I'm getting my z3c on the 1., and I'm very excited.
I have a question though;
How long do you think it'll take before we get root on this phone, to open up for some more advanced functions ? I know no-one can say for sure, but you guys migth take a shot based on your experiences.
This will be my first new phone in years, so I'm not in the loop about how long this usually takes, after a phone comes out.

Would be a first step but useless until we got a recovery with zip flash ability
Is there a dev actively looking for a way to root locked bootloader? If yes, does he have a blog or Twitter? I want to follow his progress..

If we had a recovery, that tool wouldn't even be necessary xP
I'm guessing Doomlord will, in time, come up with something. Doesn't he always...?
Though I do believe we need to find a security hole to even get a recovery working (correct me if I'm wrong here).
EDIT: I've also tried every one-touch root apps and various Windows programs. None of them work ;-;
Damn you, Google, for hiring exploit patchers with such skills!

Patience is a virtue. But having the reason I bought the device go away if I unlock the bootloader is just unfair, imo.
I can't choose between a good camera and making my own kernels ;-;

Having bought all my devices over 6 months after they were released was probably much better for me than I ever realized xD
I'm tinkering with the idea of modding a stock FTF with root and whatnot and flashing it with flashtool. Anyone tried that yet? Or is everyone too busy looking for that one exploit they're unlikely to find?
EDIT: Back to the drawing board. Seems like things have changed a lot since I last took a look at an FTF.

you can make a prerooted firmware with prfcreator, but then its a flashable zip and we can only flash ftf files?

Well considering most people don't want to unlock their bootloaders and miss out on the amazing camera, we can only flash FTFs (Sony-signed software).
(No system/boot write access, so finding an exploit is crucial.)
Looks like my Nokia 6210 will have to keep doing its job for a while

Hey guys,
I'm extremely sorry for opening this thread.! Please forgive me. I posted my question in another thread but didn't get a reply. I am from India and I want to buy Xperia T (which hasn't officially launched in India) from eBay. I was worried about the official jelly bean update for the phone. As tge phone hasn't launched in India the eBay people are providing imported phones. I found a tutorial to manually update the phone here: http://android.sc/update-the-sony-x...o-official-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-firmware/
This is a flash tool method to flash the official 4.1.2 update only for Xperia T LT30p. I just want to know whether this method is COMPLETELY RISK FREE and there is NOT EVEN A SLIGHTEST CHANCE TO BROCK THE DEVICE BOUGHT FROM ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD???? I want to know this as the Sony service centre in India won't even look at the phone if there is any problem! Please asure me of this flash tool method by taking a look at it and also,
can you please refer to this thread:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136173 and tell me what can cause this type of problems? The person who started this thread who has posted 'something' about Xperia T and he is from India! And he bought his phone from Germany! I tried searching the net for 'Xperia T India' but I couldn't find a thing. So I just want to be sure about the flash tool method mentioned in the above link. Has anyone done that before?

Then how do you suggest I update the phone safely and securely to the official jelly bean update? Or could you please give me a link to a thread where the question has been answered or to a safe tutorial to update the phone? I tried searching but I wasn't able to find anything that answers my question! And does this depend upon the region from where the phone is? Will I be able to update the phone using this method? Can anyone please help me with a detailed answer?! PLEASE!!
There is no 100% foolproof method, even the sony official method can ruin your phone if YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.
However, IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS it will work.
Just try it.

Thank you very much... I was just looking for some confirmation. But now I got to know that this flash tool method is as safe pc companion method(correct me if I am wrong) I am pretty good at following instructions and also I have a rooted, bootloader unlocked, swaped xperia x8 running CM10. I am just so worried because I'm 17 and hence I don' t earn a single penny myself and this xperia T should last me atleast for the next 3 years. Would you please give me confirmation once again just for my satisfaction and also some general advice you think is necessary before following the above method? Like region verification, build no., kernel & firmware version, etc

Yes, rest assured, it's totally risk-free, using flashtool and flashing STOCK roms and kernels is risk-free, provided that you carefully follow the instructions...
for the firmwares and kernels, regions and the rest, don't worry about these things, as you know, you can flash ANY GLOBAL firmware, whether it is for France or M.E. or Malaysia, so don't worry, just search and see what build number is the last firmware for your T, then flash it, and thanks to DoomLord, you can root it even you have locked bootloader, using his rootkit, so don't unlock the bootloader for now
wish you best of bests, bro

