You are the Man:fingers-crossed:Hey @TheBenzinator what do you think?
Ok same time posting, I got the idea!
40% increase over note 3 (exynos). impressive for exynos performance.
i was wondering also on snapdragon improvement who was "stuck" on low 600k for some time on 801 model.

yes we all know snapdragon low result is weird (for chess benchmark load)...No one came with adequate answer for the root cause for that as cpu speed is good but maybe snapdragon 805 with improved memory bandwidth will bring the big improvement and close the huge gap against exynos who excells in this workload..

since it isnt just cpu speed here. Bitboard based chess programs usually need lots of cache memory, fast cache memory and fast main memory to run fast (according to droidfish programmer).

The real improvement of the 805 is the beefy GPU and double the memory bandwidth (most of which is apparently reserved for the GPU and not available to the CPU).
The Krait 450 cores have seen almost no architectural improvements over the Krait 400 in the Snapdragon 800 other than the increased frequency.
Hell, even the original Krait 200 cores in the Nexus 4's S4 Pro have almost the same performance per clock as the 805.

The International S3 has a Quad Core with 1GB RAM, whereas the US version has a Dual Core with 2GB RAM and no FM radio antenna. I believe the US version of the S2 is equally handicapped conpared to the INT version.
And it's not to make room for the 4G antenna as they would like to have you believe. My S3's from Germany, carrier free, and has a 4G antenna. And a Quad Core.
But a Quad Core processor nearly always has a lower Ghz speed than a Dual Core. My laptop from 2009 has a 2.8Ghz Core2Duo, whch was normal for high-end laptops and pc's at that time. Good luck finding a i7 with those specs in the past 3 years. They're only coming available in a reasonable pricerange in the last few months. (2000 euro for a cpu is not reasonable.)
S3 has 1.5GB processor
ib4l :silly:
Please take a look at This Article to understand more about processors.
If you're talking about the SGH-T989, sources I found says it has a 1.5Ghz Scorpion dual-core CPU. The SGH-T999 has a 1.5Ghz Krait dual-core CPU. Different families. The international S3 has a 1.4Ghz ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core CPU (Exynos).
It's true that most apps do not take full advantage of all four cores, so sometimes a dual-core phone can be faster.
However, one would need to take a look at them individually and examine how they work and do some tests for a better comparison. Or one could punch in some more Google searches than I was willing to do.

Its not the GDDR type since that is used on graphics card and cost a fortune compared to normal DDR type.
It would be DDR2 or DDR3 but i think i read somewhere on the forums it uses DDR3
It uses the APQ8064 S4 pro, the chipset information states this in the memory section :
Dual-channel 533 MHz (8.5 GB/sec)
DDR3 it is.

There is no mention on the White paper or the User manual or the website that the RAM is DDR3, so I would not think it was (considering afaik S4Pro supports only DDR2 ram).
If the Z was DDR3 they would tout it as a feature since it would be the first DDR3 phone.
Hence my belief it is not. If you find documentation that states otherwise then let me know. But for now I will believe it is DDR2.
Either way. for the 8.5 GB/sec its either using the high-end DDR2 memory or Low end DDR3, you cant go wrong with either.

Has nothing to do with high end or low end.
It simply means that the ram is at 5xxmhz

The Xperia Z has LPDDR2 (LP = Low Power) like most smartphones today. No smartphones are using LPDDR3 today, but it is expected that Samsung will be the first (or one of the first) to use it this year (GS4 maybe?), and LPDDR4 for tablets will be on the market in 2014.

Yes, it has been confirmed that Galaxy S4 uses LPDDR3 RAM. It seems to be the first phone to use one, even though HTC One uses S600 but I read it somewhere that it uses LPDDR2. But for Xperia Z, it's a no go for LPDDR3 as the chip doesn't support it.
For me S4 is no CM friendly but you can expected long support from Samsung like S2.
One is CM friendly but software features and hardware specs are below S4.
Xperia Z is the least interesting of all both hardware and software but it can play with me in the bath. I might go with it.
Galaxy S4 does indeed use LPDDR3:

all CPU are nt the same, even if a very strenght process control there always be difference between two unit, the CPU are not matched pair
so there are some of them able to work on lower UV other no, some can handle overclocking better than other and so on
if you have a faster cpu PSV=4 you could have better perfomance in terms of overclocking or battery usage lowering voltage
for sure even in case of lower binning your N5 will fly...

