Greetings all,
Per the above; is this possible? Hoping for an outcome whereby pressing the physical shutter button, whilst the phone is turned on, but not in the camera, loads up the camera app.
Thanks in advance
Yep, you just hold the shutter button down and it activates the camera from any screen. Also works when the device is locked and screen is off.
Can you reverse this with settings?
So can you stop the camera loading up by some setting on the phone disabling the physical shutter button?
As it's being accidentally pressed while getting the phone out of my pocket?
Cheers!
Probably not without rooting, but the button requires a fairly long, full press to activate the camera so I can't see it accidentally starting the camera by just getting it out of a pocket (it's certainly never happened to me)

It is possible to disable this feature. I have done this since I kept getting pocket pictures as well. You have to go into the camera app, open the menu and select the third tab (the one with the screwdriver and spanner icon). The first setting on that tab is called "Hurtig start" on my phone which is in danish. I would expect this to be a translation from "Quick start" or something like that. This setting have four options, the last one being "Slukket" which is probably a translation of "Turned off". When selecting this option the physical camera button stops doing anything unless you are already inside the camera app.
Sorry about it being landscape

Hi.
Does anyone know is to possible to set camera in manual mode by default when launching via camera button or lock screen shortcut ?
It's launching as I want only when I tap the camera app from the drawer. When launching from lock screen or dedicated button it always start in this crappy auto mode.

I think such a thing (if possible) can only be done with root.
It's also annoying me, but it's been like that on all previous phones.

well, I just got mine and on one of the home screens I have a whole row just for the camera. There I can pus a little "settings" button in the far right corner and I can select which camera shortcuts to have there, one of them is "manual". Have you seen that?

He means when using the camera button.
It always starts with superior auto. When starting the camera through the app, it does remember your settings.
So I have to wait for some nice custom rom fixing this issue

On the Z1C, this couldn't be changed with root as well, so I guess we'll have to live with that. Maybe Android L fixes this.
Any news on this having root already on our devices?

An update recently came out, called Lollipop, and I guess it fixed that issue as seen on the preview.

This issue has not been fixed. I'm also still looking for a way to disable superior auto mode and always start the camera in manual mode when pressing the hardware camera button.
Hello there, I tried it with the xposed module xposed additions pro, but even after several tries I had no luck. I'm rooted on stock 5.1 and I'm sure there is a way to change the behavoir of the long press action of the camera key but I didn't find it yet as I'm very new to this phone. Let's share experiences!
cheers!
It appears if you have burst mode turned on, there is no way to take a single picture with the half -> full press button sequence. It automatically categorizes it as a burst, even if you only take one. This is annoying because you can't scroll through all images in the gallery. Anyone else experience this?

Why is this in Themes & Apps ??
Because the camera app is an "app"

Change it to another mode if you don't want it to take burst shots..
That's rather the point of that mode really..

You aren't understanding. There is different behavior. Using the soft button, you can take a single shot with a rapid press. You can also rapid press the hard button and get a single shot. Once you use the hardware button with a half press, you get a single shot but in a burst sub folder no matter how fast you press the button. Bug

I'm not sure that's a bug, bro. You turn on burst mode, all photos save in burst folder. Sounds like they probably intended that, unless I'm missing something....

Suggest you please move this thread to "Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting"...
I don't think I can move threads. A mod is free to although you could argue either way for which forum this goes in.
The bug is undeniable. I didn't turn on "burst mode", I turned on "burst on long press" - HUGE difference. Behavior should be the same across different input methods. So pressing the soft button quickly focuses and shoots one normal shot in the gallery. Pressing the physical shutter quickly shoots one normal shot in the gallery. Pressing the physical shutter half way and then fully depressing shoots a single shot but "categorizes" it as a burst shot so even though there is only 1 picture, it shows the burst icon and has its own folder.
Understood your problem, same on my device. The thing is we only want a burst sequence when we press the shutter full for a longer time. If we press it full only once, it should make a normal photo. Thats what i would expect from this function.

bingo
Same for me. Have switched off the function. Shame as there doesn't seem to be another way to take a burst of photos. There's a "timeshift burst" photo app which is nice but it's not the same and only takes low res photos.
Is it possible to have the physical shutter button launch a different camera app? My particular phone is rooted, if that helps make this possible...
I swear the stock camera app never gets a picture in focus, but others do just fine.
Currently there's no way of changing the mapping of the physical buttons found on the phone
I was able to get this mostly working with the Tasker app.
The "Camera Button" is one of the built in Profile actions. I just linked that to a Task which launches a different camera app. This works fine as long as the stock Sony camera app is frozen/disabled.
The only limitation is that unlike the default behaviour, it does not work when the phone is locked. With the stock camera app disabled, the camera button has no effect when the phone is locked. I'm not sure if this is a limitation of Tasker or something else. I'll keep poking at it....
"Do Not Cover The Top Of The Screen" - "Touch Disable Mode" - Cant Use In Armband.
Hi guys,
When I try to use my P20 Pro in my running armband it comes up with the error-screen "Do Not Cover The Top Of The Screen". I can replicate this by covering the front cameras and trying to unlock the phone using a pattern.
A few weeks ago I installed the "Settings Database Editor" app from Google play, which allowed me to modify the setting "Touch Disable Mode" to "0".
This worked great, no more error-screen.
However, my phone updated last week to 8.1.0.130, and I get the error-screen again. The "Touch Disable Mode" option in "Settings Database Editor" has disappeared too.
Any ideas how to get around this?
It is really annoying having to set my music playing, set the Strava running app going, insert phone into armband, put armband on, then start running.
When it warns you, it also tells you touch to inactivate. Which means doing that should disable the alert, secondly it says something about press volume to adjust alert zone or something.

When it warns, it does say you can override this by pressing power and volume up simultaneously, however this is only to override it that once - it's not a permanent override. If the phone is in an armband, it's not possible to press power and volume up without taking it out of the armband.
There's no "Touch to Inactivate" option.
For me it tells me touch to inactivate, secondly it says to change alert zone press volume buttons or something alike it. It could be a bad translation they did idk

I think it may be a bad translation on your one... You can test it by waking up with side power button (not fingerprint) then cover the top sensors of the phone before unlocking it with a patter / pin.
Hi,
Does anyone know if there is compatibility for the old camera app on the new One Ui? Or is it possible to port it now or in the future?
Two things make the camera a downgrade when switching to the new One UI, for me at least:
- You had a separate button for video and picture, so you were one touch away from taking either a video or a picture. I had a really nice setup where I could take a video with the volume buttons and open camera and take picture with 1 click of the Bigsby button. This proved really useful when i went horse back riding for the first time, or with gloves on when the screen is not responsive.
- More importantly: You had a dual shot mode where you could take pictures/video with both cameras at the same time. This was really useful when trying to fit more people in a picture, or even for me to be in there, and have a nice memory stored.
They also locked the Bigsby button so you can no longer disable it... again...
Search for the app on apkmirror and try installing it.

I agree with you. I would also like the previous functionality of having both the camera and video buttons on the same screen again.
As far as the Bixby button goes, you can use BxActions to disable and remap the button. It works pretty well.

I do use BxActions, but how do you prevent Bigsby from appearing when you press it? You used to have to disable it from the Bigsby app, and yo no longer have that option.

I disabled my single press function. I only have a long-press function for my flashlight. Bixby doesn't show up for me when I single-, double-, or long-press the button. Occasionally it'll show the icon at the top and it did open Bixby once, but I couldn't figure out under which circumstance that was and I couldn't replicate it again since. Bottom line, Bixby doesn't show up for me when I press the button.
