I was flashing the latest iceandfire rom, did a reboot and the Moto logo came up but it never booted. Holding the power button didn't do anything so I pulled the battery. Now there's nothing. The LCD never comes on, can't get into recovery or boot loader. No charging light, nothing...
This has happened to me before and I had it sent back to Motorola. They were able to reflash the phone, I know because I got the same phone back. How they managed to flash it without it powering up is a mystery to me but I know it's possible. Has anyone managed to do this? I would send it back to Moto again but this time, it's out of warranty.
Did you charge with USB cable? I had this once where USB charge completely failed. I just had to use my car charger and that fired the phone back up.
I had this happen to me also...use a Motorola brand (no copies) wall or car charger and leave it plugged in. My MS does this when it gets really close to 0% charged...
Sent from my Milestone using XDA Premium App
I don't think the battery is dead, it was full and I was plugged in while I did the flash. The charge light flicks on and then goes out when I plug any cable in but I'll give it a shot with the moto charger when I get home.
yeah, the phone's bricked... using all factory chargers and cables, it still doesn't power up.
I give up... tried all night to get it to the boot loader. I guess I'll be selling this thing for parts and use this iphone4 I got through Fido retentions until I figure out my next phone
Before you throw it away:
Try getting another (full) battery or another Milestone (to charge it), or something like this: (I am not allowed to post a link, so google: UNIVERSAL BATTERY CHARGER, select the first video in results).... charge it, then re-insert the battery and try to power on device holding d-pad UP + pressing power button.... it should bring you to bootloader mode, then connect usb cable and use RSDLITE to flash the appropriate SBF for your device and region..... and for ROMS (SBFs) google: milestone sbf, select the first link in results.... hope it helped... cheers....
Does the "McGiver" jumpstart thing using a usb cable with the device end cut and keeping some of the wires connected to the device in the battery compartment work on Milestone? I know a friend that could "unbrick" his Defy using this method....
Do you have a link? I remember reading this somewhere as well. It's worth a shot, not like the thing can be more dead. I still don't think it's the battery tho, it was full when I performed the flash.
Nevermind.... I found it, it didn't work... lol... oh well..
Sometimes the batteries memory will glitch
Not the battery, it was full when I did the flash and I tried jumping the battery terminals with a USB cable. It was good while it lasted but I already picked up a BNIB Captivate for $300 off Craigslist.
Anyone know what a Milestone sold for parts would be worth? It's about a year old and I would say the condition is 8.5-9.0/10

Before you sell it, take out the battery, SIM card and memory card, then leave it for AT LEAST 5 days. Then try again.
I have a similar problem with my milestone, at first I thought it was dead, then after a week I tried again (just on the off chance) and was able to get into the bootloader menu and reflash it.
There is something inside the Milestone that holds charge for several days, and pulling the battery for at least 5 days seems to clear it. This has happened 3 times with mine, and each time I was able to get it started again.
This may not work for you, it depends on exactly whats wrong with yours, but its worth a try.
there is a post from a guy looking for the motherboard... u might want to see that... sorry for ur device
I was out this afternoon and left my phone at home with 37% battery left. I got home 2 hours later my phone was dead. I plugged the phone into the wall charger, no response. Usb into computer, no response. I even tried using other compatible charger, no response. I have tried removing the battery method, no response.

I had the same problem but not with the Note, it was with my S2.
In the end, it couldn't be revived and I had to get rid of it.
Best of luck, let's hope it's just hibernating.

