Casting now possible from Chrome Mobile !! - Google Chromecast

Just wanted to bring to everyone's notice that casting works full time while playing vidoes on Chrome on mobile !!

That is great news! I can't wait to try it out. When did that change get implement ed?

I thought this was old news. Been doing this now for weeks. I assumed it came with the newer google play services that allows beta screen casting on select devices

Months ago - It was enabled in Android Chrome Beta v34 in March this year, rolled out to Android Chrome stable in v35 in May.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...tab-better-fullscreen-video-support-and-more/

I am talking about main app.....not beta....beta was experimental and never worked !!!
Sent from my GT-I9082 using XDA Free mobile app

Like I said its been in Android Chrome stable since May. It worked just fine when it was in only Chrome beta for me.

Darn can't get it to work on mine....

Thanks

You need to make the video full screen and once you do that you will get a cast icon on the top left corner of the screen !

This has been enabled on my device for quite a while. I happily play videos from Vimeo on my chromecast. :good:

It works for me in Chrome Beta on my tablet, but not in the current official release of Chrome on my phone (Android 4.4.4).
But I wonder how much use this really is. I tested it with Vimeo, but really pretty much every source falls into one of two categories:
a) Already has Chromecast support
or
b) Uses a custom video player, custom DRM or custom app that either you can't play within Chrome on Android or isn't compatible with the Chromecast.

This is confirmed working on US Wifi only 3.2 running the deodexed rom. Excellent find, thanks for posting this
Working! Awesome!
works great, buffers super fast when skipping around too... on WiFi
No effing way.......
Five more hours til i get off work to test this out omg!!!!
Ok, so clearly they have Tegra 2 DRM working.
So the Engadget article about the Lenovo exclusive release to Lenovo's honeycomb tablet means they're artificially restricting downloads of the to other tablets from the market possibly because of a partnership with Lenovo.
( article: http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/20/netflix-to-stream-from-hdmi-equipped-tablets-enable-lo/ )
If so, that's completely scummy.
The DRM crap is BS....
Google has streaming working fine
EDIT: Anybody tested HDMI out?
US wifi, rooted 3.2 here, working fine. Doesn't look very pretty, but my wifi is weak here. HDMI untried.
Ahh! I sent my Xoom to Motorola. I hope they don't patch this before I get my Xoom back.
Doesn't seem to work in Canada.
says the device cannot instantly stream from netflix in your area. Visit ca.netflix.com/NRD to see a full list of devices that instantly stream from netflix.
Omg , thank you !!
works GREAT.
tested on wifi, as well as mobile hotspot using "3.5g" from tmobile nexus one in NYC. great quality. smooth playback.
HDMI works great as well.
however ive always encountered the problem with hdmi that the edges get cut off, especially bottom. anyone know how to fix this?
awesome.
quality seems a little lacking though and when I plugged my HDMI cable in I I had video but the audio cut off on the Xoom and did not resume on the TV
still I'm psyched, been waiting for this
Bout damn time....workin great tiamat 1.1
XOOM
Whats weird about this app is that when installed on the xoom its slightly different, its kind of like they're testing honeycomb support knowing we would rip off the apk. On the xoom landscape works perfectly fine even when browsing through the menus and on the phone, you can't get landscape until the actual movie or show starts playing. just thinking out loud
Edit:nevermind, I see the app officially supports the lenevo tablet
Streaming fine on 3.2 US Wifi

This was like so on the first netflix release.
Something is really wrong with the netflix app, scrolling is so choppy and the whole thing is extremely ugly. My guess is they are using a webframe, might rip open the apk and see what I can find

Any Hope of more (Official) Content?

I'd like to start a thread for news/rumors of more officially supported services.
Not casting web-pages, or demo Apps/Hacks, but Official Apps from other services that support Chromecast.
Any hope?
well hulu and pandora is confirmed, but the main problem right now is the SDK isn't complete (they have a preview one out though).
Once the SDK is done we will start seeing a lot of content I bet.
I am looking forward to bitcasa support. That will be awesome.

