Hello,
I have an Xperia Z1 that has died. I've got a device protection plan so the good news is a replacement is on its way. However when it arrives I will have to return the dead phone. My question is the following: is it possible to erase data from an Xperia Z1 that won't turn on? I've had the phone for a while and, of course, there is tons of personal data on the device and I'd like to ensure that information is protected.
It should be noted that the phone is also not accessible from my PC and that technicians have suggested it likely cannot be repaired (hence the replacement.)
Any advice is greatly appreciated as I've been unable to locate an answer.
Many thanks :good:

Hi
If the device is completely DEAD so there is no way to turn it on again. That means there is no way to access those data. You can't delete them and no one can see them because the phone is DEAD.

Actually that's not true. Motherboard is dead but Sony can repair it, and if internal storage is not damaged they can se the data. Sometimes official repair center can get repaired motherboard for spare parts, that's the reason why you must take back dead phone to them. But good news is that they erase internal storage completly if they repair motherboard. I worked in Sony repair center so I know that for sure.

I watched a video of a guy rooting his Xperia z and noticed he had a live walpaper that moved like the Playstation.
Does anyone know where I could find this? I tried looking in the play store with no luck.

I'm sorry, but that is a really irresponsible thing to suggest.
To anybody reading this thread and thinking of trying that : NEVER do this. You can possibly hard brick your device if you disconnect it when Flashtool is writing to it.

If you knew that, then you should have warned them before suggesting it.
If they had bricked their phone, who would pay for a new one? You?
People come here and ask questions because they trust the people here to give proper advice, not guess work and dangerous procedures.

A soft brick is recoverable most of the time and not a huge problem. The worst that usually happens is that you have to wipe the phone and lose your data.
A hard brick means the end and an expensive repair or a new device. If that had happened, then what? You would say sorry and move on while they would be left with a dead phone.
Just be careful what you advise people to do, that's all I'm saying. People ask here because they don't know about these things and the risks involved.

x10 and XZ are different models don't experiment.
Download your phone models firmware and flash
Please use SUS/Emma if flashtool does not resolve your issue
suggest you to take it to a service center instead of hard bricking the phone if all methods fail

Hi all want to get latest stock KitKat 4.4.4 to start my experience with XZ will move on to custom recovery/Roms later
Should I use flashtool or PCcompanion?
I have so far rooted using Towelroot ...but I think Towelroot will no longer work after flashing 4.4.4
taking this very slowly so as not to screw anything up straight away...I'm used to flashing Galaxy S2/S3 in my sleep
Flash it with flashtool for cleaner installation. But backup your data.
To root there is a guide in general section for how to root on locked bootloader.

So, month or so ago, I got Xperia Z from my brother. At that time it was on 4.2.2, so I flashed Generic 4.4.2 ftf on it right away. What I noticed is that "about" says that phone model is C6603, which is LTE model, but as I remember it was C6602, which is regular model. Also on the lower part of the phone there is printer that its C6602 and today I also checked Imei, which again says it's C6602. So what happened? Which model it really is? Did flashing wrong rom did anything or is it dangerous for phone in any way?
P.S. There is no LTE in my country so I can't test it.

Because you look like flashed a custom kernel that don't have the WiFi and Bluetooth files. So that's why. If you really did that or deleted the files in system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima try to flash stock ROM again.

Just go to Update Service within Pc companion. There must be an option Repair my phone or something. it will do a clean install of the os. Beware - it will wipe all data on phone so backup first.
