N1 only boots to BlackRose - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I've been unable to find a solution here so far. My N1 has an old version of Blackrose (it says Apr 2012 04:53:16 on the front screen).
When I switch to phone one, it gets to the standard Blackrose menu. If I choose recovery, I can get to 4EXT where I can wipe/partition etc. From here I can install a ROM (latest Evervolv at the moment) and Gapps. When I reboot, I end up back at the blackrose menu again.
I have tried flashing the phone with a complete wipe (except sdcard) 5 times in a row and then installing Evervolv and rebooting. I always end up back at the Blackrose menu.
Does anyone have any ideas?
AMH.

Volume rocker stuck?

How will I be able to tell? I can still use the volume to navigate the blackrose menu.
Interestingly, on the first BR menu, only "fastboot" can be selected, then on the second menu "fastboot", "recovery", "reboot" and "powerdown" are all available. The "recovery" option will get me to 4EXT.

[Q] Htc dream g1 froyo root question

I am a first time rooting. A couple things. First I'm pretty sure I've gotten up to Armon Ra Recovery and just want to know is there any way to check? Also if I've done everything correct then why is the radio update working? I have the file on the sd card root it goes to read it in recovery mode and it says installing cannot find file installation abort. Lastly I just want to make sure I do everything right after those steps because I really don't want to brick my phone.
To check if you have amon RA recovery working, try booting your phone into recovery mode. Power off the phone. Now hold down the Home and Power button until you enter Recovery mode.
For the radio, put it on the root of your SD card, and make sure the file extension is .zip, then enter Recovery mode by powering off the phone and holding down the Home and Power button. Go to "flash zip" and select the radio and proceed to flash it onto your phone.

Depend on how you acquired S-Off. Since you have official Sense 3.0/2.3.5 and you still have S-Off it sounds like you may have permanent S-Off via a XTC Clip, in which case you cannot return to S-On.

Not sure about that, how can detect XTC Clip?
Here instruction how I get root access (translated by Google):
Given:
Any firmware
HBOOT S-OFF from the revolutionary and you just know it!
Get:
Android 2.3.5; v.3.08.405.3, Sence 3.0, HBOOT 2.00.0002, S-off.
4EXT Recovery 2.2.7 RC5, Superuser 3.0.7 (root).
Solution:
1) Download the latest firmware file to install via FASTBOOT http://narod.ru/disk/33893194001/PG32IMG.zip.html.
2) Put the memory card.
3) Throws immediately to the card straight from the tin Superuser v.3.0.7 here: http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/S...efgh-signed.zip
4) Check that in the Settings-Power-Quick shot daw, then turn off the phone. After 2-3 minutes turn on him pinching button VolDown + Power. We go into bootloader.
5) You must pick up the archive, check it out and offer to upgrade (perhaps this will need more time to poke Power). The test will last long enough (5 minutes), as evidenced bar at the top right of the display. After that he saw:
Do you want to start update?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No
Agree by clicking VolUp.
After completion of the firmware we offer press Power to restart. Reboot and remove the card PG32IMG.zip (a must! Otherwise not be able to boot into Recovery).
6) Turn off the phone. And includes the clamping button VolDown + Power. Go to Fastboot, select Recovery, get into the menu 4EXTRecovery 2.2.7 RC5.
7) the volume rocker, select install from sdcard, affirm Power. In the next menu, choose zip from sdcard, choose a rocker Superuser_3.0.7_efgh_signed.zip our file and confirm selection with Power. After the successful installation of Recurrence back and reboot now.

Ok you have a modified S-Off HBOOT, probably version 7.0x.xxxx. This is a new option and I do not know if a S-On option is available. You may want to try asking at the site where you found these instructions for a solution.

[Q] Help!!! Bricked my phone!!!

So I Have a rooted CDMA HTC Hero rooted with WildHeroC RC4. I was cleaning my phones memory up and decided to get rid of some apps. Then I decided to replace the HTC Sense home screen with a windows home screen just to have something different. I backed up the last set up I had using clockwork mod. When I went to uninstall the HTC Sense home screen I used titanium backup pro. When I pressed one of the options to (i think it said) "permanently remove or uninstall" the Sense home screen the hero went into some recovery thing showing a box with an android next to it and an arrow coming out. There is a yellow progress bar at the bottom that gets to about 1/4 the way finished and then starts over completely and does this repeatedly. I tried taking the battery out and putting it back in and then press the power and down volume but it just goes back to the same screen. What happened and can I fix it???? Please help!!!!
Ok first off YOUR PHONE IS NOT BRICKED. If your phone was bricked then it would not come on at all. If your phone turns on It's not bricked. Now do you have a nandroid back up ?? Also what recovery were you using ??? And do you have adb setup ??
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\
I don't think I have a nandroid backup. And I was using clockwork mods recovery or at least the default one that comes with it. I think I do have adb set up. What do I do? Please Help!!!

