Neo discontinued - Samsung Gear 2 Neo

Just went by best buy to pick up a neo and they were out. I was told by the guy working at the samsung kiosk that they were discontinued. Anybody know if there is any truth to that.

Can't say it wasn't coming. All the buzz is for android wear right now and Samsung is killing off tizen(remember bada anyone?). I like my g2n watch even after using the grear live for a little while. Something about a physical button. Kinda wish there was support for porting wear to the neo as I don't want to talk to S-Voice all the time.

I would wait for some kind of real confirmation. Dude couldve been going off a rumor or something.
With Gear S coming next month I can see this coming but as of now i would wait for something said by Samsung

But the gear 2 neo uses Tizen...android wear Is **** compared to tizen as far as available uses..

Luckily I stopped by sams yesterday and they had a few neos left so I picked one up. I was looking online to see if it was discontinued and I saw one other person also say they heard it was discontinued and strangely they were told that by someone from best buy. I know the guy at my best buy said he was surprised when they pulled them off the shelf because they were fairly new and still sold really well.
I cam not sure I agree with tizen being killed off. Wear is nice and I might have gotten a moto 360 of the battery would even last a day, but samsung is about to launch gear s with tizen and they are getting ready to launch tizen phones.

No way is samsung killing off tizan they are just hedging there bets and backing android as well and tizan. Remember the watches from samsung have been released about every 6 months so stock of the gear 2 should now be depleted ready for the gear s to take its place.

I didn't know the Gear S wasn't Android Wear. That's a bit comforting and gives me hope that our watch will still get updates. My speculation was based off blogs reporting on Samsung doing away w/ it's OS for Android.

I'm never buying a non-Nexus device again

I've had the N7 for less than a day and I'm head over heels in love with it. My next phone will be a Nexus for sure.
Useless thread but I just had to share the love.
If everyone bought Nexus devices because of the prompt updates, it would kick other manufacturers into investing in larger software development teams to deliver updates ontime.

As long as there is a choice I will always go for a Nexus, can't be bothered with manufacturers' customisations and carrier restrictions. Whether the Nexus or similar concept will go on indefinitely is another matter.

Any reason why it wouldn't? Aren't they supposed to come out with multiple Nexus phones sometime at the end of this year?
Many people have felt this way for a while now. Welcome to the club! I laugh at people when i get asked "are you getting the galaxy s3?" I did make the mistake of getting the Verizon nexus, but i paid the etf and bought the gsm unlocked nexus. Now I'm back to our Google and my n7 is on its way. Google shipped it yesterday!

If profits at Google fall at some point they may take resources away from the hardware side and concentrate on the software side. Wouldn't like to see that happen but can't be discounted.
If, as seems likely, the Nexus 7 becomes the top-selling Android tablet other manufacturers may decide to withdraw from the sector as they can't compete against a company using consumable sales profits in the Play Store to effectively subsidise their manufacturing costs. Alternatively there could be some form of unfair competition or monopoly complaint. Hope not but wouldn't rule it out.

Seriously, thank you for this.
I was worried when I first came on the Nexus sub-forum, that there was a lot of negativity and issues. And granted there are bad experiences with every first run of any product.... but this is the first phone/media device purchase that I have actually been fairly content with it out of the box. The solution for the OEMS is to keep stock jellybean! To differentiate, include new or different hardware or form factor etc. Then put exclusive apps or features that don't require a change of the system. You could have the play store check for something unique to allow the product download or something. That way there would be no problem keeping it current.

That's Sony. HTC is doing same, but not Samsung.
I mean would be completely stupid to do so, like someone else said , after new year? c'mon, worst time ever.
Plus they would kill the S4 and Note 3 sales completely.
Might be true. I might be even interested, if they plan to do a decent exchange offer for the S4. Frak, I spent 600 bucks just couple of months ago....!
Lol and then S4 will be abandoned (?)

Makes perfect sense. S4 sales are not meeting Samsung's expectations. So they want to introduce new phone.
Also isn't S4 was announced 10 months after S3. And same thing happening here. They are announcing S5 ten months after S4.
S3 was announced in May 2012 and S4 was announced in March 2013. Which makes S5 announcement near January 2014.
Samsung going to mess again... with its SoC Lol

If they do abandon it, let's say completely, don't forget the level of talent and the amazing work that is being done and will be done here on XDA! Let's not be hysterical here yet.
They need to step up their customer support but we need to be level headed and cool about things also.
We'll have kitkat, and who knows what happens after that!
And remember, even if samsung vanished overnight, you'll still have a lovely phone with a beautiful screen and lots of great apps to use!

