internal, "USB" memory and SD

Dear all. I believe that the amounts of memory available in our beloved Ace is completely unacceptable. The device has a nice processor, plenty of ram but users cannot instal bigger apps. There are also problems with fabulous apps like Wimp, which however don't let the user (maybe due to to some copyright protection or synchronization with PC) to save media on SD card but only in USB memory.
Developers, please help and write a tutorial for dummies. Thanks!

Saving memory trick

Hi all
I wanna thank This Forum For Helping me to Mange all my Android Phones And Tablet That I'm using..
Recently I Manged to Make my wife to use An android phone ( Samsung ACE s5830i ) as a first step to make here a fan of android Samsung instead of NOKIA
i found a big problem that happened with me before that the internal memory is very small and i couldn't install so much programmes from the store so i used an old trick that i used be4 with my android VPAD 7 which is:
1. make root to the phone ( you will find it in the development section)
2. i used a 4 GB microSD card formatted it to 2 partions primary FAT32 ( the 2nd one is 1024 mb).
3. put it on phone and install the LINK2SD program from the market. when it 1st open it will ask for the second portion type choose FAT32.
4. it will relink many files the belong to the internal memory to the SD card and also you can install the proggrames to the SD card but not all programes the supported ones
this will save alot of space on the internal memory
I hope that Help

Try searching first, tho - if you find none, go ahead! If you do, and think it's important to bring it back to attention, feel free to share it in the off topic thread, or bump the topic with new information (a note that you're aware of bumping and doing it for a good reason is usually a good idea).

I was one of the users of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini domiciled from Indonesia, precisely in the province of Lampung.
I am very difficult to move data applications and games that are in Internal memory, I want to move it to an external memory / sd card. * remember, my gadget is Samsung Galaxy s3 Mini.
All these apps which you mentioned above will work only if you root your phone..
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
You can't move the applications to external sd
The internal & external sd`s are emulated, so it's impossible to do that
But you can use ApkExtractor from Play Store to extract the apk's to your sd
I hope I helped you

How did Samsung partition the Note (N7000 16GB)?
Code:
[FONT=Comic Sans MS][SIZE=4]CACHE: Start:54.5MB End:264MB Size:210MB[/SIZE][/FONT][FONT=Comic Sans MS][SIZE=4]
FACTORYFS: Start:281MB End:1174MB Size:893MB[/SIZE][/FONT][SIZE=4]
[FONT=Comic Sans MS] DATAFS: Start:1174MB End:3322MB Size:2147MB[/FONT]
[FONT=Comic Sans MS] UMS: Start:3322MB End:11.9GB Size:11.9GB[/FONT]
[FONT=Comic Sans MS] HIDDEN: Start:11.9GB End:15.8GB Size:537MB[/FONT][/SIZE]
As you can see, the DATAFS partition only has 2147MB, hardly enough for much games or resource heavy apps. e.g. Facebook (30~100MB) Spotify (100~300+MB), and so, we need much more space to store these apps.
People might redirect you to download .pit files and ODIN, but as always, using ODIN is, to say the least, quite risky. Well, this method does NOT require ODIN, cables or a computer!

Now that I've got everything clear, let's get into the juicy stuff...
This file basically reduces the space assigned to cache and preload partitions and reassigns that extra space to your internal sdcard.
What is preload?
Used for storing Samsung's pre-loaded bloatwares like some wallpapers and "Wonders of Nature" video that you find on your phone after a factory reset or after buying a new phone.
Reducing the cache partition:
Cache basically stores the apps from Google play while they are downloading. Google Play apks has a maximum size of 50MB, so reducing it won't matter.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
What To Download?
If your ROM does not use /preload to store any files, download the file with the tag (Non-Preload ROMs).
Download Partition Table app from the Play Store and check /preload. If it has more than 100MB used, your ROM needs preload.
If you need more apps than data (documents, music etc.), download the 10/11GB Data Partition files.
If you need more data than apps, download the 9GB UMS Partition files.
How do I do this?
It's like flashing any ordinary zip file! Follow the steps to not brick your phone!
Downloads are at the bottom of the post.
Your computer will not be needed for this guide!
Download Philz recovery. Use the latest stable version available. Check here.
Make a nandroid backup to your EXTERNAL SD CARD. Make sure this backup is working.
Flash Philz from recovery.
Flash the zip file. (Currently only 16GB model)
After rebooting to recovery (it's auto), you will see some mounting errors. Relax, nothing's wrong. Go into mounts and storage and format /system, /data, /sdcard0 and /preload. Do not format anything else.
Restore your nandroid/install a new ROM (You can flash your original recovery back now.)

Great Job @Irwenzhao !!!
Now we can safely do partition without having to risk odin. An advice though, I think it's not allowed to post direct download link to philz.. Have u asked for permission? Or maybe you should just state what vers. of recovery is to be used and post a link to philz thread? Just a friendly reminder. Thank you for your hard work. Cheers!

It looks like the OP didn't test it on a N7000.
And until now no member risked to install it.
Understandable not only because of this risk (untested app).
Who really need this? Simple cleaning of apps is a much better approach.
And there ist a good chance of additional problems when installing other roms (stock or custom).

You'll be surprised how much storage gets eaten up on Kit Kat using ART. I have a lot of apps - over 3.5gb worth of app data. I don't have a single game installed and it's running as clean as possible.
I want to do this to my N7000 but I'm a little tentative. Then again, the OP seems to know what he's doing.
Edit: Tried to flash using the latest Phillz Recovery (6.41.6) and it throws an error saying it cannot be flashed (Status 255). This is with 5GB/9GB data partition zip with preload.

Yea sorry I don't have a N7000 to test on, but I researched as much as I could before releasing it. If anyone has an extra n7000 to test it(I doubt it), I would appreciate it very much
There are some people who needs loads of apps, but if you do think that clearing apps is a better approach, go ahead. I doubt there'll be any risks in installing a custom ROM (I've checked the sizes of CM and some others (AOSP)) and they all fit into the system partition nicely. Flashing stock ROM does not work. You'll have to flash a .pit file in order for a stock ROM to be flashed. Thanks for taking your time to voice your opinion.

I agree, since ART doesn't use JIT compiler.
I suggest doing a little research first, but there aren't many pages on re-partitioning with recovery, considering only Philz can do it.
Now that u mention ART, I should probably switch soon considering xposed doesn't work for me

Not enough space for new apps cm11

Hello
Im on latest cm11 (i used partition table tool-optimal) and I have about 400+mb of free memory on my intrernal sdcard.
However, I can't install new apps (not from store nor from file manager), it says i dont have enough of space.
What can i do with it?
Thanks
Try run ng cm cleaner, I had a similar issue where when flashing from stock my cache didn't get wiped for some reason and took up all my memory, ran cm cleaner and cleared out the cache giving my memory back, also just check the files saved in storage, ROMs and backups can take a lot of memery, best to save them on the sdcard.

Statements like this are considered abusive and ARE NOT condoned here at XDA-Developers.
Now, you've done something that is not a standard practice to do, and that's repartitioning your device. This is extremely risky and honestly more than likely the culprit of your current dilemma.
Did you just install CM11? If so, did you follow the installation instructions in the OP? And a thousand more questions that I could ask in an attempt to help you out of your situation. Always include as much information as possible when asking questions like this.
