[Q] Z3 Vs Compact battery and screen - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

which one has best battery?
the reviews have confused me which one has best battery...
Screen 720P compact is good?

1. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sony...us-to-the-era-of-two-day-battery-life_id60955
2. Even tiny font sizes are very well readable on this screen. I was impressed :good:

720p on a 4.6" screen is very sharp and you will never see the difference with 1080p during normal use (as in, not holding the phone an inch away from your face)

Agreed, the Z3C screen is pin-sharp as it is, you'd need a magnifying glass to see any flaws.
On the other hand, color calibration is way off (and can't be properly corrected with Sony's 'fake' white balance tool) and this may bother some people a lot. Personally I've got used to it now, and am happy if this is the main trade-off for better battery life and daylight visibility, as that's more important to me in a phone vs a tablet.

good, i'm happy to hear 720p on Z3c is good

AMOLED, Super AMOLED or LCD/TFT

I've heard so many mixed perspectives.
The way I see it, S-OLED should be the best in the bunch.
Followed by OLED and then TFT..
I've heard about the nexus display looking "unnatural" from engadget, whatever that means..
Some people are saying that the upcoming sprint evo 4g has a brighter and simply better (4.3") screen.
Apart from the size, the screen technology is just TFT.
In the computer LCD world, i have heard more bad than good about TFT, so what's the deal?
Right now I have a 24" 1080p TFT LCD Monitor, and I think it's beautiful.
I haven't had much to compare it to though.
It's not the greatest screen I've seen, but it's definitely nice.
I have both an HD2 and a Nexus One. The HD2 has a 4.3" TFT display and looks gorgeous. It doesn't have a very defined pixel grid look that you can see if you stare at your Nexus One up close, so it looks more blended.
On the flip side, the Nexus One's vibrancy is hands down better. While watching movies on the HD2, I loved the size of the image, but to be honest, I prefer the color of the Nexus One's screen.
Outside in the sunlight, the HD2 wins. It still gets horrible glare, but no where near as bad as the Nexus One.
With all of that being said, I prefer the Nexus One's screen. Not going to talk about the size differences and their pros and cons, because that's a separate subject altogether. I'm mostly indoors for my job, and being a graphics designer, I enjoy the contrast that the OLED screen can deliver. It's not exactly color accurate, but since this is a phone and not being used as a design device, it doesn't matter...it looks gorgeous. So long as people don't appear as orange aliens, I enjoy the contrast. (Go stare at some of the TVs on display in major retail stores...they jack the contrast up to ridiculous levels to try to wow the viewer, but make things look downright stupid)
I see, that's pretty much like I expected.
The OLED displays will have a more pixel grid display because each pixel is actually a tiny LED. For me that's fine, as long as its not blatant.
So then the best choice would probably be AMOLED that's good in sunlight aka super amoled.
Have you tried playing with the brightness in the sunlight?
I haven't actually experienced an amoled screen yet, but i would think that if you turned the brightness up to max it would like quite okay in the sun.
At least that's how my G1 (TFT LCD) was.
Thanks for the input btw!
From the start I could not understand the positive voices for the AMOLED display. I had a Galaxy and I hated it. Now I have the Nexus and I hate the UNNATURAL colours. They are ghastly! If I had the choice between a Nexus with TFT or AMOLED screen I would certainly pick a TFT.

isnt the supersonics screen a little brighter and more vibrant than the hd2? it sure seemed soo in the pictures and videos i saw
I have the two available high-end android devices - the Milestone (GSM version of the Droid, though with non-unlockable bootloader :-( ) and the Nexus One.
The 'stone has a 854x480 TFT, and the N1 has an 800x480 AMOLED.
Inside, the N1 screen wins - it is incredibly bright, less battery hungry, and has notably better contrast. The Milestone is good, but the N1 is better.
Another N1 advantage is that, even though both screens are 3.7 inches, the milestone is taller and narrower in portrait mode, making the portrait-mode keyboard harder to use for those of us with freakishly-large hands.
Outside, however, it just isn't even close. The Milestone is the best color screen I've ever seen on a large screen phone under bright light. It is absolutely usable in bright sunlight - you can take photos, check out a youtube video, read your RSS feeds, tweets, maps, whatever with absolutely no problem at all. The N1 is almost unusable in direct sunlight - there is just too much glare from the substrate and touch layers. And if you are also wearing sunglasses, forget it, you can't see a thing. Even an iPhone 3GS or iPod Touch (3rd gen) are mush less readable in bright conditions than the Milestone.
Samsung's new S-AMOLED is meant to bond the touch layer into the AMOLED surface directly, taking out a glare / difraction / etc. layer, and making the screen good in bright light. I have my doubts that it will be as good as a strong TFT in those conditions, but we'll see. It will certainly be thinner, better indoors and less power hungry
I don't have yet a N1 but I had the samsung Jet back in fall ,it had an amoled screen. It was quite good under sunlight, colors are washed out but you can clearly read SMS text or use the menu.
Now playing games in summer at the beach at 12am...forget about it and try take spy pics of string gurls with your 5mp

