Once a day, and sometimes once every other day the screen will naturally go to sleep after a minute or whatever I have it set to, and then wont come back on. I know its just the screen because I can click volume buttons and hear the volume adjustment beep, and when I click the power button I can see the soft keys light up at the bottom of the phone, and then darken again when I click the power again.
The only fix I have found is to hold (POW + VOL UP + VOL DWN) until the phone force shuts down.
I have an AT&T M7 running the latest CM11 nightly.

Test it on another ROM and if the issue occures there too, it's likely a Hardware issue. Then you have to live with it or send it in to the warranty service.
But since it's a CM11 nightly it is likely a ROM related issue, so wait for an update or just change to the stable version.

I can not seem to get my NC to power off completly. I have tried holding the power button for 15 seconds and I have tried holding the power button then hitting the power off completly soft button that appear's.
The screen turns off ... but when I go back later to turn on my NC it was only in sleep mode.
Any thoughts ?
Holding just the power button and the home button until it powers down works for me to fully power down. Sometimes I need to hold both again to turn back on.
Could it be that the Nook is powering on by itself after a power down? I've run into this a couple times so far. As well, for the longest time my 2.1 Milestone had this problem. I would do a full power down, and some time after the phone would boot up by itself. This was later addressed in a small update to the 2.1 that I'm running on the phone.

Mmmmm well this situation would suck. Not sure how to fix this then. It does seem like it is powering down and rebooting itself a bit later .. ?
I only have to hold the power button for two or three seconds, then the power off dialog box appears.
I was coming from Cyanogenmod nightlies, and was trying to flash stock, but the phone just randomly shut off and it won't turn back on. When I hold down the power button the only response I get is the home and back buttons will blink white for the duration of me pressing down the button. Thank you for any possible help.

Can you get into the boot loader?
Keep holding down power button. Button lights will blink for about 12 secs, then let go of power and hold down vol down until bootloader pops up.
via ONE.

Hi. This just happened to me as well, trying to flash CM 10.1.3 to get a GPS lock from a sense rom. Problem is, I can't get to the bootloader and the menu/back lights don't stop flashing. So there's no point where they stop flashing and I can then use the volume button to get to the bootloader. And they stay lit even when I am not pressing anything. I could use some help here.. hate to think I've bricked this very expensive slab of metal. Thanks.
Same problem.
Somebody please help.
EDIT:
Solved. Bright light trick.
Shine a bright light on it and press + hold power and vol down. Make sure the twin sensors aren't covered.
Thanks guletz - you just saved me a call (or a visit) to the Sprint store.
Phone in call...

This is also happening to most of the sprint 4.3 custom roms. Not sure if everyone is building on top of the same rom image or fimrware issues...let me know if anyone is getting the same issues after flashing any of the sprint custom roms.

Hi,
Hold down your Power and both Volume buttons until the lights stop flashing and it turns off, try this under a bright light if it fails to work.
If neither works, plug into your PC and use
Code:
adb reboot
I try, but same. volume up+power, both+power...
I cant connect with USB

Try keep the power button pressed for at least 30 sec. Or volume DOWN+ POWER the same time
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
dont plug your phone in. put it under a bright light and hold power+volume down. make sure your finger isnt covering the light sensor
it Can't boot....Hold power button and volume down, it not booting..
I try with HTC One toolkit to reboot, but i have message: ERROR: DEVICE NOT FOUND.
What is p?
This a trick that has worked for me every time, with the Aroma freeze.
First hold down volume button, right after hold down the power button.
The Home and Back button will flash, count it to 12 times let go of power button and push it back in, while constantly holding the volume button down.
This should get you back to hboot. Hope this works for you, has always for me
thnks Xstop, but same, at me not working,,,
Will reboot if battery die?
just keep trying it and make sure your fingers are not covering the light sensor
There is only one solution that I read here which worked for me.
Hold the device under direct light (like from a strong bulb or something) and keep holding the power button, and the device will turn off. Afterwards, hold the power button as well as the Volume Down button and it will boot into bootloader.
I am not sure why that works, but it does. The sensors need to be receiving the light directly, I guess?

