[Q] buying moto g2nd gen - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys i'm going to buy new moto g 2014 model in this week and have few questions
1- Does new moto g has yellowish or washed display ....how is the display color production of new moto g compare to old ?
2- How is the battery backup compare to old moto g?
My bro using old moto g and its display and battery life is very good compare to my Old HTC sensation.
Thank you

1. No.. New moto g doesn't have any yellowish display..
2. battery back up is around 20 hours for average users..

Thanks for quick reply
But in video comparison on YouTube
New moto g display looks yellowish than old ..

I think that depends on individual device. My moto g don't have yellowish display.

1. Both black and white are displayed quite good
2. Battery time is compareable to the old Moto G

Nexus 4 screen vs optimus g screen

First of all I have understood that these 2 phones have THE EXACT SAME SCREEN(Same LCD PANEL), so...
I just got an Optimus G and I notice that the screen looks WAAAAAAY BETTER than my Nexus 4, even tho I have flashed franco kernel and tried different gamma settings on the Nexus 4, the Optimus G screen just looks better, colors look less washed out, the contrast is just better, and that Optimus G is already rooted and running an AOSP ROM with custom kernel so, I dont understand why is the difference so big, shouldn't they look exactly the same or almost identical?
And the important question is this, IF these 2 phones have the exact same panel, it means I can make the Nexus 4 screen color profile EXACTLY like the Optimus G, but hey changing different Gamma values hasn't helped at all, no matter what gamma or rgb configuration, it doesn't even come close to how good the optimus g looks, before getting this optimus G I swore the Nexus 4 screen was good but now its total crap to my eyes, SINCE I HAVE BOTH DEVICES, I would like to know HOW DO I GET THE COLOR PROFILE OUT FROM MY OPTIMUS G, AND HOW TO APPLY IT TO THE NEXUS 4 to see if I can make them look the same...
PS:
1.My Nexus 4 screen is perfectly fine, its not damaged or anything, believe me the optimus g just looks better its no mistake or factory issue.
2. Dont ask why I got the optimus G I just wanted to get it.
3. IT IS OBVIOUSLY THE OPTIMUS G, NOT THE OPTIMUS G PRO.
I've been trying to figure that out also. My gf had the optima and I the nexus. Love my nexus, but her screen is amazing. Mine is just blah.....
Side by side you can actually tell that the optimus g has a sharper image with more clearly defined images and vivid colors. No matter what I do with the nexus it never really compares....
Maybe the curved glass has something to do with it?

I can't vouch for the optimus g but I'd say this screen is pretty sharp. I had the HTC one x before hand and this phone nearly reminds me of it. I prefer the natural colors of this screen over other companies choices like Samsung.

have you tried the color profiles for franco's kernel? try the galaxy one, i'm always rocking it on my phone and the colors are great.

im just saying to try the profiles instead of messing with the settings
Tried all the profiles, they all suck compared to the optimus G screen

the optimus g has a better display (though i may be wrong, i will have to go check my old optimus g that i gave my sister), and it also has a much better speaker on the back
though the nexus 4 speaker is decent, depends on certain songs, its tinny vs the beastly optimus g speaker which is ridiculously loud, louder than my htc one

franco kernel + his recommended values + (misc gamm settings 'saturation: 7')
= GOD MODE
* stock android = doesnt make displays that impressive, flash stock on htc one x, it doesnt look anywhere near impressive as sense
but the nexus 4 has a really good display, viewing angles withstanding
Yeah try a sock android ROM on the og then compare it to your nexus

I use faux123 stock enhanced kernel and faux123 Kernel Enhancement Project.Under screen tab i chose kwerdenker_natural color preset and for brightness I use velis autobrightness.Belive me....with these settings retina display form iPhone 5 looks like crap.I bought my phone from U.K. Maybe is also the building quality difference.A year ago i owned two Sony Xperia S.One bought from Romania and the other from UK.There were big quality differences between the two phones. One of them had a problem at the screen(that one bought from Romania). The colors were washed and the brightness wasn`t the same.
This isn't totally true, I have the optimus g and did the nexus 4 conversion the colors are just different. Cuz my coworkers have the G and the whites are amazing, the nexus colors are just yellow for some reason

I had the Optimus G before I bought the Nexus 4. I bought the LG OG first because it has more memory. But I had a lot of BSOD on my OG with CM10.1 official and the camera isn't what I had expected. Now to the point, the screens or panels are not the same. If the OG is switched off the screen is totally black and you cannot see the dots which I see always on my Nexus 4 if it is switched off. If you like CyanogenMod like me than you have to have a Nexus phone. These are really working without a glitch on CM.

Keep my X or go N5?

I'm tempted by the unlocked BL and wireless charging. But I'm not sire how I will feel about loosing touch less and active notifications.
Anyone have both? And have advice?
I'm not losing touchless controls over anything no mo'.
Why would I give up setting alarm in the bed without getting up.
I've got both, and I haven't used my Moto X since I got the N5. Touchless Controls are nice, but with my job, I really can't use them much

Wireless Charging sucks. Its slow. I love how fast the Moto X charges. But seriously, the only bonus is that the Nexus is on 4.4.1 now instead of 4.4 to improve camera which is something Moto X has been dealing.

If moto wont allow me to unlock my bootloader, i will switch to N5 asap
I have both. I like the N5 but I LOVE the Moto X.

I've got both (and an iPhone 5s) and my vote is Moto X over Nexus 5, but mainly because I prefer it's form factor.