I hope so - I think this is the first step of moving away from Broadcast TV for TV entertainment. This is the revolution that Apple had planned to do but didn't. When people do reviews of the Cast I think they miss the largest point. Controlling the content using an interface we all love (phone or tablet) is a giant step forward. Using the built in smart features of a TV or DVD to search for a YouTube video is a terrible experience. You need a link to find most things and those are shared in communication links in your phone.

Ya i thought that is what you were talking about, what else the chromecast will be able to do. Its confirmed it will be able to use hulu and pandora should be comming kinda soon. And HBO, Vimeo, Redbox Instant, Vevo (?), Devour (?), Blip (?) (maybe these are britsh or something, i've never heard of them), have all mentioned they are planning on it.
(where I got the information)

So ya in total we have
right now
youtube
netflix
google play music
google play video
soon
hulu
pandora
HBO go
announced support
Vimeo
Redbox Instant
Vevo
Devour
Blip
plus soon we get the official sdk and we will get 100s of apps I bet
Hulu said they were interested in adding it some day. I wouldn't be expecting it anytime soon. The only real partner besides Netflix announced at launch was Pandora. My guess is Pandora will release an update about the same time the final SDK is released. Google is probably working with Pandora as sort of a beta test of the SDK.

[RELEASE] Cloudcast vs. Chromecast!

Hey y'all,
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
I'm excited to share my latest new app in Google Play: CLOUDCAST
Cloudcast lets you play online entertainment from one Android device to another, from anywhere on the planet! Unlike Chromecast, Cloudcast is NOT limited to your Wi-Fi network and you can stream content from ANY website in your device!
The idea was born out of frustration with Chromecast. Google released Chromecast in the summer of 2013 but did not allow independent developers like us to publish apps for it. Since I spent months writing code for their "preview" SDK, I did not want all my work to go to waste. That is when the idea of Cloudcast was born - why not use any Android device as a player instead of Chromecast and not be limited to the Wi-Fi network!
So here it is finally! Hope y'all find the app useful. Let me know what you think. It's a free app, requires latest Google Play & YouTube apps and runs on Android 2.2 or above.
Cheers!

Look around the interwebs. I've seen the MK808 go for as low as $30 recently.
I have had one for about a year now, paid a bit more for it, and am quite happy with it.
Does all the Android stuff well and now even XBMC (13 beta7) runs great on it, using Finless v1.7 ROM and kisses 720p kernel.

Does Google Play work in MK808? I heard others had issues signing in. I'm looking to get one.
The one I used in the Cloudcast demo is Evoke HDI, runs 4.01 but it's a lot slower than even 1.2 GHz phones.

I picked it up in Fry's, but no one sells them anymore.
I don't understand this part: ''The free version contains ads and can only cloudcast for 10 minutes at a time.''
10 mins only? then what next, because 10 mins is nothing..
Also can I cast all my movies from a Window PC to my Android stick?..Thanks

Sure, when you use Cloudcast you will be installing in two devices - your phone (the browser/remote) and the Android stick (the media player). The free version is for you to test out Cloudcast in your Wi-Fi network or wireless carrier to make sure it's responsive. If you are casting videos < 10 mins then you won't have to upgrade. After 10 minutes the player will stop to give you an option to upgrade or close. You can still continue to use the browser and play locally or cast again. The browser has no time limits. When you upgrade the 10 time limit for the player is removed and the ads at the bottom of the browser are removed as well. Hope it makes sense.
If you are storing movies in a web server in your Windows PC and if you're able to access them from an Android browser (say http://network_pc/movies/...) then you can play and control the movies from your phone to the Android stick. The PC has to stay on and folders shared for the entire movie.
Instead of a web server you can try shared folders, Cloudcast will work if the URL is accessible by a browser (say file:///network_pc/movies...). My Evoke HDI Android box can see shared folders (without a webserver) and it's also possible with a rooted phone. Hope it helps.

The MK808 has had access to Google Play (and Amazon), whether on Stock or custom ROMs, without any issues. There are JellyBean versions out now, but I have mine still on ICS. Good forum for Android sticks (and not-so-mainstream Tablets) is Freaktab.com. Good place to compare the different Android Sticks and set-top-boxes.

