For the past few CM10 nightlies (since at least ~10/15) I've noticed that notification sounds only play when the screen active. If the phone is locked and the screen is off, it will vibrate but make no noises. I've tried restoring to previous backups and have had no luck. Also have tried clearing cache and dalvik.
The phone rings properly when receiving calls regardless of screen state.
Any ideas what I can try short of completely wiping and starting over?

I don't run CM10 myself but wouldn't flashing a stable version fix your problem?
Also, could be something in your settings.
My friend has the XT1053, locked bootloader, 100% stock. He's on 5.1 of course, has had some glitches.
Anyway, what was Assist (now integrated) has an issue -in driving mode, when he receives a text, after listening, then with the prompt: "to reply, say send text" -when he does, it gets frozen on the listening screen, showing the "listening" pulsing. I cleared his dalvik cache and it worked again, but just for a day.
Does anyone know how to clear data for "assist" now, as it's not a separate app?
At least hoping maybe that would fix the issue, he's reluctant to clear the data for the entire phone. Was hoping clearing the dalvik cache would have solved it. Wondering if anyone else has had that issue -seems unfortunately a number of bugs with 5.1 on our phone
Thanks much in advance!
Assist now comes under Moto app

Still on Kitkat on my phone, I'll have to look on his phone in apps for the Moto app and try that, hopefully that works.
Thank you
I recently bought Note 5 SM-N920C 32GB. I faced some hang/freeze in random behavior.
Basically, the screen freezes for few seconds.. I try to push on any icon, try to swipe ... nothing works for few seconds and then it becomes responsive again and does what I was trying to do quickly in sequence.
My SW version is as attached.
I did wipe cache, and factory reset.. re-installed the apps again.... the problem happened again after one day.
I have wiped the cache again but with no factory reset and still monitoring the behavior.
did anyone face this problem? do you have fix recommendations?
Thanks,
Happened to me on1st day of My Note 5.Never happened again.Make sure you have not disabled any necessary app.I also froze some apps that day,Might be the reason for this.
Hi, I updates my note 9 to android 9. After update when I call to people screen is flashing. When somebody pick up the phone flashing is disappearing and everything goes back to normal. Does anyone else have the some issue? I did not have this on Android oreo, after update to android 9 this problem show up. Have a look on this video >>> https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r0hC0d81l1FAXiHh9E7dRsbXr7iBDZ9J/view?usp=drivesdk
Try wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode. If that doesn't work then perform a Hard Factory Reset.
Yes, exactly the same happens when I call. I think it is by design.
I worry that maybe something will happen to the screen because of this
I worry more about my eyes. On positive note at least I know when I butt dial someone to disconnect after few rings/rapid colour changes
I'm surprise no one mentioned this issue before. I'm sure there is a lot of people having the some problem

Have you checked in accessibility ? As there might be a setting to turn the flashing off? I would check on my Note 9 but I’m back on Oreo 8.1 as I didn’t like ONE UI PIE 9 Update!!
I have/had the same issue. But it was only randomly appearing... today it did not occur, but I got a new OTA update yesterday (dbt). Also I had in accessibility settings turned on the setting to remove animations which is now turned off. I also wiped cache after OTA. And I have animations turned off in developer settings, but this is like that since I have the phone. So if I don't see the issue again it might be due to Samsung addressing it in the update or the accessibility setting switched off or wiping cache. if I see it again I will report.

Glad it helped. It is always good practice to wipe the Cache Partition of your device after performing a OS update. As this ensures that no software conflicts will occur when you use your device.
A factory reset, wiping cache, etc, none of those helped the flashing call screen for me.
When I went into Developers options and set all the animation scales to .5 instead of off, that fixed the flashing call screen stuff.
I prefer animations off but I'll take this trade off till they fix it.
The animations bug has always existed on most android devices. setting to .5 resolves all these. wiping the cache i've found doesn't make a huge difference overall, since it will be rebuilt during usage, and improve performance over time.
I think
It is the d3v thing, but the main issue is the notifications, they don't clear and it's really irritating. Also I always do wipe cache partition after updates. Don't want to factory reset as I'm not rooted so it would. Mess. Up a lot of. Things
Hi,
I can confirm that removing the animations had fixed the problem on my phone.
Settings => Accessibility => Visibility enhancements => Remove animations
NOTE: In Developer options all 3 animations (scale) settings are turned off as well.

I also had all of those animations turned off before I did wipe partition cache
This worked for me too.

This is the right solution for this issue.
Thank you! :good:
I tried OLEDsaver from the app store but it creates artifacts and banding on images and messes with the contrast.
Wiping the cache partition stopped it happening for 1 day but then it came back.
I've now set animations to .5 to see how it goes.
Device is a Galaxy S9.
Hi guys.
So after update, most of my incoming call doesnt show notification, only ringing and nothing on the screen. Means cant answer or decline the call. Happen 70% of the time.
Found the issue was Phone App by Google but cant find any solution atm. Before update it was Aokay with MIUI dialer.
Tried so far.
- Reset app data & cache
- Enable all notification
- Uninstall update for Phone App
- Factory reset phone
Been googling and found nothing so far. Not sure if it only happen me.
Thanks!
I found the culprit.
If you ever encounter this, uninstall update for your Phone app. Reset all data & disable auto update for Phone app. Reboot. Voila!
