Hi
I'm planning to get the Z3C soon and have a few questions that I'm hoping some users with the device using tmobile could help me out with.
1. Does the SMH (wifi tethering) work on the phone? My current phone doesn't support it for some reason, and they say it's because my phone is unlocked and not from tmobile. It has the option, but just never starts.
2. How is the LTE speed? Faster/slower than what you had before? Or about the same.
3. How is the reception on the phone? I read about how the phone is displaying less bars even though the signal strength is good so I'm not worried about that.
4. Does wifi-calling work? I assuming not cause it's not from Tmobile, but I thought I would ask anyways since no one addressed it yet.
That's all I could think of that isn't already answered in one of the other threads.

No, WiFi calling will not work on any non T-Mobile branded phones. The WiFi Calling aspect is baked into t-mobiles ROMs. Non one has been able to get this to work, on any phone that is not T-Mobile branded, AFAIK. However, Hangouts and SIP calling works quite well.
Since the Z3 (non-compact) appears to be headed to TMO, will that ROM be able to be loaded onto the Z3 Compact to enable Wi-Fi calling? (I am assuming that the Z3 will be able to use Wi-Fi calling, since I think all smart phones sold by TMO now support it)
Still keeping my fingers crossed that the C is available from TMO also!

Possible ... but, I have no idea. It seems plausible ... but there are differences between the Z3 and Z3C that may not make it possible. Keep your fingers crossed, as I would like that as well.
thanks guys for the prompt replies :good:

But my device only shows EDGE. Card shows 3g in an iphone so it isnt that. Anyone know why im only getting EDGE???

ATT and TMobile use different 3g bands so EDGE is all you will ever get. Same thing happens in reverse until there are phones that support both sets of bands (not likely).
well thats just GREAT!!
thanks. have to port to t-mob again!

To expand on what you said, they use different 3G bands AND the hardware that is able to talk to said bands is exclusive to both AT&T and T-Mobile TP2 phones. There is a physical hardware difference between the two, so upgrading to a different radio will not allow you use your T-Mobile TP2 on AT&T's 3G network, either.

Aye. It's like with my wife. She has a G1 right now with T-Mobile. However, her friend has a MeToo (iPhone) with AT&T. Of course, she wants the iPhone now and told me that other day that she can get one that is already unlocked for use with other carriers. I had to explain to her that I would get her the iPhone if she wanted, but that she would NOT get 3G while on T-Mobile's network given the hardware constraints. She didn't say much after that.
Research is key. I see it every day in the NRG ROM thread. People see "Manila 2.5" and immediately grab that version. However, they fail to research and don't realize that Manila 2.5 is still in its beta form from HTC. They ask why certain functions don't work...they even seem surprised when they don't work. When explained to them that it is still in beta form, they quickly go back to lurking.

Yup I do agree some research is always good! But TP2 is worth it without 3G... I dont loose much by loosing 3G compatibility.

ditto on that, where I live we don't get stable 3g and when we do I don't notice any speed advantages. When I drive to atlanta where they have a stable 3G I only noticed that google maps DIDN"T like to even connect at 3G. And I wasn't really using anything else while there, I actually disabled the stupid 3G radio on my pantech just so I could use google maps. Sooo... never really had it anyway and got tired of waiting for ATT to drop their TP2 or even the TD2. bought a TM TP2 and I've been in heaven ever since. Phooey 3G... who needs ya? I got WiFi and edge is fine for whatever else I need on the road.

i've been with tmobile forever and this is my first taste of 3g, and i gotta say, i was much more excited about it than actually having it. i get 3g in my area and it makes nearly no difference in what i do with opera mini.
espn will load a hair faster and i finally get a good slingbox stream, but other than that, i wouldn't die if i had to go back to edge

You will see a MUCH bigger difference when you aren't using a browser that compresses the data before it gets to your phone.
Opera mini does just that. Thus, you won't see much of a difference between Edge and 3G. Skyfire also does it as well, I believe.
When you start downloading "raw" data, though, you will really see the difference in speed.
Hi!
I'm planning to buy a customized Moto X unlocked GSM edition but I'm wondering if it'll work outside the US.
At Moto they don't know as "they haven't tried it". And is confusing as it says on their website that is GSM unlocked but comes with a t-mobile sim card, so it's unlocked to work with t-mobile and at&t only or also open to other compatible GSM networks around the world? Has anyone had the chance to try it?

Most phones shipped these days support most 2g/3g bands to support international roaming features. Say you're going to Europe, i wouldn't count on you getting anywhere near LTE speeds or even 4g speeds because there networks aren't that developed yet, put in simple terms, but there's a good chance that you can still get a supported 2g/3g connection, does that make sense? I would take it with me if i were you, no harm in that right?
moto x in Belgium
I got my T-mobile Moto X shipped to Belgium, it works on the local GSM networks.

