Im using xperia z with kitkat 4.4.4 Generic IN rom, The phone gets over heated at times and it leads to battery drain, sometimes the phone works like butter but at times it becomes hot volcano in the pocket :/
Is it my phone's problem or the roms problem?
I want a much more bloatware free version of kitkat 4.4.4. Which one would you prefer ?
Thanks.

If the problem only on this android version so it's software issue, try to flash stock based ROM.
You cannot "remove" a system app without rooting your device.
Rooting your device will not void your warranty, unlocking the bootloader will do. So you can root without unlocking your bootloader.

I still dont want to root my phone. Can you suggest me a ROM which is bloatware free?
You can flash any rom which is not provider specific. I, for one, flashed the generic RU version.

AOSP ROMs has small number of bloatware. But you need to root and install recovery and unlock your bootloader which will void your warranty.

Unlocking the bootloader won't void warranty. Tinkering with stuff that you have access to once the bl is unlocked and killing your phone, will.

Ask anyone? OK I'll ask me,
I unlocked my old xperia s, and still had warranty. Sent it in for repair after 18 months, came back with new screen, new housing, bootloader still unlocked.

If you unlock the boot loader, you may void the warranty of your device and/or any warranty from your operator.

We here are talking about a newer device than Xperia S. And I'm saying again ask other members which more experienced than me like @kingvortex or @Rajeev or @androidtweaker1

I did previously believe that it did invalidate your warranty, but found out that it depends where you live/purchased the device. Unlocking the bootloader and/or flashing custom roms does not invalidate your warranty in European Union member states as per EU directive 1999/44/EC.
More info here.
As for other regional consumer laws, I don't know enough about them to comment.

Please make a clean installation of 4.4.4 or do a factory reset and you will solve your problems. For rooting you can use kingvortex method on general section. For custom roms use search box or google it, you can try several roms and than decide what is the best for you. Cheers.

I'm not scaring you! Just warning you
The most 2 think you should never ever try or think about them is: flashing other device's kernel. Like flashing other Xperia or Samsung kernel on your device
And the same thing with the ROMs
Those things can hard brick your device. And you will never get it back... So don't try them!
The wrong mods of other devices or ROMs can soft brick your device. This can easily fixed but you will loose your data...
And good thing! You can use any C6602 mods kernels ROMs on C6603 and vice versa
And here is a link for KitKat FTF http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/stock-rom-xperia-z-c6603-android-4-4-4-t2871851

Dial *#*#7378423#*#* and go to service info / configurations / rooting status and if it's saying Bootloader unlock allowed YES so you can unlock your bootloader and if NO so you can't
If the ROM you are trying to install is stock based so you can install it without unlocking
But the custom ROMs need custom kernel and the custom kernel need unlocked bootloader so you can't keep it locked while you running custom ROM because that will brick your device for sure

So, the thing is if you installed some other ROM but you did not liked it and want to revert back to your original ROM you can always restore your ROM only if you had backed up your ROM. Incase if your backed up ROM doesnot restore or you don't have a backup than you use flashtool to install the original version of your ROM. But there is one thing, your guarantee is already broken if you used flashtool or even if you install the other ROM and you don't have the original ROM that came up with your mobile.
Those files are just the original firmwares that developers have downloaded with PC companion and made the ftf file with Flashtool, so that it will be easy to install using flashtool.
So, if your mobile has the original ROM and you have not done anything then always update via your PC Companion or from Settings>>About Phone>>Software update.
For other people they cannot update from that method because they are not allowed due to many reasons and they need those ftf files from the link that you stated.

I was using existenz 7 and i was pretty satisfied with the overall perfomance, it's certainly a great rom, but i soft-bricked my c6602 so i had to flash a stock firmware.
Now i'm running on official 4.2.2 and intending to flash a custom rom instead but this time i want to try something else than existenz,
So what is the best rom -no matter android version- you've tried on sony xperia z in terms of stability, performance, battery life?

A moderator told me that there's been a policy change and best rom threads are allowed now. I'm not sure why, but they must think it's a good idea. I just think it will lead to arguments, personally.

Rules changed?
It's actually will help people what to choose but it's may also make the ROMs developers feel little bad.. I don't know what exactly I should say....

Well if many of as refused this. The moderators may change the rule..
I can see many threads about that started and those threads are allowed from just few days ago.
The forum will ruined if this keep going for sure
We should talk to the moderators and see what they can change.

Yes exactly and as you can see i edit my reply before you start to reply bro, i sended already a pm to one of my moderator friends to ask some clarification about that.
Every forum is already messed up with 1000 of the same questions and blablabla if the answer is already there in that way but in a different order.

Then you didn't test all the roms if you focus only on Excistinz, there are new roms like Ultimate PureXZ and MoonWalker Revolution (based on 4.4.4) !

Yes that's true. Many answered questions are asked again AND again. People are so lazy to just Google for there answer. At least they should just search for the answer.. It's isn't hard!
the forum should have a first time opening dialogue for who access this forum for the first time. Just a useful idea to teach people what should do and what's not.

I'm looking at the PM right now. I reported this thread and he replied that the policy had changed so the thread was allowed. I messaged him after to clarify and he said it had just changed the previous day. He also said all mentions of best rom threads not being allowed were going to be removed from the site.
I'm not going to say which moderator it was, but he was pretty clear on it. Perhaps your friend should check with someone higher up the chain?

There is no such thing as the best ROM. Every person in the world has different expectations, therefore this thread is totally useless.
After upgrading to 4.4.4, I have experienced some touch screen issue, when I turn on the screen, the touch screen is not working, I cannot even unlock my phone. Only if I turn the screen off and on a few times, the screen will go back to normal. I have already done a factory reset but seems the problem still exists.
This problem does not exist in previous Rom versions.
Can anyone help for this issue?
