[Q] black and white lines in camera - Moto X Q&A

Hi guys...
i have a problem with camera,
when i try to snap photos with white back ground, am able to see moving black and white lines.
the same lines are observed on photos also.
the service centre people have replaced my mother board, but still same problem :crying:
Again my friend adviced, it can be due to some light effects, but taking a snap at same place with other mobile is fine
please advice me guys if anyone have faced this problem.. :highfive:

Depends on the lighting so not much can be done.

I've had the problem with my X once. It was in Hershey Park Arena (the old one) in one of the halls, taking a picture of a logo on a wall.
I've never seen it since. So it may be related to specific lighting conditions.
What happens at home, under low non-florescent lights?

Under non fluorscent lights, it is fine.
why i am worried is, i am using this phone from 5 months, and recently this change is observed and
at the same place , with the same model (moto x) doesnt show this lines/this behaviour.
so i thought this is problem my handset itslef.

from what you are describing it sounds like the issue only arises in just the right conditions. that means your camera hardware is probably fine and the problem can be seen as software related. Moto X camera software doesn't give you much in the way of settings to mess around with, so you should try third party apps that do have more settings. Maybe a more photography enthusiastic user can chime in here, but I'd think trying an app that has settings for different lighting conditions, stuff like white balance, etc might help.
I use stock camera myself, and not that much at that, but I do notice you can get completely different exposure of the same scene in the same lighting if you change something like the manual focus or the angle of your shot.

I have a Moto X and was facing a similar problem. Using a third-party camera app named CameraMx solved it for me! I dont know why or how but it worked for me! That app seems to correct those black and white lines in some way! Hope it works for u too!

Purple tinge on my camera. Faulty sensor?

I believe my camera has faulty sensors. It seems to have a purple tinge in darker areas. Compared it with my brother's One and indeed, color on mine looks weird as hell around the shadows and darker areas.
Left is my brother's , Right is mine.

So time to send it in to change a new camera module?
Are you rooted? Maybe you could try a different rom. I remember this happened when Chad (dev) was switching the rezound over to ion memory management.. Long story short the cameras had a purple tint which he said could be memory leak. So given that experience I think it could be software.
I talk to much lol. If it were my phone id exchange it.

Make sure you have not set a certain non auto white balance, and make sure you are not applying a filter to all photos (the camera app can apply filters before photos are taken, the button at the right bottom). If they all checked out, then it's probably faulty sensor.

Nope. Everything stock, non rooted. One is the only phone I got so far that makes me feel I should stay stock. Everything just flies on stock launcher.
I've restored factory settings and its still the same. Looks like I have to send my phone for repairs then:silly:

[Q] Help:HTC One Camera Won't Focus,ALways blurry,see photos&video attached.

hi all.
this is my 2nd htc one as the 1st i had had a half black'd screen problem out of nowhere.(photo 1)
the auto focus wouldnt work especially in close range shots.
photo 2,3,4,is the shots , this 2nd htc one took.when i got this replacement i noticed this problem but didnt care as i dont use camera too often, but when i had a close look at it today, the focus would do auto focus reapeatedly for a like many times then stoped there ,with a very blurry picture,no matter how many times i press the screen to make it focusd, just wont do it.
unless i suddenly move the camera to take a further picture,it would focus a bit, but later when i stopped moving and stood my arm still, it happens again. only 1 or 2 photos i took out of 30 would be a "good" one like photo No.5 , but still not perfect at all...
check out the youtube video clip i uploaded to show you whats the video is like took by this camera...
Thinking this was strange behavior, I gave up .seeing as how I was able to take about 30 clear pictures while manually focusing before, went ahead and closed all apps, changed view modes, changed camera scenes, toggled from video to picture modes, restarted the phone several times and checked for available updates to the firmware. All with no luck.
My current firmware is still 4.1.2, as OTA hasnt arrived in my country NewZealand yet...damn...whats taking it so long.
will the new 4.2.2 fix this or should i just bring it back for another repaire (becuase most likely in NZ,it sux bcz you will not get a replacement straight away after a month) ?

Well these are horrible pics
I'd suggest using the option of touch to focus+snap.
Once you allow this option and you tap the screen it focuses and immediately snaps a photo, in my opinion it brings the best pics.

