Hi all!
I just picked up my Galaxy Gear lastnight and I am now in the process of trying to get it rooted, but im having problems, pretty early on haha
So, what I have done so far is, Turn on USB Debugging (which was already in the menu), and then i installed the Samsung USB drivers, now thats about it, as when I open 'Impactor_0.9.14' and press Start, it just keeps saying No device!
Its driving me insane haha
Im running Windows 8 64bit, so I dont know if that could be part of the problem...
Could anyone help me ether force the correct drivers to be used or just generally help solve this problem!
Cheers!
:EDIT:
Just tried it on an old Win XP Machine and get exactly the same result! what the hell
What software version are you on?
Software Version says its V700XXUCNF1
NF1 is based on Tizen, not android. That's why you're having trouble. You need to follow the thread discussing Tizen rooting.
If you want android, follow the Tizen to android thread instructions. Then you can root the android way.
Damn, I thought they were all android!!
Cheers for your advice, ill see what I can do later today!
:EDIT:
Just had a quick looky, I have found instructions on how to Root Tizen, but Im at a loss for any instructions on how to get it back to Android?
any help on links? cheers!

sweet!
Got that all done!
Do you know if its now been flashed with a rooted version of android or was it just a stock android ROM that was put on when it downgraded?
Cheers for your help mate!
It's stock. You have to root it now.

Hey guys,
First of all, thank you for spending time on reading this thread, I really need your help.
I wanted to root my phone (G1) etc. etc. So I downgraded it but didn't like it at all! So I descided to move back up again (latest software version).
I spent hours on the internet searching for software, firmware etc. And I managed to set my phone to RC33 and firmware version 1.1 ... Now my phone is not what it used to be, I guess firmware version 1.1 is kinda old isn't it? Strange enough my phone says it already is fully up to date...
So my question is; could you guys help me out, with getting the latest firmware/software whatever?
Thank you in advance!
Well, what you could do is: Go back to the earliest framework specified in say the cyanogenmod rom, which is RC29. Use that to flash your phone to gain root. It will be very odd looking because it the lowest thing. But then you can flash the awesomness of cyanogen onto it and you'll be good to go.
Also what you said you wanted to root it, so you downgraded. That is but the first step needed. i wouldnt want to stay there either. So yeah follow that guide and you should be on your way.
Although I will admit that it is probably the best running firmware for the G1 thus far!

So in "short" you'd advise me to:
Downgrade to RD29 *again*
Get my phone rooted
And install the cyanogenmod Rom
Is that correct? Now I don't see all the applications on the Android Market, some disappeared, will they return?
In short, yes. I know it seems odd to downgrade to upgrade. But to gain root you have to use RC29. To gain root its not too bad. you have to use RC29 to do it. You just install that. start it up. And then download the app "telnet" from the market. and then run a few commands. from there you can upgrade back up. And yes you should see everything in the market. Yeah its kinda annoying but there are some great results possible.
A more in depth set of instructions is located on the Cyanogen wiki. I cant post a direct link due to my account status but google "how to install cyanogenmod" and its about the 3rd result.
Got stuck...

Okay, so here's what I did. I downgraded my G1 to RC29, rooted it successfully. Downloaded the latest cyanogenmod, named it setup.zip, went to recovery mode, did a factory reset and installed the setup.zip. Now my G1 won't get past the load screen (which says G1). What did I do wrong?? I can get still into recovery mode...
Thanks for the help so far!
So I came up with an idea, I need to add a new update.zip how to connect to the computer through recovery mode??

Thanks! That did the job. Why does this ROM feel so slow??
Thank you again guys!
I have been looking through the threads, and havent seen what I am looking for. So hopefully i will not get flamed to bad. I tried to install mikeymikes GR12, I got through the first stage of downloading the gingerbread rom to the phone through odin, but then it went south. I lost root and was unable to get back to the download screen. I then tried to use the all in one tool to root the phone, and that put me to the recovery screen where i could not use the ok button, just the volume up and down buttons. I just managed to get the download screen to come back, but i cant get anything else to work. Any suggestions on what to do, where to go from here.
Thank you for your help
I would go back to stock first. I believe your problem lies in the bootloaders. There are two bootloaders in the beginning and if you don't have the gingerbread ones installed, you won't install gingerbread properly.
I would use DesignGears One Click Odin to go back to stock and load the Froyo drivers. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989. Make sure you open up Odin first before plugging in your phone, then hit the Start button.
Once that is done, you can try again, but read about getting the GB bootloaders installed properly before you try to flash a GB ROM. Any of the GB ROM instructions should get you there. Just make sure you know all the steps before you try it again.
Good Luck!!
I don't see why you would be flamed for your question. That is what Q&A is for and you are in a bad spot. The biggest thing to remember is to be as specific as possible when you post a question. This includes what you were trying to do, what steps you took, what was the result, when did the problem occur (which step) and what you have tried to do, if anything to fix it.
One more thing. It is always possible that the USB cable is bad or that the USB port you are plugging into (on the computer) isn't working properly. You might also want to plug into a different USB port.
Sorry these posts are broken up, but as I'm coming up with ideas, I'm posting.
Here's something you should try:
(I wrote this for Team Phoenix, hence the sig.. But it works the same with every ROM. There's a link to a very nice tutorial I suggest you follow).

