Note 5 SM-N920C hangs/freezes randomely - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought Note 5 SM-N920C 32GB. I faced some hang/freeze in random behavior.
Basically, the screen freezes for few seconds.. I try to push on any icon, try to swipe ... nothing works for few seconds and then it becomes responsive again and does what I was trying to do quickly in sequence.
My SW version is as attached.
I did wipe cache, and factory reset.. re-installed the apps again.... the problem happened again after one day.
I have wiped the cache again but with no factory reset and still monitoring the behavior.
did anyone face this problem? do you have fix recommendations?
Thanks,

Happened to me on1st day of My Note 5.Never happened again.Make sure you have not disabled any necessary app.I also froze some apps that day,Might be the reason for this.

[Q] Galaxy Note not waking up?

I can't put my finger on this issue I've been having with my Note.
Don't get me wrong, this device is a godsend!
The problem I've been having is that sometimes when I take my Note out of my pocket and try to press the unlock or menu button it doesn't show anything on the screen. I've read about people having issues with delay before it pops up, but it doesn't pop up even after 10 seconds or a minute, it feels like the device 'hangs' or doesn't want to wake up. The only way I can turn the phone on again is by pressing the unlock button for like 10 seconds and the phone reboots.
I thought it was a problem with Green Power, I thought it maybe had issues turning off the wifi or data when the screen was locked and that the service would cause the OS to crash or 'hang'. When I look at my battery history after the reboot it shows that I lost a significant amount of battery (5-15%, depending on how long it took for me to 'discover' the crash) and there's a 'jump' in the graph.
Things I've tried:
Stock rom - problem persists
Different kernels - tried all the kernels available in the market including stock, problem persists
Add a bit of paper between back-cover and battery (to make sure it doesn't lose contact)
Checked if there was dust between battery connections
Tried different sim card
Tried disabling wifi and data all day (mysteriously persists)
DIfferent governors (ondemand and interactive) (the phone reverts to default governor after the forced reboot, normal? i have my phone set to interactive on boot, but somehow it skips that after the forced reboot)
I've attached a picture of the battery graph. According to the stats there's a 25 minute gap where the phone was 'stuck' and you can see that the screen was on and active for that duration.
There are NO funny apps running in the background, this is is a clean install with some standard Samsung apps frozen.
tl;dr version: phone randomly won't wake up; battery loss after forced reboot;
I might have found the issue myself. Now when I come to think of it, I think it always occurs after I've been in my car for like a 30 min drive... Maybe the phone is having trouble switching networks? Anyone know what might be causing this?
Or better yet, how can I research this issue? Can I enable some logging somewhere to track this?
I had the note for about 10 days and today, about 1 hour ago it happened to me for the first time. I tried the home button to wake the screen but nothing, tried the power , nothing and holding the power but nothing happened. I had to pull the battery.
I had this problem in the beginning, but no more.
It's one of two things, in my case. Restoring apps (with data) from Titaium backup, or SetCPU or both. Do a factory reset, reinstall apps without data. If using setCPU, disable it for a while to see if it happens again. It's been over a week and the problem is gone.

I was using System Tuner instead of SetCPU to freeze apps and change governor, maybe I've just been using the wrong app? I deleted it just in case. Will see if the problem persists, thanks!
The nasty thing about it is that it seems to happen randomly (but it most likely doesn't) and is pretty rare (happens once every 3 days).
Still, I don't like the fact of not being available for X amount of time, even if it's 30 minutes.
I'm on stock room and unrooted. Like I said first time it's happened.
i've had the GNote since 4 days now , and yesterday same thing happened as the device was in my pocket and i couldnt wake it up at all , battery pull solved it.
im on stock , non rooted
I can't believe that we are the only ones with this issue. Anyone else? OR better yet, how did you resolve it?
Dont know if this is the same issue as the streak had, but with the streak if you kept it your pocket with the screen facing your body this would sometimes happen. Flipping it so that it that the screen doesnt face your body in your pocket solved this issue.

