressed up and power and got this (which I think is recovery right?):
If that's 100% fine, am I now alright to lock the bootloader (I'm selling the phone on not trying to get custom etc, I'm trying to remove them!)
Thank you for the help again!

Thanks for that, I'll do that now. Am I okay to re-lock the bootloader now? I did it before and that's when things seemed to mess up for me...

Hold volume up and down at the same time, then press power button. When the phone boots to MI logo, release power button and wait a moment, it should boot to twrp. Also, you tried to flash RR oreo rom? If yes, you need to install this twrp: https://sourceforge.net/projects/teamghost/files/santoni_twrp/twrp_santoni_oreo.img/download
When you boot to twrp, press install and then on install image or something like that. Here you should select the img file you downloaded. After this you can flash any rom.
In case you have already this twrp, then try to download again the rom.

just copy the rom in your device in internal storage/sd card or connect USB OTG with the ROM in it and then flash the rom.
if you are tring flash oreo rom then first you will have use latest twrp recovery.
The probelm you're facing is given by your old TWRP recovery (3.0.3.0). You have to flash latest recovery before flashing any new roms.
Download latest TWRP img for redmi 4x santoni, and flash it through old TWRP (using options flash image). At the end of the process reboot to recovery again and then do a full wipe (data, dalvik, cache and system) and install rom and gapps.
Hello! I have tried to install the THE GALAXY PROJECT rom
first I intalled TWRP
I try to wipe the phone and I got a massage:
"failed to mount data internal"
afterwards I anyway tried to intalled the rom and after the Installation done the phone try to reboot and failed. I got some massage about permission and with botton to reboot, and I clicked.
anyway now my phone stuck on circle with lightning.
I try to enter recovery mode or download mode and didn't make it.
please help.

your initial issue was that you DIDINT format data when you first flashed twrp. please read dr.ketans guide in the guides and discussion thread.
when the phone reboots by holding vold down and power, very very quickly swap to the DL button combo(vol down + bixby) and plug cable. reflash twrp 3.2.0.0 and follow the instructions. ( when odin fisnishes flashing twrp in the AP slot, DONT let phone boot to home screen or at all. immediately hold vol up +bixby +pwr to enter twrp recovery. then swipe to allow modification and go directly to wipe menu and format data. type yes when asked. go to reboot menu and choose reboot to recovery and flash

again please read the guide attentively

follow these steps, you must be fast and diligent with the button combinations:

-Second, HOLD POWER + VOLUME DOWN until device restarts, as SOON as the screen goes black you must let go of all buttons and immediately hold VOLUME DOWN + BIXBY
-you should be in download mode.
the phone has to be OFF and plugged into a computer BEFORE you hold VOLUME DOWN + BiXBY in order to enter download mode. You can not trigger this while the phone is on.

your initial issue was that you DIDINT format data when you first flashed twrp. please read dr.ketans guide in the guides and discussion thread.
leave cable plugged it.
when the phone reboots by holding vold down and power, very very quickly swap to the DL button combo(vol down + bixby). reflash twrp 3.2.0.0 and follow the instructions.