You should definitely check to see if you have a nandroid backup stored some were it will help you with your current issue. Also when you refer to the default cwm did you mean that you downloaded rom manger and flashed a recovery??? And are you s-off or s-on ??? Also do you have adb set up ?? And are you able to boot into hboot?? You do this by
Powering off the phone.
Then press and hold the volume up key.
Then tap/press the power button.
You will see a white screen. That's your hboot screen. To get you back up and running you can find a HERCIMG.zip of cwm recovery or Ra's recovery, drop it on the root of your sd "as in not in any folders" and flash it threw hboot if your s-off. If not then you can look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958968
For how to flash using fastboot with s-on. Or if you have adb setup you can search for the recovery.img of cwm or Ra and flash them threw adb. Once you have your recovery back you can perform a full system wipe by wiping
cache,davlik-cache, and data/factory reset. Then either restore your nandroid or flash your rom of choice. I think your recovery is screwed up and also your rom I'm thinking is screwed up as well. If you can't find the recovery zips or img's let me know. Hope this helps.

I think I have S-off. I also think I have a Nandroid backup (I backed up my rom and all my apps and data using rom manager)- is that nandroid backup? When I press the power and down volume button it goes right back to the loading bar and NOT to the menu. I can not boot into hboot. As for the recovery I did load it from Rom Manager. So what do I do. I have adb loaded.
You have to boot into hboot to find out I'd you have s-off. Via my post above. What happens when you try to boot into hboot??? Also have you tried holding the power and home button at the same time for at least 15 seconds to see if you can boot into your current recovery?? I forgot to ask you that in my other post. Also no that's not a nandroid however I believe you can restore that zip if its a zip that rom manger made with cwm.
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\
I have tried holding down the home and power button but it does the same thing. It will not let me boot into hboot. It goes strait to the screen showing a white box with an arrow coming out of it and a android standing next to it. There's a loading bar at the bottom that keeps loading up to 1/4th then goes back to the beginning and it does that over and over again.
That's not how you boot into hboot. That's for recovery. To boot into hboot do this.
Power the phone off.
Press and hold the volume up button.
Then tap/press the power button.
Just tap the power button don't hold it.
Only hold the the volume up button. Then you should boot into hboot.
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\
I did what you said (Hold up volume and pressed (not hold) the power button) and it still does not go through hboot.
What happenes ??
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\
It shows the HTC screen for a few seconds and then It goes strait to the screen showing a white box with an arrow coming out of it and a android standing next to it. There's a loading bar at the bottom that keeps loading up to 1/4th then goes back to the beginning and it does that over and over again.

[Q&A] Official AT&T Vivid ICS RUU from HTC

Q&A for Official AT&T Vivid ICS RUU from HTC
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for Official AT&T Vivid ICS RUU from HTC. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Need suggestions.
I was told by HTC support that the device I have is at the end of it's life cycle. LOL anyway, time to get this device unlocked and play around with it, I guess.

So, this device has started acting up all of a sudden. Started giving me the white bg screen with the logo after a random reboot. Tried doing everything possible on this to fix it, and get this back to the stock ROM using the official RUU (htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_R23_US.exe), was hoping to retrieve some of it's data since I didn't have sufficient amount of good data backed up. But at this point, all I want to do is get this puppy back up and running w/ unlock and root, any way possible. Tried doing the RUU on two different windows machines with different usb cords, have received error message 170,171(was able to get rid of those with the help of CCleaner, a quick registry wipe) and finally error 155 when the update got stuck at 9% with the black screen with htc written on it. I would even wanna try if I can put lollipop on this, as I just came across a post here that says it's doable. But I just don't have a way to enable USB debugging as I don't have any access to the OS, or even the Play store. Would appreciate suggestions, and proper step guidelines on this! Please help a brother learn as I'm just starting to take small footsteps towards this. Will appreciate any help. Thanks a lot!
Help flashing JB on a HTC vivid
Hi,
I've been trying to upgrade my android OS from ICS to JB using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416836
I already unlocked the bootloader and installed the ClockworkMod Recovery, now when I'm trying to install the new ROM, it says that the installation was completed however I still have ICS 4.0.3. I'm following these steps:
Download a ROM, it should be in a zip file (MAKE SURE the ROM is pre rooted, or else you might lose root. If you do not know, ask the respective dev)
2) Connect your phone to your computer through the USB and mount the storage card (storage mode)
3) Copy the ROM you downloaded and put it on the ROOT of your storage card (not in any folders)
4) Power off your phone. Then power it on holding the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons. You should be in H-Boot, now use the volume rocker to select recovery (the power button "selects" it)
5) Once in recovery, scroll down to "backup and restore" and select it, now select "backup". This will give you a safe ROM to fall back on and restore in case anything goes wrong
- IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH BACKING UP, pull the battery, boot back into recovery (power + vol down then select recovery) and try again. OR you may have to boot up and delete the old partial backups with a file explorer and try again. OR make sure your USB is no longer connected and try again.
6) Get back to the main recovery menu and select "wipe data/factory reset". Select "Yes" when prompted.
7) Get back to the main recovery menu and select "wipe cache partition". Select "Yes" when prompted.
8) Get back to the main recovery menu and select "advanced". Now select "Wipe dalvik cache" and select "Yes" when prompted.
9) Get back to the main recovery menu and select "Install zip from SD card". Choose the ROM you just put on the storage card, and select "Yes".
10) IF your ROM will not install correctly or you get an error and you are using the recovery from the superguide (this one) then tell the dev of the ROM to update their script to work with the new recovery
11) Get back to the main recovery menu and select "Reboot now". Your ROM will now be loaded up. Do not panic if it takes a small while (5 minutes at most I'd say) because the first boot always takes some time.
Is there something I'm missing or something else I have to do?
