Samsung Protection+ Mobile Elite - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/P-GT-AKXXT0HC
Anybody using this service? I have a few more days to opt-in If I'd like and want to see if its really worth it. I bought my phone outright from T-Mobile, but am unsure if it'd be worth the cost even if I applied a 50% coupon (if it doesn't exclude). Thoughts?

Nobody was even interested in this option from Samsung for their Note 4?

Nope I pay for Jump comes with insurance and can upgrade as well if I het that I would have to pay $10.00 plus that I'm good.

That's $224 for a repaired or refurbished phone, and that doesn't include loss or theft. No thanks.

If I'm with T-Mobile and bought the phone outright and not on jump, is it worth the insurance they offer?

Jump users can't participate since they cannot trade-in a phone in addition to the one that they're returning (the EIP one).

Some people claim that they did (big mouths with no proof), but you can't. If you got to my-tmobile and click on trade-in you have to give the order number and phone number and you will get a message that you have already reached the maximum amount of trade-ins for that order (namely your jump device)

I ordered using the normal upgrade, then traded in the phone online. I then called and asked them to cancel the order then reorder with JUMP. It still kept the old trade in as well.
so the trade-in is unrelated to your jump upgrade order, anyone could do that

I asked a rep on phone and she said only one trade in per line.
well that sucks, i thought the jump program was part of trading in your device so i guess not 200 promotion for us.
of course you can't use Jump and get the 200 rebate; with Jump, you aren't "buying" anything, you're just "renting" the phone for a period of time..

Not true. If anything you're paying for the privilege to sell it back to T-Mo for a guaranteed 50% of it's value. Once you pay it off its your phone.

I effectively got $300 credit from my gs4 that still had a year of $25 payments on it... I'm plenty happy with that credit that really makes the Samsung promo null and void even if I COULD use it.
I was already paying $12 bucks a month on insurance before the JUMP! Program and un-plan came along. I lowered my bill over $20(was ~$188) even after I got unlimited everything family plan($80), increased my data cap 2 gigs on my line for a total of 3($10), got jump for $10 per line, not $12 like insurance was($20), and financed 2 phones($20 & $25 for a total of $163 after various taxes) and i get to JUMP! twice a year per line after the first 6 months passed, that's 4 phones a year for only taxes, which is lower then the "plan discounts" you used to get every 2 years!
....I'm plenty happy with JUMP! and no sammy promo on a full priced phone, tmobile is the one losing money, that's for sure.

I'm on the original Jump, so it works differently for me..
and, yes, if you keep the phone for 2 years, and pay it off, its yours, but I doubt many folks who follow XDA keep ANY phone for 2 years..
Ive only payed a year on mine and owe 280 and according o the check out, im only getting the 280 to pay it off.

So they are effectively giving you 280 for your phone, $80 more than the Samsung credit...
I'm on the old jump plan also... I didn't even realize it changed till this upgrade and was reading the new terms... still an ALRIGHT plan, but the original is a steal... you really are only stuck for the first 6 months, or = to 1/4th the value the original phone, then you can jump twice a year after that n that literally means i can jump now to the note 4 and if I want, jump again in 2 months to the note edge.
If I DO want to keep any phone for 2 years also, I'm paying for the base price of the phone, interest free... n i was already paying more for insurance anyways, so in my case the monthly fee for the jump plan isn't even a knock against me(that 240 bucks for 2 years of jump+insurance is less than just old insurion @$288 for 2 years) n I'm actually likely to use the plan, where I maybe used insurance once in 7 years.
yeah, alot of folks forget that jump includes Insurance AND Lookout Premium for free; its not just a "tax" to be able to change phones frequently
I also had jump, but I didn't use it, since they want the phone back, i pre-order the note4 and do a trade in
i had a verizon i4 which tmobile gave me 203buck for it and i5 which is icloud lock and i got 232buck all in credit. i think i got a good deal with 2 useless phone. i talked to a rep u can trade in as many smart phone as u want as long as it not broken doesn't matter if it icloud lock. if that help somebody
is it possible if i trade my galaxy s3 into where i work (ATT) and pre order the note 4 from t mobile and still get $200?