Did you try to get in recovery mode?
Rec mode: 1e vol up + 2e home + 3e power button, keep your fingers on the buttons and wait 10 till 20 sec to get in to recovery and try to reset/wipe your phone.
Also keep your phone in the charger for a few hours
maybe some issue with the battery? did you try swapping the battery?
i think you have a bad device. This has been going on with galaxy s2 phones and even with nexus phones. Some hardware defect. My galaxy note was working fine and one day I woke up and disconnected my galaxy note from power. guess what? the note kept charging even after I disconnected the usb cord. The phone was only a month old and this defect came along. I tried cleaning the usb connector with tooth brush, even attempted to push the inside pins down towards the back. I have had success for about 5 minutes but when i restarted the phone, it came back to charging mode with battery charging animation. The phone actually discharged quickly and once turned off, can't be turned on again. I would have to connect the usb power cord to power up the phone. I have tried different battery, changed to stock rom and resetted the phone several times. No luck at all. I sent in the phone to claro phone company (dominican republic) and after several days of playing with the phone, they have decided to give me a new phone. The only reason I am getting a new phone is because I know the director in the cell division of that company; otherwise, I would be screwed.
Ok.. I think my note is possessed or something. Right after I posted this thread it started working again. Like a minute after. Removed abyssnote and all sort of launchers I have been using. Just a note to all. A backup is always a must. Just saying. Previously I had a few hangs here and there and self reboot. I think the kernel has some problem. Gonna run on stock kernel for awhile. Just turned one month my note
if lives got you down throw in the god mode
nice!
well I'm screwed, just waiting for my spare battery with external charger to arrive so I can start using my Note again. The phone won't recognize the charger.
to add insult to injury, I have no clue where my phone came from, all I kept was just the phone a week after i had it.
looks like now I have a good reason to buy a white one, and i'll save the black one for parts.
hey guys im stuck now and would like you see the community imput on this, thank you!
3 Days ago my phone froze (custom rom and kernel), i removed the battery and started the phone up again.... i was **** faced at a concert and was impatient as it was on the htc screen, i went into recover and re installed my rom (i have no idea why i didnt install my nand back up.)
The rom installed fine, than it was loading at the htc screen and after 3 min, i took out the battery (mistake on my part)
and at this point is where i really screwed my self, i did a factory reset from fastboot...
now my battery is dead and i cant access recovery, i can push it there through fastboot but when the phone reboots into recovery it dosnt have enoufe battery...
and i cant install my back up or my rom because of this!
when i plug my phone into charge, it charges for about 2 minutes than turns on... but it gets stuck at the htc logo because i didnt a fastboot reset
To get into fastboot, i plug my phone in and wait till it automatically turns on and than hold the volume button down once it vibrates. this dosnt always work and is quite a skill actually!
When i load fastboot/bootloader and the phone checks for update zip's it says battery voltage is too low!
please change a battery...
I had a similar experience only with a Rom that allowed the battery to drain completely dead before shutting down. Then when I plugged it into the charger it would charge for about 3 seconds and go off. Too dead to charge! The fix?
to buy a seperate battery charger off E-Bay that allowed me to charge the battery externally.
I got one for $8.00 and received it within a couple of days. No way arround it, you need to charge that battery!!! Gary

Thanks man i was getting worried ! im going to try going to my carrier to see if they will swap it ! lol
Hello, I've been using my htc vivid since about march last year, and I recently rooted it, flashed Kanbang and added wajee's desensed rom. Things have been going smoothly until recently, I attempted to change roms to xperiense (Also by wajee) and I'm now stuck booting up at the splash screen, I can access my boot loader, but I can NOT preform a factory reset, Please, if anyone here can help me I would seriously appreciate it.
If the recovery program is not showing then you need to clear the catch if the recovery still don't work try to reflash the recovery or even a different recovery . If that don't work relock the bl and run the stock ruu and start over , the hansoon tool kit makes this a breeze and you will be back where you where in a few minutes.
I can access the bootloader, and I forgot to mention that If I plug it in to my comp it does not seem to want to charge, it shows the light for about 5 seconds, then the capacitive buttons will vibrate if pressed, but nothing displays, I have to boot into the bootloader without it plugged in then plug it in.
Yea pull the batt and boot into hboot , then select fastboot plug the phone then it should say fastboot USB , running the ruu will fix any errors you have so you can start fresh ....just remember never pull the plug while the ruu is running .
Well, Thanks for trying to help, but the batter will NOT charge and is dead, I'm ordering another OEM battery soon, Thanks for the help but I've read and this actually appears to be the problem, again thanks you for trying to help.
No problem , if ya need anything don't hesitate to ask here someone can always help out .
Are you sure the battery is kaput? Have you tried charging it with a wall charger? HBOOT doesn't support charging BTW, and USB won't charge unless the phone is ON and in the OS (or in TWRP recovery which DOES support charging).
Pull the battery and leave it turned off, then plug in the wall charger. You should get an orange LED and presto, it's charging. See if you can power up after an hour or two. If it spends two hours on the wall charger and still isn't charging, then it's either A) your battery, or B) Your charge port. I had the charge port die on my blackberry torch. Thought it was the battery too until I borrowed one from a mate and swapped things around.

