I have flashed a couple of different custom roms on my Kindle Fire HD 7 (Tate), and each one has been 5.1.1. So far I have been unsuccessful in getting Multi-User to work. When I press on the profile picture in the pull-down, it only brings up my contact card. With the same version of Lollipop on my phone (Candy5 rom) this function works, and allows me to sign on a guest, so I don't think it's the version of Lollipop, but for some reason it doesn't work on the Kindle. I would like to set up multiple profiles so my wife and myself can share this tablet and have our own stuff while using it. At the moment I am running the "Slim-5.1.1.beta.0.9-UNOFFICIAL-20151010-0147" (which is really nice, btw). I have tried CM12, Candy5 roms also and get the same results. Hopefully I haven't broken any forum protocols, and thank you in advance for any enlightenment you can offer on this.

Just picked up a nook HD + yesterday from the father's day sale (can't pass up that price). The stock rom is sluggish and sucky.
EXCEPT, the one thing i really like about it is that every time you turn on the device it gives you the option on which account you want to use. With that I can make an account for my 5 year old, with no password, and determine what he can get to within his account. Just his books, and games.
I want to root and checking out cyanogen, but i don't want to be without that capability so he can use it easily. Do you guys know if that's possible with cyanogenmod? I'm running Paranoid Android on my Nexus, which runs off of cyanogen, and i saw that you can make another user but didn't see a quick and easy way to switch between the two.
Does Cyanogenmod out perform the stock on this device?
Thanks
J
It's very easy to setup another user for the tablet with CM 10.1. I picked up a Nook HD+ a couple days ago, my first Android device. Got CM 10.1 running yesterday and setup an account for my wife to use.
Cm 10.1 is sooooo much better than the stock ROM. Very happy with it so far!

once you set up different users though, how easy is it to switch back and forth? do you choose who you are at each lock screen like the stock rom? Have you seen anything so you can lock down a user's account to only let them do certain things?
thanks for the reply
Each user maintains their own applications, so anything installed on your account will not show up on another. This will create some redundancy if you have 5 accounts all with every version of angry birds and whatnot, but pretty much unavoidable. Just put a lock on your own account.
From the lockscreen you can choose which account you want to go into. In the upper right corner where you have access to quick settings there's an icon for your user account that you can touch that will bring you to the lockscreen to choose another account if you wish. It's super easy to switch between accounts. The only thing I haven't tested is performance when one user's used a bunch of apps, then you switch over to another account and start opening a bunch of applications. I'm new to Android and not sure how it handles memory for multiple users.
Multiple users is super easy to manage and one of the big reasons why i wanted an android tablet over an iPad. Just load up Cynogenmod already!
AWESOME, thanks for the response! I'll get on that... once i pry that damn thing away from my wife and kid.
This will be the best father's day present every, it keeps others occupied so i can get my own stuff done without interruptions!
I would like to be running the (unofficial) Carbon rom described here on my HD+ -- it is super-fast compared to CM10.2 M1 snapshot. But multiuser doesn't work for me with Carbon. If I create either another user or a restricted profile, as soon as I try to access the second user I am rewarded with an instant reboot. I was running the multiwindow version, but I don't imagine multiwindow has any effect on this. Has anyone else seen this, and can anyone suggest a direction to look for fixes?
[I really should be posting this directly in the development thread, but I'm prevented from doing so because apparently I'm a stoopid noob.]
I tried reinstalling with the non-multi-window build, and voila, multi-user works! I don't know if it was the multi-window patch or something different I did in the installation and account creation procedures. But anyway, I'm happy to be running Carbon now, which is quite zippy on the HD+!

Hi, just to be certain... can you then apply parental filters in the other profiles?
cheers

