Reverting to Stock - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys.
I have a phone that had a custom rom, but wanted to flash back to total generic stock rom (ie selling the phone), so that the user can get typical OTA updates.
I followed instructions and downloaded the generic AU ftf and flashed it, and it looked like it was back to a stock rom.. but then the system notified an update was available (good).. but the update failed with an error along the lines of this phone has been modified.
Did I miss something .. (do i need to do more than flash an FTF? ) Does the ftf have a stock recovery. ?
Thanks!

To make OTA work, relock your bootloader/restore TA (if you are already done that), unroot then flash full generic FTF for Z1 with stock kernel
And flash full FTF will revert the recovery back to stock

No Signal/IMEI After Flashing PAC Man Rom

I have searched countless of Forums and gone through Google alot and i still havnt found a solution yet, but coming from Stock Rom C6903_14.2.A.0.290 with Unlocked Bootloader and flashing PAC Man Rom in CWM succesful, but as soon as i get into the Rom, theres no Signal and i also checked my IMEI and it just says 0000000000...?? Is there anyway to restore the IMEI number to get the signal back somehow, or do i restore a Baseband or TA from another Stock Rom to get the signal/IMEI back..???

My Xperia Z1 encountered the same problem after flashing C6903 14.1.G.1.534 Generic UK 1276-0875_R9A. The IMEI was changed to 00000000000000.
Here is the solution: Flashing C6903 14.2.A.0.290 Generic AU 1277-0078_R2B via Flashtool will restore IMEI (I got back IMEI)

If you use flashtool to flash 4.3 ftf you will get problems like not having signal after flashing previous version (4.2) and the solution that worked for me is to reinstall software using SUS. After that I was able to get signal when flashing 4.2

Hi all,
Same problem here : upgrade to .290 and install the PAC ROM, the install is ok but no IMEI (so no connectivity). Is anyone know how to solve without losing the rom.
If I flash the original/stock ftf, it works again, but it's not the PAC ROM, so 1 win for 1 loss.
Thanks
Android 4.3 obviously changes something in the phone so that if you jump to another version it won't get signal or IMEI.
Anyway, the solution is simple.
Flash 290 and then 257. You'll get the signal and IMEI. If you want, you can go to 534 from 257 and then flash any ROM you want.
P.S: you don't have to flash 534, but you can do it if you want.
@Just2Cause
I unlock my BL so if I downgrade to 257, the camera will work or it will have the same "bug" as the 4.2 FW. after flashing to 257, do I need to stay on a 4.2 FW to keep the IMEI or can I flash the PAC ROM (which use a 4.3 FW) ?
Also, when I did the upgrade to .290 I use the sony companion app and it gave me no probleme (IMEI, call, sms was ok) it's specifically the PAC ROM that reset the IMEI. So I wonder what differs at low-level between the stock .290 and the PAC ROM, that can affect the IMEI
Tks
Download any .ftf (GENERIC is recommended) flash it using flashtool, and download the .ftf kernel for that specific ROM that you have flashed and flash it also using flashtool. i had the same problem downgrading from .290 to .534 i forgot to flash the kernel for .534 so i was stuck with IMEI 000000000.
Cheers

It's not the PAC ROM that resets your IMEI, I also got same problem when I downgraded from 290 to 534.
I'm afraid that you will lose camera (not sure, just maybe) after downgrading you will be able to install PAC ROM without any problem.
There must be something in Sony 4.3 firmware that needs to be ported to other ROMS so the camera gets fixed.
I got it working!
IDK if you guys have figured it out yourselves but here is what I did...
After unlocking my bootloader on .290 I flashed the latest nightly build of PAC-man. Same as you guys My IMEI number was 000000000.
So what I did was flash [NUT]'s .534 ftf for downgrading to 4.2.2 (found here: http://nut.xperia-files.com/files/C6903_14.1.G.1.534_[NUT].ftf.torrent) which brought back my IMEI number!
From there I rooted my phone again, flashed the boot.img for recovery, flashed the latest build of PAC-man and tada! Everything is working.
Flash the latest firmware(.757), flash doomlord's advanced stock kernel(not the main one), flash the rom of your choice from there that includes kernel (like PAC) and now it REALLY is working.
534 nut for c6902