Yeah I'm pretty sure the difference isn't huge yet I think on the N4 the difference from 0-4 was big enough to cause concern. I had an N4 with a 0 (or 1 before 4.3) and its battery life wasn't as good as the one with a 3. I probably got on average 15-30 minutes more, and of course you can under volt a lot more on a better chip which can make a pretty big difference.
I couldn't get it to work... any suggestions? I am rooted.

Man, this sucks, I'm the slow kid. I got the PVS 2, returned .9xx. I checked it earlier, it's being a little strange though - sometimes the command works and logs all the information, sometimes it won't log anything at all. Hopefully when I check again later it'll give me a higher binning like the other guy. Probably not though. I did get fastest on my N4, so I guess you can't win them all.

It's being a bit finnicky. I rebooted and tried again, it's working again. Mine went from 0.9xx to 0.607 when I tried this time. Weird. Still PVS 2.
So, after watching this guy running some throttling test on several smartphones, I started wondering if my Nexus 5 was facing similar throttling issues; just like some Snapdragon 810 devices do. Also, I wanted to extend the testing results, in order to ascertain if Screen Brightness matters, and by how much.
The testing procedure was the following:
I kept running the Geekbench benchmark repeatedly for 10 minutes and taking note of the Multi-threaded score.
For the first set of runs I had the brightness decreased to Minimum. Then I left the device untouched for about 5 minutes (in order to cool down) and ran the test again with the Screen Brightness set to Maximum.
During the tests my Nexus 5 was:
-Stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow
-Stock clocks
-Stock thermal throttle temperature
-Unrooted
You can see the results on the following graph:

Yes, Nexus 5 does throttle. Yes, screen brightness does matter.
Does this make Nexus 5 a bad device?

People will criticize what you do no matter what. Don't pay attention to their gratuitous diatribe.
Thank you for offering a more detailed analysis of the problem at hand.
I didn't want to offend you. N5 also dimms the screen if it gets too hot. So you can't see how slow it is after throtteling. [emoji6]
And yes, it is very annoying.
For myself throttling is a matter or not depends on how serious of it, quite sure something like the 810 I will totally avoild, but 808 will be acceptable for me.
p.s. I don't know which options I shall choose.

If you look at this video, you can clearly see that Snapdragon 808 does not throttle at all.
The problem with throttling is that even though they are selling us a 2.3 GHz device, we don't get these clocks after a couple of minutes surfing on the web (for example)... In other words, we don't get what we thought we paid for.
I bet that Nexus 5 could even reach 3 GHz if its power source allows it, but the thermal limit would make it impossible to sustain those clocks for more than 10 seconds
p.s. I think the first choice "Yes, of course it does" is the choice for you

As I know the 808, at least in G4 does throttling, just not as serious as 810. So does the 7420. I agree most if not all current highend cpu does throttling, slow down a little bit is acceptable, but 810 really slow down too much. There are review 808 actually faster then 810 when under load.

Wow, that's a huge win for the 512, if true. Is that not a real-world performance type of difference, in your estimation? I'm really struggling with the decision of 128 vs. 512. I have a 256GB SD card and don't even have 50GB used up on my Note8 internal... So I'm thinking I should stick with the 128 and save the $250. Unless there's actually a performance difference, but I'm not sure 8GB can do much at this stage. I don't know!

There both beast, but the 512gb will be faster that the 128gb , just go with what you think you need, the 8gb is for very hardcore gaming.

Why would it be faster? Wouldn't it just be better at memory management?

Looks like my decision to go for the 128 is looking better and better.

In theory then the Snap 128 should beat the snap Exynos then? One thing I've learned in the past couple of years is benchmarks are essentially for bragging rights, there is no real world impact on an Antutu score from 250 to 300k. Not unless you are measuring apps opening in milliseconds and want to claim because your phone opened said app .00001 ms faster you win. I've never had any type of problems in real world use of the Note 8. I suspect it stays the same with the 9.

Yeah correct, also in my opinion i always say Benchmarks are a gimmick in my book , i really don't care what it shows. Just my 2 cent.

Agreed. The best benchmarks are your hands on the device.

Yes
Perhaps Samsung is using slower memory chips in the 512gb version? I remember awhile back some phones of the exact same model were unperforming because they were using slower memory chips in some of them.

Pre production firmware? Could cause unexpected results.
Anyone who got a Note 9 in the 512 GB size today in the US who could possibly run this test? I am curious for another comparison here.