I got both and I usually use my X more than my nexus because of battery life. I don't root or anything just use as is.

Really curious on how your moto x gets better battery life. I've got a stock Moto x and it barely makes it through the day. My N5 battery easily lasts me into the wee hours
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I had both, and I sold my Nexus 5 to keep the Moto X. For me, one I couldn't deal with not having active notifications and the flip to camera gesture because I'm a big car guy and snap pics on the road a lot. Also, Verizon is by far the best coverage here. Also I found the Nexus 5 to be too big and awkward in my hand, and its the same software, and I don't find any reason to go CM anymore. Also I find the Nexus screen to look a little faded/washed vs the Moto X. I agree with the other guy that I also get better battery life from my Moto X. For me, the Nexus 5 is only better if you want CM, and prefer the bigger screen.
I currently have an S4. I have the Cyber Monday code but I'm torn between the Moto X and Nexus 5. One one hand, the Moto X brings innovation with customization and active notifications. However, i'm concerned about the smaller screen and even less of a usuable area with the on screen buttons. I love my S4's 5 inch 1080p screen.
What has me leaning towards Nexus 5 is the fact that i'm in the last few months of my Sprint contract. Where I live, the service is pretty damn good but i've been wanting to go back to T-Mobile to be on a GSM carrier and can use unlocked devices when I want. I could use the Nexus 5 on Sprint and just carry it over to T-Mo when my contract is up.
I don't have large hands and the ergonomics of the Moto X is another pro.
For me, it comes down to innovaton, customization, and an all-around solid phone vs Stock Android, fast updates, 1080p display and the ability to take it to my next carrier when i'm done with sprint. Hard to choose. My coupon expires on the 11th.

True. 4.4 killed my battery life. Moto needs to update their WiFi drivers.

Motorola is a much better manufacturer than LG. My nexus 5 had terrible battery life, a terrible speaker with terrible placement, and the design's just not that great. Sold it for my Moto X.
I use my phones regularly and most of the time use Bluetooth streaming while I'm driving in the field. For some reason the nexus 5 drains fast while I'm streaming Bluetooth.

I had the n5 and it had terrible battery life and build quality. Couldnt deal with the battery life, speaker and vibration(couldnt feel it in my pocket or hear it on my desk). However, I do miss the unlocked bootloader, larger screen and wireless charging but realized i need to be more worried about functionality when dropping $350.
I have the att x and purchased the tmobile version to unlock the bootloader. I can deal with the smaller screen and hopefully the qi receiver i purchased works.. so for me, its the moto x all the way.
How important is battery life to you? That was the major deciding factor for me.

I'm on T-Mobile and the Moto X gets signal everywhere! That was far from the case with the Nexus.
I had just over 4 hours of screen on time yesterday on my X when I plugged it in last night at midnight. I've never seen that much screen time on any phone I've ever owned. I'm running 4.4.

No disrespect, but you must have not owned many phones then. My last several phones have gotten me 5+ hours screen time so 4 hours seems pretty low to me.

Moto x future proof ?

I want to buy moto x and am wondering with although fantastic x8 processor does moto x is future proof for at least 2 years? Or should I go for nexus 5 which is more future proof? How about touchless control? One of the main factors I am buying is because of that

May i know what you mean by FUTURE PROOF?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Some people still use 3 or 4 year old devices. My S2 still works fine.
If you're a hardcore cutting edge gamer....then you'll maybe need a phone every year or less....but the moto x can do anything any other device can do now, and probably still will 3 years from now.
But ultimately its your research and decision that matters, not any of us. We all have different needs and expectations.
Motorola will probably keep the software updated until Jan/Feb 2015. After that, who knows?

I agree with @nijom, define "future proof".. The X is as "future proof" as any other android device where the carrier has the final say in the updates being pushed to the device.
Unless you get a developer edition X which can be bootloader unlocked, and you can flash custom roms to it. Although options for 3rd party roms are relatively few at the moment, and you'd lose the Moto specific features which make the X so popular.

Red Lights

Hi, after 2 months with my Moto X I saw 3 red lights, 2 at bottom and 1 at top.
I know that they are sensors but it is OK to see them when I am in a dark room?
I don't know if they were there and I didn't notice them or they started to show a few days ago

Battery not lasting at Moto G 2nd Gen! Need help!

Just a simple question : why is not lasting long the battery of moto g 2nd gen in cm12? In stock lollipop 5.0 it was pretty good, now i need to charge it twice a day cause it will drop quickly from 100% to 60%! Any suggestions or tips and tricks? Maybe i should calibrate it?
Sent from my Moto G 2014 using XDA Free mobile app
there may be applications installed that for some reason do not allow your phone go into deep sleep to save battery ...
the ROM is still under development and is not TOTALLY STABLE 100 % WITHOUT BUGS
not that this may be a problem with it , but rather with the apps that you install to be a custom rom .
Some background apps might be running. Always check and close them.
GPS always on is a common battery drain issue on Moto G. If you turn on GPS once it remain always on whether you turning itt off or not. Howewer if you turn it off and restart the phone it will turn the gps off. This solved my battery drain issue.

A change of charging block could be culprit. Some cause the phone to wakelock, due to how android mounts partitions over USB. Did you recently switch chargers?

No. No calibration. You calibrate every time you use your phone to 15% and charge back to 100%. Its just that simple. I recommend a reboot after using ANY charger that is not OEM once you've charged 100%
