Hi guys,
complete noob mistake
I hit the wrong button in TWRP (v.2.3.3.0) and wiped the system off my i9305, now I want to install AOSB (or any ROM for that matter!)
The AOSB install fails with a Status 7 "set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed"
I've unzipped the ROM and deleted the lines at the start where it checks the device type just in case, but that hasn't fixed it.
I'm getting the same error with two different CM11 builds for the i9305 too.
I read somewhere that its a problem with TWRP, so I downloaded TWRP 2.6.3.1 Flashable, and I've been trying to flash that.
It says the install was successful, then I wipe cache & dalvic, power off, and start to recovery, but it goes into the older 2.3.3.0 recovery.
I can't use Odin because the USB port is broken...I've tried replacing it with a soldering iron without success (Don't have a reflow gun...yet)
Is there any way I can update / fix TWRP by using it to flash a new recovery over itself? Ideally I'd like the newest CWM, as that is apparently needed to flash AOSB but once i get any functional rom on it at all I was planning on installing CWM from the system and flashing AOSB then.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :good:
Bump
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Hi fellows,
I need your guidance and expert advice in resolving a situation, I have ran into recently. I was trying to install CM10.1 on my brother's galaxy Note GT-N7000 international version which was running official ICS 4.0.4.
Since, I had experience in installing different ROMs on my Galaxy S2, Nexus 7 and Xperia Arc so I was not worried about it being a big deal. So, I followed the procedure described in this page http://techgoneinsane.blogspot.com/2012/08/installing-cm10-on-galaxy-note-n7000.html?m=1 and used Odin and file from 'speedmod' to gain root access and flash CWM which was successful. Then, as planned, I tried update zip in the CWM recovery for CM10.1 nightly. But, I came across error 'Status 7' installation aborted. This was new to me, so I tried few things like 'factory reset', wipe data etc and even tried installing stock ROM ICS XXLRK which was previously installed but no avail. I tried several other ROMs like stable CM9 and other nightlies but no success. The phone is stuck on the boot Samsung logo with yellow triangle. However, I'm able to go in the recovery and download mode.
Upon doing couple of Google searches, I came to know, quite a number of people have faced this error by I couldn't understand the fix properly so can anyone of you please guide me for the solution. Thanks.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

If you are on Speedmod's recovery (which is safe), you can try this:
1) Download the latest CM10.1 kernel and save it to your SD card.
2) Flash it in Recovery (Install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard), then reboot in the new Recovery (advanced > reboot recovery).
3) Do a full wipe (even format preload and system in "mounts")
3) Flash the latest CM10.1 build
4) Flash the 4.2.2 Gapps
5) Do a data wipe / factory reset
6) Reboot
You got a yellow triangle because you flashed an unofficial kernel through Odin. To get rid of it, use TriangleAway.
Good luck!

You're welcome. Glad I could help . If you feel like it, hit the Thanks button on Chasmodo's first message in the repository (where you downloaded your CM10.1 kernel). He really deserves it. You may also want to do the same on Entropy's first post in the unofficial CM10.1 thread :good: That way, you'll show your support and appreciation .
Last 3-4 days I had been searching all over the net but couldn't make a solution. My GT-N7000 phone is running on stock ROM N7000ODDLSC_N7000DDLS6_INU (4.1.2). I want to install any custom rom like CARBON, CyanogenMOD, OmniROM, etc. So I followed following steps:
1. Rooted my phone with "Root_SuperSU.0.98-Busybox.1.20.2-signed.zip" from stock recovery.
2. Then faced a lot of difficulty in installing a custom recovery (CWM). (I went through ROM Manager....failed, downloaded recovery zip and img file both and tried to install through recovery and/or adb update....all failed
3. Later on I got a custom CWM recovery (temporary) "recovery-clockwork-4.0.1.5-galaxys2 (Temp).zip" and tried the folowing steps:
a. Wipping cashe partition, delvic cache, facory reset for installing new ROM
b. Installing zip from sdcard>select: "omni-4.4.2-20140313-n7000-NIGHTLY.zip"............then its giving status 7 error
4. Also I tried with CWM touch recovery but also same kind of error.
.................can anyone provide me any kind of solution????
Perhaps you need a newer clockwork mod version...

