Unlocked Bootloader - Wiped System and RSDLite Doesn't Recognize my Device - Moto X Q&A

Unlocked bootloader with TWRP installed.
So I spaced and wiped my system partition. I was on 4.4.4 and so I downloaded the sbf for 4.4.4 Verizon XT1060, put my device in bootloader mode and connected to my PC. PC recognizes the Moto X. Start RSDLite, but RSDLite does not recognize my device.
I have my 4.4.4 TWRP backup on my PC but it is gone from my phone. I tried copying it to the TWRP folder on my phone using my PC but it wouldn't copy. Can I sideload it to get it on my phone so I can have TWRP restore from my TWRP back-up?
Thanks to all who help!!!!

Well even though RSDLite and my PC weren't recognizing my device while in bootloader mode, I was still able to use mfastboot to flash the 4.4.4 system.img. Now to restore my phone.

When I needed to use RSDlite I had to make sure I was using a USB 2.0 port on my computer, otherwise it acted like it was not there. I have no idea if this is the same case as you, but i figured i would give you my thoughts.

I believe you do not have to put the .IMG at the back of the files as they are already .IMG. Files
Are you using mfastboot?
The IMG file is in the same folder as mfastboot?
What are you typing in the cmd window

well i installed the minimal ADB and fastboot installer with the adb and fastboot files in the zip, i extracted and installed, plug phone in USB debugging active, i type in command adb devices, get confirmation of device then type adb reboot bootloader, phone boots into bootloader, once in bootloader i type, fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img after which i get the error message, also when the file is saved, the .img is not there, ive done it as is and adding the .img to the end with the same result

and look at the guide for unlocked bootloaders it should walk you though how to get it done correctly because you are spouse to use
MFastboot not fastboot.
alright, i got twrp installed, use mfastboot and had to add the .img to the end of the file, so i now have twrp installed, backups made and saved to my computer for the just in case, i hace access to twrp through rom manager, i am wondering if i can flash cwm using rom manager, the reason i ask is ive always used cwm with all my other phones and i just like using what i know and am comfortable with it, will i fudge everything up trying to use rom manager to flash cwm rather than the fastboot method.
p.s. thank you for the link and advise

VZW Moto X dev rooted. go back to stock recovery?

If I go back to the stock recovery from TWRP will I still be rooted? I'd like to go back to stock recovery for the remote-wipe capabilities of android device manager.
Thanks
I don't personally know the method, but yes you can restore the stock recovery and still be rooted. Its on the forum here somewhere.
Just know that feature will put a drain on your battery life. Just a heads up.

take the recovery image from the fxz plug your phone into your pc with usb cable. Put the phone into fast boot open a command prompt to where you have the recovery.img and type into the command prompt.... fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and you have the stock recovery back.

[Q] Only boots to bootloader or recovery, no fastboot

Hi guys. I recently flashed a boot image via the Flashify app, which had worked in the past. After it flashed, I chose to reboot. Now my phone boots to the bootloader. I can't get fastboot to recognize my device on any PC (which is why I was trying another hboot). I can boot into recovery (cwm touch for now) but restoring roms etc. fails due to "no files found". ADB detects the phone in recovery. Can I repair my phone via adb without fastboot? I had a recent cwm and titanium backup on my sd card.

are those computers all windows 8? There some issue with windows 8 and fastboot. better to use 7, linux or mac.
you can restore a backup or install a rom using adb, no need to use fastboot (except for recovery, RUU and firmware flashing)
you can transfer a rom to your sdcard using adb from custom recovery:
Code:
adb push name_of_rom.zip /sdcard/
I recommend you to use twrp 2.6.3.3 instead of cwm (required for arhd rom i.e) when you get fastboot working again.

I am stuck in the same boat - I can't use fastboot., but I need it to flash a new recovery before updating to cm11. I don't have access to any Win7 computers to use, only have Win8.1. Are there updated drivers for the HTC One yet? Or any way to get fastboot working properly on Win8.1?

windows 8.1 doesnt work with early hboot version like 1.44 and if irc 1.54.
if you can't access another computer, use a live cd of ubuntu 12.04 32bit (no installation required, only boot from the disc or from a bootalb usb drive) and use fastboot from there.

