So, I have a KFHD 7" and I was running CM11, but I was thinking for a while to try other roms (I'd only tried Kinology and CM11 so far). I tried Pacman but it seemed somewhat slow on my device and noticed that the features I wanted were actually in Paranoid Android, so this morning I moved over to this one. I flashed PA 4.4... (I'm not 100% sure what's the actual version of the PA I'm running, everything's down on my signature though to check)
So, I have a bunch of questions about it, and honestly I can't figure out where to find the answers, I can't follow the tutorials etc...
1. Where are the Hybrid Properties? They're the main reason why I switched roms but they're nowhere to be found. Am I blind? I swear I've looked through settings a bunch of times but can't find them!
2. How do I control Halo? When I had Pacman it was easy to find and activate it, but I can't even turn it on now. Again, something must be wrong cause I can't find any options about it.
3. What about PIE? When I turned Immersive on, it asked if I wanted to use PIE, but I couldn't find how to open it, where the triggers were, or any settings to customize it whatsoever.
So please, if you have any answers to my questions, you'd be great help!

I'm guessing there's a utility, or utilities, running on the Nook that does things like auto updating the firmware, seeing what books are in your library, what page you're reading, other usage stats, etc.. Has there been any work to disable these spies?
Although I mainly wanted the Nook as a tablet, I'd like to buy a few books, and use it to view a few (Legally owned) PDF files. But if B&N is going to mess with my rooting, or decide something isn't legal, or otherwise decide to remove things off my Nook (Remember the Kindle and 1984?), or spam me based on what I'm reading, I'd rather wipe all B&N software from the device, and just have an Android tablet.
BTW, if the above sounds like a complaint, it's aimed at B&N, not the developers here, for which I am most thankful for all their awesome work!
Since there hasn't been an update yet, nobody is sure if the methods used by other devices will work or not. I believe there are a few threads in the development forum that talk about possible ways of preventing it from auto updating, but they haven't been tested yet to see if they work.
Do some looking in the dev forum or do a search and I"m sure you'll find what I'm talking about. It's a standard method of preventing Android from updating, but no telling if it will work.
Edit:
Here is the thread I was referring to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860480&highlight=update
Thanks for the response. I checked the link, and was surprised Android has the auto-update functionality built in. Do you know anything about possible spy applications? Has anyone checked it's internet activity? Any strange processes?
What do you mean it hasn't updated. The day you first powered it on and connected to the internet you got an update, at least mine did.
I imagine you could use wireshark and then turn on your radio and see where the nook goes first. It could have a schedule so maybe completely restore the device and then see the first addresses or urls it goes too on it's own. Once you get that then it's just a matter of entering those urls in the host file with an unresolvable address.
I probably will use Wireshark, when I get my nook (Christmas present). I just didn't want to reinvent the wheel, and be all prepared when I finally get it. I'm surprised there isn't more interest in privacy with the nook.
Mine didn't update when I got it. It's version 1.0.0, and until you set up wifi there is no way for it to get an update. Also, there isn't a way to check for updates. The original Nook had an option to check for updates, not with the NC.
Search as I might, I've found nothing to go by that is close to being up-to-date; either on the XDA forums or elsewhere. I am attempting to figure out how best to root my NC to get the most functionality out of it. So far, I believe CM7 may be the way to go with it but I'm wanting to be sure before rerooting. Is there been any chart compiled with information about the different available roms specifically geared for the NC with the pros/cons/comparisons of the attributes specific to each rom? I'm also looking at finding any rom "Gotchas" as well. And please, before it even begins... I am not asking for opinions/favorites. I am looking for the facts and nothing beyond that. I want to push my NC to its limits but stability is still part of the end goal.
Thanks!
To my knowledge, no, there is no such comparison, primarily because of the intensity of CM7 development for the NC. There are forked variants of CM7, mainly Phiremod and MIUI (I believe the only version for the NC is the one built on CM7), but otherwise there are only far less robust options (Honeycomb preview/test builds) and outright obsolete ones (Nookie Froyo).
The other option is to root stock with ManualNooter, which some people do prefer.
All of the above are having issues with the Market right now, requiring some rather annoying temporary workarounds (setting dpi to 160 and frequently clearing Market data). Another "gotcha" if you use B&N content is that the Nook app's Search button is unresponsive in CM7, meaning you have to set up a Search softkey in order to use it.
The last stable release of CM7 is also a bit out of date, and you would probably be better served by a recent nightly (I've seen issues reported with 177, but 176 is solid), incorporating features like deep sleep, a built-in boot menu, fastboot, compatibility with the Nook Tweaks app (overclocking, voltage stepping, enhanced audio gain, and USB host) and kernel updates from B&N's last update, among other things.
Appreciate the input... I've been reading a lot lately and your observations fall inline with most everything that I'm reading. I had been using ManualNooter but I wanted to gut the B&N ROM altogether. I've loaded CM7 and it is working well. Couple market glitches (Version not supported, No Netflix showing in market, etc.) but mostly its working well so I'll keep plugging away. I had to do the LCD Density change in order to get Kindle to install but; ahhh, the joy of modding.
Again, thanks for your help!
Netflix does work just fine if you google up an apk.

