If that's all you wanted to do, you're done! You should now have a fully functional phone. "
_when in step 7 I REBOOTED MY G1 and now result is orange triangle and the "!" on screen when i enter recovery mode.
_i tried to enter fastboot by press and hold POWER and CAMERA button.

I flashed the 1.4 recovery image from terminal emu.
Here is what I'm running.
CM 4.1.8
radio 2.22.19.26
Now when I hold home and end it shows the G1 logo then goes black shows the G1 logo again then black then nothing happens. no text or anything. The lights on the keys do light up but nothing happens.
Any insight?
reflash the recovery image. do you have adb installed?
I have a similar problem. I was using EnochXTra, and went straight to the part where you flash the "1.6 recovery image". I figured it would wipe the theme off, and then I could flash Cyanogen's 4.1.99. But now when I hold "home", I get a screen that has (description) "a triangle with a "!" in the center of it, facing a phone laying down" (end description). If I don't hold home, I get to where it says "Android" and it starts cycling (not rebooting, just the word "android"'s animation freezing, flickering off for a split second, then resuming). in both situations I have to pull the battery to get out of them.
Anyone know where I failed and how badly?

how exactly did you flash this "1.6 recovery image"?
I changed the name to "update.zip", rebooted while holding "home", then applied "update.zip from sdcard".
... I screwed up big time didn't I?
No that's the correct way to do it. Just making sure you didn't flash_image recovery ........zip in the terminal. Since you can reach the bootloader (Camera+Power) follow THIS
K, I managed to flash the update.zip, and now my phone works. I renamed cyanogen's rom to update.zip, but under the recovery mode menu (the one with the triangle and "!"), I don't get a list of options, but when I go "alt+S" (like I did earlier) it "tries" to flash but gives up less than a second later. Also alt+W wipes and reboots.
While it's working, I installed cyanogen's updater, but when it tries to get root, nothing happens. Did I just unroot my phone?
Do you have USB Debugging enabled?

Yes. When I checked, it was enabled by default.
hmmmm. and what rom are you running?
http://developer.htc.com/adp.html
I used the recovery image as per cyanogen's instructions for version 4.1.99.
ah ok, have you installed 4.1.99 yet? ADP1 handles root requests a little differently.
No. While at the recovery screen (with the triangle and "!"), i have the update for cyanogen at the / of the sdcard named update.zip (like I have for all roms I've used), but alt+S won't do anything.
can you do this?
1) Goto the market and download "Telnet"
2) Open Telnet and connect to localhost : 23
3) type su (enter)
4) type flash_image recovery cm-recovery-1.4.img (enter)
5) Press the home button

Hi, really hoping someone can help me here.
I have a Nexus One that was running a stock Android 2.2 FRF91, and I want to go to a CM ROM.
I've been following the wiki guide here.
I have completed the "Unlocking the Bootloader" section.
I have chosen to use Amon_Ra's recovery. When I ran the command this is what I got back in the command window, so it looks to have been successful.
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (3962 KB)... OKAY [ 0.764s]
writing 'recovery'... OKAY [ 1.576s]
finished. total time: 2.340s
I was then able to update the Radio. Now I'm stuck trying to flash the ROM.
This is exactly what I do leading up to my current problem.
Switch the phone on holding down the trackball.
Select Bootloader option.
Select Recovery.
At this point it reboots, but I am left with a little green android man and a white triangle with an orange ! mark.
HELP! Thank you.

Simple:
After install recovery reboot holding VOL DOWN and enter first time in Amon-RA.
Now "flash update.zip"----->CyanogenMod6-RC2 (it contains root etc.)
If you reboot and retry to enter in recovery you'll have little android in triangle...that's because ota FRF91 has a script in system/etc/install-recovery.sh that at every boot change at default recovery. If you have root you can delete that file, but if you haven't you have to do that:
1. install recovery
2. at reboot enter directly in recovery (at first time)
3. install cyano rom
4. reboot
5. now you can flash amon-ra recovery and it is forever
Hello, and thanks for your quick reply!
Still problems though...I'll note exactly what I'm doing.
Phone is not connected to USB and is switched off.
Hold down VOL DOWN and Power button.
Press VOL DOWN and then press in the Power button to select RECOVERY.
Now the phone reboots and I'm back to the little green man with the triangle and orange ! mark.

So..
Enter in fastboot and reload recovery with fastboot, at the first reboot enter in recovery....first time you'll enter in AMon-RA and do what i wrote up.
Sorry, so just to be clear...
Are these the steps to follow?
Connect phone to PC.
Power on phone holding down the power button
From the PC running the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
At first reboot after this hold down VOL DOWN to flash CM update.zip
Is that correct?
Thanks.

No (IMPORTANT (not reboot completely):
1. connect phone and POWER UP holdin VOL DOWN
2. enter in fastboot and reload amon-ra recovery first
3. at reboot (after you have loaded amon-ra) VOL DOWN and choose recovery with POWER button----------->AMOn-RA
...............understood?
OK, so I'm doing what you say.
I have the phone connected to the PC.
I turn it on holding the VOL DOWN button.
I get to a white screen with 3 green android men and 4 options (FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, CLEAR STORAGE, and SIMLOCK).
From a command prompt on the PC I try to run fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, but this just sits there saying ( waiting for device ).
If I try to enter the RECOVERY mode it reboots back the point point where I was stuck to begin with.
I really appreciate your help, please stick with me! Thanks.
WAIT! Think I've got it working...will report back shortly.

