Alright, so I was wondering since my Xperia Z2 tablet (3 GB of RAM) usually has about 1 ~ 1.2 GB of free RAM with relatively few extra apps installed, how much free RAM does Xperia Z3 Compact have, with it's total of 2 GB , when there are not too many apps installed aside from the pre-loaded ones?

Well since I now have a z3c of my own, I can tell it was (and sometimes still is) about 800 MB. More than enough so far.

Hi,
how much MB RAM has Xperia T ? Sony say 1GB, but phone 642MB (390USED, 252FREE).
On my other phones with 1GB it's value correctly (for example 400USED, 624FREE).
Petr
As far as I can figure out Sony hides the value used by system whereas other phones don't.

I think, the rest of 1GB memory is dedicated to GPU (384MB).
Hi All,
Bought a new Xperia SP! Love it but have 2 issues:\
1) The LED notification for missed calls not working (rest is working)
2) The ram is showing as 786 MB only!

1) +1 (a bug. I believe if you disable STAMINA power mode it works, but haven't tried it)
2) +1 (the rest probably consumed by Android system)

Same here CPU-Z does indeed only show 756MB RAM.

Any one know how to free up more RAM without root. My free RAM is very low and I think thats the reason why Firefox crashes randomly.
And where is the rest of my 1GB RAM?

Actually, I'd also like to know what's using the remaining 200MB or so of the 1GB RAM. Is it the system? Surely the system is already included in the used RAM indicator? Or maybe it's for the graphics?
I do find it annoying that with its advertised 1GB RAM the SP all too easily appears to run out of memory. Loading up complex pages in Opera set for "desktop" user agent frequently causes background apps to be kicked out. Sometimes even Opera appears to be booted out for using too much RAM! This shouldn't happen on a modern 1GB RAM device, when there's still around 200MB RAM free, and a further 200+MB "missing". It's a bit of a joke really... Now I can begin to understand why the latest hardware has 2GB.
Seems 200MB is reserved for the system. And also XBMC seems to use alot of cache memory. Removed XBMC and turned of alot of Sony apps and now I have a decent amount of RAM left.

So, I think everyone still dunno what the "1GB" RAM mean...
usually in android phone, the 1GB RAM was not exactly 1GB, normal scaling is 7XXMB user and system access RAM + 2XX MB system hardware reserve RAM (usually ur GPU - it's like the old Intel GMA)
Then 7XXMB user and system access RAM is further separate to user access RAM and system process reserve RAM (just see how's they scaling)
And it same as other market advertise 2GB, 512MB, etc Android Phone, even S4's user and system access RAM also approx 1.8GB instead of "2GB"
U all are still haven see how's Samsung stock ROM make their RAM usage always in busy usage (If someone got use S Advance with updated JB Stock ROM then u should know)
If got time u all should read this:

What's xbmc?
Sent from my C5303 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
XBMC is Xbox Media Center. It was first developed for the original Xbox.
Now its available for all platforms like Android, , Windows, Linux even Rasperry Pi. Its a complete media center solution with any function you can think of.
Google it, its really interesting. It has full media functionality with its own UI. You can watch movies, stream tv shows through internet, listen to music, run software, its almost a stand alone operating system.
Under Android you can even use your phone as a remote/ keyboard to navigate through XBMC while having it installed on an Android tv stick.

i got the xpeia sp recently and im a bit sad about the multitasking of a mid range android phone and i want to find a solution, i have another really cheap chinese quad core phone and the ram is 1gb too, in the info at antutu benchmark it says 971 mb whereas the sp says 766! im sure there is a solution out there to make the most of the ram and get better multitasking, can anyone with cyanogenmod rom tell us their ram value please?

also some of it s used by the Adreno 320 GPU.
both phones when empty from bloatware, the xperia sp free ram is 260mb and the chinese phone is 422 mb, why?!!!! i want the value to change at antutu benchmark device info to 971 mb instead of 766 mb is there a way??
We have 1 GB of RAM. Aprox 200/250 mb is for system. For:
- Camera; filming does not work without enough RAM
- GPU; If you have a PC and you game a lot you know what i mean
Also for being able to connect, and have the system running smooth there is RAM needed.
About your LED issue:
Stamina mode enabled? If yes disable it or download illumination bar pro
It has been stated many times by sony that stanima mode disables the LED to save battery

The Chinese "Super" phone you refer to more than likely has no manufacturer skin like Touchwiz etc, and zero bloatware thats why it has more free ram.
with a MTK Cortex A7 processor, as for performance goes it cannot compare to the Xperia SP.
you've already been told some of the Ram is reserved for the GPU/Imaging camera system etc.
tweaking androids internal Minfree values can with multi-tasking.