I can.
From stock recovery, install any of these kernels.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
Then reboot the phone back into the new recovery. and install this.
http://goo.im/devs/chasmodo/Asylum-Omni/n7000/kernel/raw_kernel_r4_j43.zip
Reboot into recovery again, and now install rom.
Keep in mind that the recovery of the galaxy note is build into the kernel.
installing 4.4 roms
try philz recovery its clean and easy

I can't install any recovery from my stock recovery. It shows E:/Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (Status 7). Again the cwm recoveries that are in *.img format requires my phone (GT-N7000) to start in fastboot mode. I don't know how to do that. Again I tried to install recovery from ROM Manager. The latest recovery is "ClockworkMod 6.0.4.3". But when i reboot into recovery....it wont start...after trying for sometime, shut down automatically.

So you didn't do what i said.
Go do it again.
Thankyou Azeazezar I could do it following your directed guide. I installed Omnirom Nightlies.
But now problem is, It's not rooted anymore. So i tried to root from the recovery again with "Root_SuperSU.0.98-Busybox.1.20.2-signed.zip" package. But now the SuperSU app does not start. It says:
"There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!
If you just upgraded to android 4.3, you need to manually re-root - Consult the relevent forum for your device!"

Hallo together,
I seem to have done something wrong while trying to flash the rom "RazRi_JB_X-2014-Jul-16".
Here is what i did:
- Unlocked to bootloader using official Motorola homepage
- Flashed CWM (non-touch) recovery using "Recovery Flasher by LeBobo v1.7", USB-Debugging was on
- Rebooted into bootloader and flashed "RAZRiRoot2" to prevent Stock-ROM from overwriting the recovery
- Tried to install the Custom ROM using CWM, but it fails to wipe cache (stuck on line "Formatting /cache")
Because it didn't work, i tried to reset everything as it was before to be able to try again - flashed stock-recovery using the Recovery Flasher by LeBobo, booted into bootloader and selected "Factory". The cell is now just showing the "Warning bootloader unlocked" warning and nothing else happens.
When i try to select the recovery in the bootloader menu, an image of a Android laying on its back with an opened hatch and a red warning symbol showing a "!" appears and nothing else happens.
I seem to have bricked my device, because i cant't really do anything now - is there any solution?
I read through different topics but could not find a real solution to this particular problem...
Thank you so much in advance for your help!
It's not bricked
At the moment u enter stock recovery with that android and red warning sy,bol, u need to press bot volume up + downp. Than it will enter stock recovery mode.
Those are the following things u can do to get custom rom,
1. Flash another recovery, cwm touch, cwm non-touch, twrp. They all work a little different.
2. Flash the custom rom and wipe everything, The wip can take some time. sometimes it will be seconds, sometimes it will take a couple of minutes. Every recovery behaves different, and every flash/wipe too.
3. enjoy
If u really want to go back to stock, flash your stock JB firmware by RSD-Lite.
Thank you very much for your answer. I restored the stock rom using RSD Lite and did a clean install of TWRP.
Then I did a Factory Reset and started to install the custom ROM.
The TWRP is now stuck at "Flashing File 1 of 1 /external_sd/RazRi_JB_X-2014-Jul-16.zip".
Is it normal that it takes more than five minutes or is something going wrong here? Is there something i forgot?

5 minutes is a bit too much. But that's the problem with this device. Every device behaves different and we haven't found out a solution too it.
At the moment i can't do much for you. I can only say try to wipe the partitions mannualy. Wipe system, data and cache. and mount system. And then try to install it. Maybe if that doesnt do the trick try again another recovery.
This from KTR-ROM
Code:
- Enter in TWRP or CWM
- Wipes required: data, system, cache y dalvik
*In CWM mount system must format before (Mount and storage -> Mount system)
Thanks again - that was it.
For some reason, TWRP did not automatically wipe the system-partition. It had to be mounted + wiped manually.
Not the custom ROM is up and running well. Installation took 35 minutes for some reason though...
Thank you so much for your help!

