[Q] Almost bricked - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi my nexus one:
1 has the power button broken
2 is locked in security mode and I can't remember the correct sequence
3 is in airplane mode so I can't reconnect to google
how do I re-set this to factory image?
Thanks

Hold down volume while using the battery trick to boot the phone, this will get you to do bootloader, then factory reset in recovery

Trying, but trackball seems not effective to select (nothing happens)

You can try flashing a factory image with fastboot or putting it on the root of sdcard as a PASSIMG.zip

[Q] Need to download a nandroid backup. Got stuck on bootloop, no power button

My nexus one is stuck in a bootloop, the power button is broken and it has a locker bootloader, so i cant flash a update.zip or a custom rom, can't flash or access the amon ra recovery (amon ra was already installed, so i tried to install again and it didnt worked) or even it's original recovery.img.
The only thing i think i can do is to flash a nandroid backup with fastboot, but i don't have one. Can anyone send me one for me to try to fix it?
I dont live in the USA, so there is no way i can send it to HTC to fix it
I think you're a little confused. The reason the recovery didn't flash via fastboot is because your bootloader is locked, it's also the reason why attempting to flash nandroid .img files will also not work. You can either unlock the bootloader or use the PASSIMG method to get into a working system, at which point you can adb reboot recovery to restore your nandroid. There are other ways but I find this to be the quickest and simplest.
Can't do either of those things without a power button.
If you have Amon Ra's recovery installed then you can use ADB to boot into it (adb reboot recovery), or install Quickboot from the Market, and do what you need to.

First thing is to power up your n1 w/o touching the power button.
Here is how:-
The trick is to connect the phone via USB to a power source (a charger or computer) and then to remove and insert the battery successively, after a while (5-10 insertions) the device will get confuse and will start.
Once u power up, proceed to your recovery and do whatever u need to do to recover your bootloop.

Sure, here you go. Once completed you can either pull your battery or fastboot reboot to get into the stock ROM. From there, I'm sure you know what to do

Just one more question, will i need the power button for this PASSIMG method? because mine is broken, that's why i can't unlock my bootloader neither. on the bootloader unlock method it says that i need to press the power button to confirm the procedure.
I think with the PASSIMG method you don't need the power button.

PASSIMG method didn't worked. It says:
Hold down the Volume Down button as you power your phone back on.
A screen should appear showing your phone’s system searching for various files. This will take up to 2 minute
When i power on the phone and press volume down, it just boots at fastboot, nothing else happens =\
Vol- should take you to HBOOT? To get to Fastboot you'd have to hold the trackball.

yeah, u're right
I already tried trackball vol up, vol down, nothing happened
Well that's good then. When you get into HBOOT you should see text flash up on the screen that it's checking for the passimg, then it should as you to use a volume button to say yes/no
If you're getting to hboot and nothing is happening, it's probably an error with your file:
Check the file name.
Check that it isn't a zip within a zip.
Make sure you used a shipped image.
Check the md5.
Try with FRG33, I've used it in the past and its worked fine. Also as danger-rat said, make sure it isn't named PASSIMG.zip.zip as Windows usually hides file extensions.

thx, it worked.
But now i can't flash any custom roms, because when i do that it goes into bootloop again and i have to do the PASSIMG method all over again. Can someone help me with that?
Have you rooted?

Yes.
I figured out what was the problem. When i partition my sd card and install a Custom Rom it goes into the bootloop. But when i just install a custom rom it works fine. Never heard of this bug before. How can i fix it?

Well, i tryed using clockwork with a 1024mb EXT, 512mb ad a 5120mb with 32mb of swap. All of them caused the bootloop.
Try no swap.
Also, I would recommend not using CWM 3.x (if u r?)

Nexus one froze, so I pulled battery.. now its broken.

Hi so I have cm7 7.0.2 on my nexus one. Today it froze on the unlock screen, as it has a few times before since I put cm7 on my phone, so I did a battery pull, and then it wouldn't turn on. I plugged it into my charger, and now it turns on, but just goes to the colored X screen, and then reboots in a loop, over and over again.
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot!
Use something like RUU to go back to stock then root your phone and if you have a backup on your recovery select that once you are done setting it back to stock.

Did you do OEM UNLOCK? if you didyou can simply boot into the bootloader and then choose recovery and from there you can re flash your rom
this is exactly what happen to my phone. say good bye to our nexus one my friend, i don't think we can fix it. it's been a week.

I wouldn't bet on it, if it's simply in a boot loop then it's perfectly fixable. Go into the bootloader by holding the volume button while turning on the phone. Navigate to the recovery option using the volume buttons and confirm using the power button. From here you can wipe/restore nandroid/flash CM7 again. Also, you don't need to unlock the bootloader to do any of this.

thanks, but that's what i do, when i can't boot. it's stuck on x when i try boot to recovery, and flash boot, recovery, system, not changed the situation.
ok, i am not an expert, but just brainstorming here based on what i understood while flashing mine..
download a recovery image to your PC
get into bootloader mode on the nexus, connect it to ur pc, select the fastboot usb option on ur fone
open windows console
type:
fastboot flash recovery <image file path> and press enter.
fastboot can be located inside android-sdk. so make sure you have your present working directory set to the path of "fastboot.exe"(e.g. c:\android\android-sdk\tools)

You will either have to run PASSIMG.zip (The forums have good guides on this) or unlock your bootloader and flash the individual .img files through bootloader/fastboot.

Did you try he fastboot erase commands first? I'm not at my computer to write a quick guide but if you still need it in a few hours ill write it up. If it still gets stuck in a bootloop after that then your device is probably bricked

nexus one not rebooting after the battery drained
I am currently in the same situation. In my case the battery drained completely. I removed the battery and disconnected the charger. In the past this worked. Now what I get is the colorful X.
What I can do:
Fastboot via power and the "pearl"
Go into the boot menu via volume down and power
No matter what I chose after that I get to the same X. While this seemed promising none of the following worked:
reflashing recovery
Reflashing back to stock of radio/recovery/system/boot/
replacing battery
Any other thoughts?
Before wipe all your data on your phone in the recovery and reinstall passimg.zip

Is there any way to recover my phone at the moment without a usb? At the moment my phone or RSD does not recognize that there is a connection.

Nope. Make sure you're in the fastboot menu when you try to connect to RSDLite--> From powered off state hold M+power. Also to be doubly sure use the USB cord that came with the phone.
I hope this will work for the XT860! Could get tricky since there are 3 versions of the Droid 3 that I know of.

[Q] Followed directions and.. nothing

So i recently bought a nexus 6 from att..
I had rooted it an unlocked the bootloader.
after a few days OI have decided that I dont really like the size of it and want to return it for something else.
I followed the guide to unroot it and all that, but when I get to the step of booting into recovery, it says no command..
So i tried to continue to follow directions by holding the power+ volume up key to boot into recovery, and then it just boots through to the setup screen..
am i finished or do I need to re flash the recovery?
Thanks in advance for any help provided.
i dont know what you did, but all you have to do is flash the factory img via fastboot.

I followed this guide to the letter, except for this part:
"- After everything finished, select "Recovery" using the volume buttons.
- When a small Android appears, press Power Button + Volume UP.
- Select "Wipe data/factory data reset"
I didnt get the option to do any of that, should I assume that its all good and clean?
I do appreciate your help, and I am just trying to cover my tracks haha.
I was just concerned that I couldnt get it to go into recovery to do that final wipe, I dont want to have to pay for it from ATT..
