Needing some help if you anyone can help at all. I was trying unroot my Sprint M8. Something went wrong when I flashed stock recover wrong, I don't know what but the issues started after that, and now it keeps booting into bootloder mode and won't go pass that. I have contacted HTC Premium Support to see if they have any advice still waiting to hear back. I have contacted Sprint and they have told me to take into a store to see if it can be repaired. Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to fix this? Or do you know if it can be fixed by Sprint of if that is wasting a trip. Any help would be much appreciated. Don't know if this is the right forum or not. If not I'm sorry. Thanks for anyone in advance who has any advice tips or whatever it may be..
You can fix your issue with a RUU. Hit the second link in my sig and scroll down to the RUU section. Find the RUU that matches your current software/firmware version and follow the instructions in my thread to run the RUU on your device.

Even though I can't boot past the bootloader mode screen?
Download the latest RUU, and make sure that the appropriate drivers are on your computer.
Also, make sure that you lock your bootloader (fastboot oem lock) before running the RUU if you are S-On. If you're S-Off, just run the RUU as is.
If that doesn't work, come back here.
Edit: Magnum responded while I was still typing. Listen to him.
And to respond your question, the RUU is run from the bootloader screen, so you're exactly where you need to be.

Okay my bootloader is locked. The issues started some time between flashing stock recover and relocking the bootloader. It says Tampered Relocked Security Warning if that means anything.
Now I tried fastboot oem rebootRUU and fastboot flash zip firmware.zip when it is flashing the zip in RUU it says
targeted reported max download size
sending zip
OKAY
Writing zip
(bootloader) signature checking
FAILED
Is there anything to be done from here or should I just take it to the carrier store to see if they can fix it or should I just send it in for repiar to HTC?

This one.
Download the RUU that matches the software/firmware version you already have installed. Connect your phone & computer via Fastboot USB mode, then double-click the RUU file to start the install process (if the directions to the RUU differ, use the ones posted for the particular RUU).

Sprint should be able to fix it. Having said that, you don't need to try and run the RUU from a command line. Double-click the RUU file from your desktop to start the installer, then follow the prompts on your computer as they appear.

I have a question im on a stock rooted rom with no system changes except for the boot up sound which i restored. I flashed the stock recovery and then tried to take the OTA but it failed about a quarter of the way through. would my best bet be to just flash the firmware and flash a 4.4.4 stock rom with the eye feature when available or do I just do a RUU? Im just trying to keep phone up to date with stock rom. any suggestions?

Currently there is no stock rooted ROM for 4.4.4. You can update your firmware if you'd like and then wait for someone to publish a stock rooted ROM. Otherwise you can troubleshoot the reason you can't install the OTA and go from there.

Cheers dude ... I did look at that a bit ago when I was trying to find it but I want the actual stock if poss from HTC. My current software version is 1.29.401.13, is that an OTA or is that the version of an RUU I need? I looked on the HTCDev site but I couldn't find anything under my operator but then I don't know if I can just flash a generic UK RUU or Europe or what lol, bit more to it on this phone than on my previous Xperia Ray.
The one listed should be fine m8, just know that you can't relock your phone properly.
the one i downloaded to keep for my sim free UK is RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13. 3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39588860
restore that and it should prompt to update to whatever the latest version is once you boot up

Hi I have been following this thread, I read the instructions and it says you have to fastboot oem lock and then flash the RUU.
When you have gone through this process do you have to go through the process of unlocking the device via HTC id token again should you want to unlock, root and flash a recovery?

Any idea what one I need mate or is it not available? Tbh, I did try and restore using all the Europe versions on the link and I always got an error telling me it wasn't the correct RUU ... Why is it so hard to restore a One compared to say, Sony. When I had an Xperia Ray it was so easy to do, software direct from Sony to restore to stock, yet HTC have nothing simple when it comes to restoring ... It's blagging my head just trying to find any files to go back to stock.

HTC have never publicly released their RUUs, no idea why. You will need to use mike1986's 'stock' ROM to go back to stock or use one of the Nandroids posted in the Nandroid/RUU thread which is 1.29.401.13 or higher
Cheers for all the help guys, I think I'll just leave it unrooted and stock, at least until there is a stock RUU that is the same as the version I'm currently on, I could use the one from Android Revolution but correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the leaked 4.2.2 whereas I want an RUU for my curren version but if it's not available then I'll just wait and hope it appears at some point ... Maybe I'll take the plunge then when I have all the bits I need lol.