On nut.xperia-files.com there is no 534 rom for c6902 its only have c6903
Is it fine if i flash C6903_14.1.G.1.534_nut to my c6902...
I also have the problem with network. Not with this particular build, but with all AOSP roms. "Formatting boot, system, cache, data, and everything you see" will help my phone not recognizing (or invalid) sim? Are there network drivers I can flash from zip? Sorry for asking this, but I don't want to flash again and spend 3+hours figuring stuff out and then finding out later I can't call.. I need network to work as calling is what makes my device a phone, not a tablet. Help would really be appreciated.
I've used...
-LiquidsmoothBETA3 kitkat
-Paranoid Android BETA7
-Slimkat
-AOKP kitkat
My current rom in use: 14.3.A.0.757 (NUT). I start the process by flashing 14.1.G.1.534 (NUT) then adding root (Bin4ry) and dual recovery (NUT) before going to AOSP roms.
Model number - C6903
Sim card - Tmobile pre-pay.
Quote from a Thread in XDA:
01. if u are coming from stock to AOSP then Downgrade to 4.2 .534 FW having Root and a Recovery ( but i think if u downgraded to 4.3 .290 FW then also it will do the trick )
02. Follow the instruction in OP with the recommended instructions - "After 5th point in Recovery go to mounts and storage and then Format boot, format system, format catche, format data, format everything u see.. Except SDcard1 (ofc).. And then move to 6th point."
If u flash .757 before coming to PA or any other AOSP ROM's then u might have trouble
As u have already done Step 01 then do a Clean reflash again with step 02.. hopefully it will solve ur problems

[Q] Firmware update without S-OFF by switching back to StockRom and Update?

Hi everybody.
my HTC one has Viper 5.8 running with S-ON and i like it that way.
I never updated the Firmware since i moved from the 4.2.2 stock rom. (i have nandroid backup of the stock rom)
I am a bit scared doing S-OFF "just" to update firmware, hboot and radio, I know it should be easy to do, but i just don't want to.
So i thought that maybe i can flash back to the stock rom, then make the offical HTC update to 4.3 sense 6 (should also flash newest firmware right?) and then unlock the bootloader again, flash twrp and custom rom again.
Would that work? Is there something i have to pay attention to?
thx for any help!!!!

Since you don't want S-Off, that is your best option. I would follow closely @Mike1986 [GUIDE] Complete Flashing Guide | Rooting | Going Back To Stock it is for those who are S-On.
Thanks, I will follow the guide.
But I have one more question:
Can I do the official HTC update from the htc stock rom while I still have custom recovery and bootloader unlocked?
Can't find any any info if there is any risk involved not changing back first to stock recovery and bootloader relocked before doing the update.
I guess recovery will be overwritten by the official update?!?
You need stock recovery and locked bootloader to take updates

you don't need a locked bootloader to get an official ota update, however, you do need to flash a stock recovery !!.
I went through the ota update method to update my firmware as for some reason my htc one wouldn't s-off and I felt that it wasn't running as it should on custom roms with the old firmware.
I started off with a flashable zip -4.06.1540.2,developer edition then ota updates, always doing a nand backup of rom.
always pull the stock recovery image from the ota before updating...
i'm now running 5.11.1540.9 firmware and all custom roms are running good...
if you google 4.06.1540.2 dev edition flashable zip you should find it,if not,i can upload it too somewhere for you...
an official htc ota update changes your firmware and installs a stock recovery..
its a bit long winded this way, but,it was the only way for me !!

First thank you for sharing your experience.
When you say "zip -4.06.1540.2,developer edition" then you mean the rom, correct?
Why would you pull the stock recovery from the OTA before updating? What would be the consequence of leaving it in?
...
so i would download the odexed stock rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48111304
and afterwards flash the according recovery.img, correct?
i guess it is no problem that my phone (and their for the bootloader) was not a developer edition

yeah,it's a full flashable rom, that can be installed by custom recovery, when I say pull the stock recovery,i mean copy it to a folder on your pc,always best to have the matching recovery for your stock rom.