It's not the age, it's the mentality. Some 10 yr olds are ready for something like that. As technology grows, so do we. Heck, I had a Casio watch when I was young, it was the new hotness at the time. The Gear is no different. If the kid is able to have a compatible phone, he's able to have the Gear.

I see your point but, all I am saying is that just cause you can does not mean you should. Again, in this economy unless you have plenty of expendable cash, I would not recommended.
It's all about parenting and since it's someone else's child, they should make the decision and not be asking in this forum if they should or not.

That's a case of having either a smartwatch that works with your phone to bring notifications or having a normal watch that tells the time and does an alarm and a stopwatch.
If you want a watch just for telling time, it'd be a better idea buying a standard watch, ith batteries that can last for a good few years.
If you want the smart functions though, go for the Gear.
But seeing as this is the Gear vs a standard watch, its not really a comparison...

Since you asked... for a 16 year old... I'd highly recommend the Casio Pathfinder Series ... besides looking over the top cool they last forever, provide a lot of functionality don't have to worry about breaking... Just a lot of style plus stuff like temperature, altimeter, satellite time setting, compass and solar charging... no plug in required.
Ha, u can tell I'm a big time g shock Pathfinder fan... And it doesn't need an attached smartphone.
The Gear is top notch quality (yes I actually owned one before returning it) and if you do get one you'd like it. Can't go wrong either way.
I returned my GEAR simply because I didn't think it was rugged enough for me. I love smart watches but was looking for something similar to my previous Motoactv watch which could do mp3s, gps, running, biking, and was great for golfing and even synced with my old s3.
Hopefully the next version of GEAR will be more rugged.
If I were sixteen I'd worry about damaging the Super sweet GEAR... Thus I'd recommend a rugged Pathfinder.

Unconfirmed leaks on other sites have it pegged for carrier release in January. Plus time for them to add their BS and we're looking at late February at the earliest.
But don't get too excited about it. The devices that have received it are all missing various features. Some don't have the transparent navigation bar, nobody's getting the Experience Launcher, etc. Makes it sound more like an incremental update than anything groundbreaking.

This is what has me excited. Pure vanilla Android is ugly and devoid of features. Adding Samsung's features is what makes Android at this point. Looking at KiKat on a nexus has me patiently waiting for KitKat to drop on my S4 with all the Samsung additives. Thanks God for the additives.
And Samsung reps are not BestBuy employees. At least that's how I understand it. They do not work for BestBuy but Samsung.

True. But the vast majority of users here don't get paid to sell electronics. Too many Sprint, Samsung, Verizon, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc, etc "reps" don't know much about the products they sell.
Ever go to one of those places and know more about their products than they do? Most frustrating thing ever. If they don't know about their own products, how the heck are they going to know about OTA dates?

Google does the update and then sends it to Samsung for testing. IF Samsung decides the update is worthy and fits into their business plan for the life of the phone, they will test the update and correct things that are specific to the S6. IF that is completed then they send the update to Verizon, who in turn, decides if it fits in their business plan and the planned end of life for the product. If Verizon decides to pass it along then they update the code with their specifics and then they release it to the phones.
All of that has to go good before we knaves might see an update.
Unfortunately Android updates and timeline does not fit into the end of life plans for phones by the carriers. That is why we usually only get one or two updates.
Just saw this while searching online tonight.

If you do get a new phone I strongly suggest you get the Nexus 6. A bunch of support and you can unlock the boot loader and get any ROM you want it's awesome. I've been loving mine!

Yeah it's a catch between the nexus 6 and the turbo 2 if I decide to move away. The turbo 2 in terms of hardware is slightly superior, but unfortunately it seems like it's suffering the same fate as my current phone

Yeah so I've heard. Definitely would recommend the Nexus 6 as I'm using it right now and its amazing but its your choice. Price wise its pretty cheap too. Got mine for $225 on swappa
Starting to roll out from Samsung. Verizon will likely take forever to send it out though....
