Magnets? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody know if the Nexus 6 will have magnets in the back like the Nexus 5 and 7 for alignment with chargers like the official Nexus charger and the AirDock?

Any docks with pogo pin support?

I'm probably going to wait for this http://www.gear4.com/android/
or if something interesting comes out that uses the pogo pins, but I haven't seen anything yet.
found this one...

Hard to believe no one has a simple landscape charging dock that uses the pogo pins yet, haven't even seen a pre-order announcement.
It probably won't be landscape for the pogo pins seeing as they are quite low down they could fit in a vertical dock. Also seeing as the home screen is vertical I don't see how an official landscape dock would come out.

Be warned, there are reports that this dock has the microUSB port rotated the wrong way so the Nexus 7 would have to be inserted facing backwards.
Am I correct in assuming that a dock is no use except as a paperweight if I'm not willing to remove Nexi™ from his little house?
And yes I'm serious. My toothbrush can charge without actually involving sockety things.
and now i'm starting to wonder why the hell any of my devices have pogo pins, i never find any reasonably dock that uses them for my gnex or the n7....

Its been reported Asus are producing a dock where it sits horizontally for movie watching. The pins are for that.

Nothing a new launcher doesn't fix as far as landscape for the home screen, Also I would think for watching movies, listening to music, etc. having it docked and charging would be a good thing and landscape is no problem.
With the pogo pins, they should be able to put two charging points, one for vertical and one for horizontal without any plugs sticking out and in the way.

The desk mode on the nexus works nicely in landscape with the stock launcher. Drop it in the dock and enjoy your nice new desk clock with multimedia functions
I wonder if they will eventually allow the stock launcher to use landscape fully? (without the need for third parties or dpi fiddles)
Anybody find any more docks?

I've seen plenty of regular micro usb docks and ones with speakers too
philips had some I saw at bestbuy a year ago or so
so keep in mind there are plenty of non pogo options out right now that would support your other micro usb devices too
All I'm looking for is a charging dock stand so it can be used as a clock. I like the one on gadgets4geeks a lot but it's pretty expensive to ship to the USA.

Today at work ive been playing around with one of the Kensington K33239 docks connected through USB-OTG. All ports seem to work except the audio and parallel ports. i managed to get the serial port working with the help of "Slick USB 2 Serial Terminal" as the only real reason i would need a serial port is for works router. works great, except that its only a docking station solution and does not charge the nexus 7 at the same time.

Logitech Bluetooth Aluminum Keyboard & Stand for Bluetooth Enabled Devices

just saw this on onesaleaday.com
Logitech Bluetooth keyboard designed for Galaxy Tab 10.1 but will work with any HID device. Not sure how the N7 would sit but its 10 bucks plus 4.99 shipping. Thinking about rolling the dice on this one

"The smaller tablet is not as good at content creation as its larger siblings, but for those curious about external keyboards I found one that works with the Nexus 7. The Logitech Keyboard Case for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 pairs and works with the Nexus 7, even the special tablet control keys. The Nexus 7 doesn't fit in the stand, though, so it's an iffy pair at best."
I just actually received this keyboard today. It's very high quality, sturdy and typed very quickly when I paired it with my HTV Evo 4G LTE. Unfortunately, my nexus is RMA-ing right now so I'm not able to try it with that. I stuck my old kindle keyboard (about the same size as the nexus 7) in the built-in stand just to see how it fits and it stood fine, however I'm concerned that the nexus 7 might be too thick.
However, if you use this and a decent folio case from amazon, it is BY FAR the cheapest and probably best option I've seen.

only 15 bucks, i ordered a couple. i have Nexus 7, wife has an HTC Flyer.
even if the stand doesn't work, it looks like a good emergency keyboard for the times when we have to do work but don't have a laptop handy.

The link is accurate. Scroll to the bottom of the review. He talks about this specific keyboard's (which is actually a case/keyboard designed for the Galaxy Tab 10.1) built-in stand not fitting the Nexus 7. I'm confused as to where you are confused.

I have about 38 minutes left to pull the trigger. Im not sure what to do. If it doesnt work then im stuck with another piece of tech laying around and the lady will not be happy. On the other hand, I could probably just resell it and make the 15 bucks back and then some.

