Is HTC One M7 Global? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I want to buy HTC One M7 on ebay. Unlocked versions are quite expensive, but those locked on USA carriers like sprint, verison, etc can be purchased for a cheap price. (Because of tax regulations in my state I can not pay more than $170).
Considering I live outside USA I don't care whether it will work there or not. I want to find out if it will work in the country where I live.
I could not find any info about this question elsewhere. Do you know if it is unlocked for non-us carriers?
Thanks.

sprint phones are CDMA phone and will only works on sprint cdma network. If unlocked you most likely be stock using 2g speed.
Better to purchase an unlocked gsm variant. Both M7_UL and M7_U are GSM
M7_U is 2g-3g-hspa
M7_UL same as M7_U + LTE
Also check that frequency bands are compatible with your carrier.

Thanks for the response.
I know, that the safest route to go is a factory unlocked version, but as I noted above I can't pay more than $170 because of tax regulations in my state.
What do you think about verizon version? Is it GSM?
http://www.wirelesszone.com/phones-devices/smartphones/htc-one/manufacturer/htc
Here is noted, that verizon htc one is a global device and do you know what does it mean? I also have HTC DNA VERIZON version and it works well in my country without unlock even on 3g speeds. Is it safe to assume, that htc one will work here flawlessly too?

Verizon HTC one is GSM but its locked to verizon and will require to be sim-unlocked.
Verizon also blocked bootloader unlock from htcdev.com which mean that if you want to unlock the bootloader to flash custom roms, you'll need s-off.
You should also ask in the verizon htc one forum to be sure. I don't really know much about verizon variant.

Use a pay service to get an unlock code.
unfortunately sim unlocking won't be enough.
afaik mobilicity uses AWS bands eg 1700mhz.
check the box it came in, it will only work on the big three rogers bell telus.
pretty sure they never made an AWS compatible INCS.
Check gsmarena and you'll see
EDIT: check here also.
Code:

The International version supports AWS. One of the reasons why I never trust GSMArena's spec (Check the EVO 3D's. Apparently Rogers is dead to them)

[Q] Using MotoX in Europe

I live in Israel (mostly same systems as Europe) and would like to buy a moto X, I can easily get one, but my question is will it work out of the box in Israel (Just put in the SIM and call)?
Does it matter which carrier I bought it from? I understand they all have a place for SIM right?
Republic's moto X cant be used by any other carrier correct? How about Sprint? Is there any unlock process involved? Is that any carrier that makes the unlocking process (if needed) easier?
Please include as much information as possible cause I want to be sure I'll be able to use the phone and know what steps are needed.
Thanks in advance

Yes it will work in Israel since it has all required 2G and 3G bands. You can see comparison of different version in the attached file. You should probably get T-mobile version since it is not SIM locked and has an unlockable bootloader.
It's important for you not to buy Sprint a Republic Wireless version 'cause they don't work with GSM carriers.
Any other is compatible with 2G/3G European frequencies. As for LTE I cannot help you as I don't what are the frequencies used by Israelian carriers.
Thank you very much, I found the table really helpful! So basically T-mobile is the best option, while Verison should also be fine. I find Sprint & AT&T ones to be the cheapest on ebay, is there any easy way to SIM unlock them?
What does unlockable bootloader mean? How is it useful?
Lastly to GSM LC, Thanks for clarifying about Republic Wireless. We don't have LTE in Israel yet, but the planned bands are 7 and 3, so I won't get support for them anyway...
1) AT&T version can be unlocked by unlocking services like cellunlocker.net.
2) Unlocked bootloader allows flashing custom ROMs.
3) Regarding LTE bands AT&T version probably supports band 7. It is not mentioned in any official spec/document but several users confirmed its presence in XT1058
I'm also planning to buy a Moto X on cyber monday.. I live in Dubai UAE, usually UK/Euro variants of phones work well here. Should i go for the Developer edition with GSM network or T-Mobile off contract version? I would prefer to buy the T-Mobile or AT n T version as i can customize it unlike the developer edition. Any help would be great Thanks.
Guys, is Verizon Moto X like D4 in terms of global unlocked capability?
I bought a D4 last year and using it on GSM without any problem. Anybody can help me?