Yup.. I did give it a thought! But its out of my budget... or otherwise I would have bought a nexus 4 16GB! Though xperia T is nowhere near the nexus 4 in terms of looks and hardware but it looks much better than SP. Also the SP has just 5.8GB of usable internal storage.... I felt really sad that I can't buy nexus 4 as it costs 100USD more than Xperia T and SP costs 70USD more... But then I thought I'm just 17! Not everyone of my age is lucky enough to own such a phone.. Many of my aquiantances can't even operate a Galaxy Ace!

No,
They are development threads made by xda users and are not based on Sony FW
He is asking for a prototype FW from sony, its an initial release of FW for journalistic and testing purposes. It is never released publicily, but there have been leaks in the past (Notably the first Sony JB release was leaked)
I do believe it only works on what are known as "Brown" Devices. i.e not for public sale

Still, original android development roms are not protytype firmware
They are not even firmware (FTF files) but flashable, rooted and heavily modified .zips and nothing to do with official/unofficial releases from Sony
Why Sony is so damn restricted..
Every company has FW they don't release
You will find Sony is actually the most dev friendly OEM there is. That is why they have been voted XDA OEM of the year for the past 3 (Or maybe 4) years.
They are the only company that actively works with devs on xda

True, but that is a user problem, the stock releases have no problem. Its only a problem if you want to "mess" with the phone (Like we all do) then we do so with the caveat that we are messing with a stable system and we may make it unstable in some ways.
That's the fun and the joy in the journey
PS, unlocking the boot does not give you new firmwares. FW are official releases from sony. Custom roms are made by non sony developers and are not official

I agree 100% but Sony do not own Android, even if it is a part of a stable product we messing around with Android and we testing they product. They should be grateful for that. They also learning from us so why don't give the right support to the customers.
We are not testing their product, they do it themselves, they are aware that there is a lot of android users that choose android in order to have more control but a lot of software on the phone is their intellectual property and they have every right to protect it.

The latest firmware update for the AT&T S4 (NB1) does not yet have a direct root method. The obstacles for obtaining root on this phone (S5) and that phone are generally the same. So I would say root will be achieved on the S4 (newest firmware) before or at the same time as root for the S5. So I would say you are correct about it taking a little while.
I was under the impression that the CF-AUTO ROOT Method would work on the at&t SGH-I 337. Please advice

Nope. Won't work. There is no direct root method for NB1 yet. There is a work-around that involves SafeStrap and installing a pre-rooted ROM, but that's it at the moment.

(Quoted from Chainfires Google+) That's impossible to predict, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it. It may take months or never happen. If root is important to you, get an unlocked device and be sure you'll have it.

Better hope this guy succeeds: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51944477&postcount=79
Anyone else try @Chainfire cf-autoroot yet for the SMG920T?
I have tried several times and Odin keeps stopping at NAND Write Start and nothing I try can get it to go past that point.
All thanks to @Chainfire for his amazing work!

I am rooted using CHAIN Fire's CF AUTOROOT - the trick is you have to use the Latest ODIN - 3.10.6 I think - here is a link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3109599&d=1420980613
Donf use the ODIN that comes with CF Auto Root unless he has updated it to the one I have linked to here. THis is the only one that works that I know of.
GOOD LUCK

Trying it out now. Will let you know. The cf-autoroot I downloaded came with 3.07. When that didn't work, I tried 3.09, so now it's onto 3.10...
EDIT: Worked like a champ. Thank you.

Worked great. Have another question...
An app: com.T-Mobile.PR.adapt
Is requesting SuperSU access. I can't find anything on this app. Are you familiar with it? It only asks at boot. I went in and told it to forget it and haven't heard from it since.

I saw that too but I didn't know what it was and wasn't sure what would happen if I didn't accept it - so I did - maybe I should forget it? What could it be?
I haven't figured it out yet. I denied it until I know what it is. Also has to manually freeze and remove all the Knox crap, SuperSU didn't ask me to disable it...
If we root, will Knox be tripped if we don't install it?