If that cheer you, gents, I have EXACTLY the same problem. My One was never dropped, nothing mechanically-abusive happened to this dmn phone, lens are crystal-clear - because I use the protective case.
My guess is faulty camera, which gets fckd up after some time of using it.
In my case, camera stopped working after OTA update to 4.3. I would blame the software update, but since so, so many folks have the same issue with totally various firmwares I'd rather go into thinking that this is a hardware failure.
One advice: if you are sure they're gonna give you new device, go for it. However, these bastards often try to "repair" the damn thing, which is of course the worst idea ever - they're never gonna put all pieces together, rather more likely, they will destroy 10 another things along the way.
I got to have to make a call to HTC - if they start talking about "the repair" - fck'em.
I will have to live with broken camera. I once gave the HTC One X, under warranty of course, and they did a mess to the device (squeaky noises while grabbing it, wifi module - broken almost immediately, after "the repair", battery life shorter more than a half than before giving it to "repair" and so on).
So, thanks, but no thanks.
I have the same problem, there isnt a way to repair it by software or something??

So... Bsi sensor bleeding

Reminiscent of the HTC one it seems that my unit has a blue bleed onto the sensor from the backside illumination. Look up the m7 low light issues. They get worse over time so I'm thinking what will happen is it starts out very mild as it is now and gets significantly worse as time progresses. Here is an example.
You really have to look for it to see it. Crank up brightness and such. When taking low light photos the outer parts must be dark. But really this bs from a flagship. I'll be returning this phone. LG g3 here I come no more bs knox!

I don't care for black photos. You completely missed the point. If it's anything like how the HTC one m7 sensors were it starts out so small

Then clearly progresses into a full blown bad sensor. Looks like you completely missed my point of find it now, see if it's a widespread issue like the m7, track it to see if it gets worse, and fix it under warranry or replace if it's within return period like me. Above was my wife's htc one she never sent in(otterbox) next to an htc one we sent in and got back with a good sensor.
So it only gets worse... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595534 and the main reference http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507
Again I only made this thread because this is exactly how my wife's m7 started before it turned horrid. I played xcom on my phone which made it pretty hot for extended periods and ad the first thread states apparently gets worse with heat.

I was thinking the same thing
I made a test taking a picture with the lights off and the phone agains my bed.
ISO 100 --> a very nice black photo
Auto ISO (a very high ISO, i can't remember the value, but it's extremely high) --> you can see at the center of the photo a perfect black, but in the corners you can see some purple tint. It looks like noise, but it's a strange behavior that just the corners are affected.
why is it assumed that since you have the faulty sensor thats just how the S5 was made. maybe you have a faulty device and it needs excahnged. try a second device and see how it is. if its similar thgen this maybe an issue. but one thing from one device isnt "bs from a flagship device"
It gets worse if you enable picture stabilization. Mine has quite a bit in low light, but as FarKeld noted, it all goes away at low iso settings.
with picture stabilization ISO goes up to 2000
btw: I'm getting an annoying error "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped" every time I try to see my photos

it was a corrupted file, I deleted it and now the gallery works good
I Just realized how apparent it is in low light video. I guess it was iso noise or no picture at all.

[Q] Blurry camera shots. HW defect?

Hello everyone,

Google App:
The device hasn't gotten wet since I received it and there's no protector on the back.
But before sending it to a repair center, I'd like to have your opinion on this..
Do you guys think this is resolvable trough SW? Or is this most likely a HW defect?
Thx!
EDIT: I just checked and I have the same issue with the front facing camera
UPDATE: Corrected img links. Performed factory reset, but issue remains. Seems like both camera's are unable to focus..
still I'm waiting mines shipment, but did you try restart or factory reset? hopefully mine will be flawless, cause ı ordered in austruia and livin in Turkey
I would get it exchanged pronto..

Can you see any condensation in the camera, if you hold it under bright light?
It's kind of curious to me that the blurriness happens to front as well as rear camera.

Do you use the physical shutter button? If so, do you press it fully at once or do you let it focus with a half-press? Make sure you half-press first, until it focused.
---------- Post added at 01:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:41 AM ----------
elaurens, do objects very close to the camera appear sharp and clear? If not, you must check under bright light if there is fog in the camera. The kind of blur looks more like a foggy blur than an out-of-focus blur.
If there's no fog and very near objects look blurry too, then the only thing I can think of is that one or more lens elements could actually be missing from the lens?!
I had this same problem for ages*
Then by accident discovered that theres an app on there that is called background defocus ,just disable the **bleep** and delete it then your camera will be brillant ,bloddy sony should tell you this*

Maybe a software update on camera will fix this random glitch

The green you see when using manual pro is just a feature that lets you know its focused on that specific area.. It is not a glitch

What kbrn is talking about (green cast while in manual focus) is a feature called "focus peaking", and, yes, the Note 9 does do it (as does the Note 8, and my wife's S8).
(But that's not what we're seeing in the OPs post since the pics are in Auto.)

Looks like Samsung knows about this, on other forums they supposedly ask for patience, but I did not found an official announcement. Somebody knows?