Thanks for the offer but I have a bro with the same phone who lives nearby so I'm going to see if I can borrow it tomorrow for a few minutes, if it works, my new batter is in the mail, if not, I'm going to talk to at&t and see if I can get the phone replaced.
It keeps claiming I have the wrong version (The Ruu) any chance of a link to the most up to date one?
Hi guys,
I've got a problem with my droid 4. 2 days ago, the battery went to 0% and i had nothing to plug my phone to. So after 20/30 with the phone at 0%, i plugged it to charge it. After an hour, i looked at my phone again and i saw it was stuck on the 'Motorola dual core technology' logo. I rebooted it and went to safestrap. safestrap was saying 99% of battery so i was like "meh, it's full, i can unplug it". I did so, reboot again and then it went down while loading cyanogen. I tried to replug it, go back to safestrap and reflash the rom. but the phone went off while flashing and from now on, it doesn't start anymore. So yeah, i know, this is kinda normal, no more system fail flash blablabla.
Here is the weird point. When i plug my phone in, there is first a GREEN LED with no light on the screen for a couple of minutes, and then i got stuck again on motorola dual core logo. I can acces the AP fastboot mode but it keep saying "low battery, cannot program" even after a full night plugged in. All others options goes directly to motorola dual core logo and then got stuck (even the recovery option is doing this). I've found many topics about it but i'm not very sure where is the problem coming from.
Can you guys explain more to me about this problem ? how can i fix it ? do i need to go McGyver ?
Several possible problems
1. safestrap often does not report correct battery charge
2. if battery is too low, phone can not run charging software.
3.. if software is corrupt , phone can not charge battery.
Don't use use pc to charge, if you have a 5v 1amp/1000ma wall charge or better use that.
you can use the MacGyver method, but there is a risk of frying the phone and/or battery.
You can buy and external universal charger like this , but you will need to remove battery.
If it's a corrupt software issue, you can reflash with a fastboot/factory cable TBH Factory Cable Adapter, or Fastboot Motorola Factory Cable-ebay
see if you can get back to safestrap with, with power off, hold both volume buttons, press power button, at Boot Mode Selection Menu> Scroll down with volume down button, to BP Tools, Select with Volume UP button, should boot directly to SafeStrap.
see if battery will charge.

Thanks for your reply.
Here is some more informations i might have forgot in my first message (or maybe it wasnt clear).
1) Batttery is too low, and it can't run the program to reflash a motorola ROM. This is 100% sure.
2) Software might be corrupt since it first went blackout when flashing. I need to reflash, but back to #1 i can't flash since no battery.
3) I tried to recharge it with a 5V/2A asus tablet charger, and even after a couple of hours, no ****.
4) i can remove the battery. I have already done it. No problem.
5) i can't get back to safestrap : every time i choose an option other than "AP fastboot" i got stuck on the motorola dual core boot image.

I would use a TBH adapter/fastboot cable to flash firmware, or use a universal external battery charger.

And what if i buy another battery ? like for example and extended battery from mugen power, usually those batteries come with 50% of charge, and this could be enough to flash no ?
An extended battery should have enough charge to boot to safestrap or flash firmware.

So you Flashed a xml/firmware file with red lite?
Which one? Which ap fastboot version is on phone?
It's stuck in ap fast boot? Any errors?

Well i got some more work for you sd_shadow, even if it doesnt really have nothing to do with flashing.
It appears that the connectors of my battery were completely dead. I bought a new one. I just put in it and reflashed all the stuff. Looks like it works but ... I have problems getting an image on the screen of my phone !! Is it a problem with flash, a hardware problem ? a problem with battery ?
EDIT : just found it is a bad contact. Got to deal with it i guess ... but any hints to repair it are welome !
to be more accurate, the screen doesnt show anything when the phone is closed but works perfectly fine when open ... this is driving me crazy.

You might want to read this thread on the defective screen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552978 although it does not show a solution for it (yet).
the flex cable can be replaced, and is likely problem, when it only works when the keyboard is in a specific position.

Droid 4 take apart
sd_shadow, i request your help !
So, this morning, i finally had the new flex cable and the T3 corkscrew, so i started to open up my phone to change this damn flex cable.
And if i am posting now, it is because i am stuck. After i got the back of the screen off, i started to take up my actual flex cable.
Here are my questions.
Do i need to heat the screen and take it off to take the flex cable off ?
How do i manage to change the cable where it is connected to the screen ? (Look at the 2 pictures i have uploaded).
I hope to have an answer quick. And i hope i can fix it.
Did you watch the video? http://www.repairsuniverse.com/motorola-droid-4-take-apart-repair-guide.html
it's for replacing the LCD, but shows most of the flex cable take apart.
only need to heat when replacing the LCD.
