Was anyone successful in s-off, for this device? I'm running 4.4.3
Thanks in advance!

I used Rumrunner last year to get s-off. It took a few attempts though. I have heard that it doesn't work for some. I used Firewater to s-off my one x.

I heard that the chip also plays a role in this? If so, how do i find out my chip (emmc). Also you used rumrunner on 4.4.3?

No. It 4.4.2 at the time.

I'm pretty sure runrunner won't work on such a new firmware version. Firewater might work or else pay the $25 for sunshine

they are both developed by the same group so yeah you could say they abandoned the free firewater in favor of the paid Sunshine. Firewater still works for 90% of the M7 out their if you try hard enough

How does it actually work when you say "hard-enough". It's a gamble isn't it? and I guess it'll be even harder for me as i'm on 4.4.3

What makes SunShine the start of a new era?
Simply put, it isn't free. SunShine is the cumulation of years of research, hundreds of hours of development, the sacrifice of many devices (R.I.P. bricked test phones), and the blood, sweat and tears of multiple developers. Just like how a mechanic charges money for his time souping up your car, the only feasible way to devote the time and energy to this is to charge for it. The income from SunShine allows us to recoup the time lost from other projects, to invest more time into research and development of new solutions, purchase new test hardware, and to allow us to enjoy a few bottles of wine at the end of a hard week.
Well crud, how much are you asking for?
The initial price of SunShine is set at $25.00usd per device, payable via paypal or credit-card from within the application itself. Our hopes are that SunShine is successful enough to allow us to find or purchase vulnerabilities, and to develop future solutions at lower prices. If you want to see additional payment options become available, let us know in support!
Are you crazy $25?!?
You may be right. We may be crazy. Considering our costs to develop SunShine, we feel we are justified. Most of our customers purchased heavily subsidized devices, instead of opting for a more developer friendly product. SunShine solves that situation, at a much lower cost than purchasing a developer device.

not a gamble ..at most it just fails
most (or many) have had luck using a stock rom (ARHD / Stock rooted ..etc ) along with bulletproof kernel and firewater

We have been blessed for a long time with these guys, doing work for free all so we could unlock and s off. For free!
According to beaups the chip doesn't matter I believe
As for what works - people have reported success with nightly builds of CM11 with firewater and arhd with bulletproof kernel
Personally I paid for s off using sunshine. I didn't get the "Whelp! This sucks!" message but was happy to pay the $25 for what I needed. True, it's a gamble as to what combo of Rom/kernel but if its not working just bite the bullet and pay up

Do you think that 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 would make a difference?
Also if I unlock the bootloader, can't i downgrade and then use firewater or rumruner? or you need s-off for downgrade?

As clsA stated it's just hit and miss normally requires flashing different roms and kernels.
I found older stock roms to be more successful, try find a guru reset zip with 4.3 Rom that matches your cid and mid, also the older stock kernels work with firewater so worth trying before flashing bulletproof
You can downgrade your Rom but to downgrade your hboot requires s-off

The simple reason is that on newer software versions it was patched so firewater won't work. As long as you don't get the whelp this sucks message then you have a chance. And all the people who keep using emmc chip version to tell if it will work are wasting their time. That has nothing to do with it. What it needs to s off is one of life's little mysteries

[Q] Pink Camera Issue, Need to restore to stock

So I have the pink camera issue. I noticed it today when trying to take a video of the meteor shower happening. I am currently on viper ROM and my phone is unlocked, tampered and s-on. My problem is I am with Virgin Mobile(Canada) and I cannot seem to find a stock ROM so I can send this phone in for warranty.
Once I get back to the stock ROM how can I remove the Tampered and Unlocked messages?
Thanks for any help in advance!

Are you sure you need to restore the phone to stock? Since they sold you a phone with a hardware defect, they may have a legal responsibility they can't ignore. In most civilized countries, a seller has to repair or replace a defective product.

Surely it is "in jeopardy". But my rooted and S-Off phone was repaired under warranty due to the same camera issue. I'm not in your country, but it's probably worth a little googling to find out. Maybe even call them to ask, but don't give them your name/IMEI/serial (tell them your friend is borrowing the phone, but before you get it back, you need to know whether the rooted unit's defective camera component it can be fixed under warranty).