Me too. If we can ... Remember not all things can be recovered from so please read everything twice before ever touching your phone.
10-4. My next question is: where do I get froyo from. Kies sees my eclair version as unregistered, so it wont update. And my ota sees an update is needed, but when i tried, the area im in has crappy signal, so the update failed and now i have to wait 24 hours to do it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks again
are you planning on flashing a custom rom?
if so updating to official froyo is A HUGE WASTE OF TIME
EDIT:are you Canadian by chance? if so check this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979133
I only plan to root the official froyo right now, that is what I had before I jacked it up. I am not Canadian.

Going on official froyo will get you the signature failed error (which you need the 3e recovery fix if you ever want to flash a custom ROM).
So, basically, if you want more than 2.2 official release. We suggest you don't update. If you're perfectly fine staying on 2.2 Froyo, then there's no problem lol
As for Kies, you shouldn't have any problem using Kies mini. Other than that, there is a 2.2 flash around here. I'm sure you'll find it doing a little search
I had root on my official froyo for a couple of months without a problem. Right now i cant get my phone to go into download mode, it only goes to the battery screen. If i can get to download i can make some headway

If the battery pull way isn't working. You could always go read on abd. It send SU commands and you could get your phone in downlaod mode that way.
Is there an easy way to get adb without getting the sdk. I downloaded the sdk and it keeps saying i need java, when i download the java crap it says the same thing.

MOD EDIT: No links to commercial products please.
I have Streak 7 that came with Android 2.2. I was planning to try and root it, but after I got CWM installed, I found that instructions for flashing a different ROM were a bit more complicated than I was comfortable working with, and never did actually root my tablet. So it's got the CWM mod on it, but I do NOT have superuser access.
I saw a post at the Dell site talking about an Android 3.0 upgrade being available for Streak 7, but the article is from back in October from what I can tell. It said that you would get a notification on your Streak when the upgrade was ready, unless you had rooted your device, in which case you'd have to revert it to factory condition before you could upgrade the OS.
I never did get a notification for the upgrade. Did that ever actually happen? Or did I not get the notice because I have the CWM on my device, even though I haven't actually rooted it? If there IS an upgrade and if the reason I didn't get the message is because I have the CWM on there, how do I get rid of it? I've read some of the threads here about removing CWM, but the one's I've found have all focused on unrooting the device, I haven't found anything that just explains how to get CWM off an unrooted device.
I"m still very much a novice at these things, so if you can offer information on how to get CWM off my Streak, please explain it as simply and clearly as possible. I'm sorry for needing the extra effort, but I haven't learned all the jargon yet, so I get confused pretty easily.
Thank you for any assistance or guidance you can offer!
Hi, this might help you. It is a quote from "TheManii" who is a great help to everyone using the Streak.
"Intro:
The official updates are out for all regions that are going to recieve them.
If you can update via "to settings -> about device -> check for updates" you should use that. If you cannot for some reason here are update zips to manually install them for your device."
-------------
From his explanation on this thread it appears that installing CWM will not prevent an update since you aren't rooted yet. I am not an expert on this device, I rooted my Streak 7 last week using TheManii's instructions. Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286295
Thanks!
I will definitely check that out!
Just wanted to let you know that your suggestion was exactly what I needed. I now have the new version up and running on my tablet!

Hi there I've got and given some help over in the Acer Iconia A500 forum and now i'm hoping I can receive some over here.
I've always just had the stock version of Android on my Nexus, and now that it looks like it's not going to be updated again I'm ready to Root and Rom.
I'm especially looking forward to pushing a bunch of apps over to the SD card (I'm constantly battling the low memory warning)
There is a lot of information out there on rooting this phone but unfortunately most of it seems a bit dated when I look at the posts. most of it seems to be pre-gingerbread.
So, if I have a stock 2.3.6 GRK39F build, how do I start out?
So far form the Wiki I've managed to get the ADB working and USB drivers (Win 7) installed and have my device acknowledged.
From the wiki I've managed to Unlock the boot loader, and wiped my phone :-(
Now what? what is the next step??
Since I've unlocked the boot loader can I now DL cyanogenmod and install it?
or is there more to do?
What's the diffidence between root and unlocking the bootloader?
Thanks for the help guys. I'm sure this is all easy for you now.
-Ozy
After unlocking the bootloader install a custom recovery.
Either CWM or Amon Ra your choice.

Follow up question. I just unlocked the boot loader so I know I don't have root access.
After I flash cyanogen will i have root access by virtue of running that ROM?
Yes once you flash cm7 you'll have root access.
OK guys I did it. I got stuck on booting into clockwork for a while. couldn't figure it out then eventually did.
followed all the instructions on
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide
and got it to work.
Thanks guys!
Ok, I hit a snag.
After installing CM7 I notice that there is no Google voice search on the main search box and no Voice to text in the messaging app? where to find / install google voice search/ voice to text?
U have to download VOICE SEARCH app from market for that feature to work

Help another noob...
I found this thread while trying to make sure I have the most up-to-date links for rooting my new Nexus One, 2.3.6, and GRK39F.
Considering this thread is over a year old, and I wasn't sure what wiki the original poster was referring to, I thought would post to see if there are new developments to rooting my N1...
I'm posting this from xp with google usb ver7 drivers installed through sdk. I also have Windows 7 if I have to use that laptop.
I managed to flash my wife's Stratosphere, but this is really pushing my tech limits....
Thanks!