Thanks for your reply. I did some research, and apparently it had to do with static being built up in the screen from wearing it towards your body in your pocket.
This issue was that you couldn't swipe the lockscreen cause the touch screen wouldn't respond. The problem we are having is that the screen won't even turn on and that the system locks up.
Same issue here with my 2 days old Galaxy Note, that's how I found this forum. In my case it went from not waking up occasionally to every time WIFI was ON (I did some experimenting with settings to see which one could be the one causing the problem). But then...occasionally it would not wake up even with WIFI OFF: very annoying. And this is my first Android, so I didn't have any custom anything, pretty much same as out of the box when I got it The only solution was to reset the handset. And definitely has nothing to do with having it in my pocket as I don't carry it in my pocket. Rang Samsung, they told me it was faulty, I returned it. Now I'm concern the next one is going to have screen issues? As so many people complain in this forum? we'll see.
My issues have been resolved after flashing AbyssNote 1.4 and when I stopped using System Tuner. I've started using Voltage Control instead and now I'm not even having problem @ 100Mhz undervolted 50mV from stock.
Same problem with my wife's Gnote, totally stock, just a small handful of apps installed. Happened twice, about a week apart.
She does a lot of travelling, maybe you're right about that. But it happens after she gets home when it's still OK.
Had the same same issue twice in two days and had to do a battery pull, just did a master reset and re -installed the applications manually, so far so go.
YOu guys think its a hardware or a software issue?
Hmm.. Happened to me too about three times in the last two weeks. I am on stock rom but rooted, and running Green Power. Hopefully samsung will fix it in the next updates. Seems like a software bug to me. Maybe not enough juice when in deep sleep?

Hello
its the problem of your kernel. try Abyys 1.4 and use XDA Superpower to adjust the CPU-Frequency automatically

It's very well possible that the stock kernel has faulty settings for the CPU. Haven't had the problem again with AbyssNote 1.4 and Voltage Control (even with custom cpu frequencies)
I just got my note today.
Battery in, turnt it on a few mins playing around.... the problem started
and hasnt since stopped...

at this point we're just guessing, there haven't been any official confirmations of the problem as far as i know.
But if it's so accute that it keeps happening all the time you must have a faulty device.. call samsung ?

Nexus 6 Shuts Down Randomly

Hi,
Two days back,I bought a used Nexus 6 and since then am having some serious issues.(Mainly 2 serious issues ( 1 partially solved i guess)
ISSUE No.1 - Phone shuts down randomly ( Partially solved)
I used it for an hour in the condition I received and afterwards I decided to do a factory reset to start from scratch.
After the factory reset, the phone started behaving weird. It would shut down at random and would not switch on..
When i powered on the device,it would show "Optimizing apps xx of xx" and again would shut down. The number of apps were never the same.
I tried wipe cache and factory reset from bootloader but with no effect.
An then when I tried after 1 hour, amazingly the phone came to life and instantly I disabled Gmail app(had a hunch gmail was causing the issue as before the shutdown the gmail notifications were appearing and disappearing on the notification bar)and updated Android System Webview.
I continued use for 1 day without any issues and then I decided to enable Gmail again:It crashed again. This time I disabled both Gmail and Android System Webview.
This issue has not reappeared ( But no Gmail on a google Phone..How ironic>>)
ISSUE NO.2 - Phone shuts down when charger is unplugged during charging irrespective of the battery level. This issue still persists and i have not found a solution yet.
The phne has a warranty but I do have a hunch its a software bug.Would appreciate any experts help.PLEASE dont tell me this has a hardware problem..sigh..

Personally, since it is under warranty, and this is not normal device behavior, I'd RMA it ASAP.

If an RMA is not an option I'd flash a stock image. That would truly be starting from scratch as opposed to just doing a factory reset.
Id flash stock and if not sounds like bad battery

App opening lag when clicking on notification

Anyone experience lag in opening an app when a notification comes through?
When I click on notification for some apps, it'll take anywhere between 3-10min to open. Only happens on some apps. Viber and smartthings are 2 that I have noticed this issue on.
I've noticed some slight lag in apps opening from their notification, but that's measured in seconds, not minutes.

I've noticed a lag of about 45 seconds once or twice. Usually a reboot will resolve it but it could be an errant app or especially if it's trying to retrieve something from the web before showing the window and you have no connection temporarily (poor programming practice) etc...