Yes, it will trip your Knox counter.
That brings me to a question I had, hopefully @Chainfire can answer. ..
After root, supersu didn't ask me to deactivate Knox; why? is it safe to go and freeze or remove all the Knox crap?
Unfortunately I'm waiting until I hear more information on Knox in regards to Samsung Pay. I know Chainfire and others mentioned the possibility of it needing an un-tripped counter, but until we know for sure I'm staying un-rooted (which is killing me).

As was mentioned in the cf autoroot thread in the main galaxy s6 forum... You haven't had Samsung pay so far, so if you don't get it with root, you won't be missing anything you had...

Interesting logic. Perhaps that was one of the features he was looking forward to when purchasing the phone? I mean, come on now...

You don't think someone might have bought the phone looking forward to an announced feature?

If you search on it - you will find another thread. It seems to be a T-Mobile security app (At least that's what the other users think). I do not know what it is but they recommend....
Do not give it access and freeze it with TB.

I think he was saying the logic of 'you never had it, therefore you won't miss it if you don't get it' was stupid. Whereas you were being a little more gracious saying it was 'interesting' logic. In all honesty, it is a ridiculous argument. Of course you will 'miss' features that the phone should include if you lose them due to root. Even if you would not have used the feature, it still is a missing feature, just one you personally do not care about.

It wasn't whining, it was originally commenting on a fairly ridiculous response that you had. But I'm glad you're actively campaigning for the job of forum moderator. Keep it up!:good:
Root after Update?
I received the S6 two days ago. It came with Android Ver. 5.0.2 and there was an update available as soon as I activated the phone. I have not yet taken it. Has anyone taken this update and then rooted successfully?
Hey All,
I've spent days now scouring the web looking for anyone and anything to root my G920A running G920AUCU3CPD6 (Marshmallow 6.0.1). There is absolutely nothing I could find. I have queried just about every method, and I have several emails out to various developers, sw companies, etc., but nothing yet. Is there anyone out there who can help?

No.
Jeez
Wow what a blunt reply. Anyway I have also been probing the far corners of the clearweb for a root on this device. No luck. PingPong root doesn't support it, SRSRoot says that it rooted the phone, but it doesn't actually work. I'm not going to try to flash a rom with odin cause i need to keep the data on it. Lmk if you find anything out. Peace.
I believe the next logical step would be to try reverse-engineering parts of the new kernel and look for exploitable bugs, rather than looking for work done on the subject by other individuals and attempting to classify them as the same thing.

I don't care about the data, since I lost it already anyways. I would be willing to flash via odin, but didn't find anything useful. Sounds like you may have?

I wouldn't even know where to begin with that, bit outside my technical expertise. Is it something you are familiar with? Or can you point me in the right direction?
Can I downgrade from the PD6 OTA? I am running 100% official. I see there are no tools for rooting 6.0.1, but can I odin down to a version of 5.1.1 that I can root? It's been a while since I have done that, and IIRC sometimes it's impossible to downgrade once you have upgraded. I don't care about Knox or Samsung Pay, losing those is fine.
Thread jacked! Haha
I heard you can, man. Check that 'Root 5.1.1 with a snag' thread that Metalcated started.
I think somebody mentioned you can. Usually you can't - you're right - but I don't think this bootloader was enforcing it. Worse comes to worst it'll just fail to ODIN it and you're stuck. No real risk of bricking. :good:

I mean, a good hex editor would be a start.
Maybe like IDA Pro? I love IDA :3
You could probably scope out some good Android disassembly tools if you look.
Maybe checking the AOSP code itself?
Maybe look into the Android system images that you can download with the SDK?
Not sure. A bit out of mine too, but definitely an area of interest.

Will be trying this on my G920A soon. (PD6)
Short answer: No.
Long answer: it's not public yet. I saw many people in other forums talking about a private method that allows them to root G920A 6.0.1 and untethered (unlike the one we have right now for 5.1.1). I do not have the files and I don't know if it's going to be released to the public. I hope one of the insiders leaks it soon because I don't wanna upgrade to 6.0.1 without root.

Not happening unless we get a leaked engineering bootloader from someone with connections to AT&T.