Yeah, even with the Nexus One set to 100%, the readability is around the HD2 with 50-60% brightness outside. Thankfully it is only a problem in direct sunlight.

I believe they are the same screen in both devices, but could be wrong. We'll have to wait until they can do a proper side by side with the exact same lightness settings.
A 4.3" Super AMOLED screen would be nice. I would never buy a phone with a bigger display than that, because it would become uncomfortable to use, and at that point, you might as well just buy a tablet.

I would suggest you have a screen that is defective if it has really noticeable colour deviations.
Obviously it's not a properly colour calibrated display, but everything looks perfectly natural on mine (skin tones etc), with no significant over saturation or hue shifts.
yeah, I'm a big outdoor guy and not looking forward to dealing with this screen outdoors....sucks.
Whatever happened to transflective technology...loved that on my old tilt.
Guys, aren't there screen cover/protectors that deflect or whatever and that make the screen readable in sunlight?
thanks

There are anti-glare protectors that help eliminate some of the glare by dispursing it better, but even then it's still pretty bad. The main issue is due to having no backlight like a TFT.

No, there is nothing wrong with the colour calibration. Girlfriend has also got a Nexus and I have seen others and even on photos here on the internet you can see the unnatural colours of the screen.
Have a look at the first post where you can find the question, if it were true that the colours are unnatural referring to Engadget. And yes, the colours are unnatural. I like the Nexus, do not get me wrong, but I do not like the colours of AMOLED screens. They are awful.

There are definitely protectors that do that, but I don't like the feel of anything but glass on a touch screen.. That's just me though.
Hey I noticed in your sig that you have an iphone and nexus, how would you compare the two? The screen and everything else (you should make another thread for that though).

Damn that's pretty bad, cause with the TFT on my G1 I always had to turn it up to max to get a decent display.
So assuming the HD2 is similar (same technology), then AMOLED must be pretty bad in sunlight.

I know the AMOLED's are pretty great indoors, but when you say incredibly bright... If viewing late at night in bed for example, is it too bright even on the lowest setting?
I'd like a phone that can be very dim or very bright.

Have you compared side-by-side? I can't believe that they're THAT bad.
Yes, I have. I do it all the time, as I have still a G1 to compare the Nexus with. If it is "THAT bad" I can't say only that I do not like it and that I would certainly prefer a TFT if had the choice.
Why do you think did the guys from Engadget think the colours to be "unnatural"?
In the end it might not matter that much as it doesn't reduce the functions of the gadget. Other people might even like it, I do not.

You seem to put a lot of faith in what Engadget says. I'm not saying that everything is perfectly flat, but I have a few hundred perfectly-exposed photos from my Nikon D90, all taken with pro glass, on my Nexus, and the colors are not bad at all. They are, well, let's call them "well saturated", but nothing remotely unpleasant - to be honest, given the tiny screen (I take photos be be blown up BIG), the saturation is probably an advantage. And they look notably, even considerably better on the N1 than on an iPhone / iPod touch third-gen.
All of that is my opinion - and I like saturated colors. But I also like skin that still looks like skin, and the N1 delivers that to my eyes.
Gee, didn't I say that it is my opinion and that others might think differently? What you call saturated colours I call unnatural and for me and maybe only for me the colours are an eyesore, but I like the Nexus nevertheless.
big_adventure, you gave me a thought.
I think the best way to really compare these technologies is to have the same image of something, like a HQ picture of your skin.
On both of the phones.
Then compare the output to eachother and to the real life color of your skin.
I said to compare to eachother because a cameras snapshot can change the color, flash, settings, and what not.
Sounds stupid, but maybe what some people define as unnatural on a display, is actually quite natural.
Don't compare how the android OS looks, compare an image within the OS.