Hi,
I'm a bit surprised that if I add free memory and used memory from the Settings app the total is about 1.7 gb. Ain't we supposed to get 2gb? I hope sony didn't do the hdd trick (see wikipedia page on Kibibyte, I cannot post link as a junior member) and even so 2000000/1048576 = 1.907 ... where's my ram?
Under CPU-Z that show : 1.732Mb.

yes it does but I thought it will be included in the "used memory"... if the OS takes 300 mb that's ok but why I only got 900 mb free when I kill all apps? I used to have a nexus 4 and with the same amount of memory on chip there was a *LOT* more available in the settings menu.

That 900MB figure is about the same I normally have free. Various apps and services take up about 800MB on my phone, which seems excessive but I've turned off all background stuff that I can (some Google and Xperia services just won't go away, however). The only good news is that Android will free up memory if it's needed so that 900MB is not a finite figure (at least that's what I assume).
Hmm. I generally have no more than about 300 mb free memory at any given moment. Even just a few minutes after reboot. No weird apps or excessive widgets. Do you guys really have 900 mb free? You can check your memory on the fly using Cool Tool from Google Play.
The Z3C has 2GB of RAM, don't worry. What you are missing is used by shared graphics memory. BTW: This is exactly the reason why the Z3 has 3GB of memory (instead of 2GB) for its screen resolution is full HD opposed to "only" HD on the Z3C.
Anyhow, is it really necessary to start another thread on the same topic if there already is one?

I have never had any doubts about the two gigs. But how much free memory do you have on your Z3C after a reboot and after a few hours of typical usage? My other phones with this much ram have generally had a lot more memory available at any given moment. Not that *free* memory is of any particular use in android, but I'm still curious to see whether your Z3C's are the same.

When I boot up the phone and immediatly check it shows some 800MB of free memory. About 500 to 600MB after a couple of days, fluctuating though. However, don't think these numbers have any meaning for Android keeps as much in memory as possible in order to increase responsiveness. It also depends on the Apps installed and the bloat disabled/blocked. Further, comparing it to other phones you had earlier might also be misleading since the version of Android could be a different one, hence comparing apples to apples would just not be possible.
Why the roms of the phones with lower specification are small in size, while the roms of the high end phones are large in size.
I do have a Sony Ericsson W8 whose roms goes around 120 MBs including Gapps.
While Roms of Mi3 starts from 300MBs without Gapps.
Here my common sense is working and requesting dev to make a rom under 150MBs with/without Gapps. And I'm damn sure it will then free up some more Ram.
My Sony Ericsson W8 has 180 MB ram and it can handle Jelly Bean.
While MI3 has 2 GB Ram and never shows more than 1GB free ram.
So there's my request to DEVS, to make light-weight rom.

More RAM you have, more RAM apps will use.

Rom size doesnt decide how much ram is going to remain free while usage. It depend how a user optimize and use rom as per his need.
Free ram is wasted ram.
Hi
The title says all, what is the Rom with less system RAM usage?
Thanks
I would say Minimal OS

I am now on mokee 7.1 and have always almost 400mb free
Just stay away from Turbo ROM, I'm using it right now. (Not sure if it's an Android 6.1 Issue or just from Turbo ROM) Right now at this moment of writing my system is taking 484MB of RAM and my apps 230MB leaving me with 178MB free. Rebooting the phone fixes the issue for some time. (I'm not using Xposed nor anything similar, just Greenify).
Anybody from here knows if Android 7.1 requires more RAM than 6.1? Is it worth (or even possible) to downgrade our phone to Kitkat to get that extra RAM boost? Or is it better to stick arround with Lolipop+ ROMs?

I'm on turbo ROM 4.0 and atm I've got 280 mb free RAM and that's what I have most of the time. Free RAM is unused RAM, I think you know that? Don't install all that facebook and messenger stuff and you will have always enough headroom to handle your device properly.

The awesomeness of Turbo ROM.. I really hope that not all of the ROMs are like that..

Android system is taking 700+mb?
That's what your whole phone takes.
I'm on turbo 4.0 official and system is using 205mb. If you have s phone with only 1gb ram (885 free) you can't expect wonders. More RAM would solve this problems.

Yes, you are right I took the picture in the wrong place. I just noticed that on my phone (Turbo Rom 5.0) my system is taking at least half of the phone available RAM for the system ONLY. I't usually between 450 to 580 MB. When I took the previous picture I thought that the System RAM usage rose to 700 (It looks the same). But I still believe that having the system taking half or more of RAM available must be wrong anyway (Look at he picture in this post).
Anybody can give some suggestions how to reduce System RAM usage? Or is it ROM dependent? (I'm not using any mods like Xposed nor other UI Mods)

You have 348 MB free, I used to have 370/380 MB free which is ALMOST 400 MB.

But my system didn't take as much ram as yours. I had those 380 free but with more apps