128gb promo

T-Mobile is now selling the 128gb s6 for the same price as the 64gb...

Samsung needs to stop doing this kind of crap, they will kill the resale value of the S6. they copy designs from the iPhone yet they can't copy the business practices of apple. geez.

This really has nothing to do with Samsung, this is T-Mobiles business model.
Ya, this is getting ridiculous. I wouldnt have chosen the 64gb if i knew th 128gb would be the same price.
This is a recurrence of an existing promo that T-Mobile has been running since the beginning of June, though I think they killed it for a couple of days in there somewhere. I picked up my S6 128GB (non-edge, didn't see the value in paying $100 more for the bit of extra screen real estate) on this deal on 6/7.
Just be aware, they won't honor this in store (though I'm told none of the stores carry the 128GB phones, period), and if for whatever reason you can't order via the website you may have a bit of a time getting customer service to honor it over the phone. I had to go through 3 different phone reps/supervisors to get one who knew how to do it, when the website referred me to customer service.
This phone is not worth $850+ lol but yeah android phones never have and never will keep their value.

With the S6, there is no additional screen area with the edge
Stores will honor it IN STORE on wedneday.
Also , Samsung seperately is gonna give you 100$ back if you buy the 64gb full price (which is already discounted 100$ by t-mobile).
So if you go and buy the 64gb for 649$, Samsung will send you another 100$ rebate

Why would they take it back in return? Take back a used phone for a new one? The only thing you entitled to is some kind of reimbursement via account credit. Call customer service and explain your situation.
But I'm sure if you pay the restocking fee they'll let you swap it out.

Ordering through best buy with trade in

Anyone know the correct steps to ordering a Verizon note 8 on best buy and getting the full trade in allowance? I'm not sure if I am suppose to pre order on best buy first then go to Verizon's site and get the $480 bill credit. I went through the process of pre ordering on Verizon's site and was offered the $480 but it's cheaper on best buy. Any help would be appreciated.
Wondering the same thing but with Sprint

Wondering if those of us in the UK will be getting any discount deals too, as I'd like to finally upgrade off my old note-3 having had the initial note-7 and then its replacement on the first recall and then of course that also got recalled. Not heard any news to say UK/Eur would get any sort of loyalty offer yet...
Anyone know how to get the trade in of $425 for trading in a Note 7? I thought I read that you have to do that direct through Samsung, but so far have not found a place to do so.

I don't know best buys deal - or any deals, I haven't looked yet. I will buy direct through Samsung IF they actually give me $425 for my Note 7. Often there is fine print and ways they can wiggle you down on what they actually give you for a trade in. So until I know for sure that I can get $425 for my Note 7 on a trade in for the Note 8, I am not doing anything. Although my Note 7 is not usable as a phone, just a smaller wifi tablet at this point.

just got done speaking with Samsung. here is the link to check your eligibility. I did qualify, they basically say the trade in has to be almost perfect, no cracks, black lists, powers on, good software. I think they should offer it through the carriers.
here is the link. not sure how long the promo is, they didn't have an expire date when I asked. I still think I may wait a little to see if they offer it in blue

Thanks. I have already pre-ordered the Note 8. I did use the $425 trade in program. You cannot trade in a Note 7 if you have one, but you can trade in many other kinds of phones. I thought that a bit odd as I thought the point was for them to get N7's OUT of the hands of people still using them somehow (I haven't had mine activated since early February).
I am trading my S7E in, which I bought mint, but used back in early February to take the place of my soon to be deactivated Note 7. I paid $275 for it back in February, so that is a good ROI on the phone, which has just been sitting in a drawer since April. It has been my backup phone and is in very good condition (almost mint). I am currently using an S8+ but I will keep that as my backup phone most likely. Again, thanks for the info and link!

