Gmail contacts sync not working on 4.4.4 - Moto X Q&A

My fiancée somehow killed the battery in her AT&T X, they sent her a replacement and while installing apps, etc the contacts all synced and displayed as expected. I run the 4.4.4 upgrade and reboot to no Android, contacts, just Gmail. I clear the People app data, cycle through syncing the contacts a few times, no dice. Do a little Googling and try a suggestion to use a VPN, still nothing. Delete her account and resync, same results.
Finally I try a master reset, still nothing.
Here's the f'ing weird part: when I first opened the dialer, her starred contacts were there for an instant and then disappeared.
Does anyone have any tricks or workarounds? I've been on AOKP for years with a series of Galaxies and don't know what to do since I can't really flash a different gapps.

You could always try manually flashing a stock image from fastboot.

Unfortunately the SBF for 4.4.4 hasn't been released yet so that means she'll have to take the OTA again. Honestly, manually flashing back to stock has saved me a couple of times. It's about as good as factory resetting your phone and in some cases can be better. Hope this helps.

[Q] [Help] Calendar stuck syncing, freezes phone if opened

Hi all,
I'm running SpeedMod Kernel and stock Froyo 2.2.1. I did have Darky's ROM installed, but I've reset all caches, reformatted all things reformattable and reinstalled stock firmware (though not stock kernel... where does one find that!?).
Anyhow, the issue is (and I've done 5 factory resets so far, same problem each time) that when I set up my Google account, the phone endlessly syncs the calendar (little icon displayed on task bar and icon next to calendar in sync settings rotating). If you try to open the calendar app itself the entire phone hangs and you have to force restart. Also if I leave it for a while and come back it has frozen and needs to be forced to restart. It never stops syncing the calendar...
Has anyone encountered this problem and/or has a solution.
On a possibly related note, some of my appointments in Google Calendar have disappeared... did the phone delete them in it's mental sync antics?
This is really starting to annoy me...!
Thanks for your help!
PS. I have also tried clearing the data in the Calendar and related sync apps in app manager. Can it be that I have so much Google Calendar data to sync? It's been syncing on wifi for over 3 hours now... but Calendar app shows 0 kb, Calendar data shows about 300 kb and Calendar sync helper things shows 200 kb or so....
UPDATE: I've seen others on other forums having this trouble, even without mucking about with firmwares. Their suggested (and often successful) solution was to clear all caches and data and take the battery out for some time to let things discharge. I've done this... and the problem persists. Does anyone know if you can contact Google and have them look at the server side to see if something has snarled up there?
Any help appreciated!

Contacts dissaper in "PEOPLE" app

I have this problem on ICS...it's not rom related...cause i had it on Blue Lightning 1.1.0 and also on SLim ICS 3.1...the problem is that after some time (also after reboot) my contacts in people apps dissapear...it shows no contact...but when i open phone app contacts are dispayed there...i thought taht problem was because i had inverted contacts app...but now i have normal and again :/
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Have you cleared data from people app and contacts and everything contact related? Also download TB and do it from there. I had problems with my keyboard and somehow deleting from manage apps didn't work but deleting from TB solved it. Somehow its more through.
Have you factory reset from recovery and wiped cache, dalvik, system, etc..
Then flashed a rom fresh?
Of course i've done full wipe...and i tried clearing data of contacts but i don't try it through TB...i'll try and it now thanks but it was on two roms...my friend also have this problem now... :/ we don't know why...
after 2 reboots same again...no contact in people app...but through phone they are there... :/
I am in serious trouble w/ contact app too.
I am in ICS 4.0.4 Custom Rom(s). My Sync is always OFF..
Inverted or normal one make my contact members repeat to many times even 10 x the same member..
I am Cleaning data and reimporting them from Card but it has been doing the same behavior.
Upon a suggestion, I installed GoContacts EX and used its "merge" option but I observed this app erases fully the contact members itself. This apps also needs reimporting continuously.
I am sick and tired of this trouble..
Someone says SWYPE causes this problem, but I selected AndroidKeybord, still the same problem..
ANY SOLUTION ??

I can only think of two more things...
1. If both of you have it, it must be an app or something both of you are doing..
2. Another stupid thing that is probably tried... Go to the people app press menu, and look at contact to display..

I doubt swype is the problem i have used it before and nothing like this has happened. If it could be the problem you will probably have to disable the app from manage apps or un-install it for it to solve the problem
Where are all of you getting your contacts from, have you not stored it on google and then synced them. Or are they multiple sources?
Look at the pictures bellow...you can see that in people app there are no contacts but in phone app they are there! i tried to display all contacts and so on but no luck...
1. What happens when you click on "set up my profile"
2. Also when you go to "contacts to display" does the account you want show up?
3. Where are your contacts stored?? Google? Email? Sim card? sd card? Where?
4. When you try import it appears and then disappears later on....correct?
5. Have you tried wiping from Titanium backup?
Please answer all Q's
1. i can create my profile with my name i think...or what it is
2. yes they are both my gmail accounts
3. now on sd card...i tried it also with gmail and my friend who has this issue from sim...same problem
4. when i import them they are shown, but after some time they are not there, also after reboot they just dissapear
5. yes i tried it...didn't help
Full wipe again, fix permissions from recovery after setting up accounts manually (your not using back ups are you? If you are don't). Do this before setting up apps (let google download it automatically and finish, along with your contacts)
Upon reboot if the contacts aren't there again, delete one account and set-up again immediately. Let all contacts download turn off sync, go to recovery fix permissions, delete cache, and dalvik, reboot. Hopefully they should be there
If not then i think im out of ideas... Unless you want to see what happens when you go back to stock.... Its worth a try if its that annoying (I don't use the people app, only the phone app )
Very Good luck to you!!
My only Choice
As the most of ICS 4.0.4 custom Roms are connecting itself Wi-fi or Data and consequently as soon as connected it is syncing w/ google contacts even if it is set as 'sync off'.
Finally I could not find any other way but I rearranged my Google/ Gmail Contacts as the way I want in my phone thru the laptop.
It syncs but no more repetitions and erase.