Let me clarify. Based on my personal experience (not internet hearsay), some warranty repair centers do not care about a phone being tampered/s-off/unlocked. They noticed (and mentioned it to me over the phone), but repaired it anyway, free of charge. Now, can you clarify why you think that's not true?

Well, they rejected my phone. The first thing they did was check the bootloader. They said that i would have to pay for the repair because the bootloader was unlocked. I think HTC's policies differ in different countries.

The phone is with Virgin Mobile, which I believe is the same company as Bell, I had bell's self serve app on my phone when I first got it. I also bout an old iPhone on a Bell network and it worked fine with a Virgin Sim card.

Ok, cool. Now here's the guide to going to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082
The 1st post is important, it gives you the list of downloads and prerequisites. READ IT A FEW TIMES VERY CAREFULLY
Then, move to post 5. The method you will be using to return to stock is the CWM NANDROID method.
Now, the RUU you will be using is this:

[Q] ARHD 71 -> 31.6, Will I brick?

Hey all,
Postwise, I'm a noob, but I like to think that I know what I'm doing... most of the time.
Anyways, I recently found myself in a foreign country, and in desperate need to remove my carrier SIM lock. Tried Running firewater/rumrunner on my stock HTC Rom, no dice. Flashed ElementalX kernel, got a little farther, still no dice. Flashed ARHD 71 ROM, and I get as far as I ever have on rumrunner, but still no S-off.
After some searching, I found that rumrunner seems to work best with ARHD 3x.xx, and lots have had problems with the kitkat roms. I'm in the process of downloading 31.6 ATM, but I thought I'd ask: Can I flash 31.6 onto my phone, even though I already have 71.1 on there? Will It brick my phone?
Best,
amk

Sweet, thanks!
So, once 31.6 is done downloading, I should:
Wipe system data, cache, dalvik
Flash 31.6
Rumrunner s-off
flash 71.1
change CID to carrier unlock
Flash ElementalX Kernel
yes? Slight observation I made now that I'm on 71.1, I cannot flash ElementalX kernel, it reboots at 10% from both CWM and TWRP. If this persists after the above steps, Should I do nandroid backup of system and restore?
I think you need to look at what firmware version you have, then find the correct S-OFF method. Just downgrading the ROM will not change the firmware.

changing CID will not sim-unlock your phone.
only a sim unlock code will do and to use it you must be stock or as close as possible to stock (with rom version matching your fw version)
Flashed 31.6, can't even get s-off. Tried firewater/rumrunner.
So even if I do achieve s-off, i can't do sieempi's universal unlock for s-offed HTC devices?

OK, so I finally found a website that let me pay for my unlock code by buying some business cards on vistaprint, instead of using PayPal. Got my Unlock code. I think.
Now, can I insert a foreign SIM and try the Unlock code, on ARHD 71.1/31.6? Or I definitely need to flash some sort of stock ROM and then try? If I enter the code on ARHD will it disable the code?

Haha Tru, seems to have worked. Flashed 71.1, then inserted my foreign SIM and input the unlock code. Everything seems to be working smoothly.
I guess now its just a matter of time before some sort of s-off exploit shows up for my phone. In the meantime, however, I think I'll be able to do everything I want to with Root/custom recovery. Firmware is up to date for now.

[SOLVED] [Q] Struggling to return to stock on T-Mobile UK / Orange / EE HTC One

Hi Folks,
Have seen a few other threads where people are having issues with returning to stock, but not sure whether my particular hurdle has come up on there so thought I'd put in a new thread to get some help.
My HTC One was on the Carrier 4.4.3 update, however I wanted to get S-OFF and put it on a generic WWE edition so if/when 5.0 Lollipop comes out, i wouldn't have to wait forever for EE to get it sorted out.
I followed multiple guides online to try and S-OFF but to no avail, I think one of the last OTA's has patched my OS so cannot use rumrunner / firewater or sunshine.
I want to return to stock but am having huge issues finding an appropriate recovery for it. So far i can use one of the ORANG001 Nandroid files to get me back to 2.24.61.1, and the OTA starts to download to start upgrading me. But no matter what stock HTC recovery I flash, the phone gets stuck in a bootloop after it applies the update.
For now I've resorted to using MaximusHD 44.0 with TWRP recovery to get my phone up and running again. but would prefer to return to stock as I'm having issues with certain finance apps that I know do not work at all on rooted apps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :fingers-crossed:

The reason you are having touble with the nandroid and the OTA is your nandoid is a 2.xx version and your firmware version is 6.xx. I could not find a RUU, Guru Reset or nandroid for your version. Hopefully someone has a stock 6.16.61.1 nandroid they can post for you.
@Danny201281 Could you give a hand with this situation.

Hi @nkk71, I just kept getting a 'Bad Kernel' message no matter which ROM/Kernel combination I tried.
Reverted to the stock Nandroid mentioned in my OP, didn't work
Tried MaximusHD (think you recommended that when we spoke on the IRC on Saturday), Still didn't work
Tried multiple different kernels recommended in forums, preyed, still didn't work
Gave up, decided to go back to stock .... started looking like this ->:silly:

The majority of items at that site are for building kernels. So, more than likely there are no stock recovery there for your phone.

wait, let me understand you fully: you flashed ROMs and then a custom kernel??
you should just flash stock ROM (includes stock kernel), such as the ones found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759000
(unselect stock recovery, unselect radio, unselect root)
or MaximusHD is also known to work
BUT you should not be flashing any custom kernels!! (bulletproof, elementalX, etc) those will break sunshine's ability to work.

the "bad kernel" shouldn't be one of those errors, even if your device is not compatible, have you read my previous post about not using a custom kernel?

Hi Folks,
Have seen a few other threads where people are having issues with returning to stock, but not sure whether my particular hurdle has come up on there so thought I'd put in a new thread to get some help.

Well this is embarrassing!!
@majmoz @nkk71 @jcase, I just downloaded Sunshine so i could get a screen shot for jcase ... and the darn thing worked!!!
I literally stayed up all night on Friday till the birds were chirping outside and couldn't get it working and then spent most of the weekend trying to get back to stock, in the end having to make do with the latest version of MaximusHD.
The only thing that has been different for me is that I have run SunShine on the newest version of MaximusHD (4.4.3) rather than the older 4.2.2 version.
I feel like a right idiot right now, I'm really sorry about this guys!.

[Q] purple tint changing.

I suffer purple tint on video HDR Mode. Haven't camera all mode, video normal mode. Only purple tint occurs on video hdr mode. So I planned to change the terrible camera module. Is it cost to change the module??? I think the htc must change free of charge because they made wrong module.
And If I send to htc customer center, Will not broken my m7??? I'm worring.!!! The m7 is known too difficult to fix!! They should break my M7 to fix. My m7 is perfect clean no scratch. I heard htc center is ****.!
If htc change the module, Will they change my m7 to new body?? M7 too is difficult to fix so they break m7's side line(plastic). So I think they must change my all m7's body(speaker grill, back plate, except screen) If Fixing is harmful to my all m7's body, I won't change the module.

I sent mine to HTC for purple camera tint repair. I must say I thought the service was excellent.
I was only without my phone for 5 days, they did not replace any external part like screen or body casings. I meticulously examined the device before and after for any signs of damage from the procedure. And I can tell you there are none. I honestly couldn't tell that anything had been done to the phone apart from the purple tint was gone.
It is definitely worth getting it fixed as it will only get worse overtime. If your worried about the device being damaged during the procedure take plenty of pictures from all angles before you send it. But I don't think it's necessary. In my experience the HTC Service center was excellent. :good:

What I worry my device area is side line.(attached file).
To fix it, the m7 should lift the screen, main board. This procedure damage the device's sideline(plastic). I'm worry this.!!! If they did changing the camera module and repack my m7(damaged sideline), m7 isnt pretty anymore because of damaged sideline.
And I want to ask you.Is the htc change the m7's sideline(because they lift the mainboard so damaged sideline plastic) after Fixing procedure????
I want to come back my m7 no damage.
And change the module is free of charge?? I heard the warranty is 2years. And I bought 2013.12 and was made 2013.10.
Please reply.!! Thank u for ur replying me.
Ps. Sorry I have a question. Will htc reuse my device part(damaged sideline)??
And If they damage my m7's sideline or other parts, Will they change the new part like what I sent perfect m7's body???
You're worth it
Hi Danny.
I sent mine back to my phone service carrier last week and they replaced the phone with a new/like new phone.
Turnaround was exceptional. Went on Tuesday, Arrived Wednesday morning, service engineer looked at for 2 hours, new phone shipped 2 hours later and back in my hands 36 hours later on Saturday morning!
Camera is brill now and no worries with earphone mic anymore.
(recognition when earphone plug inserted - sometimes had to fiddle with plug to get it working - and intermittent scratchy FM radio)
At no cost.
Don't worry, just do it.

If they damage my phone parts to fix, will they change the new part not my original part(damaged by htc to fix). I'm worrying that. And No cost to change module?? Just free??

I bought in 2013.12 and manufactured in 2013.10. Will take for free??
My phone carrier offers a 2-yr warranty for the life of my contract.
Standard warranty is for a year..
You need to check your purchase details for your warranty. Your warranty will be in sale agreement.
My phone was 2 times at repair.
I sent it because of this purple tint problem.
It came back with a new camera but with a lot of scratches, damaged parts and big gaps between body and display.
I sent it back to repair and then they replaced everything on my phone. Body, display, frames, speakers...
Now it looks like a new phone.
But I was really disappointed after I received my phone the first time :/

Mine was also repaired free under warranty although I think HTC fix purple camera free anyway since they confirmed it's a manufacturing defect but you should check that with repair center. Don't take my word for it.
Hboot 1.57 can be s-off with firewater I've done it twice. If you get an error that says
********** whelp, this sucks, firewater can not work on your device **********
********** no amount of reflashing, retrying, or ruuing will fix... **********

Then you know Firewater will not work, otherwise you should keep trying. Unfortunately there is no exact science to getting s-off with firewater. Bulletproof Kernel works well with firewater to get past the Anti Firewater Patch. But for me Stock Jelly bean Rom with Stock Kernel worked best.

[Q] Error after Lollipop update

Hoping someone here might be able to help as nothing on the HTC website did.
My phone updated yesterday to Lollipop 5.0 (through EE in the UK)...well it it had a go, but failed. I'm left with just an exclamation mark of helpfulness. I've tried all of the basic recovery options but it just restarts a few times and goes back to said exclamation mark.
The error is..
DEVICE_CW_Install: Can't mount /cwprop
Then stuff about failing to mount the SD card (that it doesn't have).
Are there any tools that might help me sort this out? I don't particularly want to install something none standard on it but if that's all I can do to get it working, it would be ok.

however if it is totally stock and the bootloader is locked, then id suggest you send it back under warranty.
Thanks for replying and trying to help. It's out of warranty this is just a last ditch attempt before getting a new one really. I have zero knowledge in this area but have installed the sdk and run that command...

Is it possible to unlock it, is there anything I can do with it, or is it a paper weight now?

If it's still under warranty, better send it back to service center since it is an OTA failure, not your fault.

I would do but as I say, it's out of warranty so just making the best of it.
I'm downloading this at the moment RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_HTC_Europe_4.19.401.9_R_Radio_4A.23.3263.28_10.38r.1157.04L_release_353069_signed_2-1.exe
No idea if that's a good idea but I can't be any worse off than I am at the moment.

If that RUU fails, the best thing to do is to unlock your bootloader, you can find the unlocking instructions here search for it. Then install custom recovery, and then install custom rom.
Just post the results of your RUU setup.

The RUU update got to 1/5 checking header then crashed with "htc_fastboot.exe has stopped working." Then Error 171: USB connection error. Not sure if their is a problem with a driver or something.