I am in the same boat as you.. My rom is also 1.29.401.13 and i can not find the RUU for it.. So someone correct me if I am wring please.
From what I understand is that in order to use the RUU , you must have the same 1.29.401.13 RUU for this 1.29.401.13.. if you have any other RUU it will not work.. is this correct?
so if there is no 1.29.401.13 out.. then is it only to just use the android revolution 10.1 rom or the stock rom .4.2.2 ?
thanks for anyone who will clarify this .. as I am really lost

Recently I was working on returning my phone back to stock and I ended up using OMJ's encrypted 1.29.651.7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250904). However, in order to flash an older ruu successfully I also had to trick the phone into believing that an older version was installed. I did it using dd through adb, but I can't find the thread with the info so I'll try to find that.
ok, so here's what I did:
first, I downloaded the encrypted 1.29.651.7 ruu
then, I used this trick to change the version recorded in the phone (I think I had to be root, but I don't remember) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390821
I substituted 1.29.651.7 for the 1.29.651.10 shown in the link
then I relocked the bootloader and flashed the ruu according to the return to stock instructions.
Hopefully this helps you work it out, I'm not sure how much this will help you but it worked for me.

I don't know if you can flash OMJ's firmware if your bootloader is set to "Relocked". I could be wrong but I think what you need to do is unlock it again first and install a recovery. Then flash OMJ's stock firmware from recovery. From there you can probably do the S-OFF process and RUU back to stock.
You do need to be able to boot into your ROM for S-OFF to work, as you start the S-OFF process while the phone is booted up and running.

Look HERE
Good Evening:
I have a HTC One M7UL with Telus (Canada). I have been having problems with the phone charging while it's on and my last ditch effort is to go back to stock and hope something that's wrong will correct itself.
I have HBoot 1.44, S-Off, returned recovery to stock, relocked bootloader, 1.29.661.
I tried using the RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_TELUS_WWE_4.19.661.8_R_Radio_4T.24.3218.09_10.26.1718.01L_release_351500_signed_2.exe to update and return to stock.
Everything goes fine until the RUU asks me to upgrade from 1.29 to which I select "yes" and then I get an Error (158) and it tells me to find the correct RUU.
Anybody have an idea what I'm doing wrong or if they have a different RUU that I should be using?
Any assistance that gets this working might receive a "donation"
thanks in advance.

Hello guys im new to the forum so sorry for any mistakes I make. Im trying to unbrick an HTC One M7 (S - ON). By using the command 'fastboot getvar version-main' I found out that the image required by the phone is 1.27.206.1 . I have searched for days but I cant seem to find the correct RUU. I did find it in a thread on XDA forum but the link was broken. Can anyone help me? If the RUU is not available is there any other way to unbrick the device?
Thanks in Advance!
FIXED: Read the summary below
I was able to find the correct RUU but the files available were incomplete. So with a lot of help from clsA and nkk71 I was able to find an alternative solution. The solution was to download the Android Revolution HD rom for HTC One and use ADB SIDELOAD to transfer the file in the internal storage From there on it was a piece of cake!

Did you ask Google ?
http://www.droidviews.com/check-md5sum-of-a-file-on-windows-mac-and-linux/
I got it im going to check it right now. I just wanted to confirm something. When I download an RUU isnt it necessary that the image number is same. Like my image is 1.27.206.1 so shouldnt i use an RUU with the same image?

with S-ON, you'll need an RUU which is same or higher version for your MID+CID, which can be inferred from the .206. = O2 UK
you have 1.27.206.1, so you need and RUU which is higher (or equal) to 1.27.206.1; the 1.27.xxx.1 would refer to the actual software version information, the .xxx. indicates the carrier-branded, region, etc. if the version is greater or equal to 1.27.xxx.1 and the .xxx. is 206 then you can run it.
PS: you'll also need a locked/relocked bootloader with s-on, for the ruu to work

s-off will be harder to achieve once you update to a 4.xx RUU
as for download managers, there are plenty, if you want a free (and pretty decent one), i usually use FireFox + DownThemAll add-in

I used Internet Download manager and again downloaded the .exe but Its still not working. I have downloaded it multiple times and it even passed the MD5 test. However, when i check the properties of the .exe the size and size on disk are different from each other. They are different only by 300 to 400 KB, does this have anything to do with the problem im having?

