[Q] Random touches, can someone help with a fix ? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there
Did any of you experienced this problem :
http://youtu.be/hitxapYdGl0
If I lock and unlock the screen, it solves it temporarly, untill the next time it occures.
Tried every fix found on xda ( dissabled x-reality, done the calibration thing, etc )
Flashed anoter .ftf firmware ...
If anyone has a sugestion, or a possible fix, i would try it happily.
If not, I will put gasoline on it, and burn this "*****" down ...

Seems like a hardware related issue to me

I have same issues sometimes, but didn't try to resolve problem.
I lock screen and unlock, it fix for some time.
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Free mobile app

Ihave got that experience when my phone become hot

Well, honestly this is not a 100$ phone. So things like this should never happened ...

It's a globally problem

Are you having this problem ?
I have a friend with a white Z1 and he isn't suffering from this.

Someone should contact sony centar about this problem, unfortunatly i cant because i leave in country that companys dosent love so much.

I ve removed the anti shatter film from my z1, The screen feels more responsive now ... I ll wait and see if the problem still persists ...

Ok, give me report on this one.

Ok ...
Things i've noticed so far :
- touchscreen is more responsive without the antishatter film
- if the phone is used only for basic things and does not heat up, the touchscreen works flawlessly
- if the phone is used intensively and heats up, things start to look messy ( for example if i run quadrant 4 times in a row, there is a very very big probability for the "problem" to occure.
- if the problem occures, regardless of the temperature of the phone, if you lock it and unlock it, the problem disappears, untill the next time it appears.

OK this is definitely a hardware issue for this device (globally, it has to be). The only I fixed it is my cleaning the grease/oil/sweat etc from the screen with a piece of cloth or directly washing it with water. I do this once in 3 days, I no longer experience this issue when the screen is clean.

Made another video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N42NX8hP8nM
Ran a stability test which heated the phone to ~40 degrees. As you can see in this video, the problem starts to appear, and disappears as the phone cools down. This happens every time I run the test and the phone gets hot.
Well f*** you Sony !!!

I have exactly the same problem! Only lock unlock fixes it for some time. Very annoying!

It is hardware problem. I had the same problem and replaced it with brand new phone
But I have a new problems on new mobile
Notification bar comes down itself very often (see video below)
Sometimes screen stops working and I have to restart phone
Restarting fixes the problem for a few hours
Can you tell me is this software bug or hardware problem? I can not contact support at this time

i had experienced this problem but it was no hardware problem
+ try to remove any screen guard if applied to your screen
+ try to remove asf
+check if pen mode is enabled and disable it

But how can I disable pen mode? It is not in the settings menu
And one question, what is asf?

The method of reproduce the touch screen problem is established. Confirm it!

1.Turn on your display and wake app like the paintsoft.
2.Put your Z1 onto a insulated one, like rubber sheet and your Z1 has to be naked.(without any cases)
3.Wait 30sec or more.
4.Draw a line, and during drawing, touch the side panel. Left side and right side should be touched by two fingers. and cover of microUSB port and sim port should not be touched.
5.About 70-80%, You can reproduce the problem.

This problem may be caused by bad insulating.
But I don't know this problem is occurred in all Z1s.
This problem of touch panel can be occurred variable timings.
People who playing games or using pattern lock will recognize this problem easily. but difficult for who Not playing games or Not using pattern lock.
This method can detect the potential error of your Z1 it looks no problem.
Please test your Z1. and if the problem is reproduced, you should go to store and make a claim!
and replaced one if you get, please re-test and report here.

My Z1 also have this problem. After 40seconds i even didn't have to touch this two sides of phone.
For few weeks I never saw that problem on mine so I was not worry about it but today I tested few nice games and I realized that after a minute playing the game (Minimotor or HAWX) the virtual joystick stopping working. I have to retouch the joystick with my hand or take off my hand from the phone. All the time.
My question: this is a Hardware problem?

I think hardware. but can be solved by software.
The touch panel is too sensitive?

How it's possible the problem of the touch screen is because is too sensitive? I hope there is a solution via software but for there is some lack of insulated between the touch screen and the rest of the phone. That why when you touch the frame the touch respond very badly.

