HTC HD2 works as a remotecontroll for the TV?

I was wondering if there is any chance so you can put your HTC HD2 as a rempote controll for a Samsung TV?

I highly doubt it, since most TVs have an IR sensor,
and the HD2 does not have an IR port,
at least not a built in one.

thats correct, its not possible unless you hook up your own IR into the phone

Wireless Display (Miracast)

Has anyone actually managed to make the Nexus 4 Wireless Display option work? Not much info around the web on it. Mainly people failing miserably.
I have an LG TV (47LM6610) which (apparently) supports "Screen Share" and it detects the Nexus 4, sends it an invite, I accept on the Nexus, the TV shows the Nexus as a connected device but the Nexus still shows nothing in its Wireless Display devices list.
Tried everything! Have emailed LG support and they were pretty dismissive and simply confirmed that it "should work". Sent an enquiry to Google support but not holding my breath.
Anyone had any luck with this or is it yet another half baked feature?

Depends whether it's half baked on the TV or the phone
What happens often with these new standards is nobody talks to each other so they all implement it slightly differently.

Hilarious (or sad?) that one of the Nexus 4's major features gets released without a single compatible device?! Even when using two devices from the same manufacturer.
I'd love to hear a success story but I highly doubt there is one out there.

Neither sad nor hilarious, just a classical case of the technological forerunner. Happened to pretty much every nontrivial technology. Some (like bluetooth profiles) did not overcome their problems till this day.
Regarding LG, their TV branch does not necessary even talk to the smartphone branch, much less to google.

Hopefully we'll see some proper miracast sinks sooner rather than later - at least there's demonstration videos showing up lately, that should be a good sign?

Latency seems quite good from what I can tell. I also like form factor!
Now the dropped frames on the other hand.. I guess the source is to blame? Let's see if the Nexus 4 does a better job at that

Obviously one product needs to be released before the other, especially one sided puts pressure to get implemented on the other side. Also its a software technology so that it's made by lg has no relevance whatsoever.
As far as I remember, Bluetooth existed on handsets long before anything used it. also TV software is a new thing, can't expect it to launch with that much implementation with phones when synergy between phones and TVs really has only been around for around two years or so.
Besides, when miracast was announced it was clear it was not backward compatible.

I've ordered the Netgear PTV3000 even that still have some bugs but I think they will update the firmware to connect with Nexus 4. There is a YouTube demonstrate it can work with Sony Phone that is Miracast support.

And that's my point, not a single device supports the Nexus 4 it seems.

It is actually the other way round: Netgear PTV3000 is not known to properly support Miracast yet.
Here is a list of certified Miracast receivers:

I also have an lg TV and yea it doesn't work . sees it but no . lol I guess its not miracast ? I haven't seen that word in the instructions anywhere

But LG TVs do mention WiFi Screen Share and WiDi. Its unlikely that they would mention Miracast as its not a very marketing friendly.

WiDi is Intel's standard, it supports Miracast as of version 3.5.
If it doesn't say Miracast, then assume it's not compatible.

Yes, WiDi v3.5 was announced just recently in last september.
Which means current LG TVs are likely to sport older WiDi versions which are not miracast compatible and won't connect to Nexus4 (or any other Miracast device for that matter).

Dying to find out
This is probably my most desired feature on this handset having tried for years to create software and services that would do it on all my other phones.
My flatmate has an HTC MediaLink HD, and from what I understand from the protocols and how that works, using wifi direct etc and seeing the screen mirroring work on his One X, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work with the N4, but I guess only time will tell - yep, still waiting for my "order confirmation" to be turned into a "tracking email"
As soon as I get it and tried it out I'll post back.

I have the Samsung Allshare Wireless Hub. It does not work with the Nexus 4. It pairs, but will not display audio/video at all.

Isn't it funny how the 3 new "standards" the N4 is pushing aren't really that universal?
Devices claiming Miracast devices don't work with the N4, yet
The Nokia Qi Chargers don't work with the Nexus 4
Slimport isn't as ubiquitous as MHL

That does DLNA not Miracast.

DLNA is merely a "file fetcher". A network drive interface.
Don't get me wrong that is extremely useful. I download torrents on my phone and play them on my TV all day. But you know what? I'd actually buy most movies and shows I watch if I could mirror Google TV to my TV. No, I am not gonna buy a box for that, it defeats the purpose to me. I'd buy blu-rays if I wanted to use extra hookups.

Ir file transfer

Hey, so since the HTC one has an ir port would it be possible to create an app for transferring files over it?? For example, if I wanted to transfer a small image from my phone to a Tamagotchi iD, if would that theoretically be possible,, when I point the ir port for the tmgc at my phones port and send a remote signal it catches it and acts like its "seeing" the signal,, so does that mean it could support small file transfers?

Reviving this thread because I am also looking for this for the exact same reason.
I'm surprised no one's replied :s there are quite a few people looking for this.

It might be doable.. well, theoretically at least. I'm not entirely sure android has a ir transfer api.. And in any case, you need to develop a tool/app for that. Since there's little reason for anyone to want to do that, I doubt it'll ever happen.

looking to do the same between my nokia 6225 and Samsung galaxy note 3, but it's probably not going to work. I'm assuming that the IR dongle in the new phone is a transmitter as opposed to a transceiver, meaning that it'll work as a TV remote but not for file transfers. It might work, but unfortunately I doubt anyone will be bothered making an app for it because of the low demand

Well I've been searching about MHL support on the Moto X and I discovered that actually he doesnt support this king of cable, to stream the content to a TV via HDMI. But I also heard that its a SOFTWARE limitation, not a hardware one... So in theory we could activate this function.
Anyone knows a way or a custom ROM that supports it?

Seems it is a HW limitation, the needed chip is not there, to me anyway. But there is no workaround, there are post confirming this.

It is a workaround indeed - Miracast. It even has advantages comparing to the HDMI - no physical connections. It is a bit more expensive but it worth the price.

are there miracast dongles that exist that are complete garbage? for my needs, Chromecast does everything I need it to. I haven't had a need for HDMI since its release.

I have problem that my lg TV finds the moto x and I accept the connection on the phone but connection fails. I'm disappointed in the moto x, although its a great phone I won't buy another.

It depends of your needs. I must admit that I don't possess the Chromecast, I just borrowed it once from my friend. But as far as I could learnt, it doesn't do screen mirroring, it can only transfer certain video. And you can't transmit audio separately, the screen aimed for video must have its own audio production too (loudspeakers). You can't use plain monitor with the Chromecast if you want to have audio. Or I missed something?

Well I know its an option, but It doesnt fit me since I wanna play games like Modern Combat 5 using it. Wireless connections has too lag so its not suitable for it...

highly doubt it. there's no IR

I've tested and tried and also talked to a tech support. There is no IR blaster on the device. You would need to purchase a blaster that plugs into the headphone jack in order to use such a feature.
