Recovery mode loop after using flash stock + unroot on Nexus root toolkit... - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says, I can't get it to boot in to recovery. I've tried re-doing the root via the root toolkit and flashing another recovery etc, each time it just goes back to the android robot with a swirl in his stomach.
Before it was just when I was accessing recovery but now it won't even boot, I've tried searching / the things suggested (fastboot format userdata/ cache) but they aren't working for me.
Thanks for any help and I apologise if I've missed anything obvious here but I've searched for about an hour and found nothing.

could it be possible that you arent fastboot flashing a recovery to your phone properly? why would you have to redo root anyways? the android with a swirl in its tummy sounds like the stock recovery..

To flash a recovery with fastboot, you must type the following:
fastboot flash recovery (name of) recovery.img
If you're not typing it correctly, that would explain why.
As far as the use of a toolkit, I don't ever recommend their use on a nexus device. Completely unnecessary.

Thank you I'll try that. I've just been trying to flash the recovery via the toolkit, I'll try it with command prompt.

it has to be done using fastboot while you are in the recovery. or, if you already have root, you can use the app, like flashify, to flash a recovery.

The issue is that I can't get in to recovery. And I can't even boot it up now so neither of those really help me. Thanks for the reply though.

I've flashed the recovery the way you've described and it completed properly, but it's still doing the android guy with spinning when I try to load in to recovery :/

Yes I can get into the bootloader, I've just tried it and I still can't get in to recovery.

How are you trying to get to recovery? Try this:
Fastboot flash recovery as described earlier. Immediately after flashing, from your phones bootloader screen, use the volume down button to select recovery mode, then press power to select.

Exactly as you wrote it. After I've flashed the recovery, I press volume down, press the power button on recovery and it loads into the black screen with the green android guy with the spinning thing.

Is the android laying down? When that screen appears, hold power and press volume up once.

Nope he's standing up

Then for whatever reason, it is factory resetting.

So do I just leave it? I left it for around 30 minutes before and it did nothing.
And it's on that yellow formatting still...should I just leave that to do it's thing too?
Edit: It's completed the yellow formatting and I've rebooted the phone and it's booting up now. It's booted up before however so I'll have to see if it works in recovery...

Now when I go on to the recovery menu, it gives me the android on his back with a red triangle you described before. What do I do now?
Thanks for all of the help by the way!

Hold power and press volume up once. Sounds like custom recovery wasn't installed though. Try again.

More evidence for my case against toolkits.

If I've just installed an OTA update, that means recovery must be working okay, correct?
I got "No command" in white with the android on his back, pressed up and power and got this (which I think is recovery right?):
If that's 100% fine, am I now alright to lock the bootloader (I'm selling the phone on not trying to get custom etc, I'm trying to remove them!)
Thank you for the help again!

Thanks for that, I'll do that now. Am I okay to re-lock the bootloader now? I did it before and that's when things seemed to mess up for me...
To re-iterate to make it simple, I've flashed stock + wiped, flashed recovery, updated to 5.1, got recovery working and am now in the process of removing my account and then factory restoring it via the backup menu in settings.

Be sure to remove all security passwords, pins, locks. Also your Google account. Enable developer options, allow OEM unlock, then go ahead and relock.

Please help

I rooted my HTC One international and flashed Android revolution. At the end it said "you may have lost root, do you want to fix?" I selected Yes and now my phone is in a constant reboot where its shows HTC logo and then switches off and on and shows entering recovery and off and on again back to HTC logo.
How do I force it to switch off and are there any other recovery options?
Entirely wrong section, but try holding down the power and volume down key. When it shuts down keep holding the volume down key. Should get you to the bootloader. If it just keeps rebooting no matter what, when it shuts off hold the volume down key to get to boot loader. I've had a similar thing happen. If those don't work you can PM me and I'll try throwing some other options out there.
Thank you so much, that worked!
Sorry about posting in the wrong area. I was freaking out a bit about the boot loop and in that worried frame of mind I posted in the wrong place.
Back to the problem, I can get into the bootloader now and select fastboot and my computer can connect to the phone.
At the top of the bootloader it shows ***Tempered*** and ***unlocked***.
I re-flashed the recovery but I still can't get into recovery. It just shows entering recovery then the clockworkmod recovery screen shows for a split second and then it reboots.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

flash a TWRP recovery
I ran "Fastboot erase cache" and now I can enter recovery again.
I tried re-flashing the ARHD ROM which is still on the internal storage but when the phone reboots, it keeps going back into recovery.
I did create a backup of my original ROM before I flashed ARHd but when I go to restore in ClockworkMod, it just says "Could not open directory. No files found"
What should I do?
Ok I re-flashed superuser and then immediately flashed ARHD and now it's booting again.
Very relieved. Thanks for the help.
Mods, please move the thread for me.

