Wouldn't it technically be possible to bring AOSP ROMs to the s5 by basing i on TW instead of AOSP? Then it'd be flashable in SS
Umm...then it would just be a TW ROM
It might work better if you base it on Sense.

Ummm.... No. That's not how it works. Touchwiz is incorporated and imbedded in almost every aspect of the stock ROM. It is major work to remove Touchwiz from a single app like S.Note. Touchwiz is not a couple of apps that can be removed. It has dependencies running through everything. It would be akin to curing AIDS in someone by simply removing all their blood.

I think you missed his approximation that it is about 20% TW. Like I said you can't remove Touchwiz from a Touchwiz base. You can theme it with AOSP (launcher, lockscreen, etc), debloat it, but you will still be using Touchwiz kernel, systemui, framework... So basically you still end up with a 600 MB AOSP themed debloated TW ROM... Not the 200MB true AOSP speedy, light ROM.

Not quite...
You can take an app from AOSP and modify it to work in touchwiz and vice versa, (it's called porting, shhh... Don't let the secret out! ) that's got nothing to do with removing touchwiz.
Besides, if you're removing touchwiz from a stock ROM, you can save a ton of time and effort by simply flashing AOSP, or building it from source.
If you're after that particular ROM on a different device, you have to do that super secret process I mentioned above...
Slithering from the nether regions of a twisted mind and tarnished soul
@pulteb please read your PMs..thanks.

i want to try editing the apk's themselves and retheming them... but i havent any tools to edit the xml in them yet.. so i can change things like font colors.... so i would rather replace them with the tried and true original GAPPS...
I plan on theming these apps in my rom. Just haven't got around to it yet.
You do it through editing their individual apk's?

In this case, yes. In stock Android many parts of these apps are themed by editing system wide images in framework, but unfortunately most of LG's apps are self contained in regards to the themes. I have already themed most of the framework in my ROM yet not much within LG's apps like the calendar, phone, dialer, etc. has changed. I will have to go through each app one by one and theme them. You could try pulling AOSP variants of Calendar and Mms to replace the LG apps, but there will likely be some bugs. You definitely can't just replace the phone and dialer apps because those are heavily integrated with the system.
Yeah I figured... I dont know how your planning on theming them to match your rom... But im gonna theme em to try and match aosp... As best as possible... Gonna take some time... Haha... Theming is so time draining... Haha

Tell me about it. Theming takes forever. Especially if you want to make it look good.
my reputation... Or whatever is left of it came from the windows mobile days... I skinned any program with the resources or xml... I got very good at having an eye for what looks good... But like you said once you know what looks good... To take your time and make it happen... Takes hourz of work... I dont think ppl realize what a drain of time it is... They just make requests... After requests and wonder why they aren t released yet... Lol...
Anywho... Tryin to start building a rep for android theming now that I have a real android device... Haha need to get eclipse to do xml though...

I wonder if it's possible to rip the software from the S III and port it to the galaxy note. Do you guys think it's possible to see roms running this? On HTC phones it happens but I haven't seen that ever happen with a samsung phone. Any thoughts?
I doubt it would be a direct port, however I'm sure some functionality can be ported via apks

I think the tw launcher is balls but all the other touchwiz stuff is class, I'm just gutted we lost the screen brightness in statusbar! We need that back!
I don't know why people hate the new touchwiz so much. It looks great, and it is the SMOOTHEST launcher I have ever seen. Just look at a video of the S III. There isn't a single stutter. And I love the 3D animations it does when you switch between pages. I also like the shadows that icons have now with the new touchwiz.

No offense guys, if you want to have yet ANOTHER war on favorite launchers, which btw is extremely pointless as every person has their preferences on launchers (apex this, nova that, go launcher ftw, apex rules, etc. etc....), then take it to another thread. The OP here is reaching out to Devs and other members of the XDA community about the possibility of adding some touchwiz 5 features to our beloved Note, or even porting it over completely ( which doesn't sound plausible ). I for one would love the new voice recognition and the lock screen effect is pretty slick, so +1 to those features .
I wasn't sure if I wanted CyanogenMod on the Nexus 4. I tried the stock android for a week or so and was dithering on it. Finally I decided to try CM (I've used it on all my previous Nexus devices) and I was reminded why it's just plain awesome! Within minutes I was delighting in the additional options, the extra preferences, the ability to drag down at the right to open the switch screen, all that stuff. It's pure magic.
If you're a tinkerer, I recommend it. The monthly release has been pretty stable for me so far.

I like the stock, but there were lots of things I realised after installing that I'd missed from earlier CyanogenMod versions. I like the additional customisability of it. I can see that stock makes more sense if you want a phone to work reliably with minimal tweaking. Personally, I like to be able to configure it just the way I like it, to tune and tweak the power icons, the various panels, and so on. For example, I particularly like being able to disable the search bar on the homescreen and stretch the launcher to fill the screen. But horses for courses...

Hi,
More this one for help and questions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33588118
ROM: Stock MDL Deodexed Rooted
Kernel: KT SGS4 Kernel (6/10/13 build so Dual Shot still works)
Mods: CrossBreeder, Xposed with Nottach Settings, 1X/3G Mod, CRT-Off Animation, Hotspot Mod, Reboot Mod, N7 Animation Port and Android 4.3 Camera **All credit goes to the creators of those mods!**
Theme: Stock, sometimes I'll switch to a lightly themed AOSP look
Goodies: Google Now on and fully functioning and all Samsung features on (Air Gesture, Air View, S-Voice and all of it's functionality, etc.)
Favorite Apps to enhance experience: Google Now, Tapatalk, Beautiful Widgets, Android Pro Widgets and Floating Notifications
My phone runs SO smooth. Zero lag what so ever and it's just such a smooth as silk UI and it just looks beautiful. I HIGHLY recommend the crossbreeder app because I definitely notice a difference I can guarantee you that. My favorite ROM by far has been the stock ROM, I legit haven't even tried another ROM yet because I love the stock one so much and with all those mods it's like I'm running my own custom ROM, I do however plan on trying the Google Edition S4 ROM sooner or later though. If you like smoothness, some [email protected]$$ mods and just the "cool factor" look I would recommend trying out some of those mods as I've linked all of them. With all of this, according to GSam Battery Monitor I still average about 1 1/2 days of battery life with an average screen on time of about 4 hrs!
Feel free to post your setup and what you're running and why you run it!
No one else wants to share?! Got this idea from the Verizon general section and it seemed like a cool concept. Guess not

Widgets are amazing but a lot of people think they kill battery, I highly disagree though!