Well, if you are going to be wandering around a beach at midnight you probably won't run into too many girls to take pictures of. And they'd probably notice the flash going off so it wouldn't be much of a "spy shot".
(Edit: To be fair, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12-hour_clock#Confusion_at_noon_and_midnight mentions that am/pm by definition don't make any sense for noon and midnight and are thus often confused. But, the sources it quotes that do assign meaning to 12am and 12pm all seem to call 12am midnight and 12pm noon. It's probably why most of the parking signs in SF are now starting to use "12:01am" when they want to talk about late night street cleaning restrictions...that, and the fact that 12am is also ambiguous as to whether it refers to the start of a day or the end of a day...)

Sony Xperia T - my review

Now that I had enough time to play with the Sony Xperia T, I can give you my impressions about the new flagship phone of the Japanese manufacturer. There are already a lot of reviews and comparisons on the Internet so I will just tell my personal feelings about the phone. From the beginning I have to tell you that I am not a Samsung fan (although they do great hardware, the design is crap and the interface is ugly) nor an Apple fan (as some say it is built for people with average to low IQ).
Coming back to Xperia T, the size and weight are OK, even though some people are complaining is heavy, I don’t have that problem, it fits well in my pocket. The material on the back side is also good, having good adherence with your hands. Power and volume buttons are placed on the right side (well placed for right handed people, I am not sure if left handed people are confortable with this).
Camera is one of the best features the Xperia T is having, you can shoot great pictures in 13 megapixels. What really stands out is the speed of the camera: in lock mode you can press the camera button and in less than 1.5 seconds you have the first shot. Don’t worry, the camera button is not easy to press in the pocket.
USB port supports also HDMI output and I was able to connect a USB to HDMI adaptor from Samsung to connect the phone to the TV (your TV must support HDCP). You need to connect the charging adaptor in order for this to work (but I guess this is the same for the Sony TV dock) and will keep you the phone charged. The good thing is that I have a Bluetooth keyboard (with touchpad) that I can connect to the phone and while connected to the TV i can really use the phone as normal PC! This feature probably works with other phones as well. Video output is 1080p so the quality on phone screen and TV is great. If you want to connect the phone to the car USB (for charging the phone or playing the music) you need to set USB to Mass Storage mode (MSC) in Settings - Xperia - Connectivity - USB connection mode.

I have had my SXT since saturday now and I think it is a great phone but there is quite a few negative points it has.
So let me get to them:
*the camera still has that issue of being slow to focus sometimes and in video aswell which means you still miss shots which really jarred me when i had the sxs.
*the speaker for earpiece and loudspeaker should have been louder as outside you cant hear the phone ring and you can barely hear what people are saying on the phone
*you can barely see the notifcation light unless the phone is directly infront of you
*Battery life is average, doesnt last a day under moderate usage, lasts about 20 hours

I actually like the fact that notification LED light is low with my Arc it was like a night lamp.
20 hours are enough for one day. During night I'm always charging the phone
For the earpiece and loudspeker I have to disagree, at least I didn't have such issues. for ringing I am using also vibrating mode
Earpiece and speaker seriously could be louder and the notification light could have been better, in these three aspects they have taken a backwards step from the xperia s imo.
As I use headsets for calls anyway phone calls isn't a issue.
The ARCs notification light was stupid as it was on the side of the phone which imo was pointless also.
Other than that I really enjoy my SXT.

I agree. I also barely see that notification light. On XPERIA S when I put it on charger notification light was lighting like flash. I had to cover it over night because notification light was so bright. Maybe something between notification light on XPERIA T and XPERIA S would be good.
When the light is poor camera is slow on focus almoust every time but outdoor over day everything is OK.
Everything else is excellent and no complaints.

Thanks for the info on the camera focus, however I wish SONY would fix that because my HOX focuses straight away in low light and so did the S3. Also I didn't mind the brightness of the LED on the xperia s, the sgs3 or my hox. I like it like that means I can just look over at my phone and see if i have a text or something at night as my phone has to be on silent as not to wake my daughter. As it is I have to pick the phone up and check.
Aside from that yea I really love my SXT and am looking forward to the Yuga or whatever it is going to be called.
hi. Im currently using HTC One V and planning to buy HTC One S, but unfortunately HTC One S in my region is theSnapdragon S3 version. so I'm thinking to buy this phone instead. one thing that bothering me is that it doesn't have a Gorilla Glass display (plastic body is OK). so my question is the Shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass on it's screen is as durable as Gorilla Glass screen? I like the phone in general. the other things that I like about this phone are community suport, official CM support etc.