Worked...Thnks a lot
I use "Flashlight" from SGS3, and reboot for 5 sec...
Yeah, that's what I did, too. Lol.
Glad it worked.
Hi all
My girlfriend's sister got a Moto G 2014 this past Christmas.
It's unlocked, and I THINK she already got the 5.0 upgrade.
Yesterday she dropped the phone into me as "all of a sudden it stopped working"
The phone is bootloopin. The white Motorola powered by Android screen will come up, it buzzes, and restarts the phone.
The battery ran out by itself, but that made no difference.
Put the phone on the charger, pressed the power button after a while and same thing happened.
Only difference is that now every now and again it also shows the 0% empty battery screen.
Read around here somewhere about getting into the recovery and wiping the cache partition might solve this, but the button combinations I've seen online (pwr+up/dwn or pwr+up) don't seem to be working.
AND to make it worse, she obviously has no receipt for this.
So please... any ideas?
Charging for just a few minutes may not not be enough. You need to charge it for an hour or so then try to boot to recovery.
Charge it for 1-2hrs..then press power+voldown button together.. Hold it for 5 secs and release them together.. Now tell me whether the bootloader opens or not?

Unfortunately, as soon as the phone starts charging it turns itself on and goes into boot loop.
No buttons pressed or anything, as soon as it stars getting charge it's on!

While plugged in, you should be able to hold the power down until the screen goes black, it may take a few seconds.

Nope, no matter the duration of holding the button, it just keeps on bootlooping.
It's not even holding a charge as it starts bootlooping as soon as there's some juice in it.
Never seen anything like it!

Since it is booting or at least trying to, have you tried holding just the volume up or volume down by itself through one of those bootloops. I mean just keep holding the volume button without touching the power button. This is the major fault I can find with a non-removable battery. You can't easily remove the battery, which will fix some common problems.

Volume Up button doesn't stop bootloop.
Volume Down button DOES stop bootloop.
Afterwards:
Power button - Back to bootloop
Power button plus Volume Down button- Back to bootloop
Power button plus Volume Down buttonfor 5 seconds then release - Back to bootloop
No button pressing - Back to bootloop after 15/20 seconds by itself
Randomly throughout the day, my phone changes the ringer volume from vibrate to the lowest sound tick on the ringer. This happens at least 5 times per day (usually more) as long as the privacy switch isn't set to a silent mode. This happens on OOS, lineage, RR, etc. This happens to both me and a friend all the time. He bought his 3T a few weeks after I got mine, we're both bootloader unlocked, have different versions of TWRP, he runs OOS and I run Sultan's lineage build normally. Basically we're both extremely annoyed at this little issue. We cannot figure out why it's happening but it happens to both of us regardless of ROM or firmware version. This has to be a software issue, what are the chances that we both got devices with a hardware issue. I have a 64gb gray, he has a 128gb black, purchased about a month apart, no way we have phones from the same batch. Any help to fix this annoying little issue would be greatly appreciated.
Is you phone in your pocket when it happens? Any chance it can be something as simple as the power & vol rocker being pressed when the phone is in your pocket? Reason I say power & vol rocker, is that both would need to be pressed for the vol to change (pressing vol up/down when screen is off will normally do nothing).
Hasn't happened to me on this phone. But on my old M8, once in a while when crouching down (with phone in my pocket), the power button would be depressed long enough to reboot the phone. Although the power button was on the top of that phone (and easier to accidentally depress, I would think). I was starting to think there was some hardware/software fault making the phone reboot; before I realized it was just me depressing the button on accident.

It happens even after sitting still on my desk after an hour of not being touched. It's been going on ever since I've had the phone. Definitely not accidental presses

I know that with some custom ROMS, it works in sets of three.
Alarms/priority/all notifications
Total silence/vibrate/ring
At least it's what I've noticed. And only with a few custom ROMS.
Hope this helps.