if the MD5 check passed (ie the file you downloaded gives an MD5 hash = 4961fdbbadba53c9640f3638f56faec1) then the file is good.
but the 4.xx RUUs are known to be very sensitive to PC configuration, USB ports, etc. so you should try it with a plain vanilla setup of Windows 7 + USB2 port.
Though (just a thought), why not flash a custom recovery and ROM to get your device back to life, (and possibly even S-OFF).... how did you brick it anyway?
can you also post a "fastboot getvar all" (excluding IMEI and s/n)

I think you are right, something is wrong with that file.
If there is any other way to get this thing going please let me know. It's actually a friend's phone and i think he bricked it while installing a rom.I ran the command, this is what i got.

why don't you go ahead and:
1- unlock bootloader
2- flash custom recovery
3- flash custom ROM
4- get s-off
5- enjoy
how does that sound?

That sounds good ! Just need to confirm that the bootloader on this phone is relocked not locked. do i need to visit htcdev and follow the protocol to unlock it? secondly by custom recovery you mean CWM or TWRP? I already have TWRP on the phone.

to unlock (with s-on), yes you'd need to HTCdev again, BUT if you already have TWRP installed, i recommend you flash the following ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48955645&postcount=251
you can either push it or sideload it to TWRP, once it boots up, use revone to s-off
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582
revone will also allow to unlock bootloader
once you have s-off, the options are almost limitless, but please remember to flash only things meant for your phone/modelid ... flashing a wrong hboot for example will end up bricking your phone (not trying to scare you but don't think just cause you have s-off, you can now flash an HTC M8 firmware/hboot)

as long as you already have custom recovery on your phone, it should work (honestly, i've never tried, but it should work)
one of the reasons for HTCdev unlock, is to get a custom recovery on your phone (which you cannot do with S-ON and locked/relocked bootloader)
good luck
Hi
I have an HTC One M8 on CM 12. I wanted to go back to full stock but I am scared of doing this lol.
I am S-On and have an Unlocked bootloader
So to Flash a RUU I have to Lock it again?
Is that even possible at this point?
Yes re-lock your bootloader and run the RUU.

Hi Sloth and thanks for responding,
I read that the Firmware I flash has to be newer or the same as what the phone is currently running. Is that true?
Also do I have to put the HTC recovery first or does that happen when I flash the firmware?

Yes I have noticed the hboot has to match the hboot for the RUU you are trying to flash for the last few updates.
If you choose the latest Full Firmware (Stagefright patch included) then run the latest RUU you should be golden.
The Full firmware will install stock recovery.

I downloaded the lasted firmware from HTC's website. 4.25.651.18
Is this a full firmware? Or are you talking about something else? Not sure what stagefright is.
I will try the FUU method that I found in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173
BTW my hboot is 3.19.0.0000

You probably downloaded the RUU from the HTC site.
The firmware is in the link you posted.
I'm not sure what the latest hboot is lol.
Edit:
My hboot is 3.19 and I'm 1 firmware update behind I doubt the latest changed the hboot.

This is what I found in the thread. I have a no harmon kardon one
4.25.651.18 Full Firmware from RUU (fastboot flashable): https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347796613
50mb? Isnt that unusually small? The file I got from the HTC website is like 1.5GB

That is the correct size for the firmware.
The RUU is 1.5GB...you might be ok running the RUU without updating your firmware, give it a shot.

If your hboot was outdated you would most likely need to update the firmware so they matched.
Your hboot is already the latest so you should be good to go with just running the latest RUU.
OK so I'm just going to use the thread to install the Rom. Any tips?
Thanks so far btw
Sent from my m8whl using XDA Free mobile app
Correct the 1.5GB file you downloaded from the HTC site.
Just make sure you re-lock your bootloader before starting the RUU.

So Relock with this command fastboot oem lock
So do I put the phone into fastboot mode first?
Also this file I downloaded is the actual program huh.
I will have to get adb working again. Time to download the whole Android studio again! UH

Yes boot to bootloader and select fastboot...when you plug in it will say fastbootusb in red.
Open a cmd window and type fastboot devices...if you get your serial number back as a reply you are good to issue the fastboot oem lock command, if you serial # does not show then your drivers are not installed properly.
The file is an exe/executable file right click and run as admin and it will start, read all the warnings and check the boxes and it will do it's thing.
ADB does not work in fastboot mode only recovery or OS.
