Dialer built-in search absent ? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Until yesterday I was using Nexus 5 and since today my brand new Moto X but I noticed that a very useful function doesn't seems to be there: the built in search in the dialer.
Is it because of this?
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...ually-on-other-kitkat-roms-download/#download
Is it still exclusive to Nexus line !?
Any way to make it work on our Moto X ?
P.S. The apk of the link is the old one, the new one is this: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...-4-3-works-on-android-4-4-2-too-apk-download/
And has the same colours of the one in Moto X 2014

It has always been exclusive to Nexus devices. You can try side loading the Nexus dialer.

Its not true its only for nexus devices. Google play edition devices get it as well. I have it on my HTC m8 that was converted to GPE

I wonder if the pure gets it?

I have the pure edition and it doesn't have it. I just tried using the dialer from my m8. Its the same deal as the old one. You can have the google dialer but need to have the standard dialer installed as well. I tried removing the dialer and using just the google dialer with the teleservice apks and that didn't work at all. Settings kept fcing. Then I restored the stock teleservice apk but left the Google dialer. That made the call but then while in call you can't access the phone so you can't end the call, use the dial pad etc.. The last thing was restore the stock dialer and keep both the stock dialer and the google dialer with the stock teleservice and that seemed to work but incoming calls are routed through the stock dialer, not the google one.

I downloaded the dialer apk in the link and it seems to work now. Just use the app "AppHider" to hide the duplicate phone icon. It doesn't disable the apk so phone calls will work. You need to be rooted for the app to work though

How are you guys using voice mail on this rom? Visual voicemail or something else?
Some use Google voice, others are using VVM, myself included.
Method 2 on the Wiki worked for me

Click to collapse
VVM is what I use. Working great.
There are lots of folks using the Sprint VVM. There are posts in the wiki on how to install it and get it to work.
I have always used sprint vvm and I couldn't get it to work so I switched to google voice and I love it! Don't think I would go back to vvm
I switched back to VVM cause when I was in Google Voice Mail the phone was taking way to long to go to voicemail it used to ring for ever on the other end...
I use google voice sss well, have sinceas the day I rooted (vvm wouldn't work on the custom rom I used). I don't know about trying to call it as the previous post stated, because between the app and net on my computer, I've always checked and cleared it without having to call.

i set up Google Voice since the VVM mod was only for earlier version of clockwork (not an edify update). GV seems to be working just fin, just need to figure out the test messaging now.
Hey I am using AOSP 2.3.2 and the screen on/off animation is a bit sluggish, anyone else having this issue? I changed the LCD density to 140 like the Wiki said and it still is a bit laggy, any suggestions?
Also my screen scrolling and opening the apps drawer was a little slow and jerky so I got ADW Launcher EX and it fixed the problem. Just thought I would add that if anyone else was having an issue.
BTW love the ROM, I was very happy to see Gingerbread on the hero!

Google Contacts search

Does anyone have the nexus 5 Google contacts search apk that also searches web for local. I.e entering pizza in contacts would show result of local pizza restaurants that are not in your phone contacts. Need apk as my phone is not rooted.

I do
It works but force crashes every time you try to call the number...
FC on 442 no root.
Yekollu, thanks for link, installed but its the same as the old one. Still does not web search as part of the contact search. Looks like it a nexus only facility.

Found this to enable root is required and permission changes http://m.pocketnow.com/2013/12/26/install-google-dialer
Since I've no root can only hope that 4.4.3 update will sort ( that's if we get it).

[Q] 2 Calendar apps in app drawer?

Hello I have 2 calendar apps in my app drawer (both Google). One of them seems to have the AOSP calendar app icon and the other the Play store icon which can be uninstalled as well. But the thing is I never really downloaded the calendar app from play store andy Moto X is 100% stock so how is this possible? Anyone else experiencing this?
Well mine came just with the AOSP one. But either way it doesn't really matter.
You can always just delete the Google one if it bothers you. Otherwise I would recommend the one from Google because it gets regular updates.

[Help] Inverted contacts apk.

I'm running a rooted Moto X with Krypton ROM 1.4.1 and his latest kernel (0006 I think) I like to run this bad boy all blacked out and I have done so with everything but the contacts app. I have the TBO apps and xposed rocking.. But I can't get any contacts app to invert. I flash and the app shows in the priv app file but not in the drawer. Wont show up anywhere but in priv app folder. I try to use my dialer to access it out days no program available to access that info. I've flashed about 5 different versions and pushed the same amount. I've wiped so much it hurts and I've fixed permissions a ton....... Can anyone help me? It's driving me batty not having a blacked out contacts.

Eclipse comes with a inverted contacts.
Eclipse one didn't work.... But I flashed the Ultima ROM one and it worked. It's got gradient and isn't pure black but it's a lot better than white.

OK google everywhere?

Is there a way for me to get OK google with the screen off or at least on any screen on this device ? I'm running a custom CM based ROM rooted so I Dont have moto voice so this would be nice if anyone can help

The only way to replicate moto voice is through the app called OpenMic. It's not exactly the same but it gets close once it's been properly configured.