I think the screen react to very few electrostatic.like touching side panel.
so to make less sharp ,It will be ok. perhaps.
Confirm the problem in my device, hopefully a fix can be found, mine ain't so bad I guess cos it happens only when I press the sides

Actually, It is reported that replaced one has this issue too in Japan.
Sony don't recognize this issue yet!
I did a video by myself and I don't get it! Where is the problem? I mean where is the problem causing the touch screen failing to work. The only 1 thing what I am sure is if I leave the phone for 20, 30 seconds the issue show up with my touch screen with or without touch the aluminum frame.

No issues here, i tested for like 20 minutes and its perfect here

I haven't as yet but I did notice that the touch screen issue I had where my finger / thumb would lose contact briefly with the screen.
Hasn't happened a lot and holding the metal frame fixes it.
What youre describing could be a knock on effect of the new firmware having a higher sensitivity to the previous firmwares, I know Sony were aware of the touchscreen issue that people were facing and there was a fix where you could alter the sensitivity of the touch screen.
Could be that your touchscreen is set too high for your device in particular, either that or it's a problem with the touchscreen or even some dirt.
Give it a good old clean and a few reboots.
All the above is speculation of course, just having a stab at it for you m8.
Not sure where that thread is about the touchscreen but it's definitely in the Z1 forum.

So on the base that you were on you didn't have any issues, Rooting itself will not cause this issue.

Same here, after rooting mine, it starts again the touch screen to respond strange, but not a big problem. Did not had this on .136.

Actually Rooting can cause the issue because the Pre-Rooted version can be different from the original one installed on our phone.
After I received the phone from Repair they updated the Software and then I updated to .136 officially and the issue disappear, never had even a bit of it. Then I rooted, but to do so I used a different Base, NUT use the Frence region I think, and after that on mine .136 the problem with Touch Screen appear again, not badly, all is fine but sometime it skips something.
So I think it's really related to the Software and the all the phone have a specific Base.

Of Course.
i have not experienced ghost touch but i did experience the screen failing to register two finger touch sometimes.
what i mean by that is when u quickly touch another part of the screen after its been touched it would register it as a swipe.
very annoying when typing keyboard or even pressing key pin on lockscreen.
i reproduced this in touch test and
once it registers as a faulty swipe while holding down the touch
it keeps registering swipe wherever the other finger presses untill i stop touching.
also when i installed a fresh rom it seems that the touch is very sensitive.
i tried this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2691849
its not a fix but it helps out.
I think i have drilled down to the cause for this issue.
1. I started mounting my phone on my motorbike and ride. Due to excessive vibration the screen might have started acting out.
2. I also read that x alert causes this.
I have locked bootloder and installed stock ROM. Lets see whats happens

Been trying to find that adjustment you can make for the touchscreen but can't find it. Its an adjustment of a file within android which deals with how sensitive the touch screen is. Buggered if I can find it though. I commented on it too. Eluded me.

I am unable to pin point the problem.
1. Its not bcoz of root/boot loader
2. Not bcoz of mouting it on my bike. Infact when i mount it, it functions normally.
3. Ghost touch worsens when i play clash of clans but it is there other times too.
So its either bcoz of over heating (games make the phone heat a lot) or water entered it or i am not sure.

I always surf the forums and check out what is happening, and this thread did catch my eye
I don't like to think that the touch screen issue is hardware related. I really hope it isn't.

Sony Xperia Z1 problem with the Battery, Touchscreen and Overheating

Hello guys, how're you doing?
My Sony Xperia z1 started making me mad due to several problems.
PS: I'm running android 5.1.
1- Erratic touchscreen:
the touchscreen sometimes starts moving things (open app or notification bar etc...) without touching it
2- Battery
sometimes the battery drop by 10% or 15% randomly
3- Overheating:
my phone became hot after 2 minutes or using the camera!
so, I'm wondering if someone could help me fix one of those problems
sorry for my bad english
Thank in advance
ok, the camera overheating is normal if you're using it for long time, the battery may be for time of use this phone is 4 years old and battery begin to fail try some app to calibrate it if doesn't work replace it and screen touch have you change the screen? if change try to put a black wallpaper and test if the problem persist when you go to home( in developer options check the "show inputs" option and check), and try a stock rom to verify if problems remains.