It sort of is. The screenprotector (shatter-proof sheet) that is on there by default scratches easier than Gorilla Glass, but the glass itself is really quite durable!

thanks for the reply. do you think the phone still requires an additional screen protector? and what about a case/soft jacket etc, since the back cover is plastic, do you think it needs a case? (I'm afraid to squeeze it in my jean's pocket), but I can put this on my jacket though to prevent that. I'm going to buy it tomorrow (3 youtube videos make me love this phone):good:.
The Xperia T is the first phone where I've ever used the stock keyboard it comes with... I think its brilliant and so easy to type on.
There's lots of things I love about the phone, I do wish the notification LED was bigger however but meh... some phones don't even have one!
Thanks for the mini review of the Xperia T. I'm itching to purchase this baby, but will wait a few more days. The Xpera T will be an upgrade in terms of smartphone OS transition. Coming from a Nokia N8 handset, I don't feel the XT will be a huge upgrade seeing how the N8 is still the best camera phone as of this day and the 13MP on the XT, as stated by many reviews, just isn't that great (camera quality and dedicated camera button are huge decision makers for me).
Heck, every friend who played with my N8 thought it was running Android OS. :victory:
In terms of speed, I probably won't notice the lag even if lag was present if I were to compare it to the N8.
LED notification; the N8 notification light is horrible. I can definitely live with the "poor" notification light on the XT if it's significantly more noticeable than the N8.
Anyways, nice review.

Hi. Wellcome aboard N8 refugee. Been using it for about 7 hours now. You will not notice any lag whatsoever. The Krait processor is awesome. I bought this phone just because it has Snapdragon S4 processor, I don't use camera that much. The notification light issue is not a big deal for me.

My Xperia T still hasn't arrived (FedEx ) but my Xperia S has the same display type and I'd never cover it with yet another screen protector.
Just use it as it comes. The default screen protector will last you quite some time. I've had my Xperia S since the day of release, 8 months now and my display is still near-perfect. When you've got scratches on the display you just remove the "shatter-proof sheet" and replace it with your own screen protector and your display is as good as new!
Again, no experience with the T, but on my Xperia S the (probably significantly less rough) back got some glossy spots from the friction in my pockets. But the material is completely different so I can't say how the T will fare here...

Guys,
My wife is still using the X10 with the original screen protector. It is very good. I did the mistake to remove it from my old X10 and no other screen protector was good enough. But the screen was excellent even without screen protector. My advice is to keep it there, I have it on the Arc since 1.5 years and it's still OK.

Keep or Cancel my pre-order

As the title says!
Ordered a Z1 a wee while ago, and now, after having read some reviews am considering cancelling it - Are the reviews a load of cobblers, what do folks think.
Negatives (from reviews)
- Poor battery life
- Camera that fails to live up to expectations, over zealous post processing leading to poor, over compressed images
- Scratches very easily - does it even have Corning Gorilla Glass front/back?
- Nasty Sony UI overlay (not to bothered about this, I'll choose my own shell)
- Massive bezel compared to competition
- Bezel raised at edges meaning front surface not flat, difficult to clean + a dust magnet
- Rear glass is a finderprint magnet
- Screen issues - not good in bright sunshine (worse than AMOLED), viewing angles not great (image washed out at an angle)
Positives (from reviews):
- Good build quality
- Waterproof
- dedicated camera button
- performs well in low light
- Bundled with geeky smartwatch
- powerful processor
- Takes a micro SD
- Speaker seems half decent
If I do cancel then a Galaxy S4 is the other option. Ruled out LG G2 due to no micro SD card slot, ruled out HTC One for no SD card slot, and low megapixel camera (I like to have an image that's big enough for cropping).
Comments?

