Hello. I've just talked with T-Mobile over one hour trying to make the phone connect to LTE. I've read multiple threads and things about it with very disheartening mixed results. I'm about to pack it and unfortunately send it back to them unless some knight in shining armor can really show me what is going wrong here.
I've tested in multiple ways the speed, the symbol doesn't switch from 4G and the speed barely reaches 10 mb.
Any luck?

I just tested both Nexus 5 that we have in the house and although they seem to connect to LTE, they also have low speed, so I suppose it is a network problem from the company. Let me know in case anyone has anything about it being a consistent problem on the OnePlus 3T though. Thanks.

You probably got the wrong version. Everybody who can't get LTE eventually figures out they got the Chinese or European version NOT the united States version.

Mmm, I've tested on the other phones again. All of them display LTE, none of them are getting top speeds like they usually do and the model seems to be correct. OnePlus 3T still display as 4G and has the same speed in the same network. Might be a T-Mobile problem.

Yeah, it seems like it. To be honest, I rarely check for LTE connection since I spend most of my days in a big zone with Wi-Fi everywhere. It's usually by train and all and since I don't use Netflix and all it might be a common problem and I never realized (but my old phone very rarely switched from LTE to 4G).
I'll call them about it.
Upgrade to OOS 4.1 see if it helps
Im having speed issues with Tmobile and the op3. My s7e and zuk z2 get 20-40mbps download, the op3 gets less than 1, but 9 mbps upload.
All connected on band 4, something is up...
Update OOS. apparently there were issues with T-Mobile and Carrier aggragation going on early in the phone's life. otherwise I have zero issues. That may solve your problem.
I purchased a midnight black and have been using it for about a week now, I flashed Freedom OS and havent had any LTE issues on T-Mobile
I'm on T-Mobile, model A3000, and mine is displaying the LTE logo and getting great speeds (40mb/s +). Is there anything I can check in my settings that would help you troubleshoot?
I'm with T-Mobile and I have no problems with my OnePlus 3T.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Like others have said, update your OxygenOS first, there have been carrier improvements since the version you're on. My 3T has had zero issues w/ T-Mobile. I get VoLTE and VoWiFi w/ no issues, along with respective LTE speeds.

Hi
I'm planning to get the Z3C soon and have a few questions that I'm hoping some users with the device using tmobile could help me out with.
1. Does the SMH (wifi tethering) work on the phone? My current phone doesn't support it for some reason, and they say it's because my phone is unlocked and not from tmobile. It has the option, but just never starts.
2. How is the LTE speed? Faster/slower than what you had before? Or about the same.
3. How is the reception on the phone? I read about how the phone is displaying less bars even though the signal strength is good so I'm not worried about that.
4. Does wifi-calling work? I assuming not cause it's not from Tmobile, but I thought I would ask anyways since no one addressed it yet.
That's all I could think of that isn't already answered in one of the other threads.

No, WiFi calling will not work on any non T-Mobile branded phones. The WiFi Calling aspect is baked into t-mobiles ROMs. Non one has been able to get this to work, on any phone that is not T-Mobile branded, AFAIK. However, Hangouts and SIP calling works quite well.
Since the Z3 (non-compact) appears to be headed to TMO, will that ROM be able to be loaded onto the Z3 Compact to enable Wi-Fi calling? (I am assuming that the Z3 will be able to use Wi-Fi calling, since I think all smart phones sold by TMO now support it)
Still keeping my fingers crossed that the C is available from TMO also!

Possible ... but, I have no idea. It seems plausible ... but there are differences between the Z3 and Z3C that may not make it possible. Keep your fingers crossed, as I would like that as well.

Hello,
I tried to search the threads, but i did nit find the information i was looking for, if i did miss this somewhere please point me toward the correct thread and excuse me for this thread.
I was on AOSIP and untill the latest update i was golden, but since the latest update my 4g data transfer speeds are terrible, i litterally see the pictures build as i was the case on old dial-up connections.
I formatted the phone and cleanflashed chroma because i used that before with no problems, but also there is have the slow 4g speeds. i tried resetting my apn settings but to no avail.
I'm on the dutch t-mobile network and thought that the problem is because of the wifi calling.
All data on 4g is slow Streaming music, video, webbrowsing....... the lot.
am i the only one and do i need to RMA my phone or is it somethin known and can somebody help me fix this.
thanks in advance

sounds like the issue is with your local provider, not your actual phone. if your local network has many people on it, it will reduce speeds. the more people, the slower speeds will be.

Mine slow in Houston on Verizon. Don't know if throttled but shouldn't be. APN #s on Google different from what on stock Nexus 6.
Well since the release of 5.1.1, band 12 has been opened up on T-Mobile. Chances are that you are on it now instead of the typical band 4.band 12 is slower but way more reliable and gets through buildings better than 4.
For instance, on 4 I was able to easily get up to 60mbps, but on band 12 I can't break 20. So I would say it's the carrier instead of your device.

thanks for all the tips guys, but no succes, there are no other apn's and if it is related to the 12 band in stead of the 4, the probably don't support that here in the Netherlands yet.