thank you for the reply bro!
1- The battery is JUST 2 years old!
2- My friend's Z1 start overheating after 10 minutes of using the camera, which is soo good. My phone is overheating after 2 minutes!
3 I'm using an original Rom, I'm not familiar with CFW on Sony! I tried the developpers option and found some problems in the corners of the screen and the phone ramdomly rebooted while I was testing it.
try to flash and do a full wipe then test it again if keeps the same it's probably a hardware problem, the touch can be minimize with screen protector but the battery an camera it's hard to manage.
sorry for my bad English it's not my native language

Allright bro, I'll give it a try. Actually, am not using a screen protector because I'm looking to fix this problem before buying a new screen protector.
I'm having the same problem with my touchscreen, I can't use the phone for more than 5 minutes without having the need to turn it off and on again to go back to normal. This is making me very mad that I'm considering to change my phone to any deep **** cheap phone that has a good screen that I can use normally..
I don't know if it's a software related or hardware, I flashed stock frimware many times and nothing changed, I recently had an urge idea to remove the stock screen protector (that has sony logo) hoping that the problem will get solved, but I guess it won't..
If anyone has an idea to solve this I and OP would be very grateful..
the screen touch is a hardware problem try to lower screen brightness and put a dark screensaver, it's somehow related with the contrast of the screen but not sure how to solve it completely the previously and a screen protector only make it usable but don't solve completely the issue.
sorry but that's all I know

Problem after Screen Replacement

Hi Guys,
I have a very strange problem after i replaced the Screen on my OP3.
My Phone shuttered a few days ago and i bought an replacement screen on ebay for about 85€, price is okay.
So after i (carefully!) replaced the old one, everything seems working fine, BUT everytime i hit Standy, the Screen stays black. But the Phone still on and working fine, the two LEDs from the botton Buttons also working, vibrates etc. (but you cant see anything).
After disconnecting the Battery and connect it again, the Display works again till i hit the Standby Button.
Phone Motherboards seems fine, because i put in back the broken Display and the issue is gone!
Does anybody knows if this is a Hardware issue from the new Screen, or a software Problem (cache etc. idk)
I hope someone can help me or heard from such a problem.
Cheers Robin
Ps. sorry for my bad english

Same problem for me too.
i have similar problems with custom roms, current stock firmware works just fine but few custom rom's that i have tried all have this blank screen problem. First i tought it is proximity sensor releated but test showed that it worked fine so it was something else. I guess i have to buy better replacement screen or just use stock rom.
i too have this problem but i do have a backup of a aospa rom something like that and the screen comes on everytime i press button but not on most of the other custom rom,do any of you know which roms it works on apart from stock that i can use thanks in advance
I think oneplus does something that makes the screens work that the ebay sellers don't.

Probably a driver issue. Flash stock 5.0.5 and then a custom ROM and check whether the issue is resolved.

By flashing 5.0.5, your internal storage will not be wiped. TWRP will be replaced with stock recovery. To avoid that, don't boot into system immediately after flashing ROM. Flash TWRP after the ROM and for good measure, flash Magisk and then boot to system. TWRP will be intact.
Any ROM that is not OOS, is modified by the Dev, however slightly, and it is not stock.
Hi all!
I have a similar problem.
After replacing my screen (LCD Display Screen Touch Digitizer + Frame) with a cheap one paid 28 euro on ebay I'm having a wierd issue.
Initially I had my proximity sensor not working so I had to disable poket mode in order to use it.
After that I noticed that everything else is working properly until I lock the screen, then touch screen stop working.
This shouldn't be an hardware problem because everytime I boot it on first time touch screen is working until I lock the screen, and no matters if I use stand-by button or double tap on fingerprint sensor or just wait.
I'm on stock OOS beta and also with other kernel touch is not working after locking the screen.
Also in stock TWRP touch is not working, now I fix this problem using blu_spark TWRP, with this one touch is working also after locking screen on recovery.
Anyone with this issue? It's really weird
adding screenshot taken from OnePlus manual test using *#808# from phone app
Solved: Touch screen not working after power off/on
Hi,
I just had the same issue...I could solve it be de-activating the gestures at screen-off ("Gesten bei ausgeschaltetem Bildschirm" on my german mobile). I now miss the double-tap to wake the screen, and the "O" for starting the camera, but at least the touchscreen works now
Hope this helps!
However, the screen needs now >1s to turn on when pressing the power button - seems the cheap modules have some issues here