When you are in blank screen you have to see fastboot in red.
In prompt have you written: fastboot devices?
It gives you such a "HTC 123455666..." If yes you have to load recovery like first time...after you have to choose recovery in blank screen if possible directly with POWER BUTTON...i hope..
Hurrah! Think it looks to be complete now.

That simply will not work on a un-rooted phone. The stock / original recovery has very limited functionality.
Well, it's easy. Just follow this way:
1. Download the attachments to this post. (tass-recovery.cwm is the recovery, the other .rar has odin and tass.ops)
2. Put upd_1.zip on the root (On top, not in a folder) of your SD-card.
3. Boot into recovery. (When phone is powered off: Home-button + power) (Now you'll root your phone.
4. Use the volume buttons to highlight 'apply update from sdcard', then press home to select.
5. Use volume buttons to highlight 'upd_1.zip', then select with the home button.
6. Press home button to 'reboot system now'. Your phone is now rooted.
7. Power down your phone.
8. Enter download mode by pressing 'Volume down + Home button + power button.
9. Connect through USB to your PC.
10. Launch ODIN v4.38.
11. Wait for Odin to recognize your phone. (At the left, there will be a yellow box that says COM "?", the number can be different.)
12. Select Tass_v1.0.ops by pressing the 'OPS-button'
13. Make sure 'One package' is marked at the left of the window.
14. Select tass-recovery-cwm.tar with the 'One Package-button' at the bottom of your window.
15. Press start, wait 'till your phone reboots. Now you'll have ClockWorkMod-recovery installed.
then you're ready to flash any custom roms

Q&A for Official AT&T Vivid ICS RUU from HTC
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for Official AT&T Vivid ICS RUU from HTC. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Need suggestions.
I was told by HTC support that the device I have is at the end of it's life cycle. LOL anyway, time to get this device unlocked and play around with it, I guess.

So, this device has started acting up all of a sudden. Started giving me the white bg screen with the logo after a random reboot. Tried doing everything possible on this to fix it, and get this back to the stock ROM using the official RUU (htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_R23_US.exe), was hoping to retrieve some of it's data since I didn't have sufficient amount of good data backed up. But at this point, all I want to do is get this puppy back up and running w/ unlock and root, any way possible. Tried doing the RUU on two different windows machines with different usb cords, have received error message 170,171(was able to get rid of those with the help of CCleaner, a quick registry wipe) and finally error 155 when the update got stuck at 9% with the black screen with htc written on it. I would even wanna try if I can put lollipop on this, as I just came across a post here that says it's doable. But I just don't have a way to enable USB debugging as I don't have any access to the OS, or even the Play store. Would appreciate suggestions, and proper step guidelines on this! Please help a brother learn as I'm just starting to take small footsteps towards this. Will appreciate any help. Thanks a lot!
Help flashing JB on a HTC vivid
Hi,
I've been trying to upgrade my android OS from ICS to JB using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416836
I already unlocked the bootloader and installed the ClockworkMod Recovery, now when I'm trying to install the new ROM, it says that the installation was completed however I still have ICS 4.0.3. I'm following these steps:
Download a ROM, it should be in a zip file (MAKE SURE the ROM is pre rooted, or else you might lose root. If you do not know, ask the respective dev)
2) Connect your phone to your computer through the USB and mount the storage card (storage mode)
3) Copy the ROM you downloaded and put it on the ROOT of your storage card (not in any folders)
4) Power off your phone. Then power it on holding the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons. You should be in H-Boot, now use the volume rocker to select recovery (the power button "selects" it)
5) Once in recovery, scroll down to "backup and restore" and select it, now select "backup". This will give you a safe ROM to fall back on and restore in case anything goes wrong
- IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH BACKING UP, pull the battery, boot back into recovery (power + vol down then select recovery) and try again. OR you may have to boot up and delete the old partial backups with a file explorer and try again. OR make sure your USB is no longer connected and try again.
6) Get back to the main recovery menu and select "wipe data/factory reset". Select "Yes" when prompted.
7) Get back to the main recovery menu and select "wipe cache partition". Select "Yes" when prompted.
8) Get back to the main recovery menu and select "advanced". Now select "Wipe dalvik cache" and select "Yes" when prompted.
9) Get back to the main recovery menu and select "Install zip from SD card". Choose the ROM you just put on the storage card, and select "Yes".
10) IF your ROM will not install correctly or you get an error and you are using the recovery from the superguide (this one) then tell the dev of the ROM to update their script to work with the new recovery
11) Get back to the main recovery menu and select "Reboot now". Your ROM will now be loaded up. Do not panic if it takes a small while (5 minutes at most I'd say) because the first boot always takes some time.
Is there something I'm missing or something else I have to do?

Hi guys. I'm a stock OxygenOS ROM user and No Root either. I having trouble with recent system update. Every time I update, the phone reboots into screen like below, after chosing language, I get an error message "system error, after select language please select Online update (keep data) to reovery system". After pressing OK, there's no such online update option. But only choices as follow: 1) Format Data 2) Reboot 3) Power off 4) Fast Boot 5) Recovery mode. Chosing reboot, power off, recovery always get the phone to reboot into this same screen. When chose fastboot, then press power off button. Phone boots into usable state again after long wait, and I get an Update Failure message. I just want to update my stock phone, preferably without dangerous method like rom flashing. Is this a bug and I should wait for next update till it's fixed? Much appreciate for advices and help.