I didn't say that Netflix wasn't working, simply that it won't update from the market from my early Netflix version. I am able to use the older one but it keeps crying about wanting to update upon loading. I cancel and then watch movies. I've not watched a full movie yet in this way so I can't say yet if there are any issues beyond the "won't update via market" issue.
Just recently pulled my old DS7 out of the corner and after seeing, nvflashed this really great Unofficial CM10.1 for Dell Streak 7 ROM on it. Works great, apart from the one tiny problem - it thinks it's a phone ... I already used Uninstall Master to remove some Phone features, such as: SIM Toolkit(it's called Mobile Data i think?), Messaging and Mobile Network Configurator. Was wondering how or where can I change or modify the settings related to how the Cyanogenmod acts as a Phone or a Tablet so that many apps from Play Store wouldn't default to the portrait mode.
On a sidenote - thanks to giveen and anyone involved in making this really awesome CM port to DS7 :good:

The reason why it is that way is because there are 4G models of the DS7

Understandable, but since I have a Wi-Fi only version I wanted to know if It's possible to change this in form of a setting or a few lines inside a configuration file without involving compiling. I even faintly remember stumbling upon something like this on a CM9 version I had on my old Xperia MT15i Neo ... if only I could remember or find where or how (currently strolling through the developer and CM10 related menus) - deleted my Xperia related bookmarks when I sold it.
p.s. - people mentioned some problems with the on-screen keyboard disappearing as described in one of the posts on the main CM10.1 thread, I've noticed them myself too and they tend to be application specific ... it feels like the keyboard crashes or force-closes due to not enough memory, like in lighter applications the keyboard works fine, but when trying to use the keyboard for writing for example a post in the comments section in a website will most likely result in keyboard disappearing after first input character.
So I am still trying to figure out why you started a new thread about this and what your question is.
To remove mobile data completely requires a new compile, something that cannot be done right now for a variety of reasons.
I guess I simply went too far off topic while trying to explain why I'm writing here... sorry.
So, to clear things up, the question still remains the same - what can I do to make it act more like a tablet and less like a phone on my Wi-Fi only DS7. So what I'm trying to find in the developer and CM menus is if I can more or less simply switch between some sort of "phone" and "tablet" mode so that some applications from Play store wouldn't default to portrait view mode.
And I noted that I've already uninstalled/disabled (call it how you want - I can restore them from the Unnstallers Recycle Bin if something weird starts to occur) some of the system .apks and as You already pointed out:

... so thanks for clarifying that and no need to do any special versions - it's just fine how it is now. I didn't come here to request anything to be compiled or modified for me but just to ask for info, heck, I wasn't even expecting You to be answering on this thread.

I make it my special concern to answer questions, even if it with sarcasm
I'm not sure what more you can do besides deleting the phone. Comment out in build.prop the rild stuff
I wonder if he is referring to TabUI? Which I as well am trying to relocate the flash able .zip which enabled this display difference. I have been running cm10.1 2/12 because of the sensors not working on the 2/14 build.
Sorry to piggyback the thread, but is there an answer for where the tab ui .zip is for the 2/12 build?

Hello there
I have always switched between Google Edition and Sense ROMs ever since GPE ROMs were released. I love how simple, quick and bloat-free GPE ROMs are and I also love how feature-packed and elegant Sense feels and looks. I have decided to use GPE for a while and therefore I have a couple of questions regarding it:
1) Is it possible to get the native Sense mail client on it? I don't like the "EMAIL" application that comes with the GPE. I could try alternatives on the Playstore if need be.
2) Is there a modification to enable Advanced Power Management on it? I have searched in the Themes & Mods section but all of them seem to be for Sense ROMs only. Some people claim that ones designed for Nexus would work but I wouldn't want to risk trying that in case it'll mess anything up. I do have a Nandroid Backup just in case, though.
3) What are some good Quick Settings applications? I have tried Widgetsoid on more than one occasion and it's fairly good but there are a couple of things about it that annoy me, like how you must leave a notification icon in the left side of the status bar in order for the QS to be on top of the pull down, otherwise it'll just be an empty space which looks ridiculous.
4) What is the best mod to enable battery percentage or replace the stock one with one that shows percentage?
Thank you very much guys, I really appreciate your time.
Have a great day.
EDIT:
2) I resolved number two by installing Xposed Framework and MoDaCo Toolkit and enabling Advanced Power Management under "Google Nexus (all)" menu. I tried enabling it under "HTC One" but that didn't work, probably because it's for Sense-based ROMs.
4) I resolved number four by installing battery mods from this thread.
These are good questions. Although i dont know any answers, i may be able to point you in a direction that would help. Go check out Switch for the One at Switch.MoDaCo.com
Thank you for taking the time to reply and for your suggestion. I already removed MoDaCo Switch a couple of days ago so my question is regarding Google Play Edition only. Thanks again!

I have flashed a couple of different custom roms on my Kindle Fire HD 7 (Tate), and each one has been 5.1.1. So far I have been unsuccessful in getting Multi-User to work. When I press on the profile picture in the pull-down, it only brings up my contact card. With the same version of Lollipop on my phone (Candy5 rom) this function works, and allows me to sign on a guest, so I don't think it's the version of Lollipop, but for some reason it doesn't work on the Kindle. I would like to set up multiple profiles so my wife and myself can share this tablet and have our own stuff while using it. At the moment I am running the "Slim-5.1.1.beta.0.9-UNOFFICIAL-20151010-0147" (which is really nice, btw). I have tried CM12, Candy5 roms also and get the same results. Hopefully I haven't broken any forum protocols, and thank you in advance for any enlightenment you can offer on this.
