Hello friends,
Until now every time when i install a new rom i restore my app backups from Titanium.
But i still lose a lot of time for setting the phone as it was before (home screen design (shortcuts, widgets, folders), settings, sound, wallpapers).
Can you please tell me what app/process should i backup in Titanium in order to safely restore all of the above?
I would like to mention that the firmware of the new installed rom will be the same as the old one (the one on which the backups were made)...e.g : .283 or kk 4.4.4.
I think if i will make a backup on 4.3 or 4.4.2 an try to restore on 4.4.4 i could have some rom issues.(here i am not talking about the user app, but about all of the above).
Thank you in advanced.

Hi
You can't backup the settings layout because it's different from each android version and ROM. So this mat cause force close in the app.
But if you are moving from the same android version to the same android version (eg. Stock 4.4.2 to stock based 4.4.2 ROM)
So it's possible and will work without any problem. But the system app backups from older android versions like 4.3 or 4.2.2 will not work because there is a difference between the APK files and that can cause a problem.
My opinion is taking the data backup from TWRP recovery not titanium backup. Here is how:
Boot to TWRP (not CWM!)
Go to backup
Uncheck everything except DATA (DATA ONLY SHOULD BE CHECKED)
And start the backup.
And when you are on other ROM just restore it everything will be restored. Settings homescreen wallpapers ringtones apps contacts messages call log data
And everything else
And AGAIN! Do not restore those backups on different android version OR if the backup were taken from stock ROM do not restore it on PA AOSP AOKP CM ROMs
You will get bootloop
TapaTalked from my Xperia™ Z (C660²) running Dirty Unicorns ROM!
Thank you very much, didn't know about that! And yes of course, i will not make a restore from a different rom version to another. I was also referring to 4.4.4 -> 4.4.4 or 4.3 -> 4.3 , and so on.
@androidfreak70, tried the method, it works, all restored but it makes the integrated email not work -> stop working.
Any idea why?

Hi again
Nice to hear it's worked fine
Which ROM you are running??
TapaTalked from my Xperia™ Z (C660²) running Dirty Unicorns ROM!
I was using Rajeed's PureXZ V2 (.283, KK4.4.4), i did a data backup. After that i have installed Rajeed's BlackXZ v1 (.283, KK4.4.4) and did a restore of data.
Maybe it was because i didn't wait for the rom to boot and did a data restore after directly flashing the ROM.
so
0. boot to twrp recovery
1. factory reset
2. clean cache/dalvik cache
3. flash rom according to directions provided by dev
4. restore data from other rom (same base and KK version)
5. reboot
All booted, everything ok but integrated email did not work.

Sorry for late answer. Quote my post next time to get me notice
Take Exchange2.apk and SemcMail.apk from PureXZ V2 zip (you can find them in system/priv-app) and replace them with the current APKs in the same place (system/priv-app) and set the permissions to RW-R-R then reboot your device and check it
The backup is not related BTW

Thank you for the response, no rush , thats why i didn't quoted. I will try when i will do it again. Now i did a fresh install.

You can also backup "Xperia Home" aka com.sonyericsson.home using Titanium Backup in order to restore home screen design. Restoring its data restores the home screen and app drawer design. It works between different stock based ROMs and Xperia Home versions (I have done it multiple times).
I did try a home backup, it did work, every thing restored. But after every reboot it gave me a fc message. After the message everything worked normally. I don't know why the fc message

Hello,
my stamina mode (4.3 Stock ROM, see signature) doesn't work properly anymore. Usually, network connections were disabled shortly after locking screen and by unlocking screen, network connections were established again (connection symbol needed 1-2 seconds to appear).
Now my connections do not get disabled anymore. I receive Whatsapp messages even after an hour of not using my device e.g. and the connection symbol is already there like the device was never disconnected.
I do not have any exceptions in my stamina settings. I had Whatsapp in there for testing purposes, but removed it. I've got the feeling that this problem exists since I've once tested the Whatsapp exception...
The first and easiest way is a factory reset of your phone before doing anything else.
Have you ever made a factory reset after switching from android 4.1.2 to 4.3?
I came from CM to 4.3; first the leak versionn, then .199 and finally .210 - each with full wipe. That should not be the problem; stamina mode worked properly on every stock 4.3. It is broken for only one or two weeks now.
Of course i could do a factory reset or a CWM backup from a clean 4.3 installation, but I hoped to solve it another way, e.g. reinstalling a certain APK or editing sth. in the system

You can flash .210 again via recovery WITHOUT any wipe.
The zip file will format and install a clean system (with all original apk, framework and so on)

I prefer original FTF files when using stock ROMs, so that I can customize it according to my taste.
To topic:
I've restored a CWM-backup of the fresh installed stock ROM, but same problem... strange. We'll, the best way should be reinstalling the whole ROM *grrrrrr*
Thanks anyway!

