I have a Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 (S6500XXLK2) and I want to root it to try to install a kitkat rom.
I followed many different methods to root it but none with success.
I'm starting to think that there is an hardware problem becuase I'm not able to connect the device to kies, neither to odin. If I use Kingo root it doesn't recognize it.
The strange thing is that if I connet it to my linux pc I can connect via usb and I am able to access the device as a memory storage.
It there a method to root from linux?

Try to unnistall your samsung usb drivers, and download and install the latest! check your usb drivers and settings in bios! if it is recognized in linux , it is a driver problem! take a look in device manager!

Happy new year all,
I have a 8.9 wifi only 32gb amazon.com version 7310.
I can’t get it to connect to my windows PCs (multiple PCs) ANYMORE…I have the drivers installed, but when I plug it in, windows will ask me for the driver and when it tries to install it I get an error (device not installed properly).
Some history:
I have the usb driver (“GT-p7510_USB_Driver_v1_3_2360_0-Escape.exe”) installed from the thread: “[GUIDE]Root, Bootloader Mode, ODIN, Recoveries & NANDROID Backup [7300/7310]”
Fresh off the box I hooked the tab up to my windows XP PC using the above driver and my PC recognized it. Also ODIN connected too.
I installed CWM (“Overcome_CWM_Recovery_v5.1.2.6_P73xx.zip”) from the above thread and rooted the tab using the root file (“Root.zip”) also from the above thread.
After that I couldn’t get the tab to be recognized from my PCs. But ODIN still works.
BTW, I’ve also tried Samsung Kies but it did not work (couldn’t connect to the tab).
I did a hard reset but I still have the same problem!!!
I need to be able to move files from my PC to the tablet as fast as possible. Wifi works but it is slower than usb 2.0!!!
Any help?
Thank you,
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers, restarting, then installing again? Sometimes Windows is a bit iffy. Also, the drivers from Kies are kinda different and tend to conflict (happened to me once). Another tip I'll give you: certain ROMs tend to hate having USB Debugging set to ON at Settings > Applications > Development. They just won't connect through USB while having that set to ON. I found this behavior on Android 3.1 ROMs, haven't had it in the KJ5 firmware and it's been almost two months with it. Best of lucks solving this!
issue solved by re installing the kies
Thank you for your suggestion.
Re installing kies and the latest kies update solved the issue.
Used to work fine, last time I connected was doing an upgrade about 3 weeks ago to the UCLA modem and kernel and 2.3.6 ROM.
Today I tried to connect via USB to transfer a new book I'd downloaded, and Windows didn't recognize the device. Has the error USB Device not recognized.
It shows on the device in the status area that MTP is installed, and it says on the device that USB is connected.
Tried everything. I have the latest version of Kies, uninstalled and re-installed. Deleted the device, let windows re-install it. The tablet charges fine via the same cable. I've tried different USB ports.
My Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket connects on the same computer, seen by Kies, can transfer USB. Works on the same USB port!
And of course I have USB debugging turned on.
Any thoughts. I am certain it was due to the change of ROM.
Bump........
Hi Harry_fine,
Try it :
- Disable usb debug mode
- Lock the screen <-- very important step.If you don't do this, kies doesn't recognize the Tab*
- Connect Tab via USB to Win7 64Bit
- Start Kies
To get kies to recognize the tab, you need to have the original touchwiz launcher set as the default launcher
I seen this on other post. May be it can help you.
Good luck.

Are you sure you are in correct forum? I have never heard about UCLA modem or 2.3.6 ROM for GT8.9
Latest modem we have is KJ6 and Android version should be 3.2
Sorry, I was confusing this with my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.
This is 2.6.36.3 kernel, Android 3.2, which I think is the latest official stock for the Tab. I think I used P7300XWKL4_P7300ATOKI1_P7300XXKJ6_HOME.tar.md5 for the upgrade.
Didn't work, same problem. Anyone else?
Tried a solution I found online, found some very long file extensions on the SDCARD, removed them, rebooted phone, and now no problem connected as a drive using MTP, and installing driver.
so what's the solution??

Simply install the drivers, reboot the PC, then connect the device.

i have a galaxy note 10.1 and it didnt recognize not even the Adapter Cable.....
I have Samsung P7300
just want to root it, but my PC does not even recognize it. not even Kies..
done all the things searching on XDA and other sites, but still the same Problem,
I cant even find the MTP thing under USB Storage.
I can Connect my Samsung galaxy S Plus i9001 to it.
i have installed/uninstalled Drivers, and kies many times.
My problem is why there is NO MTP Option in this device, it is not even rooted.
.
I'm trying to root my friend's Rogers Captivate i896 using Odin but can't get the computer to recognize the device. I tried installing the drivers mentioned throughout other threads. I've tried uninstalling Keis, uninstalling the drivers, connecting to different USB ports, tried several computers/laptops running XP & Win7, tried USB desbugging on/off, tried "mass storage/kies firmware update/ask when connected."
He got the phone with Eclair and when it became available he then updated to Froyo through Keis. Ever since that update he hasn't been able to get any computer to recognize the phone. When I root my sgs i9000 I did have an issue with "mtp application error" that ended up being a missing driver but with this i896 model I've tried several different drivers and still nothing.
I can't root if the Odin can't 'see' it, or is there another way? Any others out there that have had success? Any help is much appreciated.
First of all, you don't use Odin to root it. Odin won't see it when the phone is on; only in download mode. You will just need SuperOneClick in order to root.
It is also unclear whether you are trying to say that Windows won't recognize it, or just Odin
Sent from my ICS Samsung Captivate
Windows in general won't recognize it. Even when I connect it to a mac, I hit the 'connect storage to pc" and it says it's connected but the internal/external hd do not mount. I used odin to root and put a rom (darky10.2) on my sgsi9000 and used the same instructions because the same steps also work for the captivate. I thought I read somewhere that I use Odin to go from Froyo to Gingerbread?
I'll looking at a SuperOneClick youtube vid & it says to connect the device to the pc & run superOneClick on the pc but how will that work if the issue is that the pc's can't detect the phone in the first place? btw thanks for the help.

Sure, you can use Odin/Heimdall to flash any stock firmware, but it's not going to help you if the phone can't be recognized. It sounds like something is physically malfunctioning. Are you using the USB cable that came with the phone? I suspect that either the cable or USB port is malfunctioning.
I thought the same thing but I am using the cable that came with the phone and I tried different ports. I also tried different laptops running different versions of windows. So strange. Ah well thanks for the help.
I had a similar problem with my captivate before I changed the ROM, but only on one particularly stubborn computer. I ended up having to go through this process to get my phone to connect:
- Uninstall the USB driver
- Reboot computer
- Connect phone with debugging off
- Install USB driver
- Reboot computer
- Connect phone with debugging on.
After that, it worked just fine in whatever mode I wanted.
You may have already tried that process, but if not I hope it helps.
Hi there
I would like to root my annoying Samsung Note 5. My usb port only charges it does not work with data at all. It has been replaced to no avail. What process / software (ADB?) can I use to root my phone? Once rooted I intend to install TWRP and use a custom rom.
I have tried Kingoroot but it was unsuccessful.
Thanks!
I too would like an answer as my phone has done the same thing. Won't quick charge via cable and an Windows does not recognize the device error connecting to Windows on any PC.
Have you installed the official Samsung drivers? Try that then install Odin. Put the phone into download mode and launch Odin, see if it detects the device. If so, you might have a chance.
Helllo can anybody help me root my phone and install twrp without pc, as i am unable to connect my phone to pc. I installed the phone drivers but still wont recognize.
Change your cable
Try linux