Someone on another thread contacted samsung about there note 7 and they are giving them a full refund for the note 7
I guess I order through best buy. Then go to Verizon's site to get the $480 bill credit which will put my bill at just under $13 a month. Tomorrow I'm going to call and double check before I pull the trigger. I wonder if Sammy would take S8+ for a trade in?

Note 7 Deal, Is It Really A Deal?

Now that we see different deals coming out from carriers, BOGO, $480 trade, 50% off, is the Note 7 offer really a deal or are we just being duped with marketing to buy from Samsung?
Should we voice our opinions to Samsung and try to get some reconciliation of some kind?
What do you all think?
I picked up an iphone 5S from Walmart for the trade in. Cost around $100. Bottom line is that I don't have to add a line I don't need to my TMO account along with loosing my grandfathered incredible account. Net cost is $605 and I get $100 worth of freebies as a pre-order. I think it is a great deal for former Note 7 owners.
The difference really is in the new line or adding line details. Still, since there is any deal for any carrier new line or add a line, 480 trade, 50%, or BOGO, shouldn't the Note 7 offer have been a little more than the rest...those who trade in the lesser of the phones for 425 is getting a better deal but if they are trading in the s8 or s7, att is better and sprint is 50% off with no trade...it doesn't really bother me, I was just curious how everyone feels about it...I like the Samsung deal because I own the phone, but Sprint lease has 20/month with trade ins that can bring it to 10/month as another posted for 240 total and paying at the end to own another 240...so 480 total...but the whole thing with monthly payments...is it really a savings?

I grabbed a very near mint Galaxy S5 for $80, turn around and save $425 off the Note8. At the end of the day with the S5 trade in, selling the gear360 and selling my LG V20 I will walk away with the Note8 for around $260 (break down below) so I am pretty happy.

I agree that it is not really a deal for Note 7 owners when I am trading in my Note 5 for $480. But that is the carriers, not really Samsung's fault.

The fact that people have been buying Note 7 emails and codes even though they didn't own one just to get in on the deal shows that it's a pretty good deal.
What I got from Samsung because of the Note 7 fiasco:
Free use of the Note 7 for 4 months (normally $37.50 a month to lease = $150 comped)
Free use of the loaner S7Edge for 5 months (another $32.59 a month = $165 comped)
Free 256gb memory card ($250)
Free Gear VR ($125?)
$425 off a note 8 after trade in ($425 - $75 to buy a brand new iphone 5s from straight talk = $350)
Free 360 camera ($250?)
That's already $1000+ of free stuff right there, and that's just from 1 Note 7 and 1 Note 8. Others got multiple Note 7s and 8s and probably got even more stuff.
I'm only familiar with the Tmo BOGO, so that's the one I can talk about. The Sprint leasing deal is pretty good though. $10? or $20? a month for a lease to own the Note 8. Only downside is you're tied to Sprint for 2 years.
For the TMo BOGO: It's great if you are need 2 lines and 2 Note 8s anyway (wife, buddy, group buy). But for those of us who need just 1 or not on TMo, the Samsung deal is easier to do. For the TMo BOGO you need to add a line ($10 a month until the prepaid card comes in), you have to wait several months to get your money, you have to pay full taxes for both phones, and you have to go through selling the 2nd phone and freebie if you only need one phone.
Yes, the Note 7 deal is part of marketing from Samsung, but they're also legitimately subsidizing money for that deal because you were a loyal Note user. What they didn't anticipate is that carriers are also willing to lose money and subsidize the Note 8 just to lock you into their network. Just be happy that all these corporations are willing to lose money just to keep us, as opposed to 10 years ago when carriers didn't care and blatantly screwed everyone because we had no choice but to bend over (Verizon is still that way today).

Man, where did you find an S5 that cheap? I selected to send in a non-Samsung phone. According to chat, that's what I have to send in. Looking for a used V20, they're all in the $175-200 price range unless it's a bad IMEI.