I haven't tried any parental controls yet, but I expect that should work. The Kids Place app, for instance, claims to support multiple users.
So, I have a KFHD 7" and I was running CM11, but I was thinking for a while to try other roms (I'd only tried Kinology and CM11 so far). I tried Pacman but it seemed somewhat slow on my device and noticed that the features I wanted were actually in Paranoid Android, so this morning I moved over to this one. I flashed PA 4.4... (I'm not 100% sure what's the actual version of the PA I'm running, everything's down on my signature though to check)
So, I have a bunch of questions about it, and honestly I can't figure out where to find the answers, I can't follow the tutorials etc...
1. Where are the Hybrid Properties? They're the main reason why I switched roms but they're nowhere to be found. Am I blind? I swear I've looked through settings a bunch of times but can't find them!
2. How do I control Halo? When I had Pacman it was easy to find and activate it, but I can't even turn it on now. Again, something must be wrong cause I can't find any options about it.
3. What about PIE? When I turned Immersive on, it asked if I wanted to use PIE, but I couldn't find how to open it, where the triggers were, or any settings to customize it whatsoever.
So please, if you have any answers to my questions, you'd be great help!
Hey there, I just upgraded from resurrection remix ROM to cyanogenMod 11 (4.4.4) and the first thing I missed was a multiple user's option. I searched on the net and I couldn't find it anywhere. While browsing randomly i came through these 2 articles explaining how to get that feature back. I don't take any credit for this, all credit goes to the developers and that site explaining the whole method. So I am just sharing the links with you all because I know there are many multiple users fans out here missing this feature.
Both the methods are working like a charm (but you can't receive a call in another account). I used my NOTE2 international version for this. I recommend the second method.
Method one
http://nexus5.wonderhowto.com/how-to/create-multiple-user-profiles-your-nexus-5-phone-0150637/
Method two
http://gs5.wonderhowto.com/how-to/s...galaxy-s5-or-any-other-android-phone-0157014/
I couldn't find any dedicated place for cyanogenmod, if it is there, then I request the moderators to move this post to respective place.
If you liked my thought of sharing, pressing the like button will bring a smile on my face.
This also works on CM 11, but doesn't need Xposed just root.

Do you use cm 11? 4.4.4?
'SwitchMe Multiple Accounts' On Play
'SwitchMe Multiple Accounts' works for me..root is required obviously but only downside is that the phone would be restarted on each profile change..
This thread is sooooooo old I shouldn't write this. But I have been using CM 11.x until mid 2016 on my Galaxy S2. (yay, vulnerabilites everywhere...:crying: )
You don't need to enable lock screen rotation. Just go to the settings for the power button (power menu). There you can enable things like screenshot tool, but also the item to show and select user profiles. So you can switch users from any screen by long-pressing power button.
But just to make a connection to nowadays:
Setting this up and switching users by power button just works exactly the same with my LOS 14.x and 15.1 as it worked with CM 11.x . Weird, no one came up with it back then.
So, r/w access to the system partition yes (root, twrp with filemanager/terminal/adb), but no rotation needed.
(i cannot verify these step by step anymore, but who cares :silly
I'm not to good with tech I'm getting better as I have started working with Linux computers including raspberry pi.
Is there any way to root the Amazon Kindle 5.4.0.0?. I don't care if it's temp root I just need a way to disable many of Amazon's features. I'm not interested in getting new ROMS or installing another OS.
Any one have ideas?

I've been searching like crazy the last week to try & Root this device. Everything I've seemed to find for 5th Gen version is for earlier OS (5.0.1 - 5.1.1)(I have latest OS 5.4.0.1) . I've read in multiple places that reverting back to the earlier OS have completely bricked there 5th Gen. I don't want a brick. I want a better 5th Gen.
Also I've seen different ways to Root for 8HD & 10HD. I even tried one but it wouldn't allow me to press the recover tab at the bottom. It allowed me to cancel it & that was the most of it. All for nothing. This process which I thought would be for the most part easy has become aggravating & extremely frustrating! I don't want to be like everyone else "PLEASE HELP ME", but I understand now how they've come to that conclusion!

At present there is NO root solution (or bootloader exploit) for this device running FireOS 5.3.2.1 and above. Reread that last sentence. Good, now we're done with that.
You can roll back to FireOS 5.4.0.0 and do some modest debloating if that suites your fancy. The Google Play Store can be easily installed on any current build of FireOS v5 giving access to a broad array of apps that may not be well represented in Amazon's store. You can also install an alternate launcher (eg: Nova) with some caveats which will give a different look to the home page/app drawer plus limited gesture support. Beyond that you have an.Amazon tablet running a highly customized version of Android 5.1. Get use to it.

Thanks for your feedback. I tried adding playstore once. Didn't work. I'll try again. By any chance do you have the links to roll back the O.S.? Alternate launcher? Etc... I have tried searching, but seems almost everything I find is for earlier O.S. or for 8HD, 10HD. Would instructions for those work for this one?
