It will be interesting to see if this will turn out to be just a conspiracy or this will prove to cause major system damage.

Dates ending 31+ are treated as 19xx
Open excel and type in 05/05/34 and you'll get 05/05/1934

if you think about it.... your are unlikely to keep the phone for more than 4 years
google keeps releasing software updates every few weeks
and some of us might not even be alive by 2030
I can't honestly see this as a viable concern, but it's pretty interesting nonetheless. If I have this phone in 2038 though, something must have seriously went wrong.

Major issue. Easy to rectify, but if not addressed, all our electronics will not recognize years after 2038...
Just like y2k, could be a major issue, but it won't be because people recognize it and will fix/patch it. 64bit computers already mitigate this, but phones, watches, etc. all would need to be 64bit as well...
Major problem is that most devices have one 32-bit register to hold time. Ether need to ADD another register to get two 32-bit registers to hold time, or increase the single register from 32 to 64 bits.
or...?
On my ST15i the calendar it's up to 2100. But if i try to set an event using that year, the date goes back automaticaly to 1970...
Non issue; once the world ends in 2012 there will be no need for smartphones.
In all seriousness though, I'm sure we'll have another Y2K scare and they'll manage to fix it rendering all the people who stock up on water by the jug and jars of pickled eggs feeling empty.
Until next time..!

I thought that by rooting and putting a new ROM on my phone that it'd help out my problems of it rebooting randomly and having a non responsive internet 50% of the time but it hasn't. Anyone else having these problems with their Thrills? About to go back to the iPhone even though i really don't want to
I have occasional reboots, but not often. I know mine is more tinkering with my kernel.
i only had mine reboot once only cuz i killed gta3 the rong way and it crashed
yeah mine does it any time that it has to think about something... i go to post something on facebook and about half the time it freezes and then reboots. I think i've pulled the battery out a couple dozen times this last week because of it just stopping on me

There is no wrong way to close an App/Game.
It's the developer of the app that causes the problem.
ok now i'm finally getting it to where it's saying different apps (mostly clockworkmod) are failing and to either force close or cancel...
Well I jumped out of gta3 with the home button and tryed to go in app manager to close it and probly ran out of ram and crashed instead of backing out of gta3 with the game menu

I just wish Android OS suspended everything when you push the home button and had push notifications instead of persistent checking. All this background running is killing our batteries and causing lockups.

True multitasking has been built into Android (similar to Linux, which it is based) from day one. Here to say it, but that would be a longshot. Best bet would be to become more scrupulous on what apps you download and more critical of the makers when their programs go rogue. Plus turning background data off in settings can help. Fyi.
Note: I don't want you to feel as if I'm being overly critical or a douche here, just realistic with what we have and what we are dealing with.

I hear ya, I know its wishful thinking. I just wish android was as efficient as iOS. Android having Backgrounding from the start was a big perk, but I gotta hand to apple for seeing how inefficient it was and hold off until they found a better solution. Android needs to grab the bull by the horns and convert to that solution.

Background data allows you to receive emails and your apps to update periodically while your not using your phone. This is the basis of 99% of your notifications. It's kinda the point of having a smart phone in the first place.

This is what I use to get rid of the custom lock pad sign from the bootloader when you reboot. Some people got it after they rooted and disabled some apps like me. It's in wanam xposed. Below is a pic to show where it is. It works very well. It takes a couple reboots after you enable it for it to take effect. But after that I have not seen it come back at all. Just wanted to share my findings with others. Hopefully it helps others who may have been looking for the same solution.

It's good to know, but a flash of the SM-G900A firmware from here on XDA, minus the BL bootloader file, gets rid of that anyway. It's not that big of a deal whether it's there or not, unless you're taking the phone in for warranty service.

It's always the same thing every time a new Samsung phone comes out. Maybe I can save some people some time and tell you each phone can and will show the custom lock icon at different times no matter what you do. In other words, if you do something that stops it from showing on your phone, there is absolutely NO guarantee that the same method will stop it from showing on someone else's phone. The scan that selects if the custom status or unlock icon is shown or not occurs on each individual phone at the time of boot. Therefore, depending on the current state of each phone, it might show or not show. The only real way to stop it from showing is through a mod (located in the AT&T S4 section) that actually modifies system files. X-posed modules just cover the icon, so the appearance is just graphical. It works for most (though it isn't truly changing anything), but for some it still doesn't. AGAIN. JUST BECAUSE SOMETHING WORKS ON YOUR PHONE,DOES NOT MEAN IT WILL WORK ON OTHERS...it just might.
glad it worked

