bootloader locked and custom rom - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i fixed my phone today and try unlocking it,
i rooted it with towelroot, and even putted recovery, but the bootloader is locked, and flashtool tells me there is no offciail way to unlock it,
can i unlock it?
(my ultimate goal is to install a custom rom on it and flash puresound, so my question is, can i install a rom, without bricking my device, with my locked bootloader)

Dial *#*#7378423#*#* and go to service info / configurations / rooting status and if it's saying Bootloader unlock allowed YES so you can unlock your bootloader and if NO so you can't
If the ROM you are trying to install is stock based so you can install it without unlocking
But the custom ROMs need custom kernel and the custom kernel need unlocked bootloader so you can't keep it locked while you running custom ROM because that will brick your device for sure

Its says no. Is there any way at all to unlock it?
Like talking to Sony services or something
I bought it second hand
And tnx for the explanation it helped me understand what bootloader is, I'm new to Sony devices I had Samsung until now

Sorry bro @androidfreak70
I correct you because you give not good info, he can install a custom rom based on stock with a locked bootloader so he dont need to unlock it, he needs only to unlock it if he wanna install a CM/PAC or OASP Roms because those roms needs an unlocked bootloader and not the custom stock based roms like Excistinz/MoonWalker or Ulitmate Pure etc !

Hey guys i'm new here, and I don't want to hijack this thread but my question is almost the exact same, I've got the xperia Z c6606, rooted on towel root, I know i can flash roms based on the stock kernel, I was looking at Ihackers rom for the xperia z, it says it will work with locked or unlocked bootloader but in the devices it says it will only work with two other devices, I forget which, c6602 and c6603 I think, sorry if I'm wrong, I'm just curious on where I stand, I just don't want to brick the phone, and the information conflicts.

Please read the OP of all CM rom threads
Bootloader needs to be unlocked.
But you can install stock based roms.
Just look in the dev section and read up on the roms.

There is no ROMs for the Xperia TL so you would have to use xperia T Roms. Flash xperia t firmware but don't flash the xperia t baseband. Find a guide on how to use flash tool

You are stuck. You can only flash stock-based ROMs. There are several in the Development section. I am currently using the Hybrid (Stock/CM10) ROM.

You're stuck. Your bootloader is probably unable to be unlocked. You can only go for stock-based roms. Roms like CyanogenMod or AOKP needs an unlocked bootloader.

Yes, you can use stock (XPERIA T) FTF's - just skip the baseband portion before you being flashing so you keep your AT&T baseband.
Then root with whatever method is needed
Then install CWM recovery
Then yes - you can flash stock-based (XPERIA T!) roms. You can usually tell the rom is stock/Locked Bootloader/LBL-friendly in the title of the thread, or in the first few posts of the thread. Also, I don't know how important this is - but also look to see what stock kernel the rom is based on (LT30p 141? 145? 489?). Stock kernel zips can be flashed via CWM recovery (I know that my Bell LT30a works fine with LT30p kernels, but I wonder if the AT&T LT30at will also be fine with it?). My favourite ROMS have been XperimenT and T-Hybrid so far... Good luck
And always keep your stock FTF handy! Because if any flashing you do doesn't work, you can always quickly fall back on a fresh whole FTF flash that is appropriate for your phone. Then the fun starts all over
Kernel
I did flash the kernel 145 from the T idk what really went wrong but my phone stuck on the sony logo
also i use XperimenT rom and flash it using CWM it install in about 7 secs which doesnt seems right . any suggestions ?
Problem solved

after trying diffrent method and days of trouble shooting with my friend
LaZiODROID there is a solution, using cwm(v9) would not format your system and data files thats the reason why the rom hangs at the sony logo because no system files were installed if u check the log, using cwm(v8) for the T,TL is the most stable and will install the rom and kernel with ease. Remeber to always wipe/factory reset then format system and in advance settings wipe dalvik before u install any rom.

For now, you must unlock your bootloader before you can use custom ROM on your phone
Ex. CM, PAC, AOKP, etc.

No, locked bootloader just support stock firmware, or stock based ROM's. Since the last stock firmware for our device is 4.1.2, the only way you to put a newer version is by unlocking your bootloader.
But don't be afraid, Sony will realease android 4.3 for XSP this month.

Hi - can you tell me which roms you have been able to install with locked bootloader .... thanks
Andrew
With a locked bootloader you can only use Stock based roms – so no Kit Kat custom roms on a LB until Sony release 4.4 themselves.
These Roms will typically have the latest Sony media apps (camera, Walkman, video etc.) and use the Honami (Xperia Z) theme. They are often de-bloated and tweaked so their free RAM and out of memory settings improve on normal performance. Other features may include an expanded power menu and long press volume key to change track when listening to music.
Existenz is the most fully featured custom rom you can install without unlocking your bootloader.
An alternative is to install a debloated ROM and use the Xposed framework to get some of the goodies from Kit Kat and other AOSP based roms. This is what I did before CM was developed for the SP.
yes u can..

[Q] about unlocked bootloader

Hey guys.
I want to unlock Bootloader but i have a few questions.
What can i do when i unlocked Bootloader?
For example can i install any stock rom when phone bricked or anytime?
And What can't i do?
Last question is What shouldn't i do? i mean What i do my phone is bricked?
I'm so sorry for my bad english :/ Plz help me.
With an unlocked bootloader you are able to install custom Kernels. CyanogenMod based ROMS require a diffrent kernel and this requires an unlocked bootloader.
You need to follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354721
AND REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR TA PARTITION!!!!!!

...Except you CAN get CM 10.2, CM 11, AOKP, PAC-Man Rom, SlimBean and SlimKit on Locked Bootloader thanks to @bagyusz. [Q] Root without Flashing?

Absolute beginner. Please help. Following questions very likely have been asked before and answered. In that case please direct me to the relevant thread/s.
1. I have just unlocked the bootloader of my kitkat (4.4.4 -- 10.5.1.A.0.283);
2. Is it possible to root without flashing a custom ROM?
3. Can we use Sony's flashtool (called Emma) to flash a non-sony ROM?

Flash prerooted stock based ROM
Same (or better) stock ROMs experience with extra ROOT and dual recovery and also no need for unlocking your bootloader
And you can't use Emma to flash non stock ROMs
And please do not post your questions here ok?

Im using xperia z with kitkat 4.4.4 Generic IN rom, The phone gets over heated at times and it leads to battery drain, sometimes the phone works like butter but at times it becomes hot volcano in the pocket :/
Is it my phone's problem or the roms problem?

If the problem only on this android version so it's software issue, try to flash stock based ROM.
You cannot "remove" a system app without rooting your device.
Rooting your device will not void your warranty, unlocking the bootloader will do. So you can root without unlocking your bootloader.

AOSP ROMs has small number of bloatware. But you need to root and install recovery and unlock your bootloader which will void your warranty.

Unlocking the bootloader won't void warranty. Tinkering with stuff that you have access to once the bl is unlocked and killing your phone, will.

Ask anyone? OK I'll ask me,
I unlocked my old xperia s, and still had warranty. Sent it in for repair after 18 months, came back with new screen, new housing, bootloader still unlocked.

If you unlock the boot loader, you may void the warranty of your device and/or any warranty from your operator.

I did previously believe that it did invalidate your warranty, but found out that it depends where you live/purchased the device. Unlocking the bootloader and/or flashing custom roms does not invalidate your warranty in European Union member states as per EU directive 1999/44/EC.
More info here.
As for other regional consumer laws, I don't know enough about them to comment.