[Q][HELP] Restarting causes various issues

Recently when I have restarted my HTC One I have had various issues as follows:
1. App icons not displaying at all or just the generic green app icon, this is usually resolved after restarting a number of times
2. All text messages are deleted, don't know how to get them back
3. Call history deleted, couldn't really care less about this
4. The most annoying recent one is that contact favourites were deleted except for 2 and it only contained their email address now and not their phone numbers. Also when I try to add people to the favourties no contacts with phone numbers come up only those with email addresses, however I can find these contacts with numbers when I go to the people section when not adding a favourite. This is really bizarre.
Has anyone come across any of the above? Btw I have the Viper ROM installed and the kernel to make the home button the on button (sometimes this looses sensitivity)
Any help would be appreciated!
There are a couple of things you need to do
Firstly to get the contacts backed up use your Google email address and sync it allow it to sync your contacts but auto sync is a hog so I would only manually sync
Secondly I think that you need to re-flash the Rom as it seems to have all sorts of issues (it is a great Rom but there are also other as good I'm not knocking it at all)
but first go into Recovery and clear the Dalvic cache then reboot, it may resolve it
Failing that then just re-install the latest version and follow the instructions
Take care in installing all the mods you can as they may conflict, tbo on Viper it has been modded so most don't need to change a lot else

went with the re-flash, I think I know now what originally happened with my contacts, it dleted all those from the phone so I needed to export them from the sim to the phone again to rectifiy this and then they should have appeared in the favourites, bit strange but that's the way it appears to work.
thanks for your help!

Google Contacts won't sync

Anyone had an issue with contacts in google account not syncing after the last OTA upgrade (5.1.1 0F8 Build)? All other sync (calendar, chrome, drive, gmail, App data) in google accounts work without issue. Contacts, however, have not synced successfully since 7/31/15. Manually syncing results in the sync circle spinning momentarily and then stopping. No errors, but no updates either. I've gone and cleared the cache a number of times but it hasn't resolved the issue. Any thoughts / solutions would be appreciated.
Same Issue
I am having the same issue. Some of my google contact show up while other do not. It only started happening after the OTA upgrade to 5.1.1 0F8 Build update. Everything else syncs, but contacts just spin; however, the time of last sync does not update. Even removing the Google account and adding it back in did not help.

Yeah, thanks, I tried the same. Removing the google account and adding back. I'm considering just doing a wipe, but I'd like to avoid that and there's no guarantee it would work anyway. Really odd because everything else is functioning well.

Try running this app, no guarantees it can solve this specific issue, but it might.

It didn't resolve this issue, but thanks for offering up a possible solution

Contacts won't sync and other issues

I'm not sure if this is Note 8 related, Samsung related, or an Android-wide Google issue, but figured I'd start here.
I have a Verizon branded Note 8 that I'm using on T-Mo. I just bought the device Monday from an individual. I flashed the T-Mobile firmware and everything seemed to be working fine, until I noticed not all my contacts synced from Google. I'd say probably 75% of them synced, but I was missing a large random chunk of them.
I tried everything I read to resolve the issue. Deleted and re-added my Google account. Cleared the contacts app data/cache. Rebooted. Downloaded Contact Sync Fix. Nothing fixed it. I evwn downloaded Google Contacts, and they wouldbt all sync. I checked my Google contacts online and they're all there. If I ADD a contact to my Note 8, it syncs to my Google account.
I checked my S8+ and tried to re-sync my contacts on that device, and it keeps giving the "Sync is having issues..." message. I don't get that message on my Note 8, but obviously it isn't syncing properly.
I did a factory reset. That didn't fix it. I flashed the unlocked firmware, that didn't fix it. I set rhe phone back up, and I noticed issue #2. I suddenly lost the ability to customize my Google search bar. It wasn't a big deal at first. I usually have to wait for the app to update after setting the phone back up, and sometimes have to delete and add the search bar widget back. But no matter what I try, it won't work.
I factory reset again and flashed back to the T-Mo firmware. I didn't restore ANYTHING and set it all up from scratch as a new device. Still those two issues remain. I'm bone stock, not rooted, stock Touchwiz launcher, using all the stock Samsung apps. My work around is all my contacts were synced with my Samsung account, and they synced to my Note 8 just fine, but I want my Google Account contacts to sync properly. The search bar will just stay white I guess.
TL;DR:
1. Google contacts not syncing properly.
2. Google search bar widget no longer customizable.
google related problem.

Your link says page not found, but I finally got it working properly after you responded. I couldn't get it to Sync properly at first. It took me deleting my Google Account, turning off Samsung Contacts Sync, deleting all the contacts from my phone, force stopping the contacts app and clearing it's data. Then I rebooted, added my Google account and let it all Sync again. Low and behold, all my contacts have now synced properly.
My Google search bar widget has still lost its ability to be customised however. Which sucks, because I like a dark theme and it was awesome setting the bar to Black and transparent.
