Facebook being blocked when tethering!!

I have a Fuze set up for tethering using the native "Internet Sharing" app on AT&T.
It's set up using MediaNet (I'm not paying the tethering monthly fee).
As far as I can tell - everything is working as it has for a long time now
EXCEPT Facebook. I've tried multiple browsers and got nothing.
When I brought up a proxy Facebook came up with all the normal glitches of a proxy so that's not a permanent solution.
Any ideas?

same here, tried going on facebook and it shows i cant go on the site idk if its facebook or AT&T or both, but i know for a fact the mobile version of facebook works, m.facebook.com but no comfirmation of the full version, ill look around and see whats the problem but like i said it could be either AT&T or facebook or both tbh

Yep.. im in a hotel right now and im blocked.. Pretty pissed about it might call ATT if it isnt resolved by tomorrow..

It is also blocked using WMWifiRouter in Wifi mode.

Oh wow - so this is bigger than AT&T blocking me personally...

My m.facebook (pulling it up on my phone) also works fine
I would call AT&T, but I'm not paying for tethering so I doubt they'll be too receptive
What doesn't make sense to me is why would they block just Facebook? Why not block everything from us non-payers if they have this ability? Not saying I want that - but it just seems odd
Can a paying tethering customer tell us if you can still get on Facebook??

I thought I was just having some strange FB issue. I cannot go on using my tethered connection or my desktop at work anymore... Very strange...

its odd that att added facebook to their list but its ineviteble the block lots of site on their dns i found this out months ago when megavideo sudenly stoped working the best work around is to not use their dns its slow and crappy use opendns is fast and free even warns you against malware site you might be tricked onto clicking on. its what i use its alot more reliable than a cloaking site or proxys.

I use Walking Hot Spot for WiFiRouting on my ATT Fuze. I just tried to open facebook and it worked fine. I did not log-in as I do not have a facebook account, but I could browse to the site.

I had the same issue last week, got around it by using OpenDNS servers. Configure the network connection in Windows to the listed dns servers on their site and BAM, everything worked great again.

I dont have that problem...

Tether not loading images

I'm using wifi-tether and also tried usb tethering and my internet works, but no images ever load up. Laptop doesn't have any problems, as it loads pictures fine when I'm connected to my FIOS service. Anyone have a clue as to why?

Have you considered the possibility that this may be related to your ISP? Tethering works, and the components used for tethering in the phone don't care if you are receiving an HTML file or a PNG image -- data is data.

My ISP is Tmobile USA. I'm on the east coast

I also have Tmo, and notice this too. The strange thing is that the image will load in the phone browser, but not in my computer browser when tethered.

Since you mentioned it might be ISP related, I decided to provide the name of my ISP in hope of someone posting a way to circumvent the problem.

Rather than mentioning it (which is useless), you need to TEST it and post RESULTS.

How would I prove that. I believe all http data comes in the same port. I can't view pictures while they're integrated into webpages, but if I type in the URL of the jpg it would load by iteself.

All WiFi profiles getting deleted periodically

My phone configuration
AT&T Note 3
Stock firmware, rooted with TowelRoot, few modifications with wanam.
Haven't changed/modified anything system level on phone other than few visual changes with Wanam Xposed
Problem
All the saved wifi profiles are getting deleted. Happened twice in last month. I do not see any reason why it happened. Today, I came to work, it connected to wifi. An hour later I saw that phone disconnected from wifi and was using mobile data. I went to wifi setting to find that all the saved wifi profiles were deleted. (It only showed one saved profile "attwifi" profile which I think is the default comes with the phone). Now I have to save all wifi profiles again for work, home, friends' homes etc.
Solution
This is where you come in the picture.
Has any one of you seen something similar?
Is it a known issue?
Can this be related to Google "Sync App Data"? Is Google syncing empty wifi profiles for some reason?
Do you guys know solution/workaround for this?
(I will update the solution section when there is a solution available, so all future readers don't have to pile through pages of comments to find the right solution)

I've been having this issue. It's a PITA!
I am not rooted.

I assume this issue is very rare and only few of us are seeing it. That's why nobody is replying to this thread. A quick google search found a lot of similar forums but no solution

It's not particularly rare- in fact I have a different but similar situation: my phone will not discover new SSID's, thus cannot connect to them.
You'll find this website isn't always helpful; this thread has had hundreds of views, yet no responses.