Read the Nexus One Wiki in this Q&A so you can get a sense of the overall process and then proceed to work on your phone. I recommend that you search rooting process for Nexus One on youtube once you have finished reading the wiki.

I'm glad I rooted and ran CM7 when I did, because about a week after I did all the work my power button crapped out and if not for CM7 and it's "push track ball to wake" feature I would have been SOL.
I haven't gone back to check the links that I used but I know that they worked for me. Good luck mate.
PS I managed to eek another 6 months of use out of my device before retiring it and getting a G Nexus.
Thank you for your responses. Yesterday, I tried rooting without unlocking the bootloader, and it seemed like everything performed as expected, but several apps that require rooting said that my N1 is not rooted. So, I tried rooting, but I'm only getting "Waiting for device." I open the command prompt from the Platform-tools folder, SDK shows that I have the necessary drivers installed...
I'll go back and read the Wiki as suggested, and see what I can learn.
Thanks, again!
I have a question. Can the sdk link from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690362 be used for rooting? Because it says it's an old archived version. So will it still work?

Hi everyone
I'm a proud owner of a Galaxy Tablet. Also I'm very new to forums and tablets for that matter. Recently I got a message in my settings that there is an update available. This is my first tablet so I'm not very expérienced. My tablet is rooted. It crashed a couple of times but all in all seems to be working. My question is if it's safe to update. I read in the forums about phones being bricked and other problems with updating rooted phones and tablets. Is there anything I should do before installing the update to make sure it works?
Any advice is appriciated. Cheers.
Just do the update. I'm not going to guarantee that you won't have problems but this upgrade comes via official channels. I have not had any problems in upgrades with my Galaxy S and S2.
Having said that:
Backup what you can.
Refresh or check the stickies on how to reflash if necessary. So download odin and stock roms just in case. Not necessary but may come in handy.
Otherwise just do it ;-)
P.s this is where I insert disclaimer of having no liability

Just to make sure
Thank you very much indeed for your prompt reply. Dont get me wrong please but I'm so inexperienced that it makes me paranoid. So just to make sure that nothing goes wrong I'd like to verify that were talking about the same tablet. Samsung Galaxy P7310. IT'S ROOTED. (So I don't have to unroot it to update?)
I'll start reading into all this ODIN business since I've never done it. Probably shall have more questions then.
And if we are talking about the same update. Could you tell me your opinion on it please.
Stock ROM
And where could I get the stock ROM for my P7310 (XWKI2 if it's build specific ) please?
And I bought it through Amazon.fr if it's country specific. I already read too much stuff about tablets bought in Hong Kong.
Cheers.
I tried to search within xda forums using [stock][p7310] and there are some firmware models. You may want to try SAMMOBILE as well. As have not done, I cannot be any more specific.
Normally, you should be able to rely on the updates that get pushed through the system. I say 'normally' but you have rooted and 'may' cause some instability. I did notice in Kies that there is an emergency firmware recovery option which is also an option.
Chances are the update will only be 3.1 to 3.2 (am on 3.2 now and ICS may be around the corner). Also an update usually removes root.
Personally, I would not mess with root just yet if you are new. I only started messing around with root and roms on my Galaxy S as there were options to fix specific issues. It's a good learning curve but you spend a lot of time fiddling so make sure you backup.
Thank you very much indeed for your help. I shall be carefull with the root. Now the only programs that use it are Titanium Backup and Ad Hoc Enabler. And I never touch it by myself. Or at least not yet. Your clear answers calmed me down so as soon as I get a bit of time (All this backup/restore business sounds time consuming at least for the first time) I wll definitely update.
No problems. Main thing is to give the update time. Usually takes about 5-10 minutes or less but feels longer watching. I have soft bricked by being impatient during a flash and unplugged from Odin. Reflashing fixed. You shouldn't have these issues if normal update.

the update
Hi everyone
Thanks for your support before.
It doesn't work though. I flashed CWM to create a back up. Did it. And then tried updating. It
downloads. Starts updating. Gets to 12% and then reboots with the message that the update failed
and I should try updating with Kies. Again I read some posts about bricking the tablet while updating with Kies. So I'm here looking for help. Could it be because of CWM. And if it is could I get rid of it just for the update and flash it back.
Cheers in advance.
update doesn't work
Hi everyone
Thanks for everyone's support before. It gave some confidance.
It doesn't work though. It's starts updating and then reboot with the message "Update failed, try using Kies, or go to Samsung service centre".
I removed root it didn't help. I got CWD flashed. Could that be a problem.
Could I get rid if it just to be able to uodate?
Need some help here. Kies seems dodgy judging by the posts.
Thanks in advance.