[Q] Stock 757 firmware with root for CWM

Hi guys,
I've rooted my Z1, installed CWM and unlocked my bootloader (TA-backup present). Everything seems fine.
Exept for the fact that I cannot find a custom rom with the features i specifically want (as close to stock as possible, without bloatware, but with all the Sony Camera features) and therefore I would like to go back to the original 757 firmware that I had before I rooted my phone,
I do want to keep my CWM recovery, and need root acces (ie SuperSU)
I'm lookin for the Original Sony 4.4.2 757 rom which i can flash through CWM
Can anyone please help me?
Regards,
Tiemen
Edit: I see that theres a new 4.4.4 firmware. If possible I would like the stock rom for this one.

I'm not familiar with FTF files. I believe I need the flashtool for that, but I have no experience with it.
Will I lose CWM and Root functionality?

Certainly you will lose both root access and CWM when you flash
Search 'how to flash by Flash Tools' in your own language
Be warned that you will also all stuffs which are in Internal Memory, like files, messages, photos, movies, etc
Take a backup
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
Download the 4.4.4 stock firmware (FTF file) and flash via Flashtool. Ensure that you untick the Wipe data option in Flashtool, before you flash. This way, your user data will be intact after the flashing. And yes, you'll need to reroot (can use this tool) and install recovery again.
Thanks for your info!
I will start reading about the flashtool and will try asap.
Lets hope I won't get an expensive paper weight :silly:
If I want to go to full stock again (ie Relock Bootloader and no root), Do I need to flash FTF, then restore TA-partitions and I'm all done? Or do I need to root it before I can restore TA?

Tiemen

You'll need root before you can use the Backup-TA tool to restore. Do read the FAQ of the thread for the tool.
Hi guys,
I managed to install the original 108 fw through FlashTool.
Also using the root tool suggested I got my root access back!
Thank you guys for your support!
Now It's exactly to my liking!

[Q] Custom Recovery & OTA

Hello to the great people at xda..
Sorry for being a noob about it but i have certain questions about my c6902. First off my Z1 is rooted with the build number .157 with the stock os and the stock recovery. As of now i have been getting all OTAs without a problem. However, i would like to know what would happen if i install a custom recovery. Will it stop the OTAs? If yes, then which OTAs will it stop? Will it stop just the system OTAs or the application OTAs as well like walkman album etc.? Or will i just be able to see the available updates but would never be able to install them? And how can i revert back to the stock recovery? Would it make everything just as the way it was before with no strings attached? Sorry again for such a basic though as i couldn't find an answer anywhere else. Thanks a ton!

if your bootloader stays locked, you CAN recieve OTA updates, but if you rooted with towelroot (i expect that because your an .157, like me ) you wont be able to apply system OTA updates cause they can not be verified. but OTA updates for Walkman or other apps will work.
Only the system updates are broken with the towelroot method. but of course you can install a custom recovery to revert to stock recovery, just flash the ftf with flashtool again and you have your stock recovery back (but make shure to untick the wipe boxes in flashtool

Thanks a lot for the info . So I get what you're saying and 'tis true that I'm rooted with towel root. So that means that I won't be able to install system OTAs and that's ok. Also you already have been very helpful but would you be kind enough to please send me a link for the stock recovery's ftf? Have you successfully tried doing the same on 157?

There isnt a "recovery ftf", you have to flash the whole ftf all over it again and than you have stock recovery back
and yes i did the same on .157, i flashed this Baltic version: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_d8uWGbkaetRjFOYkZib0Z1Y1k/view?usp=sharing the baltic version works fine for me too, im from germany but i guess it should work (at least for european users) if you are not from europe, just flash .108 or .133 and update and root

Ok.. But what if I do a full system repair using the pc companion? Would it do the same thing? Also, would pc companion have any problems detecting or repairing the phone with the custom recovery installed?

Pc companion works too, but the system repair from pc -c will wipe your data! So all your data is lost.
With flashtool youcan decide if you want to keep your data or to do to a wipe

Oh thank-you so so much. You have been a great help

So no way to update firmware while rooted on P9P?

So since the firmware updates are not 'flashable' yet via TWRP, am I right in assuming that one can only update one's firmware if one goes back to stock?? I know this will change but trying to understand the current options for flashing/installing firmware updates for the P9Plus (rooted), thanks
just flash original recovery over twrp than update as normal, then flash twrp/root after that.
thanks, any idea where to get original recovery?
I found in twrp topic or you can find in Rayglobe tool