Okay so, I'm not exactly sure if this is the right place but I'll ask here anyway.
I took my old i9000 out of the closet and started playing around with it as I want to use it on my upcoming travel. To make long story short, I used to have a custom ROM on the phone all those years ago, but I am by no means an expert on the subject.
So what I have done so far today:
1. Returned the phone to stock ROM with Odin (XWJW1 or something, most recent anyway)
2. Rooted with Semaphore 2.7.4.
3. Installed Rom Manager and Superuser to check for CWM updates (which caused some sort of a verification error when I tried to boot to CWM through the app).
4. Downloaded the appopriate Slimkat and gapps and moved them into the internal storage.
But after the last step (and after wipe cache, format system etc) when I try to install the ROM, the bar on the screen progresses only slightly and after "Installing update..." it crashes (just goes black without any error messages) and gets stuck with just "Semaphore" on the screen.
I wish to update the phone to Slimkat 4.4.2. But what causes this problem, any ideas? Am I doing something wrong? If anyone can give any help that would be much appreciated!
PS. If I wanted to install for example Philz recovery, how am I supposed to do it when the file is .img?
Anyone?
I guess no one is using this phone anymore?
Yes, you are doing many things bit wrong.... (and many people use this phone still). I hope following will help you:
*recovery and kernel are sharing the same partition on the i9000 what means that you can't flash recovery separately
*make sure to backup your IMEI if still there
*flash first CM10.2 to get updated recovery for KitKat roms and to resize the system and data partitions to those used by all KitKat roms and reboot once into the system. You will need to flash trice to make it work (1. only warning of resizing to come and data lost- and status 7 abort, 2. only recovery update, 3. successful flashing)
*flash SlimKat and latest SlimGapps (addons) for 4.4.4
*PhilZ touch screen isn't yet working well on the i9000 but if you flash Mackay KK kernel, you can get beautiful TWRP touch recovery

Hi there,
my plan was to install CM 12.1 with the help of this site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development-i9305/rom-t3066156
At first, I used Odin to get TWRP on my phone. With TWRP I did a complete backup (EFS, Boot, Cach, System, Data).
Actually, I thought I have done everything like it is instructed on this page.
->
"First time installing CyanogenMod 12.1 to your Galaxy S3 I9305, or coming from another ROM:
- Read known issues ans FAQs
- Flash one of the recovery images (CWM or TWRP)
- Copy GApps and CM12.1 ZIPs to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM12.1 zip from SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Reboot
- Don't restore system data using Titanium Backup!
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!"
<-
After installing GApps, I wiped all data on the internal storage, did a factory reset and rebooted.
Unfortunately, I have been stucking at boot. There has been only the CM symbol on the display.
With TWRP I restored my backup. After that, my phone has been booting normally, but it could not find any mobile service.
According to the settings, my phone didn't recognise my sim card anymore.
(After using Odin, I did a reboot and noticed already that my phone hasn't got any mobile service anymore. Can this be?)
Moreover, I discovered that I my phone has got difficulties to copy things from the computer to the SD-card or to the internal storage.
Even copying things from the SD-card to the internal storage, or the other way round, using a file manager app like "Astro" is not working.
I tried to do a factory reset, but then again, the phone stucks at boot. On the display just appears "SAMSUNG".
Can you guys please help me to get back to a working phone?
With best regards,
New.Android.User
which version of TWRP did you flash?
I used twrp-2.8.7.0-i9305.img.tar
although pm'ed you the solution I'll post a big warning again:
DO NOT USE TWRP 2.8.7.0 from twrp.me. This build is faulty and causes a soft brick. To fix that you need to flash stock rom again and stay on TWRP 2.8.5.0 or any other recent recovery of Philz Touch or CWM.
alright! Thank you so much!
So, I will continue like that:
1. With the help of Odin i will install a new bootloader. I recommended twrp-2.8.5.0-i9305.tar
2. Then again with Odin, I will install the stock rom using -> sammobile.com/firmwares/download/45775/I9305XXUFOB2_I9305DTMFOB2_DTM/
3. Then I will go to the TWRP-recovery and install CM12.1 with GApps.
Is this the right order?
first stock, then custom recovery and then you can flash rom and gapps