I've been noticing slower than usual LTE speeds lately on my Nexus 6. I'd normally get 45+ Mbps but Speedtest app has been showing 15. What fixed it for me was going into the APN settings and changing the APN protocol to include IPv4. For me, without IPv4 would give Spotify issues. I recently flashed the System image which probably changed it back to IPv6 only (which is the default for some reason). As soon as I did this my speed went back up from 15 to 45. Switching the protocol between IPv4 and IPv6 was consistently affecting my LTE speed. Setting it to IPv4/IPv6 works as well.
Knowing that AT&T locks their bootloaders (bastards), I'd like to get a version with an unlocked bootloader that I can mod, swap ROMs, etc.
I've found lots of 32gb versions, but I can't find many 64gb versions out there except those that are ~$1200 and I just can't spend that.
Wondering how others are solving this and getting their hands on one that's AT&T LTE friendly...
Thanks!
edit: also, if you knew a model #, that would be helpful as I'm a bit confused on all the variations.

T-Mobile (N920T) is probably the best, simplest choice. you can sign up for new service, purchase at full price, root it, get it sim unlocked using a root method (search xda) or hassle with T-Mobile and then cancel once you have it SIM unlocked. N920I also works but it's an international model. i'm using the N920T and the dual-sim N9208 on att and both work flawlessly. search-xda is your friend, you'll find all the answers you're looking for. good luck

I bought an N920T for use on at&t. here is a lengthy discussion about the potential drawbacks to the missing bands when using a tmo on att. TL/DR; on that one is that you might not get service in the boonies using a tmo on att; i haven't ever had a problem with my tmo note 4 in over a year on att.
here is a guy that can provide free SIM unlock (he's fixing to do mine in about 2 hours. many have reported success with him.) in fact i bought a tmo phone under the premise he'd be able to help me, as TMO will make a big fuss about helping you.

thanks for quoting me; i had lost this thread, and there are updates:
there was nothing wrong with the process @stifilz used to unlock the phone. the problem was that my IMEI wasn't recognized by AT&T, so they wouldn't send me LTE service. but i got that straight.
it appears i use primarily bands 4 and 5 here.
ooo so band 17.. you are speaking about an AT&T phone huh?? that's not as good, as there is some debate as to whether or not a TMOBILE phone will receive at&t's band 17 correctly. i think i already linked that thread previously, so you might re-read that to see if it'll provide an issue for you.
cheapest, tho not the easiest, way for you to figure out if you'll have problems is to find a person using an unlocked TMO phone and put your sim card in it, and then see if it gets LTE (particularly band 17)

Good to hear. AT&T made that same mistake with my OPO. Always a chuckle when you know more than the service reps.
Yeah, I've been checking LTE discovery anytime I go anywhere different in DC and it's always band 17 which the TMO version doesn't have. There is band 4 here, but it's considerably less frequent and a much weaker signal. So, that likely means that I'll get spotty LTE service most of the time and have extra battery suck as it works to switch between LTE and 3G. Not sure it's worth it since I'm pretty constantly on the move...

Well there's a guy in a thread iposted about earlier in the Q&A section that spoke up to say his tmobile note 5 does connect to 17 all the time, I'm waiting on his response as to whether that's AT&T band 17 or t-mobile band 17. ( I don't know if there is a difference or if it makes a difference)

I think that's gotta be a mistake. According to TMO's site, it doesn't have LTE 17 and they're standard frequencies.
But, the question for me will be how strong LTE4 is. It might be enough. I'm trying to figure out how to disable 17 on my OPO for testing...

It should be fine if the basebands match.
Find the baseband of the network you want to use, (so for 3g I need baseband 2100 and for 4g I need 900)
In the link below you can then compare it to your model (I will assume its the same as the U version despite the KT)
If the baseband matches for 3g you will only get 3g or visa versa. Hopefully they will match for both 3 and 4g.

It should be fine if the basebands match.
Find the baseband of the network you want to use, (so for 3g I need baseband 2100 and for 4g I need 900)

Thanks for your reply.
On paper, this phone has all the necessary bands to work on TMobile USA but a test at one of their stores with an active SIM didn't have good results. Although the phone displayed LTE, outgoing calls took between 40 and 60 seconds to initiate dialing out, and SMS texts would not go out at all (or if they went out, they didn't arrive at destination phone).
I travel frequently to the UK so I was just hoping that this phone would work out of the box with a UK SIM with no need for mods....
How did you get this phone? I want one so bad.. the colors are so cool

I acquired it directly from an athlete.
I hope to make it work. If not, It may soon be available... (I hope it’s not against the rules to say that).
Seeing as the N950N is GSM device, you should have no issues using it with any UK cell provider.

Thanks, that would be my hope, though it didn’t bear out for TMobile USA, which is also a GSM network.