This forum isn't just about you. Posts like yours FAIL to mention that it might not work for everyone trying it so people that it doesn't work for are left wondering what they did wrong. When in fact, they have done nothing wrong. Mentioning what works for you is great, but stop getting so offensive when someone adds more information or states that your solution might not work for everyone. You should be welcoming the addition of useful information instead of acting like "nothing was brought to YOUR thread" because you didn't know about it or mention it. A little research about X-posed and SysScope should be done by anyone wanting to permanently get rid of the custom lock icon.
Not only did I mention that X-posed might not work for some, but I also mentioned a permanent modification to get rid of the custom icon instead of just covering it up with X-posed modules. Now how exactly did my paragraph have nothing to do with this topic?

XDA appreciates all who share knowledge of things that work, and things that only work for some. With all the different devices and multitudes of "add-ons", what works for some people, might not work for others.

I know there are threads on this problem with other Transformer pads, but I am wondering if anyone had this problem with the TF701 (WW)?
I just get the message about "Unknown error, might be network connection..."
Of course my network connection is fine, and I am using the unlock tool found at ASUS support site for the TF701. That is version 8.
I have tried this a couple of days, many times per day, it just gives me the same error.
I have read people with other Transformer models who contacted ASUS and gave them their serial numbers and MAC-addresses, which seems to solve the problem in some cases.
Others are refering to ASUS devicetracker (devicetracker.asus.com) which seems to be taken down, or is it just available in US?
I called ASUS, they never heard of the problem.
I am thankful for any help!
I think you ended up downloading the unlock tool for the TF700, not TF701. The latter only has one tool, version 1.
The former has the v8

Thanks, but version 8 is the right one. It's just called v 1.0 on ASUS TF701 support site.
Ok, in that case just keep trying. For some people it literally took 40 -50 tries and it worked all the sudden.
At the same time register your tablet on Asus VIP service, then conatct them and explain your problem.
The mismatched database entries was a big problem for many TF700 owners - haven't heard anything like that for the TF701 ever.
Send them a screenshot of your About Tablet page with each mail and ask them to check their database and correct the entry for your tablet.
Good luck

I just wanted to put in my two cents here. I've been having the same issues with the bootloader unlock tool for the last 3 months. I've called customer support numerous times and been told too bad. We don't support that. We don't care. I bought this tablet for its vast power but I am not even allowed to experience its full potential. I am deeply disappointed in Asus. It has been nothing but problems with this thing but through patience some have resolved themselves.
You're suggestion may have been the light at the end of my tunnel. I have never hears of the VIP support until now. I have done the same, registered and sent them a ticket request. I uploaded a screenshot of the screen saying password incorrect.
Here's hoping this can finally be resolved. If this fixes it, I'll be sure to tell everyone that's still having problems with the tool.

Yes, officially Asus does not provide any support as soon as yu mention "unlock". That's why people were telling them thry could not get registered for Asus Device Tracker (same problem: no s# in Asus database = no device tracker).
The VIP service people seem to be a little more receptive than general support. But it really depends on who happens to read your mail...
That's why you want to be persistent. Turn yorself into a polite and friendly PITA and don't forget to attach a screenshot to each mail you send.

I think you have to turn off two factor login on your Google account. You may also have to log in to your Google account website and turn on "allow unsecured apps".

I am not talking about the "Unknown sources" in Android.
I don't know the exact description since English is not my first language, but if you log in to for an example Gmail, then go to your Google account up to the right, you will find an option for allowing "unsecure apps".
I hope it was understandable.

I think I found what you're referring to. It's in the Google account management section. It's the area where you can make your internet experience immune to Google's pull. You can edit adsense settings, see your entire Google history, YouTube videos you've viewed all sorts of stuff. It's really cool, but unfortunately the boot loader unlock tool doesn't come up in that list of apps. That list consists of third party apps that have all already gained access.
If you're referring to yet a different screen, maybe a screenshot would be helpful?

Yeah, this looks like the classic database mismatch problem. Keep trying to use the app and contact Asus.
It really depends on who you happen to talk/email to. So don't give up. Just read about someone who bought an unlocked TF701 on ebay which was totally messed up and he/she got an RMA approved without any problem...
Ask for a supervisor, escalate it... If you're willing to give up your warranty - why should they care?
So I walked away from it. Came back and for sh**s and giggles I hit the button and BOOM the lock on my bootloader was blown wide the freak open.