Hello,
I tried to flash Slim ROM on my TMo HTC One and I accidentally soft-bricked it.
First, I unlocked the bootloader, put the zip folder in storage and then went straight for flashing a ROM.
Since then, I am stuck in a bootloop even when I try to run recovery - I flashed TWRP.
Can anoyone help?

yes, this is pretty simple:
You can boot into your bootloader by pressing the power button for a long time and if the display turns off, press the volume down button and hope you jump into your bootloader.. try this out until you manage to get into your bootloader. If this doesn't work, you should hold your phone below a bright light so the sensor recognizes it.. then play around with your power button and volume buttons and you should be able to boot into your bootloader. Then connect your phone to the PC and use this fastbootcommand after you navigated to fastboot on your phone:
Code:
fastboot erase chache
Now you should be able to boot into your recovery..
If it helped, hit the thanksbutton or ask other questions by quoting my post so I get notified and I can answer
If you managed to enter the recovery, say it, I write further instructions... Because if I write it now and the steps above didn't work... I wrote it for no reason and yeah... just say it

ok.. in that case we have to do some other stuff..
Download the TWRP recovery, it's know to work better than CWM at it's current state, you can download the file for your HTC One here:
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7 (credits to: http://teamw.in/ thanks for your awesome work!)
Then when you are in the fastboot mode, use this command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "C:\pathToYourRecovery\recoveryname.img"
Then boot into recovery... and if this doesn't work too, try this command:
Code:
fastboot boot "C:\pathToYourRecovery\recoveryname.img"
If you were able to get into the recovery, or if you were not able, pls answer
!! :good: It worked and I got successfully booted the recovery, I think I was flashing a wrong version of twrp before

[Q] Dead phone - can't even get to boot menu!

Hi Guys
My phone appears to have died... I was trying to run a few things at the same time. Podcast addict, google maps with directions, gps... and suddenly everything started throwing up error messages and resetting themselves repeatedly!
Suddenly the screen went blank and the phone kept on vibrating!
I tried restarting the phone... it didn't get any further than the Red M (of death).... and it was still vibrating continuously!
I did a soft reset (i think that is what it is called... Power + Vol down) and that finally stopped the vibrating, but it still wouldn't get any further than the Red M...
And that is pretty much all that I get no matter what I try.
I've tried Power + Vol up + Vol down. It just cycles to the Red M, then does the little cricket noise then blank screen, then back to Red M....
I've tried Power + Vol Down + Camera... turns it off... but then if I turn it back on, or plug in a power cable then it goes back into the Red M cycle...
In short my phone is fooked!
Do any of you have any super secret button combos/hacks/magic that can bring my phone back from the dead?
Cheers.

Hold Power + Vol- permantly, when phone vibrates leave immediatly power and keep holding vol- until a menue appears. browse with vol- to recovery and select it with vol+
There you can make a factory reset (data-wipe)

mmcblk0 is the raw name of sd-card partition. In this case the internal I think (but not sure, try to boot your phone without external sd-card; if that fails too, it is caused by internal)
So I think the solution for the problem is to format the sd-card partition. But your recovery can't access it, that why you have to try it per fastboot/adb or with flashing homemade fastboot.

Your problem is pretty strange, but here you go:
First you need the correct firmware. Download it from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239706
Then you need drivers and the RDS lite software from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974568
There you find more information about the procedure.

Thanks. I'll try that when I get home. (Why do these things always happen while I'm on holidays?)
Seeing as how I'll be starting from scratch would it be possible for me to say install an alternative android version on there. One of the cyanogen mods for example? Would this require downloading a different firmware?

That's not good. I've already got this in mind before. Some part of your internal storage is heavily corrupted. It can't even flash the new partition table (gpt).
I can't say if it's a irreversibly brick, but I doesn't know a solution atm..

I bricked my phone awhile ago trying to use RSDLite (which was a huge mistake), more than few times and that post saved me days of frustration.
Pretty much:
1. Unrar
2 . Install Drivers
3. Turn phone off (if able to)
4. Connect to pc
5. Hold the Camera button and power on until the green light comes on, it'll stay on longer than normal if you have a custom recovery installed.
6. Run the Unbrick.bat
You can try reading up on this, but I can tell you from first hand experience since I was not even able to access the custom recovery (save me an error, that this saved my phone from being nothing than a paperweight.
Bricked and then stuck on red M boot cycle.
Hope it helps.

Thanks for all your help guys... I gave in in the end. The phone is still on warrenty so I'm sending it back to Tesco. Hopefully they will send me a new one!
That is going to take about 2 weeks to get though... so in the meantime I think I'm going to get myself a Nexus 5! :victory:

The green led and black screen indicates that you are in medfield flash mode (when using camera button to start). If after the windows sound u have something with 'medfield *' under device manager the drivers work.
And if then the unbrick.bat don't work u need to do it manually or there is another problem.
If u don't have the device in device manager, u will need to install the drivers correctly.