You would need to contact T-Mobile or visit their retail branch and have them add your devices IMEI# on their network. For some strange reason some networks require that...
It should work in the UK no problem. Go-to thr Samsung website and it shows all the bands for your specific model (950N) and cross reference it with the ones used in the UK. I think you'll find it's all there. No need to over think it.

Thanks. For some reason, although Tmobile USA has all of the required bands, this phone will not work properly on their network without mods.
The purpose of this thread was to hopefully get confirmation from anyone who is actually using an N950N on a UK network without mods.

I am using the same Olympic Edition phone in the UK no problem at all. I had to reset my network in order to get LTE working though. I was actually thinking of selling mine, but I decided to keep it and I absolutely love it and sold my iPhone instead!

Thank you, that is good to know. Which UK carrier are you using? I have a Vodafone UK sim, but if it doesn't work on that, I'll get a different one.
And what do you mean exactly by "I had to reset my network".... ?

I'm on EE but I haven't tried any other carrier, but I'm sure it would work the same.
What I meant by reset my network, go to settings - general management - reset - reset network settings and then I just reset my network that way and I got the LTE working that way. Let me know if this works for you on Vodafone

Ok great! Good luck, you will love the phone, I know I do! I just saw a teammate last night who was in Korea also, and he loves the phone as well! Let me know if that works!

Is it working ok for you? Also I have a question, what software version are you on? I'm on the Oreo update but still on the April patch? I am trying to see if anyone has a newer software patch that they have got. I find it strange that I haven't had any updates in 3 months.
Hi. I arrived in London on Sat 7/21... phone would only receive 2G (phone displayed E) and occasionally 3G. I stopped by Vodafone shop and they confirmed all settings were correct. I went across the street to EE and tried one of their sims, strong 3G but nothing better. As I was going to Cardiff for a few days, I used the Microsoft 950XL that I have which receives 4G and better (often displays 4G+).
Not sure what the next step is...
Regarding updates, the last one I got installed Oreo 8.0.0 and Samsung Experience 9.0 on May 24, 2018. Last security patch date is April 1, 2018.

Have you tried the reset network with the Sim in now you are in the UK? That sounds like what happened to me, would only get 3g until I would reset the network with the Sim in. I once tried to put in another Sim and when I put my EE Sim back in I had to reset the network again. I'm even in Germany now for the past week and I get LTE here as well.
Ok thanks, we are on the same security patch. But I would think that we would get updates that are newer than that. On Reddit people are already talking about getting thier July updates, while we are still on the April update.
My wife complains that she gets very bad reception with her unlocked s10. She didn't have this issue with her AT&T S8. Are there settings that I should change so that the phone works better on the AT&T network?
Similar issue, just using TMO. I sent feedback to Samsung regarding the U1's network perf, as well as other concerns. Keep in mind that software improvements can take months to appear in updates.

Try dialing *#*#4636#*#*
Then tap Phone Information, then Set Preferred Network Type to Global. This will take away LTE, but in my experience, I get a great HSPA+ signal. You won't notice a big difference in speed between HSPA+ and LTE, unless you are downloading big files.
I believe that this setting resets to the original setting when you reboot the phone. But just to be safe, take a screenshot of the setting before you change it. That way you can go back to LTE if you want.

The unlocked FW does not respond to this dialer code. That has been the case since the S8/N8. You'd need another way to access the testing menu.

On S10+ it ignores it. Could be from their carrier files for TMO.
Network app still works, guess the dialer was altered to ignore it by CSC.
I'm using the SM-G973U1 that I got from the States on the Telus network in Canada and I can confirm I also get poor reception. I get better reception with my GS7 Edge.
I didn't get great reception with my S9 while home and I believe my S10 unlocked may be worse. In certain rooms I'm not sure I could even make calls without wifi calling. My wife's Galaxy J7 gets 3 more bars than my S10.
Any idea if this is a general S10 issue? Debating whether to get the AT&T S10. Don't want to get it if it's going to have the same issue.
Good data and reception was the only reason for me to consider US snapdragon S10, glad I went with Exynos then as it can't be that worse.
I also faced the poor reception issue on unlocked S10+ with T-Mobile, but after flashing the T-Mobile firmware with odin the signal reception is very good. With T-mobile firmware now I'm getting at least 2 to 3 poles more, now I need too live with T-mobile bloat :crying:

Will you still recieve tmo OTA updates?
For any of you with bad reception, can you check the actual decibels (dB levels) for signal instead looking at the count of signal bars on unlocked U1 model?

You can keep u1 firmware and just flash TMobile modem. I did this with my S8 and S9 with ATT.

Just sitting in one spot and rotating the phone in various directions mine will range from - 117dBm to - 105dBm. I know exactly where the tower is I'm hitting and as long as the back of the phone points at that tower I'm good.

AFAIK OTA updates will be fine, to check this we need to wait until next OTA

When I was going through the Pie beta on my Galaxy S9, this was a concern that many of us voiced to Samsung support. We we're given a cookie cutter answer of "we will look into it". Don't get your hopes up.

Interesting.... do you have any others phones to compare to see how bad S10 signal levels are?