Confused by Moto X versions

I'm looking to get a non contract moto X but am confused by all the versions. For instance, Republic sells it for $299.
https://republicwireless.com/phones/moto-x
Is that the same moto X sold for $349 on cyber Wednesday and Saturday at
http://www.motorola.com/us/motorola-shop-all/motorola-shop-all-sale.html
If different, what's the difference?
(**I need to be able to root the phone).
Thanks

Republic wireless phone only works with republic wireless.
Start with your carrier then go from there. If GSM and you NEED root i suggest t-mobile or dev edition so u can unlock bootloader and always guarantee root.
What carrier are you on? As the other guy said, if you have a GSM carrier (AT&T, tmobile, other mvno's of those carriers), then go with the tmobile version. You CAN unlock the bootloader and root it, and it comes sim unlocked so you can use it on att/whatever other gsm carrier you want. If you have verizon, then get the CDMA dev edition.

I want it as a non contract phone. Currently I'm on straighttalk and they have a system where you buy a sim from them. But I may go elsewhere. I'm debating between a moto X or a nexus 5.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm repeating questions, but I'm not from the US.
So I'm not too familiar with mobile phones being locked and sim locked and things like these.
My question is, I'm thinking of bringing a Moto X into Singapore for my daily use.
Just wondering, according to all the above comments, I should bring in a T-Mobile version instead since sim and bootloader is not locked to any carrier?
And I got one more question
All these different carrier version, the radios are the same? or do they all differ slightly? I'm asking because in Singapore, I think the radios here are a little different from the US

The radios all differ slightly. And yes, you should get the tmobile one since it's sim unlocked. I don't know the bands of your carrier, so you might have to look it up and compare it with the US bands.
Ok just checked. Seems like only 3G will work in Singapore. LTE here is band 3 and 7. whereas T-mobile seems to be just on band 4.

[Q] Using Moto X Verizon outside US?

I'm willing to buy one from eBay
I found a Dev Edition Verizon 32GB
Can I use it directly without any activation or unlocking?
I don't care about 4G/LTE. I only care about 3G and H+
Thanks
GSM DEV ED is working factory unlocked out of the box as is the T mobile version. No activation needed or required. VZW edition is for those on their network not wanting to void warranty by unlocking bootloader.

I'm pretty certain that the Verizon one will not work overseas. Best bet is to get a T-Mobile or GSM DE. Swappa is the best place for it.

It's my understanding that an unlocked moto-x will work on either CDMA or GSM networks depending on the sim that is put in the phone. There is apparently no hardware difference in the various phones other than 16gb or 32gb. The differences are in the preloading and locking of carrier stuff...and the warranty for developer edition not being voided by unlocking it.

All verizon LTE phones are sim un-locked now (FCC requires this as part of the licensing deal for the 700MHz spectrum). The trick is to find a local carrier that matches the phones radio bands, or to buy a phone from a carrier whos radio bands match your perferred local carriers as closely as possible. The Wikipedia page lists the variants of the Moto X and their radios.

I just returned from a week in Europe with my Verizon Moto X (non-DE). When I landed in Italy, it took about 10 minutes before the phone picked up a local carrier and then everything worked great. In Italy I was roaming on Vodafone, and in Switzerland I was roaming on Swisscom. Data worked great in both places. I didn't try using a local SIM card, but I'm sure there are plenty that would work.

The only methods to unlock right now are through the carrier (by calling and requesting an unlock code) or by purchasing one online. There's already a few threads about this.

Is Verizon or T-mobile version sim-free. Which versions can be unlocked throught purchasing online?
T Mobile is the SIM unlocked one. It's SIM unlocked from factory, no unlocked code need to be purchased.

What about Sprint version? Is it unlocked for overseas use?
Sprint from what I've read has an unlock program that you have to go through before them actually giving you the unlock code. So it's kind of pointless to get a Sprint version.

It's factory-unlocked out the gate. What you'll eventually have to consider is what frequencies you'll need for what areas. The only difference as far as the world is concerned is whether or not you need the 1700MHz band for HSDPA/HSPA or you need the 850MHz band for LTE. If you need the former, but not the latter: go for the TMO/SIM-unlocked version, if vice versa then the Verizon version is better (AT&T is the same as Verizon but it's locked).

I want only GSM 900/1800, the best SIM-free, or the ability to buy the code on ebey. Would do well to EVDO compatibility. If I understand you correctly then:
# 1 Verizon
# 2 T-mobile
# 3 ATT
