[Q] USB OTG - Mi 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Help!
I cannot copy and paste files from phone to USB flashdrive using OTG, but it works from USB flashdrive to my phone.
I'm running MIUI-1.18.0(Root India).
Thanx in advance!

What miui is that? 1.18.0? Does it even exist?

Hi. I too am having a similar issue. In my case however, the USB drive is detected as a device but size is showed as 0bytes! I am using a 32GB SD card with an OTG card reader. Is this not supported by MI3 ?

OTG is working fine on my Mi3W, please make sure you format your SD Card or USB Drive to FAT32.

SD card adapter

Probably a big-time noob question, but now do I get my tablet to recognize my SD card when using the adapter? Are there more steps than simply plugging it in and looking for it with a file manager? For that matter, the same question applies to the USB adapter when using it with a flash drive. Someone please help and confirm my ineptitude! Thanks!

Running stock? It will pop up on the bottom, where the clock is.
Running a custom ROM? Not sure.

There is a special folder: Storages where external usb memory can be found when mounted.
In my experience USB OTG is a very good replacement of embedded external SD card and it works very well with two usb adapters I tried.

New sd card not detected

Hi.
I just bought a new Micro SD card 16GB for my phone.
The file manager in phone recognized the card & also the storage manager in my phone recognized it very well.
but when I connect my phone to my PC the PC recognized only the phone storage, but not the external SD Card....
How can I transfer files from my computer to my external sd card thats in my phone?

Your PC detects your ext_sd when using another rom?
Otherwise it might be a windows problem. I have one PC where everything works fine an another where no card is shown.
Maybe uninstall Samsung driver, try without and/or install new USB driver.
Btw: my Linux PC never has any problems

USB otg

Hey guys just a quick question, does the HTC one support USB otg straight out of the box or does it need extra help to get going?

outta the box. Just install ES file explorer from Play Store. My USB 3.0 also works

OTG support?

Does this device support USB OTG out of the box? Or is there any hack that'll enable it? I know the Moto G 2014 does, so it'd be rather odd if the X didn't.

Yes, its enabled out of the box. Use a file explorer to access it, unmount by going to settings->storage
Yep, just got my Moto x today, tested otg with a 64GB micro sd on the otg end and it works like a charm with very fast access.

Check formatting on your card? I had a 64 GB formatted exFAT which did not work, but works fine formatted with FAT32.
What about USB OTG support on Lollipop 5.0? Is it works or not?
my sandisk 64gb dual drive isn't mounting...
I too am having issues with otg support on my Verizon Moto X 2014 XT1096 running Lollipop 5.0 with an Adata UD320. Works fine on my first gen Moto x but in the 2014 it wont stay mounted. Wonder if it's a Lollipop issue? Anyone else having trouble?
Uninstalling Root Explorer solves this problem ans the flash drive works as normal.

Do you have write access? I can read from USB but not write
I just bought an otg cable from Amazon and it has worked flawlessly on my Moto X 2014 running stock lollipop. I have tested it with a wireless mouse, wired mouse, Logitech keyboard and a thumb drive. I successfully copied files from thumbdrive to phone via ES explorer.

Have you tried copying to the drive from the phone
I just tested this, and yes, I successfully copied to the phone via otg cable. Let me know if you have anything else I could test.

Two thoughts. First, you have the sandisk driver/file explorer loaded right? Also, I think I saw someplace Moto X may have an issue with ExFAT, and you may have to go Fat32.

Which OS are you running? Did you try a different USB drive/OTG cable?
In Lollipop 5.1, it automatically mounts USB and you can access it in file manager (I use ES).

And that also i done clean formatted with fat32 so many times still it is not able to detect in phone but it is working in pc perfectly...
That's very strange. Could you please try a full format to NTFS?
And what is the capacity of the USB drive?

i tried that also but no use.. And pendrive is sandisk ultra 16gb dual
I believe there is some problem with your dual USB drive. I have Sandisk Ultra dual 64GB and mine works fine (I own Moto G 2nd gen, but there are not much hardware differences in 1st and 2nd gen). If it is in warranty, maybe you should go for replacement.