171 is a USB error, means therres a problem with your drivers, sorry been a bit busy today, car problems, but that RUU is wrong for your phone anyway, that's a 401 RUU (4.19.401.2), you need a 61 RUU if one exists, you will need an RUU labelled as 6.16.61.8 or higher

you will have problems with Lollipop based roms, so use this one which matches your firmware: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95897840722644627
your best bet if you want it full stock is to get s-off using sunshine once you get a rom on it and convert it to a 401 WWE phone, which gets one of the fastest updates, sunshine however will cost you $25 via paypal.
I'm not familiar with M7 software numbers but, yes maximusHD custom roms are good to begin with.

Thanks,I will probably have a go at putting different rom's on at some point and was wondering what people thought the best option is for the M7.
I managed to get sorted using Guru_Reset_M7_2.24.401.8.zip. I had some problems uploading it to begin with, I think the usb issue stopped the ruu and abd working but not fastboot. I have a working phone now, which seems like a bonus after thinking the phone was maybe a goner. It's been a massive learning curve having known absolutely nothing about any of this stuff on Monday, I know how to put different rom's on now which is handy to know. The phone is still unlocked at the moment, I don't know what the cons of that are. Would this rom maybe update if I locked it again?

no, don't try and update either, you'll stand a high chance of seriously bricking your phone, it will try and install 401 firmware which isn't for your phone, hence 2.24.401.8 like I said before, your firmware is 61. orange / EE.
the numbers work like this, 2.24.401.8 ( the 2 is android version) the 24 is part of the build number, the 401 is carrier / region (401 is WWE world wide English) yours is 61 orange / EE and you can only use these files same or above the one your currently on as your phone is s-on, and the last number 8 is build number, or alternatively you can flash any custom rom you like upto KitKat as your firmware on your phone is currently 6.xx.61.x
you are stuck with custom rom's only up to KitKat, the one I linked earlier is Maximus HD 50.0 which is as close to stock Kitkat as you will get for now, but still a custom rom. Lollipop rom's will play up as your on firmware 6xxxxxxx unless you s-off and convert your phone or unless you can get hold of the 7.xx.61.x firmware and manually upgrade your firmware, you need to have, or find someone who has the 7.xx.61.x OTA and grab the firmware.zip out of it and flash that in fastbootRUU mode.
I think I've been pretty lucky to get the thing up and running really could've gone badly but I didn't think I had anything to lose. With all of the different firmware and rom version that I wasn't aware of it sounds like there was actually a lot I could've lost with my wing it aproach.
This oldish Android version I'm on now seems to use a lot of battery, presumably connected to the additional "HTC Pocket Radiator" feature which it also turns on sporadically. It's not a big problem but I think I'll have a bash with the MaximusHD you suggested. Question though, Googling for a bit more info on MaximusHD 5.0 it appears to be Lollipop, am I right? If so, just to confirm, you're saying that I could have problems with Lollipop because of my firmware but this version of it should work ok with my current firmware? From googling I found a description of the rom that said "Firmware 7.15.401.1 is recommended to install". Sorry, just making sure because my luck is likely to run out soon.
EDIT
Also, if I do need to S-OFF, you mention Sunshine and you mention $25, this is a 3 year old phone with a slight crack in the screen so I'm not going to throw any money at it but I found Squabbi's tool kit which uses Revone for S-OFF, would this be no good?

There is a 6.16.61.8 signed RUU available but unfortunately, its only available at ir-file.com and you need a paid account to download from that website.

Right the update will not work but there is no chance of bricking here, the ota install process will only stop before flashing anything since the Orange CID and .61 Firmware of the phone doesn't match the WWE CID and .401 base of the OTA

No, Revone is only for hboot 1.44 pre-June 2013 version. For hboot 1.57 and above, Sunshine is the only way.

Ok, MaximusHD was mentioned. 50.0 looks to be the latest version and that's the version posted above but that's Lollipop, would 40.0 be the right one for me?
I might be best just leaving it as is. I've successfully upgraded it from a paperweight to a phone, if I twist I might bust and end up back with a shiny paperweight again.