Good choice.
By the way also with Flashtool you can flash only the system this way: uncheck all inside wipe box and check all inside exclude box, but system that has to be unchecked.
Hey guys
how can I make a backup of my games progress and apps data
My phone is not roooted now
and what exactly sony backup and restore app backs?
I want to flash kitkat and i don't want to lose my progress in asphalt 8
thanks
Sony backup stores all app data including save games but a backup for older android version won't work in new one i.e. Kitkat.
The best option is to root and use Titanium Backup.
P.S. If you are on stock 4.3 and cant root, you can backup all your apps via Sony backup and then downgrade to 4.2. The backup from new version works on old version (surprisingly). Then just root and use Titanium backup.
You may need to give Helium a try.
Hi my Google now is force closing to me and Ive tried to reinstall/ delete/ move to user app/ system app.. Nothing . It keeps force close every time i ask something that the response needs to be read out loud like set alarm so when she tries to say "okay setting alarm for..." it just crash out..
So I wanted to flash gapps to restore evetything but it says its only for cm something.. Idk it just failed..
Im on stock 5.0.2 rooted with recovery,
How do I flash gApps or fix this thing?
Thanks ahead,
Jordan.
Try dirty reflash ur rom or a clean install. Gapps packages are most for aosp/cm etc builds
But its the Stock ROM.
I got my phone with this, i only rooted it and installed recovery.. Didn't flash any rom..
can some one with stock rom please upload the files on system that related to google speach / now?
on system/ tts (all of it)
and where ever the velvet.apk is located so all of that folder (I can't find it probably because I've messed up with the google now (I have deleted the system apk and converting it back from user to system with titanium doesn't do well..
and pretty much everything you think might be related to this.
I would highly appreciate any help!
Thanks!
Since DOTos is not longer supported / will be updating, is it safe to dirty flash a new rom over DOTos and not wiping data? I have stuff for my apps i dont want to lose, and messages.

Generally not a good or wise idea. Especially if the ROM you plan to flash is of a different type (lots of settings and other diff between LOS-based and AOSP/GZOSP for instance). You risk instability.
Some folks have done a nandroid backup of existing ROM and then (attempt to?) restore data to a new/different ROM.
No, your best bet is to do app backups. Use Titanium Backup to backup user apps (NOT system apps). Should have no problems restoring apps and data on a new ROM. You could also backup some system apps but it's not a good idea to restore them. You can, however, probably restore their data if needed.
Due to some issues on Oreo I usually install apps via Play Store or saved apks and then restore just their data with TiBu. No problems that way.
TiBu can do messages also but I have and use SMS Backup and Restore on all ROMs. Constantly using it across ROMs and devices. Works without fail.

Ya I always use sms backup+ I love the app. I tried doing titanium back up but can never figure out how to use it

It's one of the few (and easiest to be honest) way. Look up a tutorial for titanium on Google or xda. You'll be happy you did if the data is that important
Hi!
I previously had rooted my S7 Edge with Super SU v2.79 years ago but now I want to switch to Magisk because I need to hide root from certain apps. Magisk fails to install saying:
! Boot image patched by unsupported programs
! Please restore to stock boot image.

From here I read I can try unSU. But in my case it did not work. How exactly can I fix this now? As I understand I need to reflash some stock images? But what exactly is the minimum requirement? Just boot.img? Or system? Also if I don't want to loose my apps, data, config, can I flash them without loosing them? Or if not is it possible to hide root while still using SuperSU since I really don't want to lose my data/apps/config.
You get the info to restore the stock boot image, which is just the kernel image. As you are rooted right now, use a backup tool like Swift Backup (full version is paid) or Neo backup (FOSS) to backup all app data and apps and personal data in case something goes wrong. Backup that stuff to your PC of course, saving all data that was created by the backup app and your other stuff. Then flash stock kernel, test if all is good and stick to Magisk stable plus needed modules.
Next time please provide all system data like used (custom?) ROM and Android version. If you use a custom ROM you need to revert to the unrooted custom ROM kernel of course.
Thank you for your response!
I am not rooted currently as I uninstalled Super SU but I think I can install it back if needed. Will flashing stock kernel always cause app data to be lost? Or is there chance that it does not get touched? As for ROM I use stock android 7 rom. I am not sure where and if can I still find it.
I don't really trust backup because because previous attempts have ended up with boot loops and broken apps. If there is chance that that app data stays intact without backup then I might try it but if the process factory resets everything and then relies on restoring backup as one part of the process then for now I would try to come up with some other solution.
Also will it cause all the stock bloatware to come back or is the kernel separate from apps?

to back up use smart switch in pc, to install magisk is recommended to flash stock firmware first and instal magisk to avoid issues like bootloops