So is it possible to upgrade my hboot to 1.55 (currently 1.54)?
EDIT: Ok, actually, examining things, it looks like this should work:
a) Go to Ubuntu for fastboot, flash new recovery
b) Back to windows, into recovery, wipe everything, push ROM over using adb, clean install of cm11
c) new cm ROM will include updated hboot so fastboot will now work in Win8.1
....that seem logical/like it should work to you? Thanks

yes except c)
a rom doesn't update firmware so hboot will not be updated by flashing a custom rom. If you want to update hboot you must do it via an ota update, a complete ruu install (higher version) or manually flashing the firmware using fastboot. with s-on, you must use signed firmware only (the correct version for your device) and you bootloader must be locked or re-locked to flash it (s-on)

Wow, ok, I think that sounds like far too much effort to just update my phone. Guess I'll use the ubuntu fastboot trick once, then just hope I never need to flash anything from fastboot again on this phone. Why is it always such an effort with these damn things? Thanks for the help, won't have a chance to try this for a couple of days but doubtless I'll be back with some other failed horror scenario then.

Yeah, that's pretty much the extent of what I knew, but I really appreciate your response. I did manage to get my old Win7 laptop running and with some effort got all the drivers working. I used htc1guru reset, but sadly I did lose the entire contents of my SD, despite its message that nothing would be touched. :-/ Luckily, most photos were auto-backed up by G+ and it's just a few settings and such that I can't get back or figure out. Least of my concerns after having a functional phone!

the answer is always the same, in the same folder you have adb in.
so in ubuntu it should be androidsdk/platform-tools/

[Q] Need help with TWRP boot loop

Boot loop
Moto x 1060 rooted on 4.2.2 with TWRP 2.7.7.1 installed. I tried to restore. TWRP says restore completed but when I try to reboot into the loop I go. I can access TWRP but nothing else. I have two TWRP recoveries but neither works. My computer doesn't see the phone when connected, so I can't flash. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

why do u tried to restore if u have TWRP??
try to put in fastmode and flash the firmware again clean
or put in twrp and wipe cache, userdata and dalvik cache
hope that helps u
When I restore with TWRP it shows successful. Then when I boot it goes into a loop. I have 2 recoveries and they both do that. MY computer does not recognize it so I cannot flash.

Your computer should recognize it in fastboot mode (NOT TWRP) - you need to be the bootloader screen (AP Fastboot Mode). Follow the guide in general "Return to 100% stock" to flash the entire SBF for your carrier. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DOWNGRADE. Only flash the version you are currently on or higher.
Everything you need is in that thread, including the necessary drivers. If your phone isn't getting recognized it is either because you do not have the drivers installed, OR you are trying to connect when booted in to TWRP. Once again, this is wrong. You restore using your PC from the BOOTLOADER screen, NOT TWRP.
101
When I am in boot loader mode and try to connect with RSD Lite the phone is seen as "fast boot" connected but nothing I flash works. I have done this before and the phone was recognized but after installing TWRP it is not, nor can I flash anything, it says failed.
Thanks Sam. I got RED lite to work and all is well. Again, many thanks

I cannot flash or install SuperSu or TWRP. I don't really want to install TWRP because that caused the original problem. I need SuperSu but when I try to install it says "there is no SU binary installed". Phone says device is unlocked and Status code 3 and I get the bootloader unlocked warning screen. Should I reflash 4.2.2 and start over?

TWRP does not cause problems - likely your issue was un-related. You cannot install SuperSU without TWRP. You do need to flash TWRP - use the latest version from here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/ghost
After you flash it, type: fastboot reboot-bootloader and immediately boot into TWRP. Click exit and it will offer to root for you.
If you insist, you can flash stock recovery back on afterwards which will remove TWRP.