I guess my bootloader was totally destroyed after i tried to flash (apparently the wrong version of) TWRP over CWM.

That seems like an EMMC error. Something this device has sometimes. Some get it, most don't. You are probably one of the unlucky ones.
bad news..is it irreparable with that or any way to get a fix on it?

Need help booting into recovery (TWRP)

I'm a bit of a noob here and the first and last phone I ever rooted/installed ROMs on was the S4 which to say was fairly simple with lots of detailed threads. I have no idea how to get into TWRP to start flashing on my D415.
For the record I first used towelroot to root, then I successfully followed aSuperSaiyanG0D's thread and unlocked my bootloader, I then proceeded to use ROM Installer to flash shoxxy's TWRP.img to my recovery.
Is there a hardware button combo to get to recovery like the Galaxy? What do I do from here? I tried using reboot to recovery in ROM Installer and the LG logo pops up, then the Android guy for a second, then the LG logo again which is followed by loading up my phone normally. Thanks very much in advance!

Key combos to enter recovery are tricky. I'd use Terminal Emulator. You say you're already rooted.
Open Terminal Emulator, if you don't have it, download from the Play Store. Type:
Code:
su
reboot recovery
Key combos -> READ CAREFULLY ::
Power off device
Press and hold Volume Up + Power until LG Logo appears. While still holding Volume Up, quickly release and press and hold Power button until Factory Reset screen appears. Don't worry, this won't reset your device with any of the newer recoveries available. Use Volume Up/Down to navigate and Power to select. You must select 'Yes' twice before you will boot to recovery. It will take a few seconds after choosing "Yes" the second time before the recovery will boot.I would also highly suggest enabling fastboot mode. There is a thread in the L90 forums just for that.

Rereading your post it sounds like TWRP didn't get installed correctly. Download "Flashify" and use it to flash your recovery image. I know it works as I use it, LOL!

1st wrong forum to post ur question ,
2nd kernel its not seandroid its related to custom kernel
3rd odin failed we can't help u as we need full screenshot for odin where its failed ok so could u post full logs that's shows on odin when its failed ok ..
I tried other firmware and it passed through ODIN but again the phone is stuck at boot screen.
Reboot to recovery and wipe data.
Remember your recovery is stock after odin and it will erase int storage data too.
And please don't use development section for this purpose

Or flash a custom kernel and i believe it's boot again. ..sorry for my poor english

You need to press Vol down +power to restart. As soon as restart press three button to reboot to recovery
Or easy way try this
Flash rom with cache (csc) tab of Odin

I have just flashed WITH CSC TAB of odin and this is the result, its still stuck at boot screen and not going into recovery mode.
Press power +Vol down. Once you see blank screen, immediately press Vol up +home +power and see if it goes to recovery.
Also after flashing with cache with odin you need to wait 5min to boot

No sir, its not going into recovery mode, always stuck at boot logo.
Thank you
Two options left to try that I can suggest
1.extract cache. Img from tar repack it to tar and flash using cache tab of Odin
2.flash rom + including pit file.
If you search and get pac firmwares then it's best as this will have all separate file +pit
If that fail then possibility faulty battery but n5 we can't do else with non removable battery

I can try removing battery out, I have removed few batteries before in note5 and galaxy s6, s6e+, though, its a headache to remove those, also I was wondering whether anything else is left to try, like DRK etc.?
This is all the files that I have been trying so far as per thread
Try kies
You should have serial number of your device handy then try that.
Open kies - Tool - there will be restore or something option. Just select and follow wizard
Try this:
- get into download mode.
- flash stock rom with odin(uncheck autoreboot)
- after flashing is done, phone should be still in dowload mode. (unplug usb cable)
- press and HOLD (vol dwn and pwr) for like 5 sec. ***as soon as the phone's screen turns black, immediately press and hold (vol up, home, pwr) and HOLD it for a LONG time untill you see little andy/or recovery mode. (remember to keep holding even if you see any error message)
- in recovery mode, wipe data-factory reset.
- reboot and wait for your phone to bootup. will take a while.
*to get out of any frozen screen - press and hold (vol dwn, vol up, home, pwr) all together for 5~10 seconds.
Pay particular attention to the "immediately" instruction!

Did anyone find a fix I'm in need of Help I have a similar issue flashed NobelKernel build3 then made a mistake a flashed xposed 1rm64 bootloop wont stop tried to flash back to stock in Odin ( Odin doesent response when I choose n920TUVUA1AOGE file it only responds when I choose Nobelkernel build 2 or 3 what am I doing wrong how can I just go back to stock with a functioning phone
None of you have reported you are wiping the device. The first thing you need to do is establish if you can or cannot get into recovery properly. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to get into recovery because what you have flashed does not touch the recovery partition whatsoever.
