[Q] Odin noob question - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a S4 active i9295 with 4.4.2 with 0x0 knox bit. I want to reinstall the original firmware on my phone. Will the Odin and the official firmware from SamMobile portal trigger the knox bit to 0x1 or it is safe the reinstall the phone?

Depending on version of bootloader you currently have. Here is best link to findings for S4 (not known what version of i9295 bootloader that has Knox feature)

Downgrade bootloader =trouble
List your current in CM/AOSP Terminal or ADB:
getprop |grep -i bootloader
Last 3 letters tell date in regular Samsung datecode, (Google it to learn)

I don't want to downgrade or update the firmware. I just want to reinstall it trough odin, flash the same version. Will it also trigger the knox bit to 0x1? And I noticed that i don't have 'KNOX WARRANTY VOID 0x0' on the downloader mode screen, i have just 'KNOX KERNEL LOCK 0x0' and nothing about Knox warranty bit. is it good or what?

It's not fair to camouflage your Q as noob. You've been around here since 2007 and like to have other do the research for you and serve you the answers.

Now, please follow the link I posted for you in first answer and read several posts. Hopefully you discover that "4.4.2 original" is not a single universal solution fit for any device. Perhaps check sammobile.com

I've read the thread You send me but, I found a root site seems to be official and proper. They say that:
"How does this KNOX Counter work?
Under what circumstances will KNOX Counter be flagged or tripped?
The KNOX Counter WILL NOT be flagged or tripped when using Samsung Kies or Odin to flash a stock ROM.
The KNOX Counter WILL BE flagged or tripped when you flash a third-party Recovery (like CWM/TWRP) or custom ROM."
Samsung KNOX Counter you should know
So that's why cannot understand which is true...

Yes
No. It's official rom. Only customs trigger.
i dont get it. if is an official samsung release why would that raise the flag. I've seen different opinions. some said that if is official the knox will stay 0x0.

OT Records Knox 0x0 or 0x1 indicates new bootloader, when you have old, you haven't any records about Knox. When you have 0x1 you are warranty off

ok. now i'm confused. if knox indicates new bootloader means that even if i update OTA the knox will be triggered. i mean kitkat 4.4.4 has a new bootloader. i think i'm getting it wrong.
I'm only interesting of your 1st question "If i flash the 4.4.4 german rom via Odin will knox be triggered to 0x1?" Because my brotheratlow flashed via Odin 4.3 on 4.1.2, an got new bootloader and told me got Flag 0x1 - warranty off. So I asked above "are you sure? @Rivalen1"
Additional information about knox and bootloaders:
- if you ever flash 4.3 or 4.4 via Odin or updated from OTA you have new Bootloader.
- if you bought your device and you dont know what bootloader you have, turn off your phone, reboot to download mode (hold power + volume down +home buttons) and when is there Knox flag 0x1 you have new and you are warranty off. When Knox flag is there 0x0 you have also new bootloader, but you are still in warranty and when you'll flash any custom recovery, you'll have then Knox 0x1 and you will be warranty off - so it's on your deciding. When isn't in download mode any records about about Knox, you still have old bootloader (btw congratulation ) and don't ever flash via Odin 4.3 and higher firmware - it's a pity.
Edit: now I'm reading here, that is true when it's official firmware via Odin, then knox warranty will stay on 0x0
Can somebody also confirm this?
"This is an official operation as Odin will be used for flashing the stock Android OS. Odin is a program developed by Samsung and used especially on update types of procedures. Also, Odin works only with Samsung branded devices. Thus, the warranty of your Galaxy S3 4G will not get void by applying the XXUFNI3 Android firmware. " This is what android geeks is saying.
Will you try it? If yes, leave here pls feedback . Thank you
original firmware downloaded from samsung(http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/) will NOT trigger knox. so happy flashing
@spiderman07 have you noticed bugs ? a general opinion compared to 4.3 pls.

Did you download the firmware from sammobile?
So i flashed 4.4.4 dbt firmaware. everything went fine. i noticed some changes...overall is good. I'll come back with a feedback after I test 'im a little. btw...knox remained 0x0 so after all oficial releases don't void knox warranty.

knox warrenty

hi guys
i have question , if i have vergin note 5 with knox 0*0 , and i want to change his official rom to another official rom by flashing with odin , my knox warrenty tripped or not???pls quide me
really TNX
What do you mean "official"? If you flash the stock rom of Samsung, your knox still stay the same. Otherwise, if you flash cooked rom, which is not provided by samsung originally (come from another developer), your knox will be changed and you will lost warranty also.

[HELP] Rooting Information for 5.1.1

I just managed to update to PA2 from OI5, and there is a root method available.
I have three questions:
Can I root my S5(AT&T) without tripping KNOX?
If I do root, can I update to the latest Marshmallow via Odin and keep root?
Can I "debrand" my S5 by flashing a stock S5 firmware via Odin (remove AT&T bloatware and bootlogo)? {http://www.naldotech.com/remove-carr...nded-firmware/ this link says you can but does not provide a download link}
Thanks.
Hm
I believe the root version existing does not trip knox as i'm still at 0x0.
No, but @AptLogic has been trying, never say never.
Once you get root, you can remove the AT&T logo by modifying some firmware files.
A quick search of the forums should give you the answers but here's a reference for the boot logo

SM-G973U Remove Branding

I apologize for the noob questions, so many thanks for your patience and time. I've searched through many of the S10 related forums, but I just wanted to confirm a few thoughts before I attempt a firmware change.
1) Bootloaders are not reverse upgradeable, so you cannot load an older bootloader, once you've installed a newer bootloader. In other words, once you upgrade to android 10, there is no going back to android 9. Correct?
2) I'd like to remove the current AT&T branding for my unlocked phone. I would do this by flashing the XAA firmware for a G973U1. Correct? Of course, per Q1, this would require the firmware to be at least as old as the firmware on the device currently.
3) If I'm successful with step 2 above, I would then get security updates from Samsung when they are released via Wifi or OTA, without requiring ODIN again. Correct?
4) I can do all this without tripping Knox or performing root, correct?

Question S21 Ultra CSC&Firmware - Region Change

Hi. I'm planning to buy S21 Ultra 5G at my trip. It is cheaper in there then my own country. I'm lucky, there and here using both Exynos SoC.
I was away from Samsung for a long time, as I remember Samsung was locking devices with CSC and Region based firmwares. That time Samsung Knox was not that expanded, as I see now it controls all system and builded top of it. I talked a bit now let me ask my question.
Is changing CSC blocks OTA? Or changing all firmware blocking OTA? I think odin is still around, Is using ODIN tripping Knox or blocking OTA? As I see Knox have 2 different fuse; one of them trips from custom firmwares&root other one trips from Odin with official firmware. Is that true? Actually my main question is, am I able to keep Knox untouched and OTAble after changing region.
Edit: It's not carrier locked.
Thank you.
csc transfer will not be blocked OTA if you transfer using samkey.
the use of odin for flash firmware does not trigger knox it is the custom recovery installation or root that triggers it.
Changing csc does not block OTA if you have not made any software modification (root & twrp).
Thank you for this post. Actually i have and exynos model too non carrier locked. My phone originally come in XSP firmware and service software provider is XSP too.. i have tried flashing XME firmware however that did not change my service software provider it's staying the same. I used odin to flash with.