I have seen sample which were beautiful. About the fingerprint magnet and bezel. You should have known about this design before preordering. Not a negative at all. It called design preference. And there's no issue with the screen. It's definitely make brighter than AMOLED.
You must be reading too much CNET. I suggest you read the preview from GSMArena. Much more fair and balanced.
Z1 very good

Actually, the above was a summary of what I had read from MANY review sites - and yes, CNET was one of them, and the most negative, but if it aint apple they don't like it anyway!!
I like the look of the design, fingerprint magnet can be fixed by adding a case, but the device is already pretty bulky.
I'm just not sure why they went for glass front/back when other manufacturers have moved away from it. The back on the zperia Z tablet looks just as classy as glass IMHO, and the HTC one is way more classy, esp in black, and that has an alu back.
HTC One best fits my design language, but does not fit my need for a decent megapix camera and an SD card slot. At the moment, Z1 comes the closest to delivering all my wants, and Samsung S4 second, but I don't like £450 plasticated phones! Like all devices, one weighs up the pro's and con's and buys the one that ticks the most boxes.
I'm told that mine wont be delivered until 1st Oct (due to the accompanying watch being delayed). I will have a chance to play with one in a shop before then.
Nigel
cancel the preorder, go play with the device once it hits the store and then decide. Reviews are just for reference, and every one preference differs. I did not pre order as i want to see the device once and play with it for sometime, and see. I want to do the same with G2 and then will decided between one of the two. S4 has an old proc i would rather suggest Note 3 to you.

Battery life is ok
camera is good... use manual settings for better shots
Sony ui is simplistic.. and you can get replacement home screen from playstore
The retail unit has god display so do not worry there.
other issue can be minimised by using a good front and rear screen protector..

Really not a fan of screen protectors - always end up with at least one lump of dust under the screen - make it look naff! Current phone is a Galaxy Note 1 (almost 2 years old). Never had a screen protector, in daily use on my commute, and screen is perfect. I expect the Xperia Z1's screen to be no less durable than this. If I am going to have to cover this up to protect it from scratches then gone is its beauty - and I might as well have bought an S4 and stuck that in a TPU case!
Nova is my favoured UI. I use it on my Galaxy Note 8. Owning the Note8 is why I am not in the market for a note 3. The 8" screen on the note 8 makes the stylus far more useful than it is on my Note 1.

Seems like you don't underdstand the fact that Sony installs a shutter protector with Sony logo imprinted on their screens. It is not the screen that scratches but the protector.
Additionally Sony will not replace the shutter protector as they treat is as partbof the screen. It is much easier to apply an extra protector for 2 eur on top and change it when you need. You can remove the shutter protector (you will loose sony logo on the front) and have just glass which will be much more scratch resistant.
The back has also got an antiglare layer on glass so it is the one that shows scratches.
Being an Xperia Z owner I would highly advise using a screen protector but it is up to you. I have found that the protector does not impair phone functionality in any way and if you have difficulty with application just buy a few until you get it right or get one applied in a phone shop.

I preordered mine and laid down 20% non-refundable deposit, so I can't cancel my order. But if I were you, I'd get Note3 or wait out for Z2. I wouldn't get S4, it's too "old".
I will try to answer this one by one:

None of the reviewers has a production set yet so there is no basis to this at all. reviewers need at least 1-2 weeks of using the handset daily before they can really tell the difference.

Again, no one has the final production firmware yet to test this properly. so it is hard to conclude camera. but so far from all the reviews I saw, low light pictures are amazing.

Screen protectors fix this, and if possible dont install it yourself, get one from a store and let them install. it will cost a few dollars more but it is worth it. I have been using screen protectors on my xperia S for more than 1 year and I barely notice that it is there.

I disagree, sony UI is the fastest, most elegant and simplistic non-nexus phone out there. if you have tried an LG or Samsung phone you will know what I am saying. if there is a criticism, it is that the UI has too few enhancements.

This one is something you have to try yourself. most of the time, when you have placed the phone in your hand, it changes your opinion right away. most of the reviews I have read, watched are saying that Z1 is one of the most premium feeling and comfortable for a flagship android phone there is.
compare this with LG G2's plastic back, with back buttons (barf), and Note3's "Leather back (really is plastic)" back panel.

This is not true at all, Xperia Z1 Screen is the brightest of all. trust me it is bright! and nothing is worse than AMOLED.
Also IMO, who uses their phones at weird viewing angles? but if being used dead on, Xperia Z1 is the best. specially at watching movies.