Only with Secure Folder and only after updating apps in that folder.
Hmm... Maybe an uninstall and reinstall of those apps.. Will try it out once I have a chance to backup.. Must be the way I use my phone.. As same issue was happening on previous phone I was on..
Exactly same failure here. But not minutes, just a lot of seconds. I can click on the notification and then wait, and wait, and wait, open other apps, navigate, and then, suddenly, the app of the notification opens. Very annoying. Lots of apps having this issue.
Reboot the movile solve the issue, but it returns few hours later.
I have never formatted the movile yet, and updated from nougat to oreo. If anyone give us a solution, I think I will format the mobile.
I see there is few people answering this thread, maybe few people having this issue...
never happens at all to me
I have never had this issue, all apps open quicly when clicking their notification
Same here. Stock, updated from Nougat to Oreo.
On my device only notifications from the Play Store cause lag.
It is not that often, therefore I keep calm
I am also having this exact same issue on my Note 9 with 8GB of ram, running Pie O.S. and it is driving me crazy! Someone PLEASE help us figure this one out!
I have wiped phone cache in recovery, even the cache for certain apps, rebooted the phone and in some cases even cleared app data and STILL have this problem.
Thanks.

Factory reset might solve all these.
Thanks for the suggestion, however I always save that option as an absolute last resort.
Hopefully someone has experienced this and has a solution short of a FDR.
Anyone?...
I encountered issues like that more than once. Narrowed it down to /data that causes the issue to happen, as OS reinstall without userdata wipe changed absolutely nothing. OS version doesn't matter. 5.1.1 and 6.0.1 behaved the same.
I've also found that when the said thing happens, you can probably notice another things happening, such as the prompt (when you open terminal emulator app) appears after seconds or sometimes even minutes.
Call recording apps start recording at least few seconds into the call, so short calls in some cases won't be registered at all.
Banking apps will notify the user about ie. incoming transfers with a slight delay.
It's like events - external and internal - get stuck somehow. They can also pile up if you, for example, start another instance in app - you click a button a few times and after some time you'll get those few instances starting instantaneously and simultaneously, just as if somebody lifted leg from a brake pedal. It doesn't have much sense - every single one should be delayed by approx. the same amount of time, but they clearly are not.
Anyway, I'd be very happy if we could figure out what causes that, because doing a complete wipe, even with help of Titanium Backup regarding the restore (did that once, worked perfectly), is not something I'm looking forward to.
I continue to have this issue on my note 9..and now on my note10 plus the issue has returned after over a month of use.. Sigh.. I've completely turned off battery optimisation but no luck..

P10 Finally Updated to 8.0 - Now almost unusable... help

Hopefully someone can help...
I finally received my OTA update to Oreo last week... all was good for a few days, then over the weekend it has been having constant issues with locking up, apps not responding and streaming issues. Top ones I can think of are:
Incoming calls do not display on lock screen and screen just goes black when I try to open
Facebook Messenger sometimes locking up the whole phone
When streaming a video file to Chromecast with AllCast, it keeps pausing until I activate the screen again
I wondered if it was to do with a compatibility issue with SwiftKey, so I switched back to Gboard, which seemed ok for a bit then it went on the fritz too! I've tried taking the SD card out and restarting, I've tried formatting the cache partition from the boot menu... still no joy.
Anyone got any idea what the issue could be and how to remedy?
After every os update its recommend to do factory reset.
Try factory reset and everything will be fine.

Wifi constantly disconnecting?

Both my and my girlfriends Samsung Galaxy Note 9 keep disconnecting from WiFi. I get "page cannot be displayed" while using Chrome and apps won't connect until I turn the phone's WiFi off and back on again. That fixes it everytime but it's really annoying and continues to happen at random. The Amazon app has the worst issue with this.
I've tried a factory reset on my phone but did not help. What could be causing this issue and how can I fix it?

Reset your router! Have you tried that ? Also change your Wi-Fi channel (2.4 or 5 GHz) That should fix it!
Try wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode.

Hello, similar failure here. When playing Call of Duty appears suddenly a lot of ping. From usually 50ms it increases to more than 300ms (at least it is what game says). Then the game starts to freeze. It happens in wifi. I think not in 4G. This issue appears during 1 minute aprox. It repeates every 10 minutes or 20. In web browsing it means freeze of the web or do not load. Reboot phone does not help to clean the issue. It is always there. I will start to clear cache and other trials...
Try reinstalling the OS using Odin. If that doesn't help take it to a Service Center and let them take a look at it.