Feels nicer than Cheapcast, but I'm realizing these types of apps can never do paid content, right? I can't do netflix. So these will always be a compliment to chromecast, not replacement.
Or, am I not understanding something? How do I play netlfix, hbo go, hulu plus, etc. I have paying accounts for these. Netflix and HBO Go requires you to play in an app. You can't play in the browser, so that means this won't work, correct?
No paid content yet!

Yes, you're absolutely correct. Cloudcast currently cannot play paid content because there is no user authentication at the player end. Netflix won't play in any mobile browser because of their restrictions. Like you said they want you to use their app!
That said, if the content providers offer a way to authenticate in a web browser (oAuth or login), then we can validate the user at both ends (browser and player). I will look further and see if there are providers that offer that option. Will keep you updated.
I'm sure there are apps out there that "cast" without a Chromecast. If there are enough of us to show content providers the value in offering browser based HTML5 delivery model, then they will soon realize that we all don't need to be locked up in Google's walled garden. This is just a spark and I'm hoping to start a fire!
Calling all indie devs who want to cast without a Chromecast!!
Thank you for this great question. I'll be sure to add this in the FAQs.

Why didn't your post the playstore links?
Tried the app, couldn't cast anything (hoped for entire tab casting, later saw it should allow only casting various videos on various webpages).
Maybe it works and would appeal to some but it's not really intuitive..
This gives vGet some competition. Thanks for letting us know.

Check out the Chromecast description, not all videos will cast, and that makes sense.
Amctv.com videos aren't in a format that the native Chromecast player understands.

Thank you. Tab casting is cool idea, but it will drain the phone battery just like screen mirroring (Miracast). Let's see if we can make that happen with Chromecast.

About a month initially with the Chromecast "preview" SDK and then a week to update it after the final SDK was released. It took longer because we didn't use the Cast SDK's companion library. We didn't like the default look and feel of Google's remote control buttons all squished up in one corner of the screen. Hope it helps.
...and with the latest update of vGet and its unusually high cost, this browser looks like a sweet deal. I might give it a better test this time around

Do you need an app to mirror any Android devices to Chromecast?

I am thinking of releasing an app that can mirror any android devices (starting from Android 2.3 up to android 5.1) to Chromecast receiver.
Since google's Chromecast app can support quite a lot devices, I am not sure if there are still enough interests to mirror android devices with old versions?or to mirror new android devices that Chromecast app do not support?
I did develop such an app, but never released it to public, it's working quite well actually.
Please let me know if you are interested in it, and I can post free versions here.
Please , go ahead. and Let us have a look at it .

Have a rooted Nook HD+( on CM12.1 - lollipop 5.1 ) and chromecast 2015(new version). Regular casting works fine, but there is something preventing mirroring . When hitting casting selection the screen abruptly disconnects. I've tried a program called Mirrorenabler and it also will not mirror. A report by someone using CM11 and some custom rom reported mirroring working fine on Nook HD+ so its not a hardware issue. Does anyone have any thoughts ??
Thanks,
Al
In order for Chromecast app mirror to work, google play services must be installed into system partition. Your android most likely does not have it.
Our Chromecast sender app does not use Google play services, so it should work, please visit this thread later for the apk.
Hey,
I can also confirm that unfortunately on Nook HD+ on CM12.1 mirrorenabler doesn't work, nevertheless on cm11 latest built mirror enabler works great. But still both CM11 and CM12.1 for me are unstable, actually cm12.1 is worst for me getting a lot of download and apps installation slow down, on cm11 I get a lot of keyboard droppings when typing in the browser but gennerally the experience is a lot better.
So would love to test on stock (4.0.4) your app apparently with root.
Thanks

My CM12.1 on Nook HD+ is not as good as 5.01 that I previously had. If you get Trickster Mod ( to increase responsivness ) and increase read ahead buffer 768 and get Glove Xperia ( to adjust screen sensitivity if needed ) you might like CM12.1 better