I'm on stock OOS beta and also with other kernel touch is not working after locking the screen.
Also in stock TWRP touch is not working, now I fix this problem using blu_spark TWRP, with this one touch is working also after locking screen on recovery.
Anyone with this issue? It's really weird

Thanks @lattemacchiato for your hint!
I've just find out same solution but after a complete restock and flashing back my Oxygen OS and Lineage OS after that.
I also have same latency on screen wake, and still have proximity sensor like "always covered".
For reference, this is the link of screen I bought:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/113175353134
Meanwhile, I bought another display (more expensive one), which does not have those problems
Search ebay for "ONEPLUS-3-Three-A3000-A3003-Display-LCD-Komplett-Einheit-Rahmen-Schwarz", about 80€.
Black screen solution
Just change proximity sensor rubber problem will be solve...
I too have the same problem... Really want to install custom roms . Now currently is OOS 5.0.6

I'm having exactly the same story! I think Oneplus is playing a game here with the cheap screen sellers. Thanks for sharing this cuz I used blu_spark TWRP and it worked, and I will start now finding the rom that maybe works with this screen as this special version of TWRP did. Maybe if you have already found you can let me know

So I tried the solutions you gave above but they didn't solve it. I did something different and it seems that it solved it. I have enabled the Show taps option in the Developer options and it solved that. Cheers!

this is going crazy now haha
I formatted my phone and i did the same thing again but it seems that the Show taps option (Show touches) wasn't the solution. Now, I'm trying to do what I did before, so I kept clicking on the power button till it jumped to the camera as a shortcut, then I managed to go back to the main menue and it worked. So, it's kind of screen going funny somehow. Anyway, sorry for my lots of replies

It looks like the screen sensor is shifted a bit down below the real screen frame

Oh, I was enabling and disabling the Show Touches and Touch Location options and something happened, the phone restarted by its own, and then the touchscreen started to seem to be better but when I lock it was still got frozen. maybe lots of clicking and enabling will calibrate it and make it better.
@hglyvfd
I understand that many people solved this issue by flashing the stock OOS. Why don't you try it?

Solved - Videos under water

Hi guys,
I'm not sure if this is a known issue but as I did not find any thread about it I just try to explain.
As our lovely P20 pro is/should be waterproof I tried to make some videos under water.
This is absolutely no problem and the results are stunning.
The only "problem" I have is when I start the video outside the water and while recording I put the phone into the water.
As soon as I put the phone into the water the recording ends and it switched automatically to the home screen.
I guess this is because the home button got in touch with the water.
But when I put the phone into the water first and then start the video then it is recording under water and also when I take the phone out of the water it remains recording.
I really appreciate if we could do this vice versa as well - start recording outside water and then dive into water.
Does anyone experience the same issue and come to a fix?
Thx for any feedback!
Underwater videos? You're a braver person than I.
I haven't found a fix myself. It's a shame. Samsung have an option to lock the touchscreen for this exact use.
I have found the P20 Pro is excellent in the water, multiple uses and perfect. Not many phones come out of water unscathed even water resistant ones.
Either brave or stupid......

no risk no fun!
The phone is perfectly capable of going underwater for extended periods of time.
Start the video then submerse, works for me.
Can't control screen underwater but it would work as expected.

To the people worried about the phones ability to stay waterproof, unless you've dropped it and cracked something, you are totally safe. I wash my phone under the tap all the time..
Meant to be 30 mins for 1 meter.
I've done all day with 2 - 3 meters.
No problem at all.
My S5 did more but it got some sand in the mic hole, once it was out it was fine.
This is better made in every way.
It is essentially water proof, the OEM has to have restrictions, but they're overkill.

do you have any special settings activated for this?
On which software version are you?

It's been the same on all versions..
I disable the nav bar and only use the home button..
Besides that it's as yours would be.
Solution:
problem with stopping video recording when submersing into water is caused by the settings of the navigation keys.
Problem exists when I set the navigation to only homebutton.
Once I changed it to use virtual navigation bar or buttons then there is no problem with submersing.
learned something more about this phone today!

Hello, I am having the same issue, but I can not find the options you have mentioned. Are they still available in the latest firmware?

Settings -> System -> System navigation or simply search for "navigation" in the Settings search bar.
Thank you, I was looking for something similar in the camera app settings.