The onesaleaday.com item is a keyboard stand but it doubles as a "case" where you can "lock" your galaxy tab 10.1 onto the recessed keyboard. The Nexus 7 will not fit that way obviously but Im thinking it will fit in the 'stand' part of it.
EDIT: Galaxy Tab 10.1 Thickness is .33" - Nexus 7 Thickness is .41". Probably will not fit. A couple of mm makes a big difference
If nothing else, its still a cheap bluetooth keyboard solution
I just got mine today in the mail and I'm using it right now to type this and its pretty good, feels well built and connected with no problem. The Nexus doe not fit in the stand to hold it up, its too thick, but I knew that before I bought it, for the price it seems to be worth it 15$ shipped and it has shortcuts to different programs like email and Google Now and can control the volume. I'm happy with it!

Maybe you have the simple car dock which is just a holder..
i have attached a photo to see which one i have.
Do you mean the OEM one with the expanding side arms?
Does it fit in this original dock?
It fits, but you have to align it because of the size difference. You can't just plop it in like with the original Note.
If I keep my Note 2, I'll get the specific dock for it when it comes out.
Corect! DO not use note 1 dock with usb injector.. I have tried it.. it will eventually damage your new note 2 usb lead which is dodgy anyway!

Here are pictures with the Note 1-Dock and -surprise- the S3-Dock (which looks quite similar to the upcoming Note 2-Dock shown at IFA). The Note 1-Dock isn't really perfect, the Note 2 is too small for it.

You could put some duck tape (or other padding) in to make it fit. I'm thinking about applying some myself as it is a rather handy dock.
What about an orizontal dock with usb and HDMI port for connect to external display?

I used 1/16" x 1/2" foam tape, applying 2 strips to the back surface of the original dock and 2 more (cut down to 1/4" wide) down the sides. Slides in perfectly now.

I'm curious, why is it that there was a problem with the USB connector not fitting? Both are microUSB w/ MHL capabilities and in looking at the pictures, both ports are centered and facing the same direction. If anything, I could see the length of both phones being an issue, but the Note 2 is slightly slimmer (width and depth). Ultimately, I could see the top portion of the mount needing slight modification to fit, but I'm a little perplexed when it comes to the microUSB not working.
Note 1
Note 2
-EDIT- Nevermind...I think the picture of the Note 2, is actually a Note 1 (even though it's labeled a Note 2). Now, looking at some other pictures, it looks like they flipped the position of the microUSB, so it's opposite of how the Note 1 was.
This is the original one not yet released. with HDMI out and two Usb ports

Looks to be the same size and shape as the S3 dock with the fold down stand (which I used for my Note 1 and now for my Note 2)..
The 2 USB ports are nice though... I might have to get one and keep my S3 dock at work

Nice. Thanks for that pic...Okay, I'm almost tempted to order one cheap and see if the original dock can be modified to work properly. Since the Note 2 is thinner (width and depth), I don't think that will be an issue, but it's more-so about the length and the placement of the microUSB connector that I'm worried about. It also does look like the placement of the microUSB slot is further towards the back cover than the Note 1, which is more centered.
I wonder if the ATT stores will have the Car dock out in order for me to try when I get the phone next week.
What about the Samsung's Universal Vehicle Car Holder Mount?
Did somebody use it?

Nexus 7 Qi Wireless Charging Mod

Hi everyone, thought I would share a mod I did to my tablet based off this guy on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6QcSpZHGFs&list=UUOxsHE9Vmxb32X66EUSWkOw&index=1
Note he used a Blackberry 8900 Energizer Qi Cover. I used an Apple Iphone 3G one and removed the coil.
Step 1: CAREFULLY remove the tape and casing around the Qi coil. The plastic comes apart easily. You want to avoid damaging the board and wires when removing the tape securing it to the Iphone case.
Step 2: Remove the nexus 7 cover. It clips off quite easily once you get a grip. I found it easiest to remove the sim slot cover and pry from there, but any opening should do.
Step 3: Place the coil. Note where I placed mine I had to peel back the bronze covering to allow the coil to penetrate the back of the case. Run the wires to the NFC connector. Note the position of the wires in the photo. Be sure to insulate the wires with tape and ensure no crossed points (which shouldnt be an issue anyhow).
Step 4: Remove the Iphone connector and solder the wires to either end of the NFC noting the correct positive and negative positions.
Step 5: Test. Note that it will enter docking mode when initially connected. If the docking notice keeps popping up that means that you do not have it centered and the connection keeps re-establishing. I used the LG Qi pad from Verizon for testing. Just pop the cover back on once done, and voila!
I preferred this to the Palm Pre inductive mod since my Nexus 4 uses the Qi standard. Hope this helps some of you!
You can disable the docking screen/options via 'DayDream' mode being turned off in display settings.