Yes, the older the cheaper just make sure it's on the Note7 promo trade-in list which the S5 is. The lady even left her 16gb SD card in the phone, can't have enough SD cards ?

Facebook Marketplace, lady wanted $100 and I offered $80 and met her that day. Phone is in excellent shape, crazy for how old it is. I'm selling my Verizon V20 for $200 to Walmart, they have a gadgets to gift cards department.

Same place I got mine. He wanted $125.00 and settled for $50.00, said it's been sitting in his drawer for over two years. Looked at swappa first but I think they know about the Samsung trade in and aren't dealing.

What's the best mobile insurance for the Note 8?

I purchased the Note 8 for TMO from Samsung direct. I've never purchased insurance before because the deductibles were so high, but I've never owned a phone this expensive before either. I can get TMO, Samsung or Geek Squad coverage and I am wondering about the pro's and cons of the offerings.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I just did squaretrade. I like it that it's a one time pay vs a monthly, I can use it for future phones, deductible is $99 and I can use it 3 times per plan. I rarely keep a phone for more then a year so works for me.
I used worth ave group. It was around $80 a year. Deductible is $50.
I used it twice to fix my wife's broken iPhone screen. Did not have any issues.

Question, the most I can choose is $899. The phone is more expensive than that.
Square trade for my note 8 tmobile 104 for 2 years and 99 deductible have been using them for about 7 years and never had a problem with them

I choose that amount. I figured if the phone was a total lose I would eat the other $50. I mainly have it incase I crack the screen.

Worth ave...
Thanks for the tip. Will check them out.
Was thinking about Samsungs premum care insurance ..
I just looked at the Squaretrade and it does not cover loss/theft. Also, it's unclear what happens if you crack the screen or the back and they don't have replacement parts. I seriously doubt they have replacement screens for N8 at this point. Will they cover buying a new device?

For the first time ever I accepted the sales outlets insurance. 12.00€ per month. All risks so I am told BUT I have every confidence should I need to make a claim there will be the normal insurance situations?
As you wrote this is an expensive mobile device that is large and could be dropped. I think insurance is worth it in this case.
I suggest you enquire at the outlet you made your purchase. Failing that what about approaching the same company who insures your home or car or whatever? The only other thing I would mention is there is no such thing as cheap, good, insurance. Use a reputable company. Let us know what you find. :highfive:

It does not cover theft. Honestly the phone never leaves my side and if I get it stolen from me its fairly useless to anybody.
Squaretrade is the best bang for your buck.
Look for 20 to 30 percent off coupons.
Bump for more opinions.
Thanks for the input. I ended up choosing Squaretrade. It cost $159 for three years of coverage which covers the N8 and a new phone when I buy it. They are having a special right now. The deductible is $99. I've never lost a phone, so I decided damage protection is all I really need.
Variables...
Depends on your usage and how often you switch phones.
I'm on this two jump thingy. All i need is a year of phone coverage. With the wort have group, that 1 year is like 80 bux i think? I dont plan to use it because i am not clumsy like some people.
But if you plan to keep this device longer than a year, then square trade is the first option I'd pick.
I am going to go with samsung, having an unlocked phone both AT&T and Verizon said they would not offer me insurance.

If you bank with Wells Fargo you can get $600 of phone insurance with a $25 deductible by just paying your phone bill with their Visa card. That's enough to cover a broken screen. I've used it once and it worked out well.

Wish I had found ones that actually worked.
I purchased squaretrade. they have been around about as long as ebay has. I found this post and it had some great information about phone insurance.
I also went with Squaretrade. I have never lost a phone or had one stolen (knock on wood and all of that), so I'm not too worried about that. They were nice enough to refund me the entire price of the Squaretrade plan I had on my S7E, since I'd never used it in the 10.5 months I've had it on their plan. So the cost of a 2 year policy for the Note 8 is only like $50 net.