Mine does the exact same thing as yours. Every couple of weeks or so all of my wifi networks just disappear. I've tried googling with no success. I just can't seem to find an answer either. I even have general/backup and reset/backup my data unchecked. My Note3 did this both when I was unrooted and now that I am rooted. It is a real pain.

Well, lets hope that someone will have a fix for that in the future. The WiFi profiles are getting wiped like once a month so its not very annoying but I hope it doesn't wipe my SD card or my personal data.
I have unchecked the Google backup for now, lets see if it fixes the issue.

@K-Alzwayed has a great thread going with a bunch of fixes it looks like #2 in his thread might fix this, you might want to check it out and see if that works for you

For a workaround (needs root), try saving a copy of the wifi configuration file and then the next time you lose your settings overwrite the file with the backup version

I just made the change to the build.prop file so I hope this is the solution. Time will tell...

T-Mobile auto block

Hello everyone I was wondering if it were possible to be blocked from tethering. I've read all the posts on how to reenable it, and even tried the WiFi tether router app. It all worked but suddenly two days ago while I was searching the net on my laptop, the T-Mobile upsell page popped up and hasn't left since. I've tried unrooting and relocking the phone then rerooting it. I've tried stock rooted and chroma custom ROM. Any help is appreciated

so ive seen youve used your tethering allotment. every tmobile "contract" comes with tethering included to them, besides for prepaid. its unlimited tethering for the limited plans, and 3.5gb tethering for the unlimited high speed data option. nothing like what you have done will do anything. i use the tether router app, as tmobile doesnt see me tethering when i use it. theres also an option for a build.ptop edit that will help as well.

That's what I'm saying. I've done that to where they saw me as using my data and not my tethering. For me now it doesn't work anymore. The build prop edit nor the app nor the sqlite settings.db route

Maybe they're getting clever. In the uk they use deep packet analysis to find out where the packets are coming from.

that happens. before any hacks were available, i tethered my whole home internet, until google caught on. then i used their legal tethering for a few years. last year i started using the wifi router app, and they havent seen me tethering yet. eventually, theyll catch on again.

Is there no fix to this?

you can try editing your build.prop and any of the other mods(search the n6 or n5 forums).

So they blocked you even with the build prop and SQLite edit? That sucks because I use that and I don't want to be capped when tethering.

Yes they did and I've tried unrooting and rerooting try to fix the problem. I've even used the WiFi tether router app by Fabio Grasso, currently he's trying to help me get it to work. I've been reading around that this is happening to T-Mobile customers though. Haven't really seen any other carriers with this problem.

I wonder how they are checking for tethering and if they are using deep packets as another member suggested. I'm hoping someone will find a work around because after all this is why we have android phones.

Just got off the phone with T-Mobile. It is confirmed that the methods around the tether limit do not work. Once you reach your limit they block you. As for neither method works anymore.

that is weird. i have been using my Tmobile N6 as my main source of internet at home, i have unlimited data and i use it to watch netflix and play xbox live and i have not had one single problem. using tethering right now as i type this.

Work will supposedly start denying access to the wifi to rooted/jailbroken devices

So yeah, assuming their efforts is successful and they manage to set up their wifi to deny access to rooted devices, is there anyway around this without unrooting?

There used to be a module called Root Cloack(er) for Xposed frameworks that hides root, don`t know if there is a version for Marsmellow though. Its here on the XDA forums somewhere.

But how? I can't think of any way to detect a rooted/jailbroken phone from a Wifi connection, without you having to install or run some other piece of software/script that would give them that information.

I'm not sure. I would not put it past my company to make us install such a script in order to access wifi.

Many places are doing this. Detecting root is simple. Even Snapchat and others are doing it. Heck they are even looking for xposed and won't work if detected.
You would be amazed at what info people can get from your device when it's connected to wifi

a lot of info sure... But an app running on your phone detecting it, vs detecting that something is installed simply by connecting to their network? Your phone passes along a lot of info... but not installed binaries?
I could see them maybe having a black list, like if you're connecting the the exposed repositories your likely rooted... but if you are not using programs that require root access and communicate over the network, how are they doing this?