I did that mod too. Used the blackberry 8900 coil. Seems like it will take a while to fully charge the battery once its dead. I'm going to see if I can find a larger coil that can put out a higher voltage.. What is your total time to recharge your Nexus 7..? I finalized the mod today and am just charging my unit for the first time now. But it seems to be getting a low volatage as its still I'm single digits and its been on the charger for an hour or so already..
I'm getting 5 to 9 an hour with the lg charger. I'll post results when my energizer arrives and is tested.
What happens if you charge via the pogo pins (ex. a dock) and charge using a charging mat at the same time? I know this is unlikely, but I'm curious if this could cause damage to the tablet.
Does this work thru a case?

It's very simple. This is a great mod for a beginner tinker-er
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yep, very easy to do mod. The energizer seems to charge faster. I am going to have to test more thoroughly, but I am getting ~15% per hour with it thus far.
After more thorough testing my LG charging pad seems to average 9-13% an hour, whereas the energizer seems to only do 7-9 an hour. Decent for overnight charging, but certainly not very fast.
Two questions:
1) What's the total cost to do this. That is both a charging mat and a donor back door.
2) How much current (that's mah not voltage) do these doors provide? I'd assume they all supply 5V since that's the USB standard and most things charge that way nowadays. Do they have ratings on them or is it just the situation that they make a replacement door/back for the xxx device and you have to live with that if you have a xxx?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
The cost is that of a qi coil as described in post 1 and any qi mat.

I think the reason people go with the palm setup is that you can find them for dirt cheap. What is the best/cheapest source for qi stuff?

I have been able to find the energizer base stations in clearance areas like Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target and sometimes goodwill. Any of the energizer stations are qi compatible. My wife was able to score a double station from goodwill with the BlackBerry coils for 20 bucks ya just gotta look around

Nexus 5 Wireless charging dock?

Has anyone tried the 6 with the 5's charging dock? The one I have from LG works, but it's so small the phone is almost falling off it in order to charge. I was wondering if the one from the Play Store may fit its size better.
Shoot I meant to put this in Accessories, can a Mod please move it?
i tried the nexus 5 charger and had to mess around with the placing the phone for about 5 minutes to find the spot each time. i just gave up and returned it and bought a choe stadium and it connects and charges the phone without any problems. maybe my nexus charger was just defective though, idk.

I have the Google dock. The dock is small and the N6 back is curved which makes it unworkable. I got a Tmvel T2 which I like.
I have both the N5 dock and the N4 "orb."
The N5 dock is very finicky and it takes a while to find the sweet spot. It works, but not well.
The orb on the other hand, works great.
I have the n5 charger and unable to use it with a case on my phone. Anyone using a charger that works with a case on the device?
The T2 works with my Spigen hybrid.
I used the N5 wireless charger last night. It took about 30 seconds to find the sweet spot to get it to charge, but it charged just fine.
It's officially supported as per this:
Code:
To charge your phone or tablet, place the device on top the charger:
Nexus 4: One inch (25mm) below the center of the phone
Nexus 5 & Nexus 7 (2013): Center of the device
Nexus 6: 2.5 inches (64mm) from the bottom of the device
Honestly I'm really just sad that it doesn't do Quick Charge 2.0... but seeing as I only use the wireless charger over night, perhaps it isn't really an issue there.
This has been discussed a few times in other charging threads.
I had one and promptly returned it. It's not worth the hassle and finding the sweet spot is just too much of a hassle. I personally do not recommend it. Of course Google wants to sell you their products so it makes sense they list it...
I picked up a cheap round LG one from Amazon. I wish the pad was a LITTLE bigger, but its easily placed on the pad and starts charging as log as the top 1/3 of the device is over the edge.
Glad I didn't go with the Nexus Pad.
The 2012 n4 wireless dock is much easier to find the Sweet spot on the nexus 6 compared to the 2013 official nexus wireless charger. I have both, and the 2012 orb works better with the n6,.
If you want a qi charger for the n6, you are better to get a tylt vu or the itian a6 which is an obvious knockoff of the Tylt vu.