Another thing, Samsung's Amoled display deteriorate in time. it will deteriorate by almost 10% within 1 year.
I compared my friend's 1 year old Note 2 to 1.5 year old my Xperia S, clearly shows the difference.

TS, you should Read this post by shem2409. ALL sony xperia handsets came with the shatterproof sheet. It is safer for human when the shatter proof sheet is applied. When glass breaks or shatters, there will be lots and lots of small tiny shards coming off. The shatter proof sheet is to hold the shards together so that you won't hurt yourself.
Just apply a good quality screen protector and you will be fine. Or you can go to a shop, buy screen protector from them and they would apply for you. They have experience on apply screen protector and most of the time, they applied it perfectly for me.
The screen is ok on the Z1. Screen protector will protect it further. Viewing angles are fine on the Z1.
The only valid point is camera quality. At present the S4 which has had 6 months to be optimised takes better quality shots. But it doesnt have the 800 chip that can do more camera tricks like the Z1. Also the S4 has 9gb free internal. The Z1 11.7gb approx.

I currently have the S4 and I am in love with it. The only flaw to me is I wish the speaker was on the bottom so it wouldn't matter how I put the phone down and also the camera. The camera is good but not for low-light photography. I am upgrading to the Z1. Also, I would prefer people to save their comments on the Z1's camera until they actually see it in person. In an honest sense, I hardly see anything wrong with the Z1 besides the large bezel at the bottom (most likely due to the hardware design) and the lack of OIS.
Keep that in mind, my octa have only 8.79 gb for use and I stop more than 50 apps with titanium backup. Is really good device but touchwiz is bad, i give a try with Sony now.

These phones are fingerprint magnets but as other OP's have stated, a back shield isn't noticeable at all. I always cover my phones with skins from Phantomskinz including my XZ. I found a glass oleophobic screen protector from Brando for my XZ and loved it. Am (im)patiently waiting for them to get one for the XZ1! Feels much better to the touch than the regular screen protectors.

I totally disagree! The Z1 samples I've seen so far reflect its overall image quality to be much better in comparison to S4 or any other android smartphone so far. Have a look at the gsmarena Z1 camera samples (20 mp ones) & compare them to S4's, you'll know what I mean. I do agree that the image processing on Z1 could be better (which hopefully should only improve with retail firmware & further updates). But the Z1 sensor captures way too much detail compared to S4 to be called of inferior quality ! Low light imaging too seems a lot better.
On a side note, I noticed that the gsmarena Z1 review camera samples show blurring out of images ONLY on the right side (about 1/3 part), which might probably be due to dirty lens or defective unit.
Hi
Well, I did cancel my order. I shall wait for some real user reviews of retail units before deciding whether to get one. I note that several UK vendors have had it listed as 'in stock' from today so those real user opinions are not far off.
Might just keep my Note One for anither 6 months and wait for the Z2!
Nigel

Difficult decision.

Hi guys I am currently in the market for a flagship phone, and I can't seem to be able to decide between:
HTC one M8
Xperia z3 compact
LG g3
Moto x 2014
PRICE IS NOT A PROBLEM.
So which would you pick and why? What are the pros and cons?
Thanks for your help
M8: Ultra pixel camera sux IMO. Very big phone.
G3: Also pretty big. Reports of heat issues. Very nice device, tho. Personally I'm inclined toward the G2.
Moto X: Battery life on this phone will never be good enough.. Camera underperforms.
Z3 Compact could use more storage, but it's a really nice device. 720p is not a problem, but it feels like they could have squeezed more usability out of the 4.6" screen. Thing is slipperier than a wet bar of soap. Haven't dropped it, but it slides on any surface you'd put it down on. Undoubtedly one of 2014's best phones.
I actually find the glass to be quite grippy and "sticky" in the hand. More so than my previous phone which had a soft-touch plastic, anyhow.
Z3 compact is definitely the one you should pick of you want compactness AND top performance. And the water proofing gives you peace of mind.
I came from a HTC One M8.
Overall, I have no regrets and I'm not looking back. The M8's ultra pixel camera did not impress me. Photos lacked detail and were noisy. The M8 is also a really tall phone for its screen size. The top and bottom bezels are huge to accommodate the stereo speakers. Speaker sound quality goes to the M8. The Z3C's speakers sound so muffled in comparison.
Display quality also goes to M8. It's not so much screen resolution, rather colour accuracy. Z3C colours are very "blue". I can't even tell the difference between 1080P vs 720P unless both phones are side by side.
Storage capacity goes to M8. I really wish the Z3C had 32GB, instead of only 16GB. With the direction Android is taking, having a large SD card won't really help when it comes to apps. A few games and as your installed apps fill their cache folders and your 11.8GB useable space is gone.
Everything else goes to the Z3C. Including battery life, camera, better physical size, waterproofing, etc.
I can from HTC m7. Considered new moto x but battery and screen size weren't right for me.
Z3c battery, camera, and SD card is what sold me. I don't miss the full HD screen of the m7 as I prefer the smaller size of the Z3c.
Edit: and the noise cancelling headset is amazing.