3G is fast enough. As the 4G network is not fully developed (no full country coverage), and the prices are still high, I don't think it's really worth stressing too much about it. I ordered myself a MotoX from the states with a non-compatible LTE hardware just now. I know that I won't use that technology in a comfortable way anyways for the next 2 years. For my personal needs, 3G+ is more than enough.

Ya don't worry about it too much because it sounds like you're a casual user, mainly for emails and such I'm guessing? But anyways Lte speeds are really going to take off in the next couple years so you'll be in for a treat when you get back Happy Journey!

Well I could say casual user, I guess, but I use mostly wifi wherever I spend more time. Home, work, friends place, all have good wifi, so when I'm out, I switch to 3G, and in that time I don't really need super fast speeds.
Thanks.

T-Mobile US at the moment has decided to not carry the Z3c, but they do have the Z3. WiFi calling is an important feature for me. With the specs, radios, and almost everything, except for the screen and memory, between the Z3 and Z3c being the same, I was wondering if anyone has explored porting the US T-Mobile Z3 ROM to the Z3c? Based on my limited knowledge, I don't think it would be difficult at all. Thoughts?
Cheers,

Thanks C2, but the T-MO WiFi calling is a bit different. It will transfer a call to/from WiFi and cell coverage. For example, I take a call in the car on the way home from work, and then walk into my house. The WiFi calling will transfer the call from cell to my home WiFi, and not lose connection.
Cheers,
Mike
I second this - would be awesome mainly for reception, VoLTE, etc.

Was this tried/did this work on the Z1C/Z1s as T-mobile had a Z1 device a year ago and there was a comparable compact version?
does the Z3C even have wifi calling hardware capability?

probably not going to happen. you do need the tech for it to work since it tmo uses UMA. also wifi calling doesn't even work like that one guy says. currently, they can't pass the calls from lte to wifi (or vice versa). if you walk out of range it just disconnects and you have to call them again.

Any chance of bringing this up again? looks like the Z3 FW is available here:

My wife just got the Z3C and she is really enjoying what is basicly the only good small Android phone, but her signal in her office is little to none.
Signal boosters are not allowed in her building as they can interfere with WiFi.
I would love to find a way to get T-Mobile's WiFi calling on her phone as it works very well for me on my Note4
Thanks all
Hello. I've just talked with T-Mobile over one hour trying to make the phone connect to LTE. I've read multiple threads and things about it with very disheartening mixed results. I'm about to pack it and unfortunately send it back to them unless some knight in shining armor can really show me what is going wrong here.
I've tested in multiple ways the speed, the symbol doesn't switch from 4G and the speed barely reaches 10 mb.
Any luck?

I just tested both Nexus 5 that we have in the house and although they seem to connect to LTE, they also have low speed, so I suppose it is a network problem from the company. Let me know in case anyone has anything about it being a consistent problem on the OnePlus 3T though. Thanks.

Mmm, I've tested on the other phones again. All of them display LTE, none of them are getting top speeds like they usually do and the model seems to be correct. OnePlus 3T still display as 4G and has the same speed in the same network. Might be a T-Mobile problem.

Yeah, it seems like it. To be honest, I rarely check for LTE connection since I spend most of my days in a big zone with Wi-Fi everywhere. It's usually by train and all and since I don't use Netflix and all it might be a common problem and I never realized (but my old phone very rarely switched from LTE to 4G).
I'll call them about it.
Upgrade to OOS 4.1 see if it helps
Im having speed issues with Tmobile and the op3. My s7e and zuk z2 get 20-40mbps download, the op3 gets less than 1, but 9 mbps upload.
All connected on band 4, something is up...
Update OOS. apparently there were issues with T-Mobile and Carrier aggragation going on early in the phone's life. otherwise I have zero issues. That may solve your problem.
I purchased a midnight black and have been using it for about a week now, I flashed Freedom OS and havent had any LTE issues on T-Mobile
I'm on T-Mobile, model A3000, and mine is displaying the LTE logo and getting great speeds (40mb/s +). Is there anything I can check in my settings that would help you troubleshoot?
I'm with T-Mobile and I have no problems with my OnePlus 3T.

I have wanted to get the ROG since the 2 came out. I'm on Verizon and don't plan on changing anytime soon.
Can the 3 work on the Verizon network? If it does, will it be limited in any way (service area, speed, bands, and so forth)? What has to be done to make it work?

it should work only on 4G network only on Verizon network, no 5G or 3G which might be an issue for you .

Data only on 4g.
Has anyone been able to to try it?
I was hoping someone could say there experience with using it on Verizon's network?
It seems this reviewer tried it on Verizon: pcmag com /product-guides/137219/asus-rog-phone-3
We asked in the comments and I emailed him personally but he did not respond.
I think it working on 4g is a good bet. You would just have to root to be able to enable VoLTE and Wifi calling. Like they did for the ROG phone 2.

So, just to be sure that I understand you correctly. You are saying it will ONLY do data? No calls?
Could you also please give your reason, knowledge, or sources for the statement? Thank you in advance.