A simple request for the info. Have you ever looked at a logcat and saw everything running. I could be gone for weeks and come home and tell you every device that has ever connected to my network the whole time I was gone and with the right things in place could even tell if they are rooted or jailbroken

I can see the same as the poster above me on our network, it is not hard at all. And if we had such a policy and you used a cloaker I would have you fired.
Their network, their rules. I really don't think you should do this.

Can you provide any links or further detail? Obviously by viewing system logs you can tell whats running.... but I have never seen any standard network function to request a connected device to send logs without permission? Google searching the topic provides little info as its saturated with info on how to root, and using root for ad blocking.
Even a brief overview of the setup you would use to check? What are "the right things" and what "place" would the need to be in?

I wont get into it too deeply as I have my guys that watch this site as well and If they go around my security setup like with exchange pin request or using some devices on my network I will fire them on the spot. Lets just say the router logs everything that is done on the network. Connect your device to your wifi and then watch a logcat. You should be able to see what you are looking for.
Understand that unless approved by me no device can connect to my network. With the right router you can see everything about a device. you wont find much info on google as things like this are kept close to the chest with the IT crowd

No one here is trying to connect to your network. It's XDA and people are curious. I agree that it's silly to circumvent measures used by the company you work for (assuming you want to keep working there), but I also find it strange that you connect to a network and have that router, etc tell if your phone has a specific binary and apk. Is that what you are claiming happens?

This is not possible to limit an android version via network traffic, the best they could do is catch you updating cyanogenmod and ban your mac by guessing that your rooted, but its so much work, its a bunch of empty threats.

It can yes. And you are right this is XDA but you would be amazed at what info is not shared here or anywhere except between IT managers or other devs.
Once connected to a network it is not that hard to get everything from a device. This is why all the warnings about connecting to open networks. While Open networks are more of a risk it goes to show that anything can be done.
This has been a practice for a very long time even back to the WM days when roms encluded time bombs that would make the rom not work after a set time and date.

It's all smoke and mirrors to me until someone explains how it's possible to read files on a device by a user just connecting to a network and providing no further interaction. Sure you can get the device MAC, name, etc, but that's not how I read your statements. As mentioned in the post above yours, you can guess on network traffic, etc, but I really doubt anyone can "know everything".

Its not guessing network traffic. You can tell exactly what sites they go to. You can tell if they are using a mobile or desktop browser. (same way the carriers do it to prevent teethering)
All it takes is being connected to a network to be infected with a virus. Just how do you think that happens?
No one is gonna explain it. Just like we dont allow talks about network penetration. There are just something that are best not out in public view.
Here is an older example of how they detected jailbroken iphones on school networks.

I am specifically referring to detecting that a binary and an apk exist on a device SOLELY based on establishing a network connection (not viruses, not websites visited...user does nothing and no new code/software runs on the device). That does not seem probable to me.
It may just be semantics, but that's how I interpreted your original statement.
Of course network admins can see what sites users visit, what browser they use, etc and there is no guessing - only logs [emoji3]. I was using guessing in different sense (ie, you see something "suspicious" and draw conclusions).

Wow.... if i ever get fired after i found out they are 'reading' files on my device... this will be case for a courtn no doubt! I'm sure (at least where i live) the one that fires you based on such actions will have a big problem!

If you read the link they showed how to detect cydia which showed them it was jailbroken. The same thing can be done on android.

You would lose. When you agree to use their network you agree to all their rules. This is the main reason for things like Knox. As more and more place move to a "right to work" setup where they dont need a reason to fire you at all. I would be careful about what rules one does break. Gone are the days where we could get away with things like this.
You know this got me thinking. Maybe I will play around with my network and see what I can find out. I have to block root and xposed users anyway so this would be a great challenge. Might be awhile as I revert all my PC back to windows 7.

That's why most mobile device management (MDM) products include a feature that let IT block rooted devices from connecting to the secure network or accessing corporate assets. But these products must be able to detect rooted devices before they can block them, and there are ways users can get around those detection mechanisms. I didn't see a link in Tapatalk or Chrome mobile. As for me, I see no reason why I'd ever want to connect my personal smartphone to my work network. Thanks for the discussion.