Bad Diaplay

My display is looking like it's in a low resolution, feels like I can see the pixels and look oversharp, I didn't change anything on the settings and coming from a phone who isnt famous for the display (iPhone 7) this screen feels worse ;(
That's because it's a 1080 pentile matrix display . With a pentile matrix the effective resolution is lower than it actually is around 900, so yes the OP3T display isn't great and looks quite grainy.
I'm coming from a Nexus 6p with qhd and the difference is not noticeable. It could be during some game but actually I didn't see any difference..
Lol i dont see any problem and i welcome this display over these ridiculous 4k battery hogs. The funny thing is 4 years ago you would have looked at the latest iphone and been like wow the display is beautiful. Just because there are phones with better looking displays doesn't mean anything worse than them is now somehow bad.

The latest optimised 2k(they're not 4K) panels use LESS battery than most poor 1080panels. The whole "2k panels use more battery" is a myth with today's tech, check out the S7 battery life for this. The fact is, the OP3T panel is poor quality and the pixels can be quite easily seen.

You definitely cant see pixels it's clearly in your head people where claiming you couldn't see pixels on the iphone 4s at the time. Can i ask what size your pc monitor and what resolution it puts out? I don't understand why people think 1080 on such a tiny display isn't already insane as it is. You are just getting fixated on numbers for no reason. And you are being silly there is no myth, more pixels = more battery use no matter which way you look at it it's a fact, the newer panels might be more efficient but it still doesn't make up the difference.

I completely disagree. I'd say that some people are more sensitive to it and so might not be able to see the pixels where some can. 1080 on a 5.5inch pentile display isn't overkill. The OP3T doesn't beat the S7 or even the 2K Pixel XL on battery life, why if 1080 is such a big battery saver? because Samsung are class leaders in screens and optimisation, their panels sip battery.

Exactly why samsung and those 2K screens now default to 1080 resolution on Nougat. You have to go in and manually set it to 2K if you want it that high for some reason. I wonder why Samsung would do that if it didnt improve performance and battery?

Coming from an S7 Edge as of Friday, I can tell you that the battery life on it isn't very good. 100% stock I would get less than a full day, and with the garbage root method we had, I would get about 6 hours (with 5 hours being standby) before I had to charge it. And as far as the screen goes, I can't see pixels exactly, but I do notice the grainy effect because of the pentile matrix. Although colors, contrast, and sharpness are fantastic. White letters on a colored background can be seen as grainy if you're really looking for it. Still very happy with this display
Gotta say I love the display on the 3T which is same as 3 so yah really don't see the quality problem. My other phone being the Galaxy S7 really don't see much a difference with these to.
I have to say the 3T display isn't great, I can definitely notice the drop in resolution over a 2k screen. The 3T looks grainy. I hope they increase the resolution for the OP5.

When you say "easily", what do you mean ?? Like sticking the phone on your nose to see the pixels ??
Cause I use it about 1 feet away "at least", and I don't see no pixels.
Asking for a 2K display on phones is like those people who ask for 60+ FPS on a game, but has only a 60Hz monitor.

I can without a doubt see a grainy effect on text at normal viewing distance. 2k resolution smooths it out, 4k is probably overkill.

But I don't think that the problem here is the resolution, seems like the display quality is the real problem ;/
I did something and in my opinion the display look a lot better. If you have root download easy dpi changer and change the resolution to 2560/1440, 3200/1800, 3840/2160.
Tell me if you see any difference, I know that seems crazy, but for me worked.
There are some bugs like black recent apps e tou can't take screenshots, but for me worth it.
